March
Second Hour
Percy leaned over his desk in shock. It took a minute for anyone to respond.
"Is the teacher okay?" Katie asked.
The class stared in shock as Mr. Charon fainted in his seat. They were in the middle of Romeo and Juliet, and in one moment the teacher was ranting on how stupid Romeo was, then the next second he's passed out cold in his seat.
"Maybe this what the juniors and seniors meant when they say the Romeo and Juliet course is wild?" Jake offered.
"Should we call the nurse?" Katie asked.
"It could be a demonstration?" Jake theorized.
"Demonstration of what?" Chris asked.
"Think about it. Romeo thinks Juliet is dead, but she isn't."
"I get that, but what's the purpose of the teacher 'playing dead'? Are we supposed to commit suicide?" Katie asked.
"Now that's the part I don't understand." Jake tapped his pencil on his desk.
Percy snorted, "You usually have bizarre theories Conner and Travis, what are they in this case?" he opened the floor to the brothers.
They remained silent. After the teacher passed out they were quiet, too quiet.
"Travis what is in your hand?" Katie asked noticing their unusual silence.
"I just wanted to see what would happened." Travis muttered.
The whole class turned towards the Stoll brothers. In both of the brothers hands were pomegranates.
"You cannot be serious! Didn't it cross your mind the teacher could be allergic and that's why he explicitly told us not have them in the classroom?!" Katie scolded the brothers.
"I'll go grab the nurse." Percy volunteered getting up from his desk and booking it to the nurse's office. He took the stairs as he hasn't used the elevator since he got used to his prosthetic. He took two stairs at a time going down to reach the nurse's office on the first floor.
Percy burst through the door, "There's a probable medical emergency in room 317."
Fourth Hour
"I'm not used to the teacher checking our progress. He's usually preoccupied by the Stolls, but since they're not here, it's a bit jarring." Leo commented after the teacher stopped by their station to check if everything is going according to plan.
"You might want to get used to it. They might not be back for awhile or at all." Percy said.
"What did they do this time?"
"They might have caused a teacher to go into anaphylactic shock."
Leo put his safety googles on top of his head to look at Percy properly, "Did they know if the teacher had an allergy to whatever they brought in?"
"The teacher explicitly said not to bring the food into the classroom, and they brought it anyways to see what will happen."
Leo shook his head, "They either lack common sense, or have the nerves of steel."
"I reckon it's the former. They did seem to have remorse after the teacher fainted."
Leo put on his safety googles back on with another shake of his head, "I don't know how they even made it this far, or how they even have ten of their fingers intact?"
"I don't believe that question will ever be answered. I have also pondered that question many times since August."
"Wishful thinking, right? Hand me the drill."
Percy handed over the drill to Leo. Leo drilled two parallel holes in the wood.
"Why is it that every wood shop class has the same project? I've taken five different classes on wood shop and yet every one of them required me to build a birdhouse."
"This is my first birdhouse I ever built. Perhaps they didn't think anyone will take five different wood shop classes and decided to use the same project?" Percy said lining the edges of the wood together.
"You are more than welcome if you want to have my other four bird houses." Leo offered.
"Where would I even put them? I don't even know where I'm putting this one at! I haven't seen a single birdhouse in someone's lawn in over a decade... Why are we building birdhouses when no one uses them anymore?"
"That's what I'm saying!"
Sixth Hour
"Do you guys remember when they used to serve breakfast food for lunch?" Grover reminisced.
"You mean the waffles?" Thalia asked.
"Wait you guys had waffles? My previous schools never served them!"
"Did California serve you different food? Waffles were a staple for lunch about five years ago, and then they stopped serving them." Jason said.
"It was probably due to the health act. They probably deemed waffles not healthy to serve to students." Annabeth pointed out.
"I don't believe that was the reason why, look at the breadsticks they give us. You think these are healthy?" Leo said pulling his breadsticks apart and holding it in the air horizontally by one end, the other end sagged pitifully towards the table by gravity and the weight of saturated fat coating the breadstick.
"Maybe it got too expensive to keep serving them? I mean everyone bought an extra serving on those days." Piper pointed out.
"I miss them. Lunch isn't the same without them." Grover sighed while taking a bite out of the breadstick.
The table continued to eat, with the occasional small chatter.
"Percy, I heard the Stolls did something in your English class. What did they do?" Thalia asked.
"They brought pomegranates in the class. Mr. Charon passed out during his Romeo rant. They probably put the teacher into anaphylactic shock."
Thalia laughed, "Do you not know the reason for the no pomegranate rule?"
Percy shrugged, "I figured he's allergic to them from his reaction."
"He isn't. There's a legend that if you bring pomegranates in the classroom, it will curse you to not pass the class. Mr. Charon wholeheartedly believes in the legend, which is why he's so adamant about the rule. It probably didn't help that it happened during the Romeo and Juliet lesson."
Percy let out a chuckle now understanding the teacher's reaction. Mr. Charon wouldn't last if the twins had to retake the class next year.
Eighth Hour
Percy erased his paper with a huff.
"If only you listened to the instructions, you wouldn't have to be redoing the quiz now would you, honey." Miss. Dodds said with a sinister smile.
Percy rolled his eyes before reanswering the questions, this time only the even numbers.
It was stupid to create a quiz and only expect the students to answer half of the questions. It would of saved paper if she only put the questions she wanted answered on the quiz.
What made him really annoyed is that he wasn't the only one to have made the error. Over half of the class made the same mistake, but she accepted their papers without a fuss. Once he made the error, she handed it back to him for him to redo.
After recopying his answers on a new piece of paper, he handed the new revised version of the quiz to Miss. Dodds.
Miss. Dodds let out another ugly smile sending shivers down his back. "I think I changed my mind. Since you originally answered the questions you didn't need to, I'll like to grade those as well. Why don't you go back and answer all of them once more."
Percy's eye twitched as he strained to keep his face emotionless. He nodded before heading back to his seat and ripping out a new piece of paper to redo the quiz for the third time.
He hopes that this counts as extra credit, but knowing his luck, it probably wouldn't.
Triton almost skipped down the school steps in joy. He was on track to graduate in May without Luke or his party to give him trouble.
For over thirteen years Luke has been a stick up his ass. It all started when Luke stole his crayon during the first day of kindergarten, then Luke purposely made them redo first grade as Luke convinced him the letter M was two N's put together and wasn't an actual letter. He got into his first physical fight during second grade with Luke. Then Luke did something unforgivable in third grade...
Triton instinctively petted his hair as he cringed at the memory of him in short hair. He never trusted scissors the same.
Now he can freely roam the halls without having to scan it for Luke. Luke's sidekick Ethan has been ignoring him, which was even better for Triton.
His car keys jiggled in his hands as he jogged down the steps. The swim season was over and he scored Goode a victory in each competition they held. Now he was back to working at the aquarium after school.
As he approached the car he saw Percy huddled by the passenger door, shivering. Triton rolled his eyes, it wasn't even that cold out. Percy will never last if he wanted to lead a rescue in the winter. His father will need to find another replacement once he leaves to college, because he didn't think Percy will cut it.
He unlocked the car and Percy climbed in. Thankfully, Percy never tries to make conversation with him so he didn't need to turn on the music to drown him out.
The aquarium wasn't too far from the school, it was maybe a fifteen to twenty minute drive depending on traffic. He pulled the car out from the parking space and headed onto the road while Percy rested his head on the passenger window.
Triton barely took notice of the beat up old pickup truck behind them. It wasn't anything unusual as many of the students had old used cars as their first car.
However, after the first couple turns he took the truck followed. Triton frowned, perhaps it was a coincidence but something in his gut told him otherwise. He decided to continue on the route to the aquarium and if the truck also turned at the next turn he would have to quickly think of what to do.
Triton held his breath as he turned, his stomach sank as the truck behind them turned as well. He'll drive by the police station and hopefully that will scare them off.
His gut told him that wouldn't be the case and the police will not have the power to stop this. Triton swallowed the fear back and decided the police station was the safest bet.
"Where are we going? We just missed two turns."
"We're being followed."
Percy straighten in his seat and from the corner of Triton's eye he saw Percy start to turn.
"Don't turn around! You don't want to alert them. Use the mirrors if you want to see."
"So are we just going to keep driving until we loose them?"
"No. I heard you need to drive by a police station as that is what usually scares them away. There is a police station half of a mile from here. That's where I'm driving to."
Percy leaned back in his seat, the silence over took the vehicle. This time it wasn't welcomed as it increased both of their anxiety.
The light ahead of them turned red and he set his foot on the brake. He transferred his nervous energy by tapping his fingers against the steering wheel. His hair on the back of neck started to rise. He reminded himself the station was two blocks away, he shouldn't be this worked up about it.
The light turned green and Triton put his foot off the brake and onto the gas pedal. Out of the corner of his eye the car that just stopped at the red light was now driving at full speed at them.
Triton instinctively slammed on the brakes, but knew he was too late and there was nothing he can do but to take the hit.
"Shit"
Percy barely remembered the car accident in May. He is thankful as he must've blocked out the sound of the crushing metal that is currently grating against his ears. The air bag activated, basically choking him as he wasn't prepared for it to hit him in the face and chest. The air was knocked out from him and he couldn't scream as he felt his bones crack inside of his body.
As quickly as the crash happened it became quiet other than Percy's quiet groans that filled the air. His eyes traveled back towards the mirror as he watched the car that was following him stop and the truck's driver side door opened.
A bout of adrenaline poured through Percy as he reached his right hand towards his prosthetic. He fingered the button to release Riptide as he saw Luke approach the mangled car with a knife in hand.
Luke wrenched the passenger door open and Percy swung Riptide slashing at Luke.
Luke stumbled a few steps back dropping his knife as Riptide slashed his arm, "Son of a bitch!"
Luke bent down to grab the knife he dropped, but before he had a solid grasp on the handle, someone else tackled him to the ground.
As soon as the adrenaline pumped his veins it began to sap as fast. His eyes rolled towards the back of his head.
Poseidon groaned placing a hand on his back after he stood up.
"And you said you're not old!"
Poseidon glared at Delphin who was making his rounds around the aquarium making sure the animals were okay.
"And I'm not!"
"Says the one who is hunched over groaning."
"Shut up! Why don't you go pick on Nerus?"
"But I do that everyday."
"And you don't with me?"
Delphin laughed, "Don't be so butt hurt! Where's your sons anyways, aren't they supposed to be here by now?"
Poseidon turned his water proof watch over to glance at the time. They should be here but maybe they were stuck in traffic?
"They're probably stuck in traffic."
"Well whenever they get here, can you send at least one of them to me? I can use an extra hand with checking on the beluga."
"I'll send Triton, unless we get another call, if so I'll send Percy."
Delphin left Poseidon as he went to check on the rest of the animals. Poseidon finished tossing the plankton into Bruce's tank.
Poseidon walked towards the window facing the parking lot to see if he could spot his son's vehicle. Poseidon sighed as it wasn't in the parking spot it usually occupied.
He pulled out his phone to send a text to Percy asking if there was something that held them behind.
While he waited for his son to reply he went back to finishing feeding the other critters they had at the aquarium.
He got to the octopus tank before his phone rang. He expected it to be either of his sons with an excuse as to why they're late.
To his surprise it wasn't Triton or Percy, but his nephew Apollo.
Poseidon answered the phone, but dropped his phone a minute in the call heeding Apollo's instruction to rush to the hospital.
