It was a good time to start a new day. Raven, being a moody teenage superhero known for her witty rebuttals and sarcasm, had something to look forward to. Even she had plans for the day, and she would enjoy every single second of it, or so she thought.
Unfortunately, she was currently on a grocery duty under Robin's orders. So she had no choice but to comply. She sighed in exasperation not only because of her current duty, but also because of her current companion - the resident jokester of the team: Beast Boy. He was currently looking around, finding something interesting (at least to him) while going to the supermarket on foot, as Cyborg didn't allow anyone to drive his T-Car, or even Robin with his R-Cycle.
"Rae, look! Let's stop right here for a moment and buy the limited edition Mega Monkeys: Ultimate Showdown!" Beastboy said excitedly as he tugs her cloak and points his finger to the said game on the display at one of the game stores, which makes her bad mood worsen even more.
"For the last time, we're going to THE SUPERMARKET TO BUY SOME FOOD, NOT FOR YOUR STUPID VIDEO GAMES! AND IT'S RAVEN, NOT RAE!" She explodes, rubbing her temples from too much agitation.
"Oh, come on! May I have this request of mine for once? Just once?! Please, I am begging you!" He pleaded, kneeling in front of her in a most Beast Boy-like fashion he could muster, leaving her speechless and sighing later on.
"Fine, but you'll pay for it. Do you understand?" She gave him a cold stare, sending shivers down his spine.
"Yes, ma'am!" He squeaked in reply before they both entered the game store. After a while, they both left the store, him completely satisfied with his treasures stored in a paper bag. In the middle of their walk, Beastboy couldn't help but to hum as he still couldn't get over his purchase, which made the empath even more gloomy and snarling.
Just then, their T-Communicators suddenly went off. Great! Another one to ruin her day, as if it wasn't already bad enough. They both immediately answered the call and the first person they saw was Robin, who looked serious as always.
"Beast Boy! Raven! Mad Mod is on the loose! He is currently teaming up with Dr. Light and the rest of us are already chasing after him! Both of you go chase Mad Mod at the coordinates I'll give you and stop him at all costs! That's all!" Robin explained sternly as the screen suddenly changed into a map of the city with a red blinking dot in the west-northwest area, just a few blocks ahead of their current location.
That settles it. She now has a good reason to release all of her stress from the bad luck she had for this day. Once she saw him, she will give him a good beating, she thought. Meanwhile, Beast Boy returned to the game store for a while to leave his purchases before returning back. "Let's go, Rae." He said as he immediately changed into Falcon and started flying to their destination.
She sighed again before following him.
After a few minutes, the pair landed on their destination, which appeared to be a building under construction covered with metal barricades. With caution, both of them entered the construction site, carefully checking every nook and cranny of the insides using the heightened senses of a bloodhound and her empathic ability. They eventually found a hidden door beneath the scaffolding and barged in. After a few minutes of searching through an underground tunnel, they found their target: Mad Mod currently configuring a massive machine. They hid in one of the obscured walls, deciding upon their suitable approach for attack.
For a moment, the Mighty Mod was about to finish the configuration when a black tendril grabbed his waist and flung him against a wall. There, he saw the Titans in their battle stance.
"Give it up, dude! You're going down!" Beast Boy taunted.
"Never! Not this time! I will make sure to make this world fit my own image and not let you spoil my plan, Pesky Titans!" Using his cane, he sent his giant nutcracker soldiers and toy planes, shooting at their direction. Both of them avoided the bullets, swirled through the air as Beastboy shifted into a snake to pass through the soldiers and planes underneath and managed to catch Mad Mod in the process, while Raven took care of the soldiers herself.
"AZARATH METRION ZINTHOS!" Raven cast her spell, causing a huge wave of black energy to crush the Nutcracker soldiers and toy planes into pieces. Mad Mod grimaced in frustration as he was being pinned down by Beast Boy. With no other option, he attempted to squirm around. Beast Boy focused on keeping him immobile, not noticing until a black-and-white spiral coming from his sunglasses started spinning, hypnotizing and occupying him. Taking advantage of the situation, he tried to escape, only for Raven to grab him by the black tendrils.
"Not so fast, old man!" she said, smirking at him. The Mad Mod's anger grew as he flailed his legs, not realizing that one of his shoes had come undone and had hit the keyboard part of the machine. This caused it to produce pink sparks.
"Curse you, Beastboy and Raven! As soon as I recover from this, I swear you'll never get past me the next time we meet, even if it is the last day of my life! I'll etch your defeat in your memories one day!" he shouted, as the machine started making buzzing noises, making the people around him, including Beastboy who had been recently freed from his brainwashing, look at its direction.
"Beast Boy... Raven... Recover... Past... Life... Memories..." The machine uttered in a robotic voice, indicating that it managed to comprehend some of the words and took it as a command due to how quite fast and thick his British accent is. "Command accepted. Recovering Beast Boy and Raven's past life memories. Initiating the hypnosis sequence." Both Beast Boy and Raven were stunned by what they just heard. At this point, both of them attempted to escape from the machine.
The machine beeped, producing a huge wave of pink-hued energy to surround them, throwing the three of them to the nearby wall. As one of them struggled to get up, Beastboy looked over at Raven who was already unconscious, giving her one last glance before passing out himself.
All his eyes could see was black, as if everything around him was void. He was still asleep, but he could hear multiple noises around him. The beeping sounds of the Cardiac Event Monitor on his left, the voices of his other teammates talking incomprehensibly on his right, and sounds of war and gunshots from somewhere. 'Wait, gunshots?' he thought. Just then, he remembered something. He wasn't sure why, but it felt way too familiar to him, as if he's forgetting something. He then saw it: a womanly figure that was too blurry for him to make out who it was. Regardless of that, his body's first instinct was to reach her hand. He also didn't know why, but it felt natural to him. He was coming closer and closer to her. Just as he was about to grab her hand, he slowly woke up from his mellow slumber.
"Beast Boy!" The three Titans cheered in unison as he came back to his senses and consciousness. "How are you? Are you still in pain?" Robin, being a concerned leader that he was, asked him gently.
"Bloody hell, it hurts! What happened after I was out?" Beast Boy replied. The three became confused by his wording. Nevertheless, Cyborg answered. "After we defeated Dr. Light, we saw an explosion coming from your location. We immediately went there after we took him over to the authorities. When we arrived, we saw you three unconscious. While we put Mad Mod in jail, we brought you two back to the Tower as quickly as possible and put you both in the med bay right away. Right now, you were out for like five hours."
"I see..." Beast Boy replied as he tried to sit up from the bed he was in.
"Don't force yourself, friend Beastboy. You are still injured." Starfire rushed in and helped him move with concern.
"Thanks, Star." he said, giving him a warm smile in return. "Where's Raven?" he asked. Just as someone's about to answer, Raven also stirred from her sleep.
"Goodness gracious, my head hurts!" Raven exclaimed while clutching her head. Robin, Starfire, and Cyborg instantly went to her aid, genuinely happy and glad that she was finally awake, except for Beast Boy, who for some reason, became wide-eyed as he suddenly heard her voice and went to her direction. Just like earlier, he wasn't sure why, but it felt familiar to him, as if he had heard something similar before. Before he could even do or think of anything, he suddenly spoke with certainty.
"Hannah!?"
Upon hearing that name come out of the blue, Raven was suddenly stunned. The conversation with the other Titans came to a halt, as they looked back at Beastboy, confused and unsure of what he had just said. Just then, Raven turned back to look at him, her face filled with unexplainable emotions she could not begin to understand. Despite the uncertainty, the name he spoke resonated within her, giving her a sense of familiarity with something she had lost long ago for reasons unknown. Tears began to fall from her eyes, dripping down her rosy cheeks. After a moment, she finally spoke back to him.
"John!?"
From there, they finally remembered clearly. Just like that, they felt like the world had slowed down, everything stopping except for the two of them. Looking at one another with emotion on their faces, as if they were reunited from the past. Beast Boy stood up, and so did Raven, and they went to each other, giving themselves a tight, yet warm hug.
"Oh, thank God! I finally found you!" Beast Boy exclaimed in his deepest gratitude, tears welling up in his eyes as he couldn't help but tear up at their supposed reunion. "You have no idea how much I missed you!"
"You jerk! Do you have any idea how long I waited for you!? I was already hurt beyond repair when you died, and now you're making me cry again! I hate you!" Raven lightly jabbed her fists into his chest, not out of anger, but from loneliness and relief, as she had finally found him after years of searching and started to cry. This might be the most emotional act she could ever muster in her entire life, which is very unusual for her, yet it felt just fine for her.
"I'm sorry I made you wait." he said. "Don't worry. I promise we will never be apart, ever again." He continued to embrace her gently, comforting his long-lost partner(?). While the sudden commotion was ongoing, the other three Titans at the back were bewildered and flabbergasted at what they have just witnessed. Starfire was beyond ecstatic as she cheered for the two of them, while Robin and Cyborg looked at them, their jaws dropped, and then to each other. It seemed the two of them needed a thorough explanation as to whatever was going on between them, and a moment to themselves to comprehend if they were just dreaming or not.
