After putting the kids to bed, Jack and Rose sat on the sofa, Rose curled in to Jack's side. It was around 10pm when there was a knock at the door. Rose frowned, confused and looked up at Jack "who's that at this time?" She said as she sat up from him "I'm not sure…" he said as he got up and walked to the front door.

Upon opening it, he saw the police officer from earlier that day "evening Mr Dawson, sorry for popping by so late" "oh, erm, no worries, come on in" he said as he let the officer in and gestured for him to follow him in to the living room "would you like a drink?" Jack offered "No thank you… I just wanted to update you on the boys Grandmother" he said "yes?" Jack asked, his heart suddenly beating quickly "We've located her. It's safe to say she's absolutely furious with her son and his wife…" "what has she said about James?" Jack asked, not really interested in any updates on Jessica "she would like to travel here to discuss him. She seemed happy to take him, but wants to talk to you before hand" the officer nodded "OK…" Jack said "are you happy for me to pass on your address so she contact you to discuss a suitable time?" He asked "of course" Jack nodded. "Thank you… I'll contact her when I'm back at the station. I'm sure she'll be in touch shortly. I'll see myself out" the officer nodded. "Thank you… goodnight sir" Jack said before sitting down on the sofa. "I wasn't expecting that so quickly" Rose said "no, me either" he shook his head "I wonder when she'll get in touch" she said. "Hopefully soon, for James sake" he shrugged. She nodded and leant back in to his side, yawning as she did "are you tired?" He asked "extremely" she nodded "come on, let's go up to bed" he said. She nodded and stood up, following him up the stairs.

The following day

5th September, 1920

Jack woke up early the following morning to a telegram from James's grandmother.

"Mr Dawson,

Thank you for taking care of James. I will be arriving on Tuesday to collect him and his stuff. Ensure both are ready. We will be leaving Chippewa Falls at 3pm sharp to return to Florida.

Regards

- Audrey Davies"

Jack sighed as he sat down on the sofa after reading it, wondering if James going with Audrey was a good idea after all, but his thoughts were interrupted when Rose came in to the room. "Morning" she smiled "hey" Jack said half heartedly "what's wrong?" She frowned, confused. He held the telegram out to her and she took it to read "seems like she lacks manners too" she rolled her eyes "runs in the family, obviously" she raised an eyebrow "not now Rose, please" he sighed "sorry…" she said sitting down beside him "are you OK?" She asked. "I don't know… I don't know if James going back with her is a good idea. I know he wants to, but is it going to do him any good? Maybe we could fight her on it?" He almost asked "Jack, she's clearly never been abusive towards him, and she's his biological family, I don't think anyone would grant us custody over her" Rose shrugged "I see where you're coming from, I really do… and if you want to fight her over it then we can. But will James be happy with you if you win?" She replied and got a sigh in response "probably not…" he said "exactly" she smiled weakly, trying to reassure him. "Are the kids still asleep?" He frowned because Sophia would normally be awake by now "yeah, all 3 are spark out" she chuckled.

Around half an hour later Jack and Rose were finishing off their morning coffee when they heard shouting.

"Stop it!" Tilly shouted. Rose groaned and stood up "for the love of god" she said as she followed Jack out the room and up the stairs, where James and Tilly were arguing on the landing. "What's the matter?" Jack sighed at the two of them "she pushed me!" "He drew on my bedroom wall!" Tilly shouted. "What?" Jack said confused and walked past Tilly and in to her bedroom. Rose just stood on the landing looking between the 2 children. "Are you joking me, James?! Why would you do that?!" Jack shouted as he came out of Tilly's bedroom where there was black marker on her wall. James shrugged "it's not fair that she has a nice bedroom and I have the boring spare room" he glared at Jack "you don't have a decorated bedroom because you've been here 3 weeks and you want to move out! That's not Tilly's fault!" James shrugged "not mine either… she hurt me" he said. Jack's temper was wearing thin "and you! why did you push him?!" Jack turned to Tilly, his voice raised "don't even THINK about shouting at her" Rose said firmly. Normally people shouting would make Tilly cry, but for the first time ever, she felt confident enough to stand up for herself "because he was drawing on my wall and I wanted him to stop, and he didn't when I asked him to" she shrugged, as though it was obvious. "For Christ sake, Jack, use your common sense for once" Rose said as she walked downstairs. Normally she wouldn't use that language around the kids, but she was over James's behaviour. Tilly followed Rose downstairs without a care in the world "can I have some pancakes please mummy?" She asked "yes" Rose nodded.

Jack looked at James "your grandmother will be here on Tuesday to collect you. Go to your room until you have an apology for Tilly. I will bring you up some toast up soon" Jack said firmly, gesturing to James's room, he just walked in and shut the door.

Jack walked downstairs and heard Rose talking to Tilly "Tilly, I know he shouldn't have drawn on your wall but you shouldn't have pushed him. You should have shouted me or your Dad and we would have handled it. You don't push people because they aren't listening, OK? … and you shouldn't have answered back to your Dad" He heard her say firmly with a sigh "he asked me a question?" Tilly said confused, making Jack smirk from the hallway- technically she was right "yes but-" Rose went to speak again but Jack walked in to the kitchen "I'm sorry for shouting" he said as he looked at Tilly from the door. Tilly shrugged "sorry for…" she thought for a moment, trying to remember what she was apologising to Jack for "…answering back" "thank you" he nodded and smiled gently, but blanked Rose. "I'll get the paint down from the attic today and paint over the marker" he said as he walked over to the toaster and put bread in it before taking it up to James.
