Dear Anna,
I am so terribly sorry for hurting you. It was not my intention. I don't usually get carried away by scenes like this, especially with you!
The star of my existence. The comfort to my soul. The love of my life.
I don't know what's wrong with me, that they won't let me see you. Even to soothe the pain that I've inflicted.
I was so glad when they told me that we would work together, but alas, it had to end in misery.
Know that my heart pains everyday, knowing I've hurt you.
Please forgive me.
-Elsa
Dear Elsa,
I think I know what's happening to you.
We should meet.
Lots of Love
-Anna
Night descended upon Hollywood hills. Stars lit up the night, both in the skies and on the streets below. Grunting with determination, Anna hiked up the dusty trail. Her pace quickened as the air got colder, and her heart began to pound when she made out a solitary figure sitting on a bench.
A multitude of emotions slammed into her chest at once. She'd anticipated this moment for weeks, rehearsing the moment where she'd hurl herself into Elsa's arms and soak in the endless, soothing comfort that her arms brought. Every proclamation of affection played out in her brain on repeat. Yet, as she approached, Anna could only find the courage to croak, "Elsa."
The actress got up, longing written on her face. She slid the hoodie over hair, gleaming beneath the moonlight, and held out a hand to stop Anna's approach.
"Wait, d-don't come any closer, I'll come to you." The trepidation in her shaking voice was evident. Anna found the resolve to comply, eyes widening at the foggy frost emanating from Elsa.
"It's ok, it's ok," Anna whispered in the dark.
"I don't know what's happening to me," Elsa whispered, "I don't want to-"
"-You can't hurt me," Anna completed her sentence.
"I already did!" Elsa gasped, the pain in her voice rising, "it's all my own goddamned fault."
The words unleashed a torrent of pent-up longing from Anna. She clenched her fists until they turned snowy white, before screwing her eyes shut and seething, "Ms Sheridan, I'd gladly get slapped a thousand times by your hand. Only if I could hold you for all eternity."
"You're too good for me," Elsa snivelled in the dark. She looked away, unaware that Anna had stepped within arm's length. A foggy gasp escaped her lips as the girl slipped her hand into Elsa's, ignoring the chill spreading through her bones.
"See?" Anna said, as ice gave way to warmth, "You can't hurt me."
The breath caught in Elsa's throat. She held her breath, not daring to exhale lest she afflict Anna with frostbite. Slowly, she let the air out of her lungs, savouring the gentle strength of Anna's fingers pressing back against hers. The streets, bathed in the glow of a thousand neon lights, stared back at them from their view upon the hills.
Anna pondered launching into an interrogation about the ice. How did it happen? What made it happen? Have you always been like this? Still, the pensive mood on Elsa's face made her reconsider. Here was a woman who, despite all her fame and endless string of admirers, loved a wreck like her.
"Do you regret coming to Hollywood?" Anna asked.
Elsa sighed. She looked upon the glittering city from the hills, breathing its own life in the night like it were a living being. The view was familiar to her, having spent hours here in the solitary darkness when neither drink nor drug could cleanse her mind of the raging loneliness. Unlike those times, the feeling of having Anna here, fingers interlinked with hers, made everything feel so undeniably right.
"Yes," Elsa answered, pursing her lips, "and I never knew how much I regretted it until I met you. The wealth, the fame, none of that would have mattered if I was locked in a cage away from you."
Cold bit into Anna's hands for a moment, but she endured the sting - clutching back at Elsa until her warmth returned.
"You aren't afraid of me?" Elsa asked.
"I'm afraid you'll continue to allow yourself to be locked away like this," Anna answered, plonking her head on Elsa's shoulders. The actress hesitated for a moment, before sliding a hand around Anna's lower back, and holding Anna's head to herself. The faint throb of Anna's heartbeat against herself made her heart flutter.
"I am afraid of me," Elsa continued, "I am afraid of what I will become-"
"Is it any worse than what you're going through now?" Anna asked, pulling herself from Elsa, "and I'm sorry if that stung. The truth hurts sometimes."
Elsa bit down on her lower lip as she looked into the girl's eyes. Ever since that first silly kiss and every single moment they've stolen together, one truth remained.
She'd do anything for her.
"I assume you have some sort of plan," Elsa suggested.
Anna's eyes lit up in the darkness.
"In fact, I do."
