Prologue
8 years before the show
Officer Carlton Lassiter climbed out of his police cruiser to approach the motorcycle he had pulled over for speeding. Carlton had been a part of the Santa Barbara Police Department for two years and had become a great officer. He was working to become a detective by his fifth year with the department, but sometimes even detectives must pull speeders over. Walking up, Carlton cleared his throat.
"Excuse me, sir, can you please remove your helmet and show me your registration and ID?"
"Of course, Officer." came the muffled reply. Carlton watched as the biker removed his helmet and pulled out his wallet. "Here you go." The man turned to face Carlton, and Carlton froze. This was the most handsome man he had ever laid eyes on.
Strong facial features, with a small amount of stubble lining the jaw, brown hair that seemed to glow in the sunlight, and the deepest chocolate brown eyes Carlton had ever seen looking back at him.
"Officer? Officer?" The man interrupted Carlton's thoughts. "You ok there buddy?"
"What? Oh yeah, yeah, I'm fine." Carlton took the offered license and registration. "Thank you. This will only take a moment." Carlton returned to his cruiser and ran the registration and license. While the system was running Carlton murmured to himself, " Come on, pull yourself together." The computer dinged, alerting him that the ID check was complete. Looking over the results, everything looked legal, and not expired. "Shawn Spencer. It suits him." Getting back out of the cruiser, Carlton approached the motorcycle again.
"Alright Mr. Spencer, do…"
"Shawn, please. Mr. Spencer is my dad." Shawn spat.
"Alright then, Shawn, do you know why I pulled you over today?" Carlton asked.
"I was speeding, right?" Shawn answered.
"Yes, you were going 65 in a 55. Now it seems that you don't have much of a record, just one arrest when you were eighteen.."
"There were extenuating circumstances! My father was the arresting officer, he was trying to teach me a lesson." Shawn exclaimed.
"What I was trying to say, is I'm going to let you off with a warning since you have no previous record of speeding tickets," Carlton explained.
"Oh, well, thank you, officer," Shawn replied, shocked.
"No problem. Do you have any questions before I let you go?"
"Actually, yes, I do have a question," Shawn replied with a smirk.
"Well, what can I help you with?" Carlton replied, curious.
"Can I get your number, and maybe take you out for dinner Friday night?" Shawn asked with a smile.
"I-" Carlton froze, not expecting that question.
"I know this great place on the beach, we could get dinner and then take a walk down by the pier."
"I…I'd like that." Carlton whispered.
"Great! Here, you can put your digits in my phone." Shawn exclaimed, handing Carlton his phone.
Carlton smiled slightly as he put his number in Shawn's phone, before handing it back. "I'll call you when I get done with my shift, it will be about twenty minutes after that I should arrive, that way I can go home and change out of my uniform."
"Sounds good. See you Friday…" Shawn paused. "I never got your name."
"It's Lassiter, Carlton Lassiter."
"Well, I will see you on Friday, Lassie."
3 years later
"I now pronounce you husband and husband, you may kiss."
Shawn and Carlton smiled before leaning in and kissing each other. Cheers erupted around them from the small number of guests invited to the wedding. They pulled away smiling at each other before turning to their guests.
"It is my honor to introduce Mr. and Mr. Shawn and Carlton Lassiter!" Together Shawn and Carlton walked back down the aisle, followed by their best man and best woman, Shawn's best friend, Burton Guster, and Carlton's little sister, Lauren. The ceremony was perfect for them, and they shared a kiss as they climbed into the limo driving them to the airport for their honeymoon.
