2020
In the darkness we see Junko laying, stirring on the ground. there hair is down and tangled a matted mess wearing cloths that, once upon a time could have been considered white but are now yellowed and aged with dirt and improper care and along with that was her skin, a deathly pale at a moment like this any normal man would consider this a corpse, but then a sudden cacophony of televisual sounds is heard.
It lights Junko she wakes with a start — she sits detached — staring into a screen with her eyes, the most dead part of all, her eyes… dead and lifeless, as if any part of her soul or humanity left years ago, all that remained was the sadness, the sadness that would never go away — the television began switching between channels — 'Hello Zetsu-Bo (Goodbye Hope)' plays
Hello Zetsu-bo goodbye hope!Sweet Zetsu-bo I'm so in love with you
I knew Zetsu-bo we'd never part
So hello Zetsu-bo goodbye hope! You passed me by one sunny day
Flashed those red brown eyes my way
And ooh I wanted you forever more
Now I'm not one that gets around
I swear my feet stuck to the ground
And though I never did meet you before…
skips repeats in broken pieces.
The sounds mix, distort and escalate — until suddenly they snap into silence.
and with that silence a familiar visage appears before her eyes…
the ghost depravity
DEPRAVITY: I'm sorry I haven't been around, it's been on my mind, but what with work and life and — you know. (Slight pause.) man three years past by just like that you can hardly tell the world was destroyed! Sure it's a little rough around the edges but give it a few years and all your work will be for nothing! Look at it, going, going, the world moving on with out you
while you're here, alone, forever…I'd almost feel bad if you didn't have it coming.
'So you okay? — you look all right — you don't look too bad — maybe a little scruffier. It's one of the many benefits of being retired, I suppose. So what do you do all day in here? Read all those books you always wanted to?
JUNKO: I watch television and drink gin.
DEPRAVITY: And that's it - you don't do anything else?
JUNKO: I walk around and try to locate the Pockys.
DEPRAVITY: So a little bit of exercise too.
JUNKO: Yeah a little.
DEPRAVITY: But don't you miss your old life at all?
JUNKO: No.
DEPRAVITY: Yeah you do.
JUNKO: No.
I don't.
…You wanna drink?
DEPRAVITY: It's 9.30
JUNKO: Is it?
DEPRAVITY: Yes, it is.
JUNKO: Oh.
DEPRAVITY: In the morning - 9.30 in the morning.
JUNKO: So late!
Junko Pours Himself Gin.
DEPRAVITY: Anyway I'm sorry it's taken me forever I feel bad. I could swing by next week — if you wanted it? I'd like to —you wouldn't mind me looking in?
At that Junko stared off getting lost in there own frame of mind
JUNKO: I was sitting here in the middle of the night and the television went off and I saw something come out from the darkness. It's a scene I couldn't think about for years — and it came to me the way a lot of these things do — in these pictures. (Slight pause.) It was morning time and I was sitting at home with my family, my sister and father — and nothing special happened — just small talk between us that I can't remember now — but I was there at home for a few moments with them… It was cruel in a way.
DEPRAVITY: My word You need to talk to someone — a doctor —
JUNKO: No.
DEPRAVITY: Don't you remember the person you were? — your life outside!
JUNKO: That was before.
DEPRAVITY: And it's gone? All of it?
JUNKO: Of course it's gone.
DEPRAVITY: But this isn't living for someone like you — eating Lucky Charms, living 'on gin and freaking Pockys!
JUNKO: There's nothing of the past! It left…
This is it now.
DEPRAVITY: Right. (Slight pause.) So you never think of them?
Junko Doesn't Answer.
Did you hear me, Junko? Do you ever think of class 78? Your friends.
A slight pause.
JUNKO: Only in my head
[JUNKO]
Look up here, I'm in heaven
I've got scars that can't be seen
I've got drama, can't be stolen
Everybody knows me now
Look up here, man, I'm in danger
I've got nothing left to lose
I'm so high, it makes my brain whirl
I dropped my self on down below
Ain't that just like me?
By the time I got to hopes peak
I was living like a king
There I used up all my money
I was looking for your ass
This way or no way
You know I'll be free
Just like that bluebird
Now, ain't that just like me?
Oh, I'll be free
Just like that bluebird
Oh, I'll be free
Ain't that just like me?
