It's time for Elena to go to summer school. How will she do? Plus, will she pass her big test at the end of these two months? Then the family does a little camping.

Ch 19: Summertime

[Third Person POV]

Two weeks went by fast. When Elena was healed up she went back home and in that period she made sure to look through some of her schoolbooks and made sure she would be prepared for what was ahead for her. She was not looking forward to having two months of summer vacation go to waste, but she did this to herself. She accepted that and she was going to try her hardest to make sure she would pass. The last thing she wanted was to retake the grade and fall behind.

Elena caught up with Sam, apologizing for her behavior and leaving her behind like she did. The imp forgave her and they were back on good terms. Sam was sorry she didn't notice sooner or say anything to her parents, but she understood that it wasn't her fault. The imp was glad to have her friend back and was willing to help her as well during her summer schooling.

The young hybrid was happy to have a friend like Sam as well as a family that supported her through this entire thing, despite her fuck up. It just made her happy plus more determined than ever to get everything right.

When normal school time was over, it was time for Elena to start hers. She woke up that morning like any other day of school. She woke up and managed to dress herself and checked her backpack to make sure everything was in there. To her surprise, there was a knock on her door.

"Elena, you awake sweetie?" It was her mom on the other side of the door.

"Yes mom, I'm awake. I just got done getting dressed." Elena answered her as she looked in the mirror.

The door opened and Heart walked in to see the girl was indeed dressed. "Oh, look at you, so grown up already getting dressed yourself."

"Mommm." Elena groaned, embarrassed.

The woman chuckled. "Oh, my light, you're adorable. Now, how about we get ready and have some breakfast?"

The young hybrid nodded. "Yes! Always have a satisfying meal in the morning." She said and walked past her mom and headed towards the kitchen.

Heart watched the girl walk and she just had a smile on her face. She shook her head before heading out of the room and into the kitchen. Rufio was already digging into his food as they got there and Heart went to the fridge.

"So what are we thinking of for breakfast?" She asked Elena.

"How about some waffles today?" The girl suggested.

"Sounds good, but I probably won't have any since my stomach isn't feeling well this morning." Heart agreed and got everything out she needed for the waffles. While she did that she got Elena a glass of milk and made sure Rufio had more water plus started a pot of coffee for Alastor.

"Mommy, why does your stomach hurt every morning that makes you not want to eat?" Elena wondered as she watched her mom pour some mix into the waffle maker.

"It's because my body is adjusting to the baby." Heart answered as she closed the lid of the waffle maker and waited. "So, I get nauseous and sometimes that causes me to get sick. So, thinking about food makes me sick a bit."

Elena tilted her head, "Then why do you eat toast and crackers a lot?"

Heart chuckled, "It helps settle my stomach since there is something about it that just makes you feel better."

"The baby isn't hurting you is it?" The girl asked worriedly.

The woman shook her head with a giggle. "Not at all. It's just what happens when you have a baby. Your body goes through a lot of changes in a short amount of time. They aren't hurting me at all. If anything, it just shows that they are healthy." She unconsciously rubbed her small bump that was forming now but was still pretty hidden.

That lifted a weight off her shoulders, but then had another question, "So how long till my brother or sister gets here anyway?"

"Not for another six months Elena. Don't worry, I want to meet them just as much as you do." Heart answered. "You're full of questions today." She laughed before she went over to check on the waffles.

"Sorry I was only curious." She said sadly.

"It's ok, I don't mind answering your questions." Heart said and then heard Alastor on the stairs. "Sounds like dad's finally ready."

Indeed, he was, the deer demon walked into the kitchen. "Good morning my darlings." He greeted the small family before going over to the coffee pot and grabbing a cup of coffee.

"Good morning daddy!" Elena greeted him back and went up to her dad to give him a hug.

Luckily, Alastor put his cup down before she hugged him so he wouldn't spill it. "Ready for your start of summer classes my light?"

"Yes I am ready and I won't let you down!" She said excitedly.

"That's my girl. At least it's only for four hours instead of a full day. That has to be something at least." Alastor said as he petted her head.

"That won't affect your work will it?" Elena asked a little worried since they knew how much work was important.

"It's ok." Heart started to say. "The restaurant is letting me skip out on my lunch shows and I'm only doing dinner. So, I'll have time to pick you up on the days I work there. You'll just have to be at the hotel for a bit till we're done."

"Yes and I've shortened my morning broadcasts so that I can pick you up on those days." Alastor added.

"That's ok with me." The little hybrid's tail wagged.

Heart nodded and took out the waffle that was finished and started another. She brought the waffle to the girl who started to eat it. As the woman stood there making sure to clean up a little, arms wrapped around her waist. She looked behind her to see Alastor hugging her from behind. His long fingers found their way around to her stomach and rubbed it softly. She calmed at his touch and felt relaxed, leaning against him.

"You've gotten so big." The deer demon commented as he whispered in her ear. "I love seeing you pregnant."

Heart blushed and giggled softly. "Al, behave." She said and looked over at her daughter but it seemed Elena was too lost in thought and enjoying her waffle to notice them.

"Oh, you know you like me touching your pregnant belly. Especially if you're not feeling well. I was just doing it last night." He said innocently.

She blushed deeper. "Well, you got me there. Sneaky deer." She relaxed in his hold and let his big hands run across the shirt she was wearing as he rubbed her small belly bump.

The deer demon kissed her neck. "Mmm, I love you."

"I love you too." She says and bit her lip as he kissed her, trying to push dirty thoughts aside. She then giggled. "Al, you're going to make me burn the waffles."

"You can still work as I do this." Alastor whispered against her neck and started to kiss it again.

Heart shivered and goosebumps went up her arms. "No, I can't. Can we wait till we get back to do this?" She asked in a whisper.

The radio demon growled in annoyance but she did have a point. He kissed her neck one last time before pulling away. "I'll keep you to that darling." He says before grabbing his coffee and going to the table to sit down.

The hybrid was able to let out a sigh of relief as he walked away. He was so handsy the last few days. Not that she complained though so she was just enjoying it while he was in the mood for it. She was going to have a long pregnancy ahead of her, that was for sure.

Once the waffles were made she sat down as well and ate with her family. Soon enough they finished, so they put the dishes in the sink and got ready to get Elena to school for her small summer class. Alastor already had his shadow planned to accompany the girl to make sure nothing happened while she was there.

They all got into the car and Alastor drove to the school. He looked at Elena through the rearview mirror. "Just a reminder Elena, Shadow will be watching over you in school for the summer."

"I know daddy. It's for my protection." Elena said as she looked and saw the shadow peek at her from the other side, on the floor of the car.

"That's right, but please don't bring attention to him. I'd rather not have him be found out."

"Don't worry. Besides, Shadow is good at hiding." She said as she smiled at the familiar.

The shadow went up to the girl and laid in her lap like a small cat and purred. It made her laugh. "Good shadow." She said as she petted it.

Alastor saw the display and smiled with a breathy chuckle before turning his eyes back on the road. Once they arrived at the school, the man parked the car at the front of the school and Heart helped Elena out of the car. "I'm going to take you to class, ok? I just want to be sure you get there ok." The woman told the girl so Elena nodded.

"You want me to come to my wolf?" Alastor asked.

"No." She answered quickly and gave him a slanted look as she closed the car door. "I'm fairly sure you're banned from entering the school. I heard what you did to that teacher and principal sir and I'm still not happy about it."

The radio demon laughed, "Can't win them all my love. Besides, they deserved it."

The woman cocked her hip and looked at him with a look that said she didn't believe him. "Right, I can imagine so but stay here ok."

"As you wish, my queen. I shall stay." The deer said and parked the car then sat back.

Heart rolled her eyes and held Elena's hand as they headed up the stairs and into the school. She walked down the hall with her till they got to the room. Heart knocked on the door before entering. She looked around until she spotted the minotaur at his desk, his arm was in a sling. It must have still been broken from the incident, which was surprising since it was so long ago.

"Guess he is a slow healer?" Heart thought to herself as she walked into the room.

"Ah, Mrs. Ledet wonderful to see you and little Elena." The demon greeted them as he stood up from his desk. Elena was surprised by her teacher's demeanor towards them. He was so friendly…what did her father do to him? "I hope you don't mind but there is going to be two other students join us as well since they also failed the school year but wanted to make up the time." The teacher added.

Elena looked around the room and spotted two imps that were already sitting at desks. She recognized them from the halls. They must have been from other classes.

"At least she won't be alone. Do you need anything from me while I'm here?" Heart made sure.

The bull shook his head, "Not at all. Just pick her up in the next four hours."

Heart nodded, "Very well." She looked down at Elena. "Behave and I'll see you soon."

"I will mommy." Elena said before giving her mother a hug and going over to a desk to sit down.

Heart spotted Shadow not far away and nodded before walking out of the room and back down the hall to head out of the school. Alastor was waiting there for her and she managed to get back in the car.

"Well, she is out of our hands now." She says as she closes the door. "Let's go home."

"Still want to keep your promise from breakfast?" Alastor asked with a playful grin.

The woman blushed, "I am. I think I would love that too."

"Then off we go!" He said excitedly and started the drive home.

Elena waited for the lesson to start. Once her mom left, Mr. Toro turned to her. She felt a spike of fear jump in her as the bull came over to her. He put his good hand on the desk and bent over her. "Be lucky, Elena Ledet, that I have to behave with you. Your dad did a number on me and the principal during that meeting." He gave a huff.

"My dad only acts out when he needs to. Not my fault you wouldn't give him his way at first." Elena said with a shrug.

The teacher growled. "Don't be smart with me or I'll break you in any way I have to."

The girl just sat there but didn't' say a word. She wasn't intimidated by him as she was. From what her dad did to him, she could see the small fear still in his eyes. Besides, she had Shadow in the room with her. She knew that if anything happened to her, Shadow would warn her dad and he would be here before you could say Radio Demon. She was here to learn and catch up on work. That is what she intended to do.

Soon the lesson started. Each week would be something different and they had to take a small test by the end of the said week. All leading up to the big test by the end of the two months. Today they did some math and she did have some trouble with it at first but was slowly getting the hang of it.

Before Elena knew it, four hours had passed and it was time to leave. She was surprised at how differently Mr. Toro treated her. She guessed her dad really did do a number on the bull. She didn't mind at all; she was glad to some piece from all the craziness of normal school. Especially to be away from CJ, it was like a breath of fresh air. Plus, the two other imps in her class were mainly quiet and kept to themselves.

Her parents picked her up from school and off they went back home. The rest of the week went well for Elena. She managed to pass the weekly test with flying colors!

The rest of summer school, the girl felt confident about.

[Two Months later]

Elena ran out of the school happy as could be. Heart and Alastor were waiting there for her in the car. They saw the smile on the girl's face as she ran down the stairs. Today was her final big test and she went in confident with help from both her parents these past few weeks. She felt she did really well, the grade in her hand proved this.

"Mommy! Daddy! I did it!" She cheered as she got to the car and handed the paper to her dad.

Heart looked over as well and saw the big A on the top of the paper. The woman smiled. "Oh, honey this is amazing! I'm so proud of you!" She leaned down the best she could and hugged the young girl. Her five-month belly was starting to be a little in the way but she was still able to hug her daughter.

"We both are." Alastor added as he hugged the little hybrid as well. "You worked so hard this summer, little light. I'm happy to see it all paying off."

"Mr. Toro even said I can advance to the next grade now!" Elena jumped with excitement after her parents let her go. "I'm so happy I don't have to be held back. I can be with Sam again too."

"That is true, it is a happy time for sure. I'm sure Sam will be happy to hear this news as well." Heart said as she managed to stand back up straight.

"We already have something planned for you as a reward." Alastor added.

"Really!?" The young girl's tail wagged with excitement. "What is it?"

"We thought about going on a little camping trip." Heart told her. "It would be just behind the house, but we thought it would be a nice weekend thing. Then we can celebrate at the hotel too. You only have a month left before school starts so we are going to get in what we can." She then rubbed her stomach unconsciously. "Especially when the new baby will be here before we know it."

"Do we know what they are yet?" Elena wondered.

"No, I haven't asked Dr. Talon. I think we might leave it a surprise." Heart answered as she looked at Alastor.

The man nodded. "Yes, we agreed that we were going to leave this one a surprise. So only Dr. Talon knows from the last appointment."

"Besides, I think I might already know." Heart thought to herself as she remembered the dream visions she had years before Elena was even born. She was having a boy and this was something she already knew, but if that timeline had changed she didn't mind at all.

"Aw but I wanted to know." The girl said, slightly annoyed.

"I know pup, but don't worry you won't have to wait too much longer." Her mom told her as she booped her nose. "Now let's go home and get ready for this little camp trip."

The young hybrid sighed but nodded. "Ok! Let's go!" She said and Alastor helped her up into the car and they were soon on their way back home.

As the family got home, Elena ran inside with a happy Rufio waiting for her. The girl started to pack a little bag of stuff with her. She even packed a bag with her painting stuff so that she could paint outside. She wanted to practice more with doing scenery, it seemed to be her specialty at the moment.

Heart watched the girl pack her things and helped her when she needed it. After she had all that, they headed outside into the backyard and started to follow the small path into the woods. Rufio was running around them, excited to see where they would be going or doing. The family walked this way all the time and it showed from the dirt path that had formed there. It was a good five-minute walk before they appeared at the waterfall and the small clearing. The hellhound ran out into the clearing, jumping, and having fun already.

"So do we have a tent or how are we going to do this?" Elena asked.

"Not to worry, my light. I have that all covered." Alastor answered.

With the snap of his fingers, the small clearing turned into its own little camp site. A big tent to fit the three of them and then some. A small fire pit appeared in front of the tent with some chairs to sit on. Elena was looking at it amazed. Rufio had stopped in his tracks and started to sniff around the tent area.

"Wow! Dad, that was amazing!" She said happily and ran over to the tent and was already unzipping it and going inside. Rufio got excited from the girl's excitement and followed her inside, sniffing all around the inside of the tent.

The parents laughed at their daughter's reaction and walked over as well to go inside the tent. There was a lot of space in the middle with two other zipping walls on either side that separated the sleeping spaces from the main one.

"You can pick whichever side you want and your father can help you out ok." Heart told her as she was already excited as well for this little weekend.

Elena hummed in thought and pointed to the right side of the tent. "I pick this side."

"Sounds wonderful darling." He then looked down at his wife. "Why don't you go rest outside for now dear? I'll help her here. Plus, I can set up our side as well."

"That would be good. If you need anything just let me know." Heart agrees as she heads outside and sits on one of the chairs set up by the fire pit. Rufio went back outside the tent and sat down next to his master, putting his head in her lap. She chuckled at the hound and patted his head as she enjoyed the sounds around her.

Soon enough, with help of a little magic, Alastor and Elena got the tent already for them to sleep in. Plus, some other things they might have needed. They set up a small sitting area inside the middle of the tent in case they needed it. Eventually it was getting close to dinner time so once Alastor stepped out of the tent, "Who wants something to eat? I know I worked up an appetite."

Elena jumped out of the tent. "Me! I'm starving!"

Rufio jumped up and barked as he circled around the small sitting area.

Heart laughed at them. "I'm definitely in the mood for something." Just then her stomach growled loudly and it made her blush, so she hid her face for a moment.

The deer demon laughed. "Looks like you're not the only one dear. The new fawn has also answered for you."

"Indeed, they have." She still had a blush but chuckled. "So, what are you thinking of making?"

"Well, this is a camping trip and I want it to feel like it, so how about some grilled chicken with some corn and stuff like that?" He suggested.

"Sounds wonderful dear." Heart agreed.

"I don't care what you make daddy! It will be good." Elena said happily. "Would it be ok if I go paint while you work on the food?"

"Of course, pup. Just don't go far, ok?" Heart warned.

"I won't. I'll just be over there where you can see me. Plus, Rufio can come with me." The girl pointed to a tree not far off.

The older hybrid nodded, "Alrighty. Go ahead."

Elena's tail wagged and she grabbed her paint bag and ran over to the tree and sat down. The hound followed the little master as well, sitting down next to her by the tree. As the girl painted, Heart helped Alastor with cooking. At least what he would let her help with.

Heart huffed, "Al, I'm five months pregnant, that doesn't make me fragile."

"I know darling, but I can't help but worry sometimes." The deer demon says to her as he finally puts the breaded chicken over the fire.

The woman rolled her eyes. "I know my buck, but I promise you don't have to worry ok."

Alastor nodded and looked over at Elena who was busy painting. Heart followed his gaze and looked at her as well. They both smiled at her as she was just so lost in what she was doing.

"I'm thinking of teaching her a few things about magic." Alastor finally said low after a few minutes of silence.

Heart's ears perked up and she turned to him. "What? Really?" She wondered aloud. "Are you sure she's ready?"

The Radio Demon sighed, "No, but it's obvious the snake brought some of her powers forward. I need to help her control it a bit better." He tells his wife with a worried look. "I didn't want to with her being this young, but I feel l have no choice."

"Perhaps start that tomorrow? That way we can just have a relaxing day today."

"Of course, my love. I'll start with her after lunch tomorrow."

"We are definitely going to have our hands full." Heart breathed out.

Alastor nodded, "Agreed, because who knows what powers the new little fawn will show when they get bigger."

"They'll probably be more stubborn than you." Heart jokes.

The man huffs then chuckles and goes back to cooking, adding some corn in a skillet onto the fire. "Either way, we'll teach them and everything will be ok."

"I hope so." The older hybrid sighed and sat back in her chair.

After a little while the food was all cooked. Alastor even makes an extra one for Rufio to have. He called Elena over and they enjoyed the food together around the fire. It was honestly a nice little family trip already for them, everything was calm in the woods. Nothing from the city could be heard either. Silence. Just how they liked it. The hellish night sky soon creeped upon them once they were all done eating.

They cleaned up the area before settling around the fire. Elena wanted a scary story, which Heart didn't want her to hear but Alastor told her one anyway. It was about a scary hunter's ghost that would hunt anyone down in the woods before he would kill them. The man's wife was very against him telling this story to their 7-year-old but didn't see harm in it. The girl, on the other hand, was not afraid of the dark forest around them. She was still scared of the dark after all.

Before long it was time for bed, the young girl giving a yawn. With that they decided to call it a night. Heart helped Elena get ready for bed. Alastor made a small lantern light appear on her side of the tent, since she still needed a light to sleep. Plus, she had Owen in her arms and Rufio curled up beside her.

Heart tucked her in on the air mattress, "Goodnight pup, I'll see you in the morning ok." She said as she leaned down and kissed the girl's forehead.

"Goodnight mommy. Goodnight daddy." Elena said softly as she felt her eyes get heavy.

"Goodnight my fawn." The deer demon kissed her forehead as well.

"If you need us, we're right on the other side of the tent ok?" The older hybrid reassured the smaller one.

The girl nodded and then yawned.

The parents smiled before leaving her side of the tent and getting ready for bed over on their side. They got dressed for bed and laid down on their air mattress as well. They were both on their sides as Alastor had his arms wrapped around Heart's middle. He snaked his hand up and under her shirt to rub her baby bump.

"Al, again?" Heart whispered with a small giggle.

"I can't help it. Let me enjoy myself." Alastor whispered back and just put his nose in her hair.

The woman rolled her eyes but let the man have his way. They were just lying there calmly, letting sleep take over them until Alastor felt something under his fingers. The man lifted his head and stayed still to see if it would happen again. Not a few seconds later he felt the movement again under his palm.

"Darling, you feel that?" Alastor asked her.

Heart chuckled. "I can." She looked over her shoulder a little at him. "I started feeling those kicks as I was laying down. It's the first time I've felt them like this. I wanted to see how long it would take you."

The deer demon laughed softly, "Not long at all dear."

"With how handsy you are with me; I knew it wouldn't be long." The woman admitted and placed a hand on top of her husbands. "I'm happy to just know they are healthy."

"As do I. They are safe. Plus, you are doing such an excellent job." He nuzzled into her hair.

Her face blushed. "Oh, Al, you flatter me. I don't do much."

"But of course, you do." The man kissed her cheek. "You do so much and you know I will do whatever I can to help you. Your body goes through so much while you're pregnant, so I want to make sure you're comfortable and safe. Plus make sure the fawn is safe too."

Closing her eyes, Heart smiled and spoke. "Thank you Al."

Alastor kissed her cheek. "You're welcome my wolf. Now, get some sleep."

She didn't have to be told twice because as soon as he said that she was already falling into a nice sleep, all cuddled up in his arms.

In the middle of the night, Elena couldn't sleep. Even with Rufio with her and having Owen tucked in her arms, the girl just couldn't sleep. The dark woods outside seemed scarier at nighttime, especially after the story her father told her. The hound sensed the young girl's distress as he tried to comfort her by getting closer to her and even giving her face a few licks. It helped a little but it wasn't enough. Eventually the girl got up and walked over to her parents' side of the tent. She unzipped the wall part and looked in to see both her parents asleep, Alastor still holding onto Heart.

The small hybrid stepped into their space and kneeled down beside the edge of their mattress and shook her mother's arm for a moment. "Mommy." She whispered.

Heart was just dead asleep but Alastor was the one that was woken up, he could be a light sleeper. He lifted his head to see the girl. "Elena? Why are you up little light?" He asked in a whisper.

"I couldn't sleep. I'm scared." She answered softly.

"It's ok, my fawn. Want to lay between us?" Alastor suggested it to her.

Elena nodded.

The deer demon let go of his wife and scooted over more for the girl. She crawled in from the bottom and laid down between her two parents. The shifting of the mattress woke the older hybrid though and she opened her eyes a little, her ears swiveling. "Al? What's going on?"

"Sorry mommy." Elena's little voice said behind her.

That got the woman's attention and managed to try and lie on her other side to look at the girl now lying between them. "Elena? Are you ok dear?" she asked as she went to pet one of her daughters' ears.

"I'm ok, just a little scared that is all." She admitted.

"We won't worry then. You can lay here with us tonight and we'll keep you safe." Heart told her as she booped her nose.

The small girl smiled. "Thank you."

"Of course, little light, now get some rest." Alastor said and petted her head before laying back down.

Elena got close to her mother and snuggled into her chest. Heart smiled and wrapped her arms around the girl and held her as close as she could. At least she could finally get some sleep, feeling safe in her mother's arms. Heart petted the girl until she felt her fall asleep. She kissed her head before laying down and trying to get some sleep herself. This camp trip and the rest of the summer was going to be good and she'd make sure of that.

So glad about how this chapter turned out ^^ Hope you all liked it too. Now onto the next and someone exciting gets to meet Elena as she goes back to school.
