The discovery
The bell rang for the next period as Alex walked into the classroom. The class was filled with noise as students formed their various groups, chatting and laughing while waiting for the next teacher. Alex approached Ethan, a tall boy with dark hair and hazel green eyes, who was gazing out the window. A flock of girls admired him from afar, as ever since Ethan broke up with Sarah, the most popular girl in school, every other girl seemed to be vying for his attention. Alex, a tall blonde with golden yellow eyes and Ethan's best friend, couldn't help but scoff at the girls drooling over him.
"Come on, Ethan, let's go," he called out. Ethan looked at him and smiled before following him out.
"Are they dating?" a girl asked in disappointment as she watched the two school heartthrobs leave the class.
"I doubt it. Alex is dating that boring Christian girl," sighed another.
"I hope they break up soon," one moaned.
"See how those girls are drooling over you, man? I feel threatened," Alex joked.
"Why is that?" an angry voice thundered, scaring the boys as soon as they got to the school backyard.
"Nothing, babe," Alex blushed as a short girl with white hair rushed towards him, dragging him by the tie.
Maya, a thick, short African American girl with amazing white hair and brown eyes, is Alex's girlfriend, and they had been dating for three months.
"Did you bring the flower?" Olivia, the fourth member of their little party, asked.
"All here," Maya brought out the weed from her backpack.
"All right!" the group cheered as they started preparing the weed.
"Hope you can get away with this in school, you never know," Alex whispered to Maya as he hugged her, and they began kissing.
"Gross, pass the lighter," Olivia joked.
"She's just jealous and still single," Alex laughed while hugging Maya from behind.
"I prefer the word 'independent'," Olivia said as she lit her smoke.
"Pass the lighter, Miss Independent," Ethan asked Olivia.
The group dived into different discussions, laughter filling the air as they engaged in their daily routine.
Ethan soon noticed a patch of weirdly glowing sand. It wasn't their first time skipping classes, but he had never noticed it before.
"Let's ask Ethan... Ethan, don't you think I am model-worthy?" Olivia asked, seeking validation. Meanwhile, Alex continued to mock her. However, Ethan's mind was elsewhere, and he did not reply.
"I agree with Ethan. You're not even worth a speech..." Alex laughed, causing Olivia to look away, feeling defeated.
"Guys, check this out!" Ethan called out to the gang.
"What's up?" they moved towards him. Ethan pointed at the patch of weirdly glowing sand
"I think something's buried here." Ethan pointed out.
"You think it's treasure?" Alex's eyes lit up.
"Only one way to find out," Maya smiled at her crew.
Curiosity led them to start digging with their bare hands. After what seemed like forever, they struck a hard surface. Their eyes lit up as they imagined what treasure awaited them. They brought out the old chest and cracked it open. Inside, they found some old photographs, weird antiques...
"What are all these junk items? Where is the treasure? I was supposed to be rich!" Alex melted down.
"Sorry, Bea, but if you keep shouting like that, you will be dropping out," Maya patted his back.
"I wonder how much these antiques cost," Ethan asked.
"Don't hold your breath, no one will buy these junk," Olivia sighed. She soon noticed an old diary as well as some photos and showed them to the crew.
The diary contained very disturbing photos: faces of high school students with a Red Cross on their faces. It also contained a list of names and strange predictions.
"October 12, 2022... Ana Linn's daughter will commit suicide... Glory Davis will have a car accident... this is some messed up stuff," Olivia exclaimed, handing the diary to the rest of the crew as they delved deeper.
"Guys... Guys!!!" Maya called out with fear evident in her body and sweat forming on her face. She looked as if she had seen a ghost. "What's wrong, babe?" Alex asked, visibly concerned.
"I knew a Linn once, Faith Linn, in my chemistry class. She committed suicide last year," Maya revealed.
"Oh, I remember. She was in your chemistry class? That's unsettling," Alex comforted her, patting her back.
"What are you trying to say, Maya?" Ethan asked, seeking clarification.
