I never wrote a multi-part story.
But as I finished publishing "Turn to Dust", I felt there was more to tell, as another story.
It came as "Sparking the Fire", but there was more to tell, and this "Lost and Found" was born.
Begin by reading "Turn to Dust" (since fanfiction does not allow me to include a link, google Turn To Dust JCRMDI, and the link to the fic should come up as one of the top results). Then read "Sparking The Fire" (again, google Sparking The Fire JCRMDI, and the link to the fic should come up as one of the top results).
Jane and Maura/Dory have been RIZZLES together, but things get… complicated…
ALERT: if you have not watched the show yet, there might be spoilers – I use references to things that happened across all seasons.
DISCLAIMER: I do not own Rizzoli & Isles nor any of the characters from the show. I am writing this purely for entertainment, not profit. Rizzoli and Isles are property of Tess Gerritsen and TNT.

Enough of disclaimers and warnings – read at your own risk. Reviews are always welcome.
Chapter 1
"Maur, what is up, baby?" Jane asked, for the tenth time that day alone.
Jane was unsure about what might have happened. Since they had come back from their last visit to Boston about five weeks ago, Maura was acting up weird.
She would sit looking at nothing for long periods of time, and then she would be deeply sad, and then she would be irritable.
Jane tried her best to give Maura space, but it was hurting her not to know how to help the woman she loved through whatever was paining her.
"I told you already, Jane, it is nothing. Stop worrying." Maura snapped, deviating her eyes.
Jane knew there was something. She just couldn't figure out what, no matter how much she tried.
Jane had recapped their visit to Boston many times since they arrived, trying to figure out what might have gone wrong.
They had driven there soon after the third month anniversary of their first date, aiming to share the news of being together with their family.
Although Jane and Maura had been a bit apprehensive about how Jane's family would receive the news, the reaction was of love and acceptance, as if all of them already had expected it to happen for years. Jane and Maura had also broken the news to Maura's parents in France over video, and Jane remembered seeing the knowing smile of Constance – the one who seemed to have suspected all along.
There had been not a discussion, not a fight, nothing that Jane could identify as the source of Maura's stress.
Jane was sure Maura had no chance to talk with Frankie alone – the only other potential suspicion from Jane being Maura having learned some new development about the dangers around her and keeping them to herself instead of sharing.
"Maur…"
"I am fine, Jane. Just tired. Really. Let it go." Maura insisted.
Jane had tried to be extra attentive and caring. Do things Maura enjoyed, pamper her. But even that didn't make Maura get out of her shell.
The past three nights, Maura had also ditched sex. She made love to Jane, but when Jane began to reciprocate, she would complain of pain on her neck or back, or tiredness, and turn Jane down.
Jane was growing worried because she knew how much comfort she could offer with intimacy, but with Maura shutting even that out, Jane was running out of options. Jane planned a nice date for the upcoming weekend. She would pamper Maura out of her funky, Jane promised herself.
Thursdays were the longest days for Maura. Maura had yoga, the only exercise she was allowed to do for now with her recovery still ongoing, at 6AM. And unless Jane woke up to run at that time, they would not see each other until the evening.
Jane woke up for her run at 5.30 AM and woke Maura up for her yoga, kissing her sleepy girlfriend and wishing her a good day before going out of the door.
She arrived back home past 7PM. Maura's car was in the garage, so Jane entered the apartment looking forward to seeing her girlfriend. But the two apartments were silent, and after Jane walked and checked the bathrooms in case Maura was in a bath, she realized Maura was not home.
Jane walked to the kitchen, picking up her phone to text Maura while she considered what she could make for dinner that would cheer Maura up.
Jane knotted her eyebrows when the moment she sent the text, she heard an immediate buzz. Jane sent another text, and followed the sound, to a fancy cupboard Maura had by the main door where keys and other things were left.
There, Jane spotted an envelope reading just Jane on the outside, on Maura's beautiful calligraphy, and with Maura's phone on top of it.
Jane didn't have a good feeling about it, and she immediately moved Maura's phone to the side, and picked the envelope to read what was inside.
"My beloved Jane,
I know this is the most coward way to do what I must do, but as much as I tried, I could not find the courage to do it any other way.
I just hope one day you can forgive me.
I am gone, and I am not coming back.
Don't try to find me.
Please move on with your life – you, more than anyone I know, deserves to be happy.
M."
It was less than half a sheet of paper, but Jane felt as if her heart had been cut open out of her chest. It was Maura's calligraphy. It didn't seem to have been written under duress. Jane was stunned, in pain. She sat heavily, tears streaming down her face, trying to understand what might have triggered such an extreme action.
And with Maura's phone here, there was no way she could easily track Maura whereabouts.
She picked her phone and called Frankie.
"Jane! How are you?" her brother's friendly voice on the phone was a shock to how dreadful she was feeling.
"Frankie, I need to ask you a question, and I need you to be straightforward with me."
"Of course, Jane. Is everything okay?" Frankie asked, concerned with the strained tone of Jane's voice.
"No, it isn't. The last time we were in Boston, or since then… Did you learn something new about the mob?" They all made a point of never referring to Maura's name on the phone or texts.
"No, Jane. The latest we heard was on Christmas. Since then, it has been quiet." Frankie kept the same protocol Jane had adopted. "Why? Did anything happen, Jane?"
"I am not sure… I will get back to you later, okay?"
"Be careful, Jane."
Jane ended the call, and immediately dialed Dean's number, hating herself for doing it.
"Jane!"
"Is it safe to talk over this line?"
He sighed on his side of the line.
"I am on the street, I will stop by. Are you home?"
"Yes."
"Be there in ten."
And ten minutes later, her doorbell rang.
Jane motioned him in, locking the door behind him.
"Where did they take her this time?" Jane asked, by way of greeting.
Dean looked puzzled at Jane.
"Take her? You mean Maura?"
"Of course I mean Maura, Dean. Where is she?"
"I swear to God, Jane, I have no idea what you are talking about."
"Did you see her in the Agency today?"
"No… But I don't see her every day. What is going on, Jane?"
Jane rubbed her face, tiredly.
"She is gone."
"She might just be late…" he recalled what had happened a few months before, when Jane had panicked not hearing from Maura as expected.
"She is not late, Dean. She is gone." Jane handed him the letter.
He read, and exhaled, looking at Jane.
"Are you two together?"
"I should thank you. Yes. A week after Dory's surprise birthday party. But after this… I should say we were together." Jane buried her fingers in her dark hair.
"I will stop by the campus and check, Jane. At least I could see if she came in or not. But I can assure you that, if anything happened, I was not aware of it, at least not until now."
Jane looked deeply into his eyes. Her guts told her he was telling the truth.
"I believe you. Thank you, Dean."
About one hour later, her phone rang, it was Dean. "Seems you use the same approaches to life. An unpaid leave of absence was filled early this morning."
"Shit…"
"Can I help you with anything else?"
"Not for now. But thank you, Dean. I owe you."
"Don't mention it. Go find her. Good luck."
Jane knew her next call needed to be to Constance. But right now it was the middle of the night in Europe. And Jane would not risk giving Constance a heart attack by calling her in the middle of the night.
It was almost 10PM, so Jane decided she would remain awake for a few hours, so she could speak with Constance as soon as it was a godly hour in France.
Jane held the letter close to her chest, fighting her tears, as she recapped the past few weeks, the past few months, coming up empty with whatever might have triggered Maura's sudden decision to leave.
