Chapter 6
The evenings were chilly during that time of the year. Jane was sitting in the sofa, on her tailored suit, that Maura had given her as a gift a few months back, wearing a purple oxford shirt, and short heeled boots, waiting for Maura to get ready.
She was glad she was sitting when Maura walked into the room coming from her walk-in closet. She was wearing and elegant dark green dress, long sleeved, with a shirt collar and ruched pleats. It was a midi dress, and Maura was wearing high heel boots that went to her knees. She looked absolutely breathtaking.
Noticing the effect she had on Jane, Maura teased: "Do you like what you see?" And turned around.
"Very…" Jane had to clear her throat twice, her mouth suddenly dry. "Very much." She stood, placing a hand on Maura's hip: "You look stunning…"
"Not as dashing as you…" Maura appreciatively ran her hands inside Jane's suit top, caressing her sides, and Jane gasped to the contact.
"We don't want to be late…" Jane held Maura's forearms, knowing that if she let Maura continue that path, they would end up in bed and never leaving home.
"I can handle delayed gratification…" Maura whispered by Jane's ear before letting go of her.
Jane chuckled. That woman would still be the death of her. But she would die happy, oh so very happy.
Jane drove them to the 1789 restaurant in Georgetown. It was an amazing setting, very romantic, with superb food and drinks.
"You know you already conquered me, right?" Maura teased. "You don't need to woo me with a fanciful place like this… And I happen to enjoy relaxed casual dinners…"
"And you know we do plenty of those, and more than plenty of delivery… But every now and then, I like the idea of having something special, like tonight…"
"I am not complaining. This place is special, for sure…"
When they finished their delicious dinner and Jane had gotten the bill, she steered Maura away from their car.
"Will you walk with me? I promise it is not far…"
Maura hooked her arm through Jane's.
"Of course."
They walked slowly for about ten minutes, talking quietly, relishing leaning on each other, reaching Georgetown Waterfront Park. From the canal, the waterfront view with the night lights seemed like a fairytale.
"Wow, this is lovely, Jane…" Maura whispered, mesmerized by the view ahead of them.
"It is absolutely lovely…" and Jane's voice sounded different, what attracted Maura's attention, who finally realized it was not that Jane's voice sounded different, but just that Jane was speaking from below her, having gone on one knee by Maura's side.
Maura's eyes went wide, and she bore them in Jane's smiling face beneath her.
"I want to love you in ways you didn't know possible. I want to bring you to a wonderful life full of love and joy and happiness. I can't wait to have moments like this for the rest of our lives… Maura Dorothea Isles, will you make me the happiest woman in the world and marry me?" Jane said, without deviating her eyes from Maura's hazel ones, and opening the box she had on her suit.
Maura bent forward, taking Jane's hands in hers, and raising her from the floor, happy tears welled in her eyes.
"Yes… yes… yes…" each yes punctuated by a kiss to Jane's lips.
Jane took Maura's hand in hers, and slipped the engagement ring in Maura's ring finger. It fit perfectly. She then kissed the ring on Maura's hand.
"This is a reminder of my commitment to you, my love. We are in this together, don't you ever forget that you are not alone." Jane added, kissing Maura soundly before pulling her closer into her arms, and Maura hugged her tightly in return, whispering "I love you." in the shell of Jane's ear.
Jane kissed Maura's lips, whispering: "Every time I kiss your lips, it is my way of showing you how much I love you…". She kissed Maura's forehead and then her temple, gently. "Every time I kiss your forehead, or your temple, I want to remind you that you are safe." Jane finally moved again to kiss the soft skin below Maura's ear, into the crook of her neck, her voice a caress. "Whenever I kiss you everywhere else, I want you to know how much you are desired…"
They spent a long while enjoying their close proximity, and the beautiful view from the waterfront ahead of them, until Maura shivered in Jane's arms.
"Are you cold?" Jane asked, rubbing Maura's arms.
"A little… Will you take us back home? I am sure my fiancée can warm me up in no time…" Maura suggested seductively.
Jane chuckled and leaned in to kiss her softly. "As you wish…"
They walked back to the car, Maura's arm around Jane's waist, Jane's arm around Maura's shoulder, Maura leaning in against Jane.
They drove in silence to the apartment, Maura discreetly looking at the ring in her hand, as if not believing it was really there.
"Are you okay?" Jane asked, gently.
"I am much better than okay, Jane…" Maura took Jane's right hand while Jane held the steering wheel with her left. "I am happy. Very, very happy. You make me very happy."
"The feeling is mutual." Jane squeezed Maura's hand in hers.
Once in the apartment, they both stripped quickly, meeting naked by the foot of the bed.
"I want to tell you and to show you all the things I love about you…" Jane whispered in Maura's lips after kissing her lovingly, and guiding her to lay in bed, Jane moving to lay by her side, flush with her.
"I love your regal features, that make me think of queens and princesses…" Jane left a finger trace the contours of Maura's face, gently, before her lips followed the same path.
"I love your single dimple…" And Jane kissed said dimple. "Because yours was so precious that God could only issue a unique one… I love each one of your charming freckles, dusting your face like muted glitter. I love your ever-changing hazel green eyes, and I swear I could drown in them and never get tired of them. I love your smile, I love the sound of your voice and even more the sound of your laughter. I love your statuesque neck…" and Jane's lips ran through Maura's neck, her voice deep and husky, "… the swell of your breast…", and Jane's hand covered proffered breasts.
"I love the curve of your hips." Jane stroked Maura's hips.
"I love your smooth abs…" Jane ghost caressed Maura's abdomen. "Your supple buttocks" and Jane fondled Maura.
"I love the satin skin of your thighs…" Jane touched Maura's inner thighs with the pad of her fingers. "… and the incredible muscles of your calves" Jane pulled one of Maura's legs closer to her, pressuring said calves.
"I love your tiny delicate hands." Jane picked one hand, and kissed first the back and then the palm of it.
"I love your soft lips…" Jane leaned in to kiss Maura hungrily. "And the other soft lips…" and Jane's hand reached the apex between Maura's thighs, finding her wet and ready.
"I love each gasp, and each sigh, and each whimper, and each moan that escapes your mouth. I love you from your head to your toes, inside and outside."
Maura had been made love in many different ways along her life. Mostly men were either eager to impress her by pleasing her – or to get their pleasure from her. But never, ever before she had been made love with words like Jane was making love to her now. Her head was spinning, pleasure crawling underneath her skin and through her insides, her entire body humming to Jane's vibe. It was as if Jane was all around her, over her, inside her, and she let herself be consumed by Jane, exploding in a mind-blowing orgasm like none she had ever experienced before.
When Maura opened her eyes from her high, flashing lights still exploding behind her eyelids and her breathing still ragged, Jane was holding her tightly, reverently observing her, as if she was the most precious being in the world. And Maura finally realized that, for Jane, she was.
