Chapter 9
"This is perfect…" Maura whispered, sighing, looking around her.
Jane had to agree.
After a few weeks of careful consideration, Maura had decided against the offer of Santorini – Jane had been willing to go all-in with Maura's fantasy wedding dreams, but Maura decided they would go to Santorini as a honeymoon instead, only the two of them. Reality was that flying everyone to Santorini would likely raise some unnecessary attention and suspicions.
Instead, Maura had opted by a beautiful property by the water, in the Hapmtons. It was spacious enough with four bedrooms to accommodate everyone – Constance and Arthur, Tommy and TJ, Frankie and Nina, and Angela. It also had a separate guesthouse where Jane and Maura would stay. It had a gorgeous patio connecting the houses and opening into the sands of the beach.
"It is almost as beautiful as the bride…" Jane whispered on the shell of Maura's ear, stealing a kiss on the soft spot behind Maura's ear.
"Not even close to as beautiful as my bride." Maura teased, turning into Jane's arms to tangle her hands in dark curls and pulling Jane down for a loving kiss.
"Before we get distracted…" Jane interrupted, knowing how this would evolve. "You have an appointment with the couture to finalize any adjustments to your gown…"
"And you are not going to tell me what you decided for yours?"
"No…" Jane teased. "You will have to wait and see… Maybe I will show up in faded jeans…"
"As if I would care… You know that, don't you?"
"I do. But I like the nice fine things in life every now and then… Having the finest woman in life taught me to appreciate a more refined taste…" Jane praised, kissing Maura lightly, letting her kiss linger in a promise for so much more.
Jane rolled their bags to the guesthouse, and led Maura by the hand back to the car, so she could drive Maura to the couture, promising to pick her up as soon as she texted Jane she was ready. Jane then drove to a tailor she had researched online and spoke with over the phone a few weeks before. She had explained the color pattern of Maura's dream dress, and got the suggestion from him about what they could do with a feminine tux for her. It was the first time she was going to try it, and she hoped she would not regret it.
And she shouldn't. By the time she walked out from the dressing room for the tailor to mark out any final adjustments, she felt like the most powerful and beautiful woman in the world, worthy of her beautiful wife.
"You could have been a top model." The tailor praised, walking around her, and using pins on the minor adjustments pending.
He was openly gay, dressed nicely, and had been spot on from the first conversation Jane had with him remotely. He had explained which measurements he would need, had observed her over video, and she was pleasantly surprised with the ensemble he had prepared for her.
The cut of the pants valued her long legs, the top of the tux was traditional, but from the waist down it flared up on her narrow hips. It was feminine without being super girly, and Jane absolutely adored it. He had chosen a fitting shirt, in a pearl color, satin shiny, with a low-cut cleavage, again very feminine.
"If you allow me one suggestion, don't tie your hair. It will be a great contrast to have your dark hair and the off-white of the tux."
Jane looked herself in the mirror and smiled. Yes. Definitely worth of her fiancée.
She undressed carefully to avoid moving any of the pins, and he confirmed he would have everything ready for her the following morning.
As she was sitting back on the car, Maura texted her she was ready.
"Hey… How was it?" Jane asked, seeing the excitement written all over Maura's face, the big bulky package containing her dress securely stored in the car.
"Oh, Jane… It is exactly like I dreamed of it… There were only minor adjustments, that she already made…"
"I am glad to hear…"
Her phone pinged.
"We should head back home. My family is arriving from Boston. Have you heard from your parents?"
"They landed about half an hour ago, and they should be here in two hours the latest."
It was a Friday afternoon, and they had set their "wedding" for Saturday late morning. They would have a catered brunch, that would be setup for them, but without service, so there would be nobody with them during the day, giving them privacy. And Jane made a point of having the hazelnut almond, chocolate ganache, and mocha buttercream cake Maura always dreamed of.
They arrived to the rental house a minute before Frankie pulled the car with the five Rizzoli's, and Jane and Maura found themselves being hugged, kissed, squeezed and cheered up by their loud family.
Jane and Maura walked them through the main house, where they had already assigned the bedrooms, so they could settle.
Arthur and Constance arrived a while later, and were also welcomed and shown to their room, so they could rest – they had a long flight behind them, and they were the older of the bunch.
While the Isles rested, the Rizzoli's joined Jane and Maura by the beach. In the end of the afternoon sun, they all sat relaxed, while TJ ran on the sand. It was a private strip of beach, no houses close by, and they had plenty of privacy.
"Are you all set?" Angela asked Jane and Maura.
"Yes… My attire will be ready tomorrow morning, so I will drive there and come back ready to rock and roll. Maura's is ready, so she can be here, and you and Constance can help her out – and that will allow us to fulfill the superstition of not seeing each other until the moment of our wedding. The cater will set up food around 10AM and leave, they will come back after 6PM to remove things. And we will have the day privately to ourselves."
"We brought professional level cameras, so we can have plenty of pictures." Nina offered. There would be no professional photographers, otherwise they would need to address Maura as Dory and they wanted to make sure Maura could just be Maura in this special day.
"And for dinner tonight?"
"I have a delivery setup for later. Italian tonight." Maura explained.
They had done the best they could so all could enjoy that moment, still maintaining as much privacy as they could.
Arthur and Constance came to join them by the late summer sunset, and were updated on the plans.
Delivery from the Italian restaurant arrived, and they all sat around the comfortable table in the main room, delicious wine flowing with their relaxed conversation. It was good to be with family. It was good to be together for a celebration.
They all said their good nights, since it had been a long day driving or flying for all of them. Back in the guest house, Jane was already in bed when Maura finished her nightly routine and laid besides her.
"This is the last night we sleep as fiancées…" Maura sighed.
"Technically, we are wife and wife since the justice of peace pronounced us on Wednesday." Jane chuckled.
"Technically, you are married to Dory since Wednesday. Tomorrow is when you marry me." Maura argued, rolling on top of Jane.
"Why do I have a feeling this is just your argument to seduce me?" Jane chuckled.
"Hmmm… I will not confirm or deny it… Is it working?" Maura asked, playfully, craning her neck to nibble on Jane's bottom lip.
"100% effective…" Jane mumbled, deepening the kiss. And that was the last coherent sentence between them for the rest of the night…
