Reflet was not a happy camper.
They had returned to Ylisstol just in time for the Plegian army to attack, and with the Pegasus Knights in tatters and the Shepherds on their way to Regna Ferox, there was little the city guards and local militia could do in the way of resistance, and before long, the Plegians had breached the city and were knocking on the castle gates.
Reflet, Captain Phila, and the other remaining Pegasus Knights had fought as hard as they could to protect Emmeryn but were quickly overwhelmed. At Emmeryn's request, they surrendered, and the Plegian general, a man named Mustafa, honoured the surrender with mercy Reflet had not expected.
However, it meant that Reflet was now a prisoner of war and was currently sitting in a Plegian dungeon, despite the kindness of General Mustafa, while the Mad King Gangrel prepared to execute Emmeryn. Needless to say, Reflet was frustrated with her current state of helplessness.
As she lay in the dingy cot provided for her in her cell, pondering possible escape strategies, a loud noise from outside the door drew her attention.
Guards were shouting, and a large bang shook the door on its hinges as if someone had slammed into it.
Reflet blinked in confusion before scrambling off the cot and looking around the room for something she might use to defend herself. Of course, there was nothing, so Reflet raised her fists like Sully had taught her years ago, and prepared to start swinging.
An axe head split the door with a large CRACK. And then it struck again. And again. After a fourth and final blow, the door shattered, and the grinning face of Khan Basilio appeared in the wreckage.
"Well, don't thank me all at once there, little lady," he said boisterously. "The rescue party is here. Now let's go. We've got an Exalt to save!"
He tossed Reflet her cloak, her sword and tome wrapped inside it, and she quickly pulled the garment over her shoulders while clipping her scabbard back to her belt before she joined the Khan and his men in the hallway.
"Good to see you unharmed, Reflet," Phila said, somehow looking as composed as ever despite her own captivity. Reflet doubted that she looked half as well put together. "Come on. Once we find where the bastards stashed my Pegasus, you can ride with me."
Reflet nodded, and together the party of Pegasus Knights and Feroxi warriors stormed through the dungeons, fighting past any Plegians they came across. They found the knights' captured steeds stabled near the exit to the dungeons in the castle courtyard, and the knights saddled up while Basilio explained the rescue plan Robin had come up with.
Reflet had to admit she was impressed with the plan. She couldn't even think of anything she would've done differently. The Shepherds were in the middle of providing a distraction while Basilio and his men rescued the Pegasus Knights. They had to move quickly because once the Wyvern brigades had been defeated and the skies were clear, it was the job of the Pegasus Knights to swoop in and rescue Emmeryn, carrying her to safety while the Shepherds covered their retreat from the ground.
Soon enough, the Pegasus Knights were all mounted and ready, which was good, because moments after Reflet herself climbed into the saddle behind Phila, a bolt of lightning shot into the air from the nearby battlefield. Recognizing the signal, Phila barked an order, and the ground dropped away as the knights leapt into the air, soaring over the wall and into the courtyard.
Down below, Reflet could see Robin standing next to Chrom. As one, the pair raised their swords in greeting, and the Shepherds gave a mighty cheer as the knights flew past, the mad king screaming his frustration all the while.
Reflet's heart felt full to bursting with emotions, ranging from joy, to relief, to triumph, when all of a sudden, she felt a shift in the air. The temperature dropped noticeably, and a light flashed from below as several Risen archers appeared from nowhere.
Thinking quickly, Reflet shouted to Phila, "Captain! Keep your focus on flying! I'll deal with arrows, just make sure we reach the Exalt!"
"My Pegasus can't carry three people, Reflet! What are you planning!?"
"Just trust me, Phila!"
Phila tensed, but complied with Reflets plan. Concentrating, Reflet placed a hand on her tome, and drew forth the magic she needed. With a cry of "Elwind!" Reflet directed the magical wind to form a swirling vortex just underneath Phila's Pegasus. The spell activated just in time as dozens of arrows streaked into the sky, downing Pegasus knights left and right. Fortunately, Reflet's spell did its job, and the arrows were deflected back downwards by the magical gale force winds.
"ENOUGH!" A magically enhanced voice cut through the air. "I will not see any more of this senseless fighting! People of Plegia! I ask that you hear the truth of my words! War will win you nothing but sadness and pain, both inside your borders and out. Free yourselves from this hatred! From this cycle of pain and vengeance. Do what you must… as I will do. See now that one selfless act has the power to change the world!"
Down below, Chrom screamed Emmeryn's name and broke lines, running as fast as he could in a vain attempt to catch his sister, while several other Shepherds screamed in fear.
"Phila, dive!" Reflet cried desperately.
Immediately Phila guided her Pegasus into a nosedive, and Reflet prepared to do something insane. Letting go of Phila's waist, Reflet leapt from the back of the Pegasus as they zoomed past the spire Emmeryn had fallen from, just barely making it. For a moment, her concentration wavered, but Reflet redoubled her efforts, and the wind kept blowing around Phila, arrows being tossed uselessly to the side as the now unburdened Pegasus swooped underneath the falling monarch like a diving hawk, Phila catching her just in the nick of time, before soaring back up into the air and away over the walls of the courtyard and out of range of the Risen archers.
Reflet released the breath she hadn't even realized she was holding and severed her connection to the magic. She had never maintained a spell for so long before, and she felt as if she had burned through her entire reserve of magic.
Gangrel screamed in fury while Robin rallied the Shepherds back into motion.
"Now! While we have the momentum!" Robin cried. "Shields in front, mages, replicate that wind spell Reflet just cast! Let's take out those archers!"
The Shepherds gave a battle cry and swept across the courtyard with little resistance. With no more Pegasus to shoot at in the sky and Gangrel too furious to give orders, they routed the field with absolutely no resistance.
Reflet, seeking to avoid making herself a target, pressed herself flat against the precipice of the ledge she found herself on and did her best to control her breathing, waiting for the Shepherds to finish the fight and come retrieve her.
She didn't have to wait long. With the skies once again safe, Sumia and Cordelia soon arrived on their Pegasi.
"Never do anything like that again!" Sumia shouted with tears in her eyes as she pulled Reflet into the saddle. "That was terrifying!"
"She's right!" Cordelia agreed. "Do you have any idea how worried we all were?"
Reflet smiled wearily as the two winged horses descended to rejoin the company. "Sorry, girls. I didn't mean to scare anyone. I was so focused on saving Emmeryn that I acted on instinct. Now If you don't mind, I think I'm going to take a nap."
Reflet's eyes drifted shut, but a sharp pain on her thigh woke her right back up. "Oh, no you don't!" Sumia said. "I'll pinch you as many times as it takes, but you're staying awake until we're safely back on the ground and out of sight of this blasted city!"
Reflet groaned, but complied. She could wait a bit longer for her nap.
