Thank you everyone for the positive response to the Percy's Sorting chapter. Percy's Sorting always stood out to me as wrong as he was CLEARLY a Slytherin and not a Gryffindor. I will likely do a few more sorting themed chapters in the future. However, Ginny will not be one of them because I don't feel like I know enough about canon Ginny to evaluate her character(istics)

It was Thursday, September 7th, 1989, and the first year Gryffindor and Slytherin students had just completed their first flying lesson.

Most of the students meandered away after the lesson ended, but Madam Hooch found herself approached by Fred and George Weasley.

"What is it, Weasley and Weasley?" asked Madam Hooch curiously.

"Well, " began Fred, taking the lead, "I noticed that these brooms vibrate."

"Yes, " agreed George, "Plus, they tend to want to always veer a bit leftward. "

"That wasn't just you, " said Madam Hooch matter of factly, "All of the school brooms behave like that."

Fred and George exchanged uncomfortable glances with each other.

"That's exactly what we were afraid of, " piped up Fred, "Vibrating is a symptom of old brooms that are in need of replacement."

"Brooms that are used for flying are supposed to be replaced at least once every five years, " said George knowledgably, "And leading broom experts recommend that brooms that see frequent flying use be replaced every three years."

"Yes," Fred asked Madam Hooch, "How old are these brooms?"

"Your parents rode them in their flying lessons," answered Madam Hooch honestly,

"This is no time for nostalgia," said Fred sharply, "Riding and flying on old and overused brooms is exceedingly dangerous."

"True," agreed George, "These brooms are hard to grip, and overused brooms are also more likely to buck off their riders."

"What brand of brooms are the school brooms," inquired Fred.

"Shooting stars, " answered Madam Hooch patiently.

"The lowest quality broom on the market, " chroused Fred and George, shaking their heads.

"It has long been the opinion of the headmaster that using low quality brooms for school brooms and keeping them for a long time is a good way for Hogwarts to save some money," explained Madam Hooch.

"Fuck Dumbledore, " said Fred fiercely, "He's put every student who passes through Flying Lessons in terrible danger."

"The headmaster won't budge on this," admitted Madam Hooch, "Unfortunately, the Headmaster cares for many things far more than student safety."

"Is there anything you can do?" George asked Madam Hooch.

"I don't have the money to replace the brooms myself. I can't resign in protest either. I need the income I get from being a teacher. And if I resigned, there's no guarantee the students would get a competent flying instructor to teach them safe and proper technique. I've tried talking with the headmaster, but he just goes off about saving money when I try to approach him about this," said Madam Hooch uncomfortably.

Fred and George knew now that Madam Hooch wasn't in a position to help so they bade her goodbye and left the sloping lawns.

Next morning, after their other roommates had left the dormitory, Fred and George asked for a word with their friend Lee Jordan.

"Lee?" asked Fred, "Did you notice yesterday that the school brooms were problematic?"

"Hell, yes," admitted Lee at once, "That vibration, I was terrified out of my wits I was going to be bucked off. I assume that's why the two of you stayed behind after the lesson, to talk to Madam Hooch and see if anything could be done about it."

Fred and George then told Lee about the chat they had had with Madam Hooch the previous day.

"AHH!" grinned Lee, "My father is a broom maker. In fact, he is a broom maker for Cleansweep. I'll write to him and see if he can make some Cleansweeps for the school."

Lee wrote to his dad:

Dear dad:

Yesterday we had our first flying lesson and let's just say that the school brooms leave much to be desired. Fred, George, and I all noticed massive vibrating in the school brooms. As an expert in broom lore, I know you know that is the sign of old and overused brooms. Madam Hooch admitted to Fred and George that the school brooms are old Shooting Stars that our parents rode in their time. Apparently, Dumbledore has decided against replacing the school brooms because he feels keeping the old brooms forever is a way for Hogwarts to save money. Dad, would you be willing to make a set of Cleansweep Fives and donate them to Hogwarts? This is an urgent matter of student safety.

-sincerely

Lee.

Lee took his letter up to the owlery and sent it off with a barn owl.

Later that day, just before Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff first years were to have their first flying lesson, Lindale Jordan approached Madam Hooch carrying a stack of freshly manufactured Cleansweep Fives and Lee's letter.

Lindale Jordan handed the letter to Madam Hooch. When she had finished reading it, Lindale Jordan said, "I am donating this set of just completed Cleansweep Fives to Hogwarts effective immediately. I am quite well off and can afford to skip selling one batch to the general public."

Looking at the Cleansweep Fives, Madam Hooch said happily, "These are perfect for school brooms. Not overly fancy or top of the line or complex, but nice high quality brooms that should be comfortable and safe for early learners in flying."

"Exactly," said Lindale Jordan firmly, "If I can save even one student from getting hurt by providing these brooms to Hogwarts, it will have been well worth it."

Lindale Jordan himself then passed the new Cleansweep Fives around to the students awaiting their flying lesson. He also took the old Shooting Stars, broke them all in half, and threw them in the Black Lake.

Hogwarts students would now ride safer and higher quality brooms during flying lessons.

A/N: In canon, it is said that Fred and George complain to Harry about the school brooms vibrating and flying leftward. I always thought someone should have spoken up about the outdated and dangerous learning brooms and that they should have been replaced.
