I have decided after thinking it over to use the suggestion of audreykitty91 in the last review. It will be in two parts. This one is short, simple, and just has Harry opening the package Sirius gave him. Part two will be much longer and more substantive and I have no idea when it might be posted.

It was Harry Potter's first night back at Hogwarts after 1995 had given way to 1996 and Harry happened to be alone in his dormitory.

In the peaceful and quiet loneliness that now surrounded him, something occurred to Harry; he needed to open the package Sirius had given him earlier that day.

Yes, Harry was not planning to use whatever was in this package, but it occurred to him that he couldn't afford to not open it.

The last thing Harry wanted was to open this package months down the road and discover that what was in it could have been useful if only he had discovered it sooner.

Taking this package out of his left pocket with his left hand, Harry quickly removed the clumsy wrapping to discover an old, small, square mirror.

A note fell out and Harry recognized the handwriting as Sirius's handwriting.

This is a two way mirror. I've got the other. If you need to speak to me, just say my name into it; you'll appear in my mirror, and I'll be able to talk in yours. James and I used to use them when we were in separate detentions.

Harry laughed. It was so Marauder like to be up to mischief while already in detention.

That little dose of humor aside, Harry was glad he had opened this package and discovered the mirror.

No, he would NOT use it to complain to Sirius about the inevitable shitty treatment he was about to face in Snape's Occlumency lessons. And he certainly wasn't going to do or say anything that might risk Sirius leaving Number Twelve Grimmald Place without an extremely important reason.

But what if an emergency came up.

What if he had new dreams about Voldemort or corridors that he didn't understand.

Worse, what if he, Harry had a vision that he suspected might be showing something real.

In a case like that, the most appropriate course of action would be to talk to Sirius about it. In cases like that, Sirius was much more likely to believe than Ron was and less likely to start telling Harry off about not closing his mind than Hermione was. Besides, some situations really did call for a talk with an adult.

And you never knew when an emergency might come up.

It was comforting, reassuring for Harry to knew he had a means of talking with Sirius if a serious situation came up.

Harry knew he couldn't and shouldn't use the mirror indiscriminately.

He would only use the mirror in a seriously serious situation that absolutely called for talking to Sirius.

Harry hoped in this nanosecond that he would never have to use this mirror, but his instincts told him better.
