Note: This piece is very different from what I normally post on this thread. I still want to do follow ups of the previous two chapters. I do still plan on a part 2 for the Romilida chapter where she will learn about her punishment and I have a bit of a surprise planned for the chapter as well and a part 2 for the previous chapter where Harry, Susan, and Luna will help Hannah after her mom dies. I also have an already written birthday themed chapter that I will be posting as February 22nd turns into February 23rd in my homeland of Arizona: February 23rd is my 42nd birthday. However, my birth time is 2;52 A.M. Arizona time and I'm not staying up until 2:52 A.M. so I'll just post it as the date arrives. After that, it's all up in the air. What's this then? it's literally just a fun little story about BFFs being BFFs. That's all. It features two girls who sorted into Ravenclaw, but neither of whom was ever mentioned again if I remember correctly. This chapter is meant to be more lighthearted than the usual fare here.
Many witches and wizards collected chocolate frog cards.
Not so for Mandy Brocklehurst and Lisa Turpin.
Instead, they collected stuffed animals.
In the Wizarding World, there was an entire collection of stuffed magical beasts.
Mandy and Lisa had met on the Hogwarts Express on their very first day at Hogwarts and had instantly bonded over their common love of animals, both muggle and magical.
When Mandy and Lisa both got sorted into Ravenclaw and ended up sharing a dorm, their status as BFFs was cemented.
Both girls had already been in the early stages of collecting stuffed animals when they met each other.
But, after they'd been, both of them had become fierce about their desire to obtain a complete set of stuffed animals.
In their third year at Hogwarts, both Mandy and Lisa were getting close to completing their collections.
It was the last evening before both were to leave Hogwarts for Christmas.
With their only other roommate Padma Patil having her head buried in The Standard Book of Spells grade 3, Mandy and Lisa decided to trade stuffed animals to see if they could help other complete their sets by trading their duplicates with each other.
Both Mandy and Lisa opened their trunks and retrieved their stuffed animal collections, dumping them on their respective beds.
Lisa made the first offer.
"Mandy?" asked Lisa, "Do you have all four fwooper colors?"
Looking down at her collection, Mandy replied, "I am missing orange, but I have two pinks."
"I am missing pink but have two oranges, " responded Lisa.
With the natural move having presented itself, Mandy picked up her extra pink fwooper and Lisa picked up her extra orange fwooper and they made the trade
"Fwoopers are such beautiful birds, " cooed Mandy, "Such vibrant and vivid color. They're my favorite magical creatures because of their natural beauty."
"There's a certain purity about fwoopers that melts that heart," swooned Lisa.
"Lisa?" inquired Mandy, "Do you have a spare crup?"
"I certainly do, " grinned Lisa, "I see that you have a spare kneazle. Kneazle is one I don't have."
"It's a deal, " said Mandy glowingly.
Lisa grabbed her backup crup and Mandy grabbed her backup kneazle and they made the swap.
Both Mandy's and Lisa's eyes lit up and their faces glowed after this swap was complete.
"Dogs are my favorite muggle animal and crups and just like Jack Russell Terriers except for the forked tail, " said Mandy radiantly.
"Cats are my favorite muggle animals, " said Lisa glowingly, "And Kneazles are the closest magical animal to the cat even though it is less like the cat than the crup is like the dog."
"We both just threw each other an eighty yard touchdown pass with that trade!" exclaimed Mandy.
"Yeah, " agreed Lisa, "it's wonderful how this trading thing is helping both of us out.
The trades made on this evening wouldn't be limited to cuter animals and pets though.
Lisa looked through her collection now and declared, "I'm lacking the basilisk. It'll be soooo much fun when I have the basilisk in my collection, and I can play petrifier."
"As for me," put forth Mandy, "I still need the acromantula. it'll be fun to scare people by mimicking the pincers. I happen to possess a second basilisk that I can barter to you for an acromantula."
"Excellent, " beamed Lisa, "We shall make the exchange then!"
Mandy snatched her second basilisk and threw it to Lisa while Lisa snagged her expendable acromantula and tossed it to Mandy.
With an evil grin, Lisa lifted her newly acquired stuffed basilisk and waved it in front of Mandy's eyes.
Playing along, Mandy suddenly pretended to be petrified and stood as still as a statue.
Mandy pretended to be petrified for a few minutes and a few nanoseconds and when she got up again, she said, "Basilisks are probably the scariest creatures in existence apart from dementors and lethifolds. Remember, the real thing only petrifies you if you look at if through the shield of someone or something else. Direct eye to eye contact with a real basilisk will kill faster than Avada Kedavra."
Mandy now put her stuffed acromantula in Lisa's face and started mimicking pincer noises.
After a quarter minute of this, Lisa started to shudder and backed away a bit.
"Is ickle little Lisa scared of the Itsy Bitsy Spider?' teased Mandy.
"Actual acromantulas are huge and eat people, " said Lisa matter of factly, "I'd be terrified if I actually met one."
But then there were also those creatures that weren't really dangerous but demanded respect.
"One stuffed animal I'm still searching for is the inky black hippogriff, " piped up Mandy.
"And I'm still on the trail for the stormy gray hippogriff, though I have two inky blacks." said Lisa briskly.
"I have two stormy grays, " declared Mandy.
At this, Lisa bowed to Mandy. Mandy surveyed Lisa for a few seconds and bowed back.
Mandy picked up a stormy gray hippogriff from her collection and Lisa picked up and inky black hippogriff from hers.
Mandy and Lisa got close enough to each other to complete this exchange by hand, then patted each other on the nose.
"I've got a complete set now!" yelped Mandy when she realized it, "I was the first to complete the set. YOU LIKE THAT! YOU LIKE THAT!"
"Congratulations Mandy!" said Lisa sincerely., happy for her bestie.
After calming down a bit, Mandy asked Lisa seriously, "Which stuffed animals are you missing?"
Looking over her collection carefully, Lisa realized she was closer to completing her collection than she thought. In fact, "Just one," declared Lisa, "I only need the golden snidget to complete my collection. "
"I have a second golden snidget, " said Mandy matter of factly, "I tell you what. I will give you my spare golden snidget so that you can a complete collection too. You don't have to give me anything for it."
Smiling broadly, Mandy plucked her extra stuffed golden snidget off her bed and gently set it down on Lisa's bed.
"Enjoy having a collection, too, Lisa, " beamed Mandy.
"Thanks," smiled Lisa.
