This is the last of the pieces being transitioned from being a stand alone one shot. This will be the only time I ever post two chapters on the same night. Chapter 75 will be a freshly written piece that will get this thread back to the roots of its title. I'd for chapter 75 to be something I haven't yet explored in this thread and I have a few ideas under consideration.
It was a lazy summer day on the Morning of Saturday, July 16th, 1994.
It was just past ten and Lavender Brown was quietly sitting in her room reading.
As Lavender had finished reading The Magician's Nephew a few days prior, she was now starting to read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.
Just as she was finishing chapter 1, Lavender heard the doorbell ring. She couldn't hear what happened after that, but, a minute and a nanosecond later, Lavender's mom entered her room and told her, "Parvati has stopped by for a visit and would like to meet you here in your room."
"Bring her in here, " said Lavender eagerly.
So, Lavender's mom left her room and returned a minute and a nanosecond later with Parvati, who was carrying something, though it was impossible to know what because Parvati had draped a lavender colored cloth over it. Lavender's mom left again so it was just Parvati and Lavender in the room.
Slowly approaching Lavender, Parvati said warmly, "It's good to see you, Lavender."
"It's wonderful to see you, Parvati, " said Lavender glowingly, smiling at her BFF.
"It's always a pleasure to see you, " Lavender, " smiled Parvati.
"Is there anything I owe this pleasure to?" Lavender asked Parvati.
"Look, Lavender, I know it was a hard year for you last year with the loss of Binky, " said Parvati sadly.
"He was so young too, " said Lavender ruefully, "I_"
Lavender's voice got stuck in her throat and she could not say any more on the subject.
"There's no denying the sadness of Binky's early demise, " said Parvati slowly, "But I thought you might like a new rabbit."
Lavender's heart leapt. Was Parvati saying what she thought Parvati was saying? Was a new pet rabbit for Lavender hiding under that lavender cloth?
Parvati slowly and carefully lifted the lavender cloth off what she was carrying to reveal a cage containing a beautiful young pure white rabbit.
"OOH!" cooed Lavender when she saw the rabbit, "Is he really for me?"
"Yes, " said Parvati sincerely, " I know how much you loved Binky and I saw up close how much the loss of Binky hurt you. Since I couldn't give you Binky back, I figured the next best thing was to get you a new pet rabbit."
Parvati put the cage with the new rabbit in it down on Lavender's desk and declared fiercely, "He's all yours!"
As the moment sunk in on her, Lavender began to weep.
Lavender was overcome with emotion, both at getting a new pet rabbit and at realizing how much her BFF truly cared for her.
As tears of emotion streamed down every inch of Lavender's face, she walked up to Parvati and engulfed her into a very tight hug.
How long they held the embrace, neither of them would ever know.
Both of them just naturally felt the emotion of the moment.
Parvati knew how much the loss of Binky had affected Lavender and she couldn't express how much it meant to her to able to give a Lavender a new rabbit.
Lavender, meanwhile, was very touched not only by Parvati gifting her a new rabbit, but the thought she had put into it.
Parvati knew that Lavender loved white animals. Parvati had seen Lavender coo at Harry Potter's owl at Hogwarts and also knew she loved adult unicorns and albino cats.
Exactly how much thought Parvati had actually put into this started to sink in on Lavender.
"Parvati you, you, " said Lavender emotionally, "You know I love white animals, you knew there was a hole in my life without a pet rabbit, you must've been planning this for a while."
"Not that long, " admitted Parvati humbly, "I started to think when I arrived home for the summer about ways to lift your spirits. I came to the conclusion the most meaningful thing I could do for you was get you a new pet rabbit."
"Not just any pet rabbit, " said Lavender appreciatively, "You specifically chose a pure white rabbit because you know I love white animals and the lavender cloth was a nice little touch."
"How about you take a proper look at him?" suggested Parvati.
Parvati and Lavender broke apart and Lavender paced towards her desk with her insides radiating.
"Oh, he's so beautiful, " cooed Lavender as she got a proper look at her new rabbit.
Lavender watched the rabbit for a few minutes with a feeling as though an electric current was flowing through her.
"He's wonderful. He's beautiful. He's perfect for me." declared Lavender contently.
"I'm glad you like him," said Parvati brightly.
"I don't like him, I ADORE him, " exclaimed Lavender.
Parvati's and Lavender's faces both lit up.
Turning to Parvati, Lavender said in a very genuine voice, "Thank you, very much, Parvati, I_I am lucky to have you as a bestie."
Then, turning to her new rabbit, Lavender said, "Hello, Whitey!"
"Whitey is a great name choice, " said Parvati happily, "Lavender, I'm going to leave now and let you enjoy some time with your new companion."
Parvati got up and left while Lavender gave her a final, "Thanks."
When Parvati was gone, Lavender turned to Whitey.
"Whitey, " beamed Lavender, "You and I are going to be together for a long time to come!"
