On March 21st, 2022, I posted chapter 35 about how the roommate concept should be jettisoned and how students should have their own rooms. Chapter 35 also covered how magical recognition would ensure that only a student himself or herself could enter his or her room under this new concept. In the chapter 35 reviews, the user magitech suggested using magical recognition instead of riddles as a way to enter Ravenclaw Tower. I've done that here and this piece should be considered part 2 of chapter 35.

Meanwhile, on the inside of that same day's Daily Prophet, there was another article which bore the headline:

Riddles and passwords being replaced by magical recognition to access common rooms at Hogwarts:

In addition to the roommate concept being jettisoned at Hogwarts, Headmistress Minerva McGonagall also informed the Daily Prophet of a change in the way Hogwarts students will access their common rooms starting with the beginning of the fall 1998 semester on September 1st.

"After this year's sorting ceremony," explained McGonagall, "Each of the heads of house will take his or her students to the entrance to their common room and place spells on the entrances that will allow the entrances to recognize the unique magical signature of each student. The heads of house will then magically program the entrances to only allow a person entry if that person's unique magical signature matches one of the unique magical signatures in its database. If the entrance does not recognize the person's unique magical signature, he or she will not be able to enter that house's living quarters. In future years, new students shall be added to the databases at the conclusion of each sorting ceremony."

Asked why the change was being made, McGonagall gave a multipart answer.

"One reason is student comfort," McGonagall told Daily Prophet reporter Isiah Inquire, "In the past, some students have suffered embarrassment and long wait times to gain entry into their common rooms. Some Ravenclaws proved not to be good at riddles. Poor Su Li had the misfortune of having herself locked out of Ravenclaw Tower multiple times because riddles just aren't her thing. Sometimes some of her fellow Ravenclaws, such as Luna Lovegood and Padma Pail, would help her get into Ravenclaw Tower by answering the riddles themselves and would assure her she had nothing to be ashamed of. She was still an excellent student who just happened to not be very good at riddle solving. Others, such as Cho Chang would mock and make fun of her. And then there were just too many times when she had super long waits because of the timing of things. As for the Gryffindors, Slytherins, and Hufflepuffs, some students, especially younger ones, who don't have great memories would also suffer long wait times and humiliation as they had to wait for someone else to let them in. The new system of magical recognition will both eliminate the long wait times and relive the humiliation suffered by students who weren't gifted at riddle solving or password remembering. Another very important reason is security. The reality of the matter is that neither the password concept nor the riddle concept guarantees people who don't belong can't enter. If a Gryffindor, Slytherin, or Hufflepuff was very good at riddles, he or she could in fact access Ravenclaw Tower under the riddles method. As for passwords, well, people can very well guess them correctly even if they don't know them. The password concept in no way ensures that people who don't belong are kept out. Under the new system of magical recognition, the ONLY way to enter the house living quarters is for the house's entrance to recognize one's unique magical signature. Heads of house will be permitted into their own house's living quarter's but teachers in general will not. The magical signature recognition method will also apply to the staff room and staff living quarters as well. "

This is another in a series of chnages being implemented at Hogwarts as improvemnets to the school are sought in the aftermath of the Battle of Hogwarts.
