Justice and her future husband was renting a small but cozy place in the City of Gotham. The neighborhood was quiet and safe. Sometimes Justice thought that she didn't deserve it all and after long and usually horrible day of work she was happy to be safe in a cozy place far away from all nasty and ugly truth of the city. She and Christopher worked hard every day and sometimes over time but they loved what they were doing. They worked in different departments but occasionally saw each other in halls of the building or on a scene.
They took six month to prepare for the wedding and got a little vacation in the middle of this period. They flew to Hawaii and spent there ten days, good memories and pictures were around their apartment as souvenirs. After this brake time flew by and there was it the month of the wedding. October, it was Justice's choice, because it was her favorite month and the weather was about to be good on that day. She thought about her dress a lot, Christopher told her to pick whatever she wanted he didn't mind. He himself choose simple black suit with a vest under a blazer and white shirt with a bowtie.
Justice was indecisive; she didn't know what she wanted. First she thought about a classic dress but she had never wanted a classic dress for the wedding since her childhood. Then she thought about different colors but made a decision it should be a white dress. Finally, she made her mind and sewed her own dress. It was a short dress with a corset and a fluffy skirt, a very short fluffy skirt. She made a cape too. A heavy white velvet cape with a big hood, instead of a bridal veil. She bought white chunky over the knee boots. Their wedding was about to be very simple and quiet with a few relatives from the husband's side and nobody from Justice's. She thought to invite James Gordon but decided it would be awful for him to be alone there. So she invited nobody.
The wedding day was sunny in the morning but the sky became gray in the afternoon. That wasn't on the forecast and the pouring rain wasn't there as well but there it was. Heavy rain started right when Justice came to a little church on the corner not far from their apartment. Her future husband was already there. He was waiting at the altar. Justice walked alone the short hall between benches and stood next to Christopher. He was smiling. He was happy. She was more than happy. Justice lived her best life at that moment.
The priest began an oath, the rain was smashing on the top of the roof, inside of the church was warm and calm. And just like that when they were about to exchange the rings the doors opened unexpectedly loud. James Gordon was walking to the altar fast and ambitious.
I am sorry Justice. – said Gordon and turned to Christopher.
Christopher Swan you are under arrest for cooperating with criminal subjects in the case of illegal prostitution of immigrants. You have a right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have a right to an attorney. If you can't afford an attorney, one will be provided to you.
Several police officers came close to Christopher and one of them put handcuffs on him and two others pushed him down the hall. Christopher didn't say a word maybe because he was smart criminal or maybe because he realized it was over for him. He glanced on Justice once and once on his mother but his eyes were cold and angry. He didn't smile anymore he wasn't Christopher they all knew.
His mother screamed and fell on her husband's chest, some relatives surrounded the couple talking and crying. Outside of the church five police cars were flashing their lights in the rain. Christopher was put inside the car. Capitan James Gordon turned around, stood under the rain looking at Justice for a moment and then left.
She was there alone in the darkness. Darkness surrounded Justice she got lost in pain and old memories. She felt the same inner pain as she felt that dark night when she was raped in the shadow of the park. She couldn't see but she saw how they walked away Christopher. She couldn't speak but she said "Why?" to nobody in particular but herself.
The question stuck in her head and run on the repeat "Why? Why? Why?..." . Police cars began to leave the church yard. The priest tried to talk to Justice but she was staring outside in the rain through the open door. And then she run ….
