This night the White Shadow noticed a pickup truck peacefully driving on an empty street towards a bridge to a Main Land. But the tarp what was covering insides of the car's back was flapping and uncovered the truth. There were chemicals again. Justice noticed the truck from two story building and immediately recognized chemicals. The same as she stole from a gang who was trying to sell them to somebody on the Main Land and the same chemicals she saw under the unfinished bridge when there was a shooting between two gangs or who ever they were. Justice followed the car as far as she could with her small binoculars and remembered the license plate. Somebody on the Main Land was still buying those chemicals.
As soon as she made a decision to go down from the roof she heard it… wings flap. The roof was flat and dark. Wind hit the White Shadow in her face under the cape and when she opened her eyes she saw Batman. Right in front of her so close that he easily could push her from the roof with his pinky finger.
-You broke our agreement. - he said deeply and quiet.
-You broke it. - Justice was calm she played this conversation million times in her head. - I was waiting after I helped you with those notes. I've been waiting for almost a month that you one day give me some protective gear as we've spoke before. But..
-What did you expected? - he stared at Justice angrily.
-Anything… but I'm fine now. Good luck with your investigation. - she tried to walked around Batman but his presents was too great to just walk away from.
-Did you know you friend Evan was in Arkham for almost five years?
-What? - Justice stopped but didn't turned to Batman. - No. I didn't know that and the matter of fact I don't care. He is your problem not mine.
-He is a threat to Gotham City and you are part of Gotham the same as Zones. - Batman didn't turn to Justice ether and said these words to the City what was seen from the roof over the bridge.
Justice turned around, came to the edge of the building and stood next to Batman. She saw lights of the Main Land over the river she heard sound of cars and sirens coming from the far. City was a living thing but then she looked around and the Zone number three was mostly dark, no cars, no people.
-I don't think that Main Land considers Zones parts of the City. Look around you Batman it's all dark and abandoned it's living in fear and no future. People trapped here because they speak with an accent and have different cultures then people on the Main Land… but they are still people. I'm sure you don't need my help to catch Evan after you put all those notes together.
Justice turned around and disappeared in the darkness of the roof.
-I built your gear. - said Batman turning but the roof was empty.
Justice wanted to get away from the roof as fast as she could unseen. She climbed down the fire escape stairs and run making every turn right deep into the Zone. She didn't hear the last words of Batman. The night was going to its end and her plan was to check on that chemical plant. The White Shadow was running fast but not faster then Batmobile.
The big black car cut her off right next to an abandoned building. The huge reems and quiet engine made car's appearance mystical and tragic as death.
-Sit. - he told her through the cracked down window.
-Look… I need to check something. I don't have time.
-Whatever you need to check is going to be checked faster on the car.
-Makes sense. - thinking couple more seconds Justice set I the car. What a difference, she thought, she would live in this car because it was so comfortable.
-What do you need to do? - Batman asked not looking at Justice.
-I need to go next to a chemical plant it's in south end of our Zone.
Batman gave a command to a car's computer to find a chemical plant and the car started its way to the destination.
-Don't you cold in this dress and cape? - he asked suddenly again without looking.
-No… If I move a lot I'm warm. Doesn't matter, the thing is somebody steeling chemicals from that plant and drives them to the Main Land.
-What? What chemicals? - Batman's eyes got focused on the road and hand squeezed the staring wheel.
-I don't know. That's what I'm about to check. They've been doing it for months now.
-For months…do you know how often?
-No but I fear the worse and maybe they do it couple times a week. Today I saw one car with those chemicals it's navy blue pickup truck old model and this is the license plate number. - she wrote it on her arm not to forget and now shown it to Batman.
And again he gave a command to the car to run this license plate number and the car pulled up on the screen some information.
-It belongs to Xavier Denali but the guy died four years ago in age of eighty four. It's registered here in the Zone, so they must have a pass to Main Land because it's impossible to get there from the Zone especially at night.
-Well there is something for you to think about. I just want to know if the plant works together with these guys or they don't even know that somebody steeling chemicals.
-They must know somebody inside the plant who helps them. Somebody who let them steel. - said Batman thoughtfully.
—Let's find out!
