They got next to the chemical plant in four minutes. Batman's car was fast and streets of the Zone were empty.
-So… where would you start? - he asked
-I think I would go around and see if there is any holes in a fence.
-I will check the front gate.
-The front gate? Do you really think that thieves can open and close gates whenever they pleased? - Justice was surprised.
-I think they know somebody from inside and that person helps them every time.
They agreed to meet back to the car in twenty minutes.
It took Justice longer than twenty minutes to go around the whole plant but she just wanted to make sure there was no holes.
-Anything? - asked Batman standing next to Batmobile.
-No holes in a fence. Also not to many cameras outside. You? - she was a little bit tired and even hot despite of the night being chilly.
-They left through the main gate, I checked. The gate was last time opened not so long ago and I traced tire marks supposedly belonged to a pickup truck.
-Oh… great job! If I had some of your gear I wouldn't walk around in bushes. But it's all good. What next.
-I need to show you something. - said Batman and got into the car.
-Ok. But I don't have much time until sunrise and I need to go to work. - said Justice hopping next to Batman. - What is it you want to show me?
The engine roared and a car started on moving. Batman didn't say anything he was driving focused on the road. Justice noticed that they were crossing the bridge to the Main Land and street lights became brighter.
-Main Land? Why? - she made an attempt to ask him again.
-Gear. You need one.
Justice thought it was a joke because it was their agreement to begin with but after she helped Batman with translation of notes he disappeared. Now words about gear sounded like torture for her ears. She didn't answer and kept staring through a car window on bright lights and dozens people walking in the streets of Gotham even at night.
-Don't they see a Batmobile? - asked Justice. She noticed people didn't even pay attention to the car she was in but she knew that this car was standing out from all cars in the city.
-No. - cold as steel answer. - They are too busy to live. - Batman never moved his eyes from the road.
-I guess… you are right on this one.
The rest of the way driver and his passenger was silent. At one point Batmobile got into the tunnel with bright lights and cars around but in a moment the car turned right in a tunnel branch and it's all went dark pitch black.
Batman had some sort of device on his eyes and was driving perfectly normal with no lights. All Justice could understand it when a car slowed down and eventually got parked on a small parking lot with one light above a simple door with prohibition sign on it.
"We going right in that door" - thought Justice getting out of the car.
-This way. Follow. - said Batman and walked toward that door. His steps were fast and powerful cape was flying behind his back as a night following sunset.
It was an elevator behind the door. There was special identification process to get in and start the elevator. They were moving up that what Justice felt. Doors opened in the laboratory.
-Wow! Is it … Oh! Wow! You are a serious guy I tell you what! - Justice couldn't stop expressing her amusement.
The laboratory was huge room with computers and tables. There were multiple Batsuits in glass cases, different parts, weapons, a photo laboratory, a bio laboratory, anything a police department could think off to improve their work place.
-You can do it all right here! Gosh! And you still can't catch Evan?! - Justice felt she crossed a line because Batman turned to her and stared right in her face. - I mean… he must be a real pain in an ass … he is smart, he always been smart so I'm not surprised. You know what I mean, yes?
Batman didn't answer he walked to a far right corner of the room and pulled some devices from his suit they automatically connected to a computer.
-This is tiers marks next to a chemical plant we saw today. - Batman pointed on a huge computer's screen. He did couple manipulations and a screen came out with a list of all movements a car did after leaving the chemical plant. - Look. That where you saw this car and then it went on a bridge to how you call it, Main Land.
-What is the final destination? - Justice tried to figure out the last section of the list.
-It despaired underground. That car went underground on 74th Street.
-What is on 74th Street?
Again manipulations, windows were popping in and out off the screen.
-There is… nothing. Residential buildings. No underground facilities or parking.
-Hold up. - Justice stopped a map on a screen with her fingers. - This. What is this building?
-School. A city map shows it is a school.
-Working school? - Justice looked at Batman his eyes were focused on a computer's screen. - I'm asking because I went to this school when I was in an orphanage. Peter T. Tompkins High School something like that. My graduation year was the last one for this school. City shut it down and promised a reconstruction. I just wonder if they reopened it.
Batman was giving voice instructions to a computer. Mechanical voice announced that Peter Tally Tompkins High School was closed for reconstruction which was a part of a renewal program financed by top city's Maecenas. It had never reopened because of the funds shortage and depopulation of this particular district of the Gotham City.
—I heard something about this renewal program when I was a child. You know Thomas Wayne himself visited our orphanage at some point. It was a big meeting tons of cameras and tv people all around our orphanage. They were there before the sunrise but as soon as all big rich guys left they disappeared immediately after.
Batman didn't answer but he did a deep sigh and his eyes slowly moved from a computer's screen to nothingness.
-The thing is. - Justice decided to break gloomy silence in the lab. - This school also a bombshell.
Batman woke up from his thoughts.
-A bombshell? - he said calmly. Couple seconds and in front of them was a screen with a school plan. Batman moved a plan to a bigger screen which was hanged on the wall and looked like a photo background the first time Justice saw it.
-Basement. - said Batman and computer pulled out a map of a school's basement.
—See. - she pointed on a map where a door was marked as a regular entrance. - See this door sign. It's not just a door it's a drive in like an underground parking garage sort of. I remember they were always bringing food to the school kitchen from that basement. A whole truck or two can fit under a school. I guess it's enough place for an old pickup.
Batman was silent he studied a map his eyes were tired. "He is a human. He is just a human." - thought Justice trying not to look at the man in a black cape.
-I want to show you something. - Batman moved toward the end of the laboratory. - This is a gear I promised. I took my time to … create but it's still not finished because I don't know your exact measurements. What I want you to do now is put this on and just walk in it in the lab. You can jump or run, sit, walk for an hour straight. Computer will adjust the measurements and differences in movements for me to perfect this gear. I will leave you in this lab and you do all instructions computer tells you.
Justice couldn't say a word. Before her own eyes in a glass case was standing breathtaking all white suit. A white cape with a spacious hood covers something under, something what was looking like a short dress the same she was wearing now and some sort of white material was covering legs and then in the end there were tall laced up platform boots.
-It's… it's… it's not a gear. It's a full body armor but looking like a princess bubble gum! I love it! - Justice turned to Batman but she was alone in the lab.
