Logan and his news crew was all day in the library's meeting room. The one thing they tried to figure out what happened to Ilham's brother. Logan lied to her how he learned about his death. He simply said that it was ordinary check up with a police department. The zone three had a small police station and one of the officers was a friend of Logan. That guy and Logan was having an every week phone call and if Logan learned something interesting he was doing a news report about it. He told Ilham precisely the same story, just a phone call with a police friend and the name of her brother came in the conversation and it how he learned about his death.
No, he didn't tell her about their last meeting. How he anonymously called the police standing on that garbage field and then run away. Logan called her almost the same minute when he got home last night around ten in the evening.
He went with her to the autopsy this morning and they both confirmed it was their brother. He considered Hussein his brother even they were not.
Now Logan was in the position to investigate everything what Hus told him about a chemical plant but he also promised to him that his sister wouldn't get involved. But she was the only camera operator they had and without her this investigation would be hard to work on. Anyway next couple days she was going to be out of this world. All the funeral stuff was on her as a closest relative. It would be a good time for Logan to look around and find some clues before the real investigation.
-Ilham, I need you to be strong but you don't have to sit with us on this meeting. I can take you home and you have some rest. - said Logan after an hour of discussion with his crew about this unpleasant situation with Hussein
-You know I won't… - said Ilham hiding her red eyes behind her hair. She was sitting with a lowered head and a handkerchief in her hands. - I don't want to be alone but I can't start working on the funeral because it's a weekend and all government buildings are closed. I need to collect all papers and I can't do it until Monday! - she was getting angry.
-Ok. Just … I understand. Do you want more tea or maybe food?
-No…
The rest of the crew was silent. The rain knocked in windows, wind was blowing leaves and garbage outside. Logan was staring at far away blurry shape of Main Land and all that part of the city was covered in green fog. It looked peaceful but dangerous.
-Cops said he drove to that garbage field and they found some signs of some sort of chemicals in an open back of his car. Do you think he was transporting anything dangerous? - asked Jimmy to nobody particular just looking outside of a window.
-He was always doing some shady works for anyone who paid him… so I'm not surprised. - answered Ellie sniffing.
-They will send it to the lab and results come in a week or so… but if we think about it. - said Logan. - Where in the zone he could possibly get chemicals. We all know there is only one place and it's our chemical plant.
-But we can't say it for sure… - argued Jimmy scratching his forehead.
-Well… actually we can. But even if it's so how does it help us? - asked Ellie
-We can… I don't know look around that plant and maybe we will find something… - Logan didn't want to say more of what he already knew.
Ilham only snorted and shook her head then she added.
-You know I'm going to go and wander in the library for a minute if you don't mind. - she stood up and left the meeting room.
Logan, Jimmy and two more guys had been left in silence.
-Do you really think that walking around that plant will give us anything? - asked Jimmy.
-I will check it my own way… so don't worry about it. Try to find out more from autopsy or our cop friend. - said Logan and stood up from a chair he was sitting all this time on.
-Now? - asked all three men in one voice.
-I don't know guys… I just need some air. You should have some rest too. - with these words Logan left.
Walking down to welcome desk he noticed Justice and gave her a nod she waived with her hand back to him. Suddenly he decided to stop next to her desk.
-What's up. - she said.
-Hey… ammm… my sister she is somewhere in the library… -he started.
-I know. I just saw her in a history section. She looks upset.
-Her brother died… got killed.
-Wow… - Justice whispered. - Do you want me to look after her here? Because who knows maybe she is about to do some … you know things to harm herself?
-I'm sure she will be fine. She is strong.
-Ok. Just saying… we had two suicides in this library but I wasn't working here that time. Maybe librarians just try to scare me. - Justice got back to her work with catalogs.
-Right. Scary stories about this library I heard when I was in school. By the way what school you were going to?
-The shut down one on the east side of the Zone.
-Me and Ellie too. She said she maybe remembered you.
-I don't remember her or much about that school anyway. -Justice didn't interrupt her work.
-Ok. See you then. - said Logan leaving.
-See you. - said Justice without looking at him.
… Logan set in his car for a while watching rain crying from the sky.
