Chapter 11 Research.
Carrie walks inside the school library. She walks down to the computers and sits down.
Carrie looks how the boy next to her,Freddy Holt, uses the computer. Carrie start searching the term: Magical Powers.
The crowd leans forward, curious to see what they would be shown next about Carrie and her powers.
Carrie too watches the screen with deep curiousity and slight fear.
The next scene shows Carrie taking books from the bookshelves.
She reads the books at a table. The title of one of the books is Telekinesis.
The teachers of Ewen High feel a flush of pride going through them. Their student has figured out what her powers were all on her own!
At the same time Miss Desjardin watches the screen and looks at her student as relief goes through her.
While the rest of the room is focused on the new discovery off Carrie's powers, she has some time to process things.
You can do it, Rita, you can do it.
You can guide her and protect her. No big deal, you have been taught during college how to deal with abused and bullied children.
They hadn't taught her how to deal with bullied and abused children with telekinetic powers though...
''No!'' Rita shakes her head. She can't panick now, no matter how much she wants to sit in a corner and have an old fashioned panick attack.
It would probably look weird if I start crying and laughing now.
Looking at her right she sees Carrie and Jessica watching the screen. Thankfully they don't seem to notice what is going on with their gymteacher.
Rita takes a deep breath and looks closer at the two girls. Carrie looks conflicted. She has a look of wonder while watching her future self. She is glad to see the girl at peace; even though she isn't. Not while some of the people in the room look with hunger at Carrie. No doubt thinking about ways to use Carrie for their own thought alone makes her so angry, Hasn't Carrie gone through enough already!?
You don't deserve her, not after how you all ingnored her...Disgusting. And now you all want to use her powers for your own selfish reasons.
Maybe she could get Carrie out of the building after this. She could just take the girl and drive off to her hometown or somewhere else. Far away from here. She had still some money in her bankaccount. It wasn't much but enough to keep them going for a while.
She is shaken out of her thoughts by Carrie.
Her student has taken her hand and is squeezing it. Beside her Miss Upshaw is doing the same. A warm feeling overtakes her.
Despite the two girls different character, Carrie and Jessica have strangelly hit it off. In between the movie she heard them whisper to each other talking about clothes. lt's nice knowing that Carrie has other people in her corner beside herself.
Does she though?
Morton and most of the staff, the Holt's, the Snell's and some others had also shown their support and williness to protect Carrie. And they did not look with hunger at Carrie, the way that she saw some of the others do. No, instead they looked at her with pity. Including Sue Snell. The girl had been very quite during during the scenes.
Rita shakes her head having a resolution.
She doesn't need to run off or do this alone. She will trust some of these people to have Carrie's best interest in now she will keep her cool. If things don't work out she can always dissapear with Carrie. For now Carrie's powers are just another thing to add to the growing list of things to deal with after this showing is done.
The scene changes as and shows Carrie once again behind a computer.
She watches a video of a girl moving paper without touching it.
''Is what we are seeing also telekinesis? Asks Lizzy Wilson.
Their aunt Romy and other adults wants to deny it, but remembering what they had seen earlier they kept quite. There was no saying now what was real and what was fake.
The boy who sat beside her earlier walks to her.
Freddy Holt: "Um, you know... Sorry".
"I was just going to say,
you can make it full-screen".
The crowd look at the boy in question.
Mrs and Mr Holt smile at their son, proud at his kindness. Some of the adults feel relief at the kindness of the young Holt boy.
At least some people treated Carrie good before this all started.
Freddy looks at the screen with a frown.
He feels slightly guilthy for not trying more to befriend Carrie before this. He hopes she would be willingly to give him another chance. He would really like to know her and not for her powers or any other notorious reason.
"Watch".
Freddy clicks with the mouse and the screen becomes bigger. The screen turns black. The next scene shows Carrie with her classmates in a classroom. Carrie is staring outside at a flag. The flag starts to move.
Rachel Spies looks at the screen and then starts laughing with some of her friends.
The rest of the crowd looks at the group who can't stop laughing. Some off them are rolling on the floor.
''What is wrong, why are you all laughing like that?'' Asks Mrs Martina as Rachel Spies speakes up.
''Because it all makes sense now!''Says Rachel Spies.
"This why everything around Carrie always falls apart!". She says to Mrs Martina. The room is quite.
''I think you are right''. Says Cindy Yang softly.
"I thought I was just clumsy!". Says Carrie with pink cheeks.
''Well congrats, you aren't!. Says Rachel Spies.
''And thankfully for us too!''.
The student body giggle, remembering all the times objects around Carrie had just fallen over or broken.
Mr Ullman: "All right, who's next"?"Uh, Carrie. Favorite poem".
Carrie turns away from the window.
"Did you bring one"?
Carrie: "Yeah".
Mr Ullman: "Why don't you come to
the front of the class
and share it with us all?
Carrie walks to the front of the class.
Mr Ullman looks at Tina who bites on her pen.
Principal Morton and the staff of Owen High feel uncomfortable seeing a student trying to flirt with her teacher.
Principal Morton notices that other people, including Tina's parents, look uncomfortable at the scene.
Carrie: "This unfrequented place
to find some ease".
"Ease to the body some, none to the mind".
"Times past,
and what once I was and what am now".
"O wherefore was my birth
from Heaven foretold".
"Twice by an Angel, who at last in sight".
"Of both my Parents all in flames...".
"...ascended."
"Well done, Mrs White! ". Says Mr Frogg
"I didn't know you were this good at reading poems".
Carrie turns red and looks away.
Mr Frogg notices this and decides to try another routine.
"If I'm right that poem is about Samson, right?"
Carrie shakes her head.
"I like reading about myths and English litarature". Says Carrie.
People hear it and decide to store away this information for later.
Mr Frogg laughs and slaps Mr Ullman friendly on the back.
"At least you have one student that likes your subject".
Mr Ullmann smiles awkwardly at his collegue.
Mr Ullman:"Okay, uh, that was, uh..."
Tina gives him a look.
"...disturbing".
The adults in the room glare at the teacher and student, quite disturbed by what they were seeing. Though most of the angry looks were being thrown to Mr Ullmann.
The principal and the teachers look at each other.
It wasn't explicate what they were seeing but it still crossed multiple lines.
While it wouldn't be the first time a student tried to flirt with a teacher to get favors, the fact that Edwin responded was quite disturbing.
Principal Morton turns to his English teacher but the man merely looks away, refusing to look him in the eyes.
Principal Morton feels his heart hardening.
Behavior like this would not be tolerated.
"I would like to see you in my office after the movie, Edwin". Says Principal Morton to an ashen Mr Ullman.
''Why it didn't mean anything, it was just harmless fun''. Says Tina Blake.
She receives dirty looks from all across the room. Including from a lot of students.
Her friends look conflicted. Chris Hargenson looks like she wants to say something, but one look from her father makes the girl go quite.
Before Tina can say more, her parents interverne.
From where Principal Morton is sitting he can't hear them, but he hopes they can get through to their daughter.
Tina smiles at Mr Ullman.
"How did that guy ever became a teacher?" Whispers Mrs Upshaw to Mrs Watson.
"I have no idea". Answers Mrs Watson back.
"That is the most
you've said in class all year".
Is there anything else
you'd like to share
or are you done scaring
us for the day"?
The adults and most of the students look angry.
"It's pathetic you bully a student to get some attention from another student". Says Vicky with a sneer.
She had never liked Mr Ullmann and had disagreed with what Tina called some harmless flirting. She was not afraid that this could cause her somme trouble with her friends. She knew that most of the Ultra's secretly agreed with her and thought Tina was going to far.
Agent Geraldine looks at the flushing faces of the student and teacher.
She ticks her partner on his shoulder.
"Look at that". She whispers.
"Do you think there could be more going on than "just flirting".
Her partners eyes turn cold.
"I don't know but we can take that guy to the police station to hear him out after this movie". He answers satisfying Agent Geraldine with his answer.
Tommy: "Asshole".
The students and some of the adults laugh.
"I didn't know you had it in you, Ross". Says George Downson.
Beside her boyfriend Sue Snell is quite.
How many times did she say nothing while Carrie was being bullied? Mind you, she and Carrie did not have a lot of classes together but still...
Guilt consumes her.
Mr Ullman:"Excuse me, Mr. Ross".
"Did you say something"?
Tommy: "I said, "Awesome."
"I just thought
what Carrie read was awesome".
"Didn't you, Mr. Ulman"?
Mr Ullman: "All right, who's next? Uh..."
"Nicki".
"I mean, Lizzy".
The scene turns black.
The screen now shows Mrs Snell in a shop.
Mrs Snell:"Is anyone working"?
The screen turns to Margareth who is trying to ignore Mrs Snell.
"Do we really have to watch that bitch again?". Whines Vicky Hanscome.
"Whoever send us her said we have to watch the ENTIRE movie, Vic". Answer the Thibodeau twins.
Vicky pouts, but continues watching the movie.
"Excuse me".
"Is anybody working"?
Margareth hurts herself accidently.
"That's karma bitch". Screams Malcom Palmer.
Margareth walks to the front of the store and greets Mrs Snell.
"Oh, Margaret".
"I'm sorry to disturb your.
"I don't know where Hugo and Gloria..."
Margareth:"Can I help you, Mrs. Snell"?
Mrs Snell: "Yes, I'm picking up".
Mrs Snell shows Margareth a card.
Margareth walks way to get the dress.
A few seconds later she comes back with the dress.
"Margaret, I want to say how sorry I am
about what happened at the school".
"There's no excuse for what Sue did,
but she's a good girl".
Sue Snell looks up at her mother.
Mom should not have to apologise to Margareth for something I did.
Carrie deserves an apology not from my mother but from me.
Margareth:"Are any of those girls good"?
"What does she mean with that?" Asks Mrs Snell.
Carrie looks at her and shakes her own head.
"Believe me you don't want to know, Mrs Snell".
Mrs Snell wants to ask more but is stopped by her husband.
She decides to let the matter rest.
For now at least.
Mrs Snell pulls up the dress and starts to inspect it.
Mrs Snell:"Oh, that is beautiful work, Margareth".
"Thank you".
Margareth starts to hurt herself.
"That woman was hurting herself while Mrs Snell was in the room!?" Thinks Elton Mott.
The other people in the room look slightly ill.
"I'm terribly sorry, Eleanor". Says Elton Mott.
"It's alright Elt, you are not to blame for Margareth's behavior and this hasn't happen yet". Answers Eleanor Snell back.
She is horrified by what she is seeing. She can't belief Margareth hates her so much she is willing to hurt herself in public.
"I love what you've done
with the neckline".
"And the stitches".
"You can barely see them".
Margareth's arms starts to bleed.
A lot of people in the room feel themselves getting sick or turn green.
Elton Mott looks at the scream with disdain and wonders if Margareth would do this in the future, does that mean she has cut herself in his shop before?
Maybe he could ask her daughter after this.
"So few people can sew like this anymore".
"I could never do anything
like this myself".
"Sue's going to look beautiful".
"I am so excited for her".
"I remember my prom".
"Anyway, she's going to love it".
Margareth:" These are Godless times, Mrs. Snell".
"Especially for you, because you're going to jail!" Says Lila Thibodea.
Her twin sister and parents looks surprised at her outburst, but then starts laughing.
The screen turns and the next scene begins.
And done! Reviews and feedback is much appreciated.
So should Rita pack her suitecase and flee with Carrie to Mexico? I will give you all a small hint from the epilogue I plan to write: once the viewing of the movie is done Carrie will leave Chamberlain Maine for a while. For the rest I'm afraid you all have to wait a bit longer, but I already have so many ideas I want to inplant.
So Sue is growing guilthy and an idea is forming, while Tina and Mr Ullmann are in for a lot of trouble. Just to be clear there is nothing going on between Tina and Mr Ullmann beside some flirting but the other people in the room don't know that.
To clearify things, most students know Mr Ullmann has a soft spot for Tina but they didn't notice that those two would flirt and those that know are still quite disturbed by the scene. I don't know if that is canon, but seeing as that issue has not been answered in the 2013 movie I decide to portray it this way.
I hope everything is clear.
Till next time!
