How Muggles See Witches and Wizards
"I'm so excited!" Ginny exclaimed, her eyes beaming with anticipation. "It's so nice to have a girl's day!"
"I know! Finally we get a break from working and making sure the boys don't get into trouble," Hermione jokingly agreed. After they graduated from school, both Hermione and Ginny were busy getting accustomed to their adult lives together. Hermione had been working at the Ministry and Ginny had a promising career as a professional Quidditch player for the Holyhead Harpies. Lately, Ginny had been curious about fun Muggle activities, so Hermione suggested some of her favorite things she loved to do growing up as a Muggle-born.
"So, you have never been to the theatre?" Hermione clarified.
"I have not. Or at least, not a Muggle one. What kind of play are we going to see?" Ginny wondered.
"It's one of my favorites. It's called The Wizard of Oz. It's based on a book, and it also has a movie too. The book was much better than the movie. Most things are." Hermione explained with a smile.
"So is the play better than the movie too?"
"There's something more beautiful about watching actors perform the musical live instead of watching a playback of an old film. I'm sure you are going to love it."
"I can't wait to see how Muggles think witches and wizards look!"
Hermione and Ginny arrived at the theatre and took their seats, which were very close to the stage. The story opened with a young girl named Dorothy protecting her dog Toto from being taken away from her. "If someone tried to take away my Puffskein, I wouldn't be too happy either." Ginny whispered. When the actress who played Dorothy began to sing, Ginny's eyes were transfixed on her. "What a lovely voice."
"Yes, she's really good." Hermione agreed. Hermione always thought that she and Dorothy had a lot in common. She and Dorothy both found themselves in new worlds where things they thought were impossible happened on a daily basis. And unlike the Wicked Witch of the West, most witches were kind and definitely did not have green skin. Well, unless they wanted their skin that color of course. The Wicked Witch's hat reminded Hermione of Professor McGonagall's hat, but she could never picture McGonagall being so vile towards a sweet young girl. Hermione enjoyed Ginny's commentary throughout the musical.
"I love the Scarecrow. He's very funny!"
"The Tin Man needs a bag with an extension charm so he can carry more oil cans," Hermione joined in on the commentary.
"No wonder Muggles don't like us, they must think we're all like the Wicked Witch!"
"I'm sure that's not true. Some might think we're like the Good Witch."
"So the Wizard of Oz is not a real wizard? He's a Muggle?"
"Yes. But he was still willing to help as much as he could," said Hermione.
"That's what really mattered." Ginny agreed.
After the musical was over, Ginny and Hermione enjoyed the rest of their girls' day. When they returned home, they managed to convince Harry and Ron to go with them to see The Wizard of Oz with them next time.
