The Legend of Zelda: A Human in Hyrule

Chapter 1

James rushed down the hallway with a stack of papers in hand. He reached a door on the left side and opened it with his pinky finger.

"Mr. Sturgeon, must I remind you not to be late to your job." A man said in a stern voice.

"Sorry Dr. Mitchell, I was still working on these documents." James said.

It was obvious he had pulled an all-nighter. The dark crescents under his eyes were easily visible to everyone in the room. James had been working at this research institute for four years now. He still had never been promoted or had been given any credit for what he did. He was invisible to everyone. His coworkers, his friends, even his parents. It seemed no one wanted him or needed him. His life was one that nobody could withstand. However, James always walked forward with joy in his heart. He believed that life has a deep purpose, and he was going to live for that.

"Mr. Sturgeon, give me those documents, they are due before lunch." Dr. Mitchell ordered.

"Yes sir." He said as he handed them to his superior. As he settled in for another day of work, he was called to the department head's office.

"You wanted to see me sir?" He asked as he stood in front of Mr. Doisle.

"Yes, Sturgeon. You are fired, you will be given your monthly pay, but you will not work here any longer." He said.

"May I ask why sir?" James asked.

"Simple, you didn't work enough." Doisle said.

"Well that's not true." James thought.

"Do you understand Mr. Sturgeon?" He asked.

"Yes sir." James said as he walked out to gather his equipment.

When he had finished packing, he headed for the door and exited the room. While he was walking to the exit he remembered his favorite games, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. They were a great series of games and he had been replaying them recently. "When I get home, I'll finish off Ganondorf for the last time." He said with a smile. Despite losing his job, he was still quite happy.

"Aaahh." James sighed as he placed his head on the table in front of him.

"I finally beat him after two hours. Gosh, the second phase is the hardest part for me. Especially without any equipment for combating the gloom" He said as he began to feel sleep overwhelming his eyelids.

"Well, at least now I can get some…sleep," James said as he drifted into the warm embrace of sleep.

Then, there was a faint heartbeat. He then heard a distant, distorted voice. "Change the cruel fate of Hyrule." And then all was quiet.

James began to open his eyes to find the sun blinding him.

"I don't remember sleeping outside." He said as he began to sit up.

He then realized he was in a field of grass. Decently tall grass too.

"Where am I?!" He asked with panic starting to overwhelm him.

"What happened!?" He shouted.

"Wait, calm down, panic drowns thought, James. Now let's get a good view of my surroundings." James walked up a hill and found himself staring at a familiar sight. Hyrule Castle.

"How is this even possible?!" James asked as he tried to process that he'd been transported to TLoZ.

"The Castle is intact and the city is still standing. This means that Calamity Ganon hasn't resurrected yet." He thought.

"But does that mean I can change the fate of Breath of the Wild?" He asked aloud.

"Oh yeah!" He yelled as he punched his fist into the air.

"Step aside medieval world, I bring real technology." James said as he took out his phone.

"Sure you have Sheika tech, but that is only the beginning of what is possible. Let's save everyone!" James yelled.

"Now, where to go first?" He asked himself. James looked into the distance and thought about his options.

"I have Gerudo Desert to the Southwest. Herba to the Northwest. I have Death Mountain to the Northeast. Zora Domain to the East and finally Hyrule Castle in central Hyrule." James pondered.

"Hmm, I think I'll go to central Hyrule to get my hands on some Sheika tech." James thought. He took inventory of all he had. A backpack with his laptop and some designs for high tech weaponry.

"Oh crap, I forgot I had these." James said as he looked over them.

"I probably still have all the other classified designs on my laptop." He said.

He continued to look through his stuff. Two full water bottles, an adrenaline syringe with extra adrenaline cartridges (These were used for shifts where he didn't sleep for six days), a knife, three lithium batteries and a M17 sidearm for self defense with 2 mags and 4 mags worth of ammo (he has 16 round double stack mags.) He checked his pockets, he had his phone, wallet, a pocket knife and his ID from his work. Plus all his keys.

"Well, I seem pretty well prepared to continue. Now, time to get a move on!" James said with a pump of his fist.

Link followed Princess Zelda through a gateway that led to a field filled with guardians and other various types of Sheika tech.

"I do hope our research can stop the Calamity." Zelda said as she walked to Purah who was holding the Sheika Slate.

"Purah, have you found anything?" Zelda asked.

As she did this Link looked around observing the surrounding area. Something felt…off. Like someone was taking something. Unknown to him, James had sneaked in and 'borrowed' multiple pieces of Sheika technology for his own plan. He also had taken some Sheika 'software' to upload into his phone.

"This could work." He said.

As he walked with the two boxes in hand he saw the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Urbosa, Champion of the Gerudo. She was way taller than he thought she'd be. Or he was shorter than he thought he was. She walked right up to him and asked.

"Hey, have you seen the Princess?" She asked. (Note: James is disguised as a Sheika researcher.)

"I believe she is speaking with Purah, Lady Urbosa." James replied with respect in his voice.

"Where exactly?" She asked. James manages to keep the boxes half balanced on his right leg as he pointed behind himself.

"Back past the first gate, it's where all the guardians are being tested." He responded quickly.

"Thank you, by the way, where might you be taking those?" Urbosa asked as she pointed to the boxes.

"The Ancient Tech Lab ma'am. Robbie has an experiment he wants these for." James said.

"Alright then, watch out for Yiga." Urbosa warned.

"Yes ma'am." He replied.

"What an odd voe." The Champion said as she walked off to see her little bird.

"Wow, that was close. And I met one of the Champions in person! Gosh I'm so happy right now." James shouted with excitement.

"Okay, I don't have an exact date as to when Ganon attacked. So, I need to start preparing right now." He said as he started using his laptop to hack into the Shekia Tower network.

"So these Shekia towers work like satellites and can provide an information network as well as data transfer to another destination. My plan can work." James looked up with a grin as he took out some of the advanced gun prototype blueprints.

"With the technology back home, this would have been impossible, but with this tech. It might just work." He said. James began to build a railgun out of a guardian laser and multiple pieces of Shekia technology.

"I wonder if I actually will be able to make a railgun." James said.

"Well, that'll have to wait. I need to rig the divine beasts and the castle to protect the Champions and the king when the time comes." He said with a hand to his chin.

"All I need to do is make some cryostasis time stop devices. With Sheika tech, that shouldn't be too difficult." James said with a grin.

"Alright, which divine beast should I visit first?" He thought.

"I could go to Gerudo and start with Vah Naboris. However, I think starting with Vah Rudania would be best. Visiting the one in the most hazardous area would probably be a good idea." James said aloud.

James finished making his first device. "I think the best idea would be to place the first one in Hyrule Castle while I'm in the area." James stated.

James had successfully snuck into the castle with his Cryotime device. He had not so cleverly named the device after the two things that they do. In all honesty, James was bad with names. So he just went with the most logical designation.

"Hmm, I wonder where I should put this. Hmm, maybe the kings study? No, that won't work. Ah I know, behind the throne!" James exclaimed.

James was disguised as a researcher again and snuck into the throne room with the device on hand. He tiptoed up to the throne and pushed the statue back. He placed the device inside the compartment and linked it to the power source underground.

"There we go." He said as he pushed the statue back. As he did this, he heard voices in the hall.

"We must sabotage this operation in the name of Lord Ganon." He heard.

"Oh…Yiga Clan." James thought as he hid behind the throne.

"What is the plan?" Another voice asked.

"Sabotage the Guardians. Make them explode." The other said. James heard them leave.

"Well this is bad." He thought.

"I have to warn King Rhoam." James said as he sprinted to the King's Study.

"Your Highness!" James yelled as he got to the King's Study. King Rhoam looked up with tired eyes.

"Yes? What matter is it that requires you to shout this late in the night?" The King asked.

"Well…I was in the throne room searching for you when I heard other voices. They spoke of sabotaging the Guardians. And only a few people we know would do that." James said with a calm tone.

"Yiga Clan? In the castle? That is absurd." The King said.

"Well Your Highness, the Yiga Clan are masters of disguise and can get in anywhere. We Shekia know that better than anyone." James said. King Rhoam rose from his seat and walked towards him.

"You are no Sheika. If I wasn't wise, I'd think you were a Yiga. But my age has given me enough discernment to know you mean no harm." The King said.

"I will mobilize the Guard in secrecy. Tell me if you know where they will strike." King Rhoam asked. "I'm afraid I do not. But I have a strong feeling they will strike the Ancient Tech Lab" James said.

"Then that is where we will strike." The King said as he walked away. He stopped.

"I do not know who you are. But I believe your feeling is correct." The King said as he glanced back. He then continued on his way.

"That should keep him occupied until I am finished going to Death Mountain." James thought.

"Well off to my next destination." James said as he left the Castle

It has been four days since the incident at the castle. Apparently King Rhoam had stopped the Yiga Clan from sabotaging the Guardians. He had asked everyone to keep a look out for a strange Sheika man that had warned about the attack. Because of this, James had switched to being a soldier. He had just made it to the top of Death Mountain and saw Vah Rudania on the side of the volcano. It was stationary which meant that Daruk was absent. So, James went inside and installed the device. When he got out he decided where he would go next. He went to Zora Domain to prepare the next Divine Beast. When James got to Zora Domain, he saw Mipha and Link sitting on top of the trunk of Vah Ruta. James got inside and installed the next device.

"Huh, I almost forgot Mipha loves Link. Cute, but I am a Zelink fan myself." James said as he came back out and smirked at the two.

He left and traveled to the Gerudo region. This was particularly tough as to the fact that he had to travel through a canyon that was scorching hot in the day and freezing cold in the night. However, being a former U.S. Marine. James knew how to survive in these conditions. As James exited the canyon, he rented a sand seal. Because somehow, he had scraped together enough rupees to do so. As James rode to Vah Naboris, it became night and he found a way to get on to the Divine Beast. When he got there he noticed Urbosa talking to Link. He also noticed Zelda leaning on Urbosa's shoulder.

"Hmm, so cute to look at. But I have a job to do." James said.

He quickly installed the device and was about to leave when he heard a lightning strike. He then heard Urbosa laughing as Zelda was confused.

"What's so funny?" She asked as James attempted to leave. Urbosa then got up and told Link to take Zelda inside Vah Naboris. As Link did this James was almost ready to leave when he heard a voice.

"Hmm, I knew someone was here. Tell me right now, why did the Yiga Clan send you here?" Urbosa asked with a firm tone.

James turned around and saw a frown on the Gerudo Champion's face.

"I don't know what you mean." James said with a calm voice. Inside, James was freaking out. Even if he was an ex marine, he was not ready to take on Urbosa's Fury.

"I'm sure you do. Your mission was probably to hurt the princess, but you noticed that there were two Champions, not one." She said with a glare.

"I think you are misunderstanding." James said with a calm expression.

"I haven't misunderstood anything, you're a Sheika traitor who is here to harm my little bird!" Urbosa shouted.

"Please don't yell, I'd like to talk this out like normal people do." James said, his voice still calm. Link then ran out as he looked at James. He unsheathed the Master Sword as he watched James with caution.

"Is that the freaking Master Sword?" James said with awe. This wasn't something Urbosa expected to hear. James then proceeded to say.

"Urbosa, I want to explain one thing to you, I am not here to harm, I am here to help, I fixed a bug in your Divine Beast's system." James said.

"A…bug?" Urbosa asked with a hint of confusion in her tone.

"Yes, it's something that can cause trouble in the future, now please, don't you remember my voice?" James asked.

"Wait, you were that Sheika researcher. Wait, then why are you wearing armor?" She asked.

"Um…for safety?" James asked himself aloud. Something didn't add up to Urbosa. However, when she was thinking, James spoke.

"Sorry Lady Urbosa, I need to fix a similar bug in Vah Medoh's system, see ya later!" Urbosa looked up with wide eyes as James jumped off.

James landed on the ground and rolled to the side as he walked away (Note: he had made a parachute beforehand). Urbosa looked at him and a small smile formed on her face.

"What an interesting voe." She said as Link sheathed the Master Sword.

James had finally finished installing the last device in Vah Medoh and he jumped off of the flying Divine Beast. As much as he hated Revali, he had to admit that he was a good warrior that was useful. After a while James made it to the cave he had made into a base. He now began to make one last device, and an arsenal of weapons. Around three weeks had passed and Calamity Ganon struck.

When this happened, the world went dark. And the devices that had been installed in the castle and the Divine Beasts activated. When they activated, they froze the Champions and the King in a state of time. They could not move or attack, but they could not be harmed or killed. It was a rather strange way to save the Champions, but it would work. However, it all depended on Link. And James, who had frozen himself in time for a set amount of time, would be Link's guide when he awakened.
