ANyways, hope y'all enjoy!
Cole stood in front of the mirror, eying his three-piece suit with a deflated expression. He was going to get married.
While one would be ecstatic about the idea of getting married, Cole was not.
The reason was because he wasn't marrying the girl of his dreams. He was marrying Nya. Don't get him wrong, Nya was an exceptional girl. But she wasn't Seliel.
"Cole, are you ready?" his father called from outside his room door. "Your friend is here to give her congrats!
"Yeah, I'm ready," Cole lied, opening the door and stepping outside. His father blinked at him, a wide smile on his face. "Oh, Cole!" he said, wiping away happy tears. "You've grown up so fast! FSM, you look just like I did when I married Lilly! Your mother would have been so proud!"
"Yeah, Dad," Cole said, uncomfortably rubbing his arm. "You've said that multiple times to me,"
"Well, it's true! Now come along! We got a wedding to start!" his father said, with a smile, looking at him with pride. Cole looked away, dropping his gaze to the ground, following his father out of the house.
The moment he stepped outside, almost everyone started crowding him, giving their regards and wishes, asking questions, and congratulating him, their voices all overlapping.
"Woah, woah! Y'all give him some space," a feminine voice called, cutting through the ruckus. Cole snapped up. He recognized that voice.
The crowd parted slightly as a girl pushed her way to where he was standing. Cole felt his cheeks heat up as he took in her appearance.
She didn't notice his staring but instead glared at the crowd. "Really?! He's gonna get married, y'all. He's nervous enough. Y'all aren't helping with his nerves. Shoo! Go away!" The crowd grumbled and dispersed.
The girl then whirled around and tackled Cole in a hug. "Oh FSM! Cole, you're getting married! I'm so happy for you!"
Out of pure instinct, he wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her closer, and relishing her flowery perfume. "Hey, Sel," he replied back. She pulled away, beaming up at him.
Now that she was close Cole could see her attire and wow- she looked gorgeous. Her hair, which was usually down and wild, was neatly tamed into a bun, bangs neatly framing her face.
She wore a sleeveless dress which was somehow clinging on her body by straps that were on her arms. Her lips were glossy and red, and her freckles crinkled as she smiled up at him. Her blue eyes are bright and alert, as usual.
Cole's eyes gazed down her neck and onto her bare arms. Seliel never wore anything that exposed much, sticking to full-sleeved articles of clothing. Seeing her arms bare and skin exposed, sent nervous shivers down Cole's spine. FSM, she looked gorgeous.
"What are you staring at?" she asked playfully, leaning close to him. Cole sputtered, unable to reply, embarrassed that he had been caught staring. "Umm... uhhh... I was, uh, just...erm..."
Selile leaned close, narrowing her eyes suspiciously. But then pulled away and burst out laughing. "Oh FSM! Cole! You should see your face right now!" she said, between laughs. Cole let out a relieved sigh, grateful that she hadn't picked up on his crush on her.
"If you weren't getting married to Nya today, I would have had some fun with that," she said after she got her laughter under control.
"Oh, right," Cole replied, his mood deflating as he remembered the reason he was heading to the church in the first place.
Selile's smile faded as she took in his expression. "Cole... what's wrong?"
"What's wrong? Pfft. Nothing's wrong! Everything's fine... just fine."
"Cole," she repeated again, her blue eyes boring into him. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing's wrong, Sel. I'm fine. Everything's fine. Anyways, we gotta go. Don't wanna be late to my own wedding, right? I mean, everything is fine. Dad is happy. Wu is happy. Nya is happy. I'm... happy. Everyone is happy because everything is fine."
Selile took in a sharp breath. "You... you don't want to marry her... do you, Cole?"
Cole's eyes widened. "Pftttt. Sel. Are you hearing yourself right now? What are you even talking about?"
"Y-you don't like her..." she continued on slowly, completely ignoring everything he had just said.
"What do you mean? I like Nya! She's amazing, nice, and friendly! And she's-"
"Cole," Seilie interrupted. Cole paused at her tone and looked back at her. She took a deep breath and looked up at him, her face serious. "Tell me the truth... Do you really want to marry Nya?"
Cole sighed and looked away. "It doesn't matter what I want. Dad wants me to marry her and so does Wu. And besides, the girl I like probably only sees me as a friend. I'm nothing more to her than that."
"Wait, timeout!" she looked up at him in shock. "You like someone? As in like like ?"
"Yeahhh?" Cole responded, not sure where the conversation was headed. "I'm pretty sure Nya likes someone as well-"
"WHAT?!"
"Woah, Sel. Calm down," He said, reaching out. She pulled away and stared at Cole with disgust and confusion. "Calm down? Cole! You both like someone else! And you both are getting married!
"It's fine, Sel. I'll fall in love with her eventually."
"Cole, are you even hearing yourself right now? You're gonna get married to her. You don't even like her! Marriage is not just saying hi every morning and living life. Especially with the fact that Wu wants you both to have like five kids! There's gonna be a lot of ... um... intimacy required in this marriage."
Cole sighed and looked away. "Sel, I know. But it'll be fine. Just five kids... it's no big deal, right? I mean-"
"Cole Belmonte Brookstone! Stop being a self-centered jerkweed! This choice that you're gonna make today, isn't just gonna affect you! Nya's gonna get affected as well! This choice that you're gonna make... it'll affect your life forever."
She sighed, regaining control of her emotions. "Listen, I know you want to please your father, but this is your life. This choice will affect your life, not your dad's." Seliel placed her hand on his cheek and turned his face so that he could look at her. "Cole, please... whatever choice you're gonna make... please make the right choice."
Cole let out a shaky breath. Alright. I'll... I'll try. Now if you excuse me, I have a wedding I have to attend."
With that he pulled away from her and walked towards the church, feeling her eyes on him. With a lot of struggle, Cole forced himself to not turn back and look at her.
💐.
Cole stood in the front of the church fiddling with the cuffs of his suit. This was it. This was the day his life would never be the same again.
He watched as Nya's family and friends sat down in the pews. His eyes searched for the curly-haired, freckled man. After a while, Jay finally walked inside. He wasn't wearing his usual ruana but instead was wearing a dark blue suit with a matching tie.
"Hey Jay!" Cole called. The blue-eyed man turned before walking towards him. "Hey, Cole," he greeted, void of any emotion. "You excited?"
Cole shrugged. "Scared, to be honest." Jay nodded. They stood there in silence. "Um.. congrats," he finally said. He then turned and started walking away to find himself a seat.
"Wait, Jay!" The said man turned around. Cole hesitated, "Um... thanks..."
He watched as Jay walked away, feeling his heart sadden a bit more. There was once a time when Jay and him were the best of the best friends. They used to play pranks together and spend almost every minute of the day side by side. They did everything together.
But their relationship changed when Jay had gotten his prophecy from Morro. Cole had found him crying, sobbing his eyes out afterwards. Jay had refused to tell him what the prophecy was regarding.
After Cole was betrothed to Nya, their relationship became nothing more than an occasional 'hello'. Now that Cole thought about it, he guessed that the prophecy was regarding Nya.
Cole sighed and turned away. It was too late to change the past. Now there was the future to look to. A future he didn't ask for, but a future regardless.
💐.
Cole watched as Nya slowly made her way down the aisle. She wore a pretty white dress, her hair down and adorned with flowers. She had a smile on her face, but he knew that it was forced.
She made her way up to the front. Cole stretched out a hand for her to take. Nya reached out and hesitated, a thousand emotions flashing across her face. But before he could blink, they were all gone, replaced by an emotionless mask. She then took his hand.
The priest started talking, droning on about something, but Cole couldn't concentrate, his mind everywhere.
What the heck was he doing?! Marrying Nya?! He liked Seliel! Not Nya!
He looked at the crowd, his eyes finding his father who was looking at him with pride. Cole looked away. He was doing the right thing. Sure it was bold and sure it felt wrong, but regardless, it was all for the family.
But Seliel's words echoed back to him. She was right. Whatever choice he was going to make, it was going to affect not only himself and Nya, but everyone. Including... Jay.
"Cole Brookstone, do you take Nya Smith to be your lawfully wed wife?"
Cole froze. How did it come to this part so fast?! His heart drummed in his ears, a steady grounding pattern.
"I... I-" Cole paused when he saw Nya's face. Her face was void of any emotions, but her eyes... her amber eyes that were usually full of life and mischief were filled with sadness. Her lips were pressed together in a thin line.
'If I say 'yes', he thought. 'Then I'm gonna kiss those lips. And... she's gonna kiss mine.'
Cole glanced up looking at the corner of his vision to see Jay. The said man was sitting in the pew, his hands tightened into fists. His electric blue eyes were glossy with tears. While one would have thought that the tears were one of happiness, Cole knew otherwise.
Jay was in love with Nya, and Nya... was in love with Jay.
The crowd shifted slightly, murmurs increasing as the seconds grew into minutes. Cole saw his father and Wu shift, starting to give concerned looks at him.
"Nya... I.." he tried again but then stopped as he saw Jay squeeze his eyes shut, tears seeping down his face. Cole watched as he silently excused himself, walking slowly to the exit. As Cole watched, his eyes suddenly locked with bright blue eyes, and it took him a while to realize that they were Seliel's eyes.
She wasn't sitting in a pew but instead was leaning against the wall, completely in Cole's view. When she realized that she had his attention, she narrowed her eyes and mouthed four words.
'Pick the right choice,'
Cole tore his eyes away from her enticing gaze and picked up Nya's hands, holding them tenderly in his hands.
The crowd held its breath, waiting for what came next. In the corner of his eyes, Cole saw Jaw freeze and turn to face them. Nya then slowly looked up at him, her eyes dead. Cole took a deep breath and gave his final answer.
"I do... not ."
A/N: dun...DUN...DUN! lol.
Anyways, that's all I have for now! Hope you enjoyed! Alsoooo... I made "Belmonte" Cole's middle name because it means "beautiful mountain"! I found out about that name in Ninjakitty1699's fic Hidden Among the Wind. I find the name "Belmonte" perfect for Cole!
