Note: For those who recognize this starting scene, this chapter takes place during Karry Universe's Kid Swap, the chapter 'The Youngest Force' - I hope you like this side of the story...
The End of Wonderland
It was early morning when Rae was surprised as Prime Barry and Karry Barry sent her a message that both worlds were having troubles with their Spirit Totem, and, after checking with Tantu, she confirmed their world was having the same problem too.
Now, Rae sat in Home Base with Leona on her lap to call the two on Karry Universe. Tantu had joined her too, but remaining quiet.
"Our Tantu confirms the same problems," Rae was saying, nodding to her Tantu, seeing the two smiling at Leona on the screen, the girl waving at her uncles on the screen.
"That means it's throughout the multiverse," Prime Barry mused. "Maybe we should get all the Spirit Totem bearers we know of together and…"
"We can run some tests on the Totems so to see if…" Karry Barry completed, and Rae could see the two were going to go full-on-nerd with her - but she had a simpler idea.
"Before you go into a complicated experiment, can I suggest a theory and maybe a simpler solution?" Rae interrupted the two. "I mean, I know I am not a scientist like you two, but this is magic and Seven Forces. Something I think I know a bit about."
"Go ahead, Rae," Karry Barry said.
"Remember when we were in the Speed Force with Lena and the Speed Force recharged Lena's Air Totem?" Rae continued; both Barrys nodded at this, both having been involved in this adventure. "It means the power inside a Totem itself is not infinite. There's probably a connection to the Force of the Universes who originally powered the original in all of them," Rae explained. "The power is getting weaker, messing up, not lasting as long – all signs of running out of power. My bet is, whatever is wrong with the Spirit Totems, will connect to whatever Force powers them."
"That's a good theory," Prime Barry mused, and Rae was happy he agreed with her. "But we can only go into the Speed Force."
"Not true," Rae smirked, surprising the two. They didn't know about her adventures. "I've been in three Forces now – not including the Speed Force."
"Three?" Both Barrys said together, seeming shocked.
"Well, I had to return the Totems to the Sphere of the Gods and Aunt Sphere was nice enough. She did give me a cryptic warning about a coming darkness, and seemed to like using metaphors," Rae said, remembering her trip into the Sphere of the Gods.
"Metaphors?" Karry Barry asked.
"She compared the multiverse to the videogame the Sims. She doesn't power a Totem though, because she created the gems for all of them," Rae explained and both Barrys nodded as she continued. "Then I went into the Dimensional Superstructure – or Uncle Rock as I have come to call him…."
"I got to ask," Prime Barry said. "Uncle Rock?"
"He loves the Rock. You know, Dwayne Johnson, the actor," Rae explained, and the two Barrys gave a laugh at this. "Took on the face of the actor and made everything look like it was from that movie the Jungle Cruise, but, besides an obsession, he was actually really nice. Definitely ranks as my favorite non-human uncles. But he powers the Death Totem," Rae remembered that because he told her that the reason why the Death Totem likes Amelia is because she aligned a bit to him.
"And the third?" Karry Barry asked.
"Uncle Emotional Spectrum, do not give him a nickname," Rae stated, but had to smirk since she did call him Uncle Grumpy herself. "He has some anger issues and hates me – and you..." both Barrys looked at each other. "Prime Barry, not Karry Barry. Doubt he cares about you," she nodded to Karry Barry at this.
"What did I do?" Prime Barry asked, seeming shocked at this comment.
"More like what we didn't do. Lantern Earth," Rae said, Prime Barry eyes went wide at this. "But that's an issue for another day and luckily, he powers the Fire Totem not the Spirit Totem. Although he's prouder of his other inventions, namely the Lantern Rings."
"Why am I starting to think all the Forces have some screws loose," Karry Barry said and Rae tried not to laugh at this. Silently she agreed with her alternate cousin/brother though. "Do you know which Force powers the Spirit Totem?"
"Sorry, got to be one of the other three. If I remember correctly that would be Faithfulness, Life, and Collective Unconsciousness but don't know which is which," Rae mused. "You could either run to the in between place and check all three or just go to our Speed Force mother. I am sure she will tell you who powers the Spirit Totem."
"Good idea," Prime Barry said.
"You're not going to join us?" Karry Barry asked at this.
"I've had my fair share of Forces to last a lifetime," Rae sighed, remembering visiting Uncle Grumpy too clearly. "Besides, it'll be funnier to watch you two deal with this one without me," she remarked. She really didn't want to volunteer at this time, and she did think it would be funny to send her cousins off to handle this.
"You can be a little mean sometimes," Prime Barry joked. Rae had to laugh at this.
"Oh, one other thing you should be aware of. Inside another Force is the only place the Speed Force power is not. When I went in, each Force had to allow a bit of the Speed Force in so I didn't die, but since you two are made-speedsters and not born so you should be alright," Rae said, thinking she should warn her cousins about this little fact. It was something that had surprised her, after all, inside the Sphere of the Gods.
"We got this," Prime Barry said.
"Oh, and Barry can you tell Chris we would like to spend some time with him before he has to go back to Metropolis for college?" Rae asked Karry Barry. Chris had gone off to Karry to go to Disney Titania and hadn't returned yet.
"Oh yeah, I'll tell Chris to go home," Karry Barry said with a laugh as Leona shouted 'bye' at them. Rae shut down the video call.
"You're really not going to go with them?" Tantu said. She had been lingering in the background, listening to the call. "You know the Forces better than them."
"And they've got to learn," Rae said. "Don't worry, they are the best. Two Paragons – well, two half-Paragons. The point remains, they've got this handled."
"Okay," Tantu stated, not sounding convinced.
Before Rae could reassure her more, she heard her communicator go off. "What's going on?" She answered the call.
"Rae, we need you in Gotham – now," Sara said through the communicator.
"On my way," Rae said, standing up and keeping Leona in her arms. "Look, Vixen, if the Totem is running out of power, conserving the power would be better until my cousins fix this. Go home and relax." At that, Rae opened a zap tunnel and ran out with her daughter.
-New Justice-
Running into the Batcave, Rae placed Leona with Helen and Kathleen.
"Aunt Rae!" Helen yelled out with a wave and Rae had to smile. When she'd had a free chance over the summer, she had been playing games with Helen to figure out more of her powers. They were weirdly cat-like, considering her mom's former name. Still, it had caused the two to bond some more and Leona loved playing with Helen and both being metas made it safer for them to play with each other.
"What's going on?" Rae asked the adults, noticing Sara, Tommy, Selina, and Alfred were there, but so was Caitlin.
"The hospitals in Gotham this morning have had an increase in people coming in," Sara said, and Rae shrugged, wondering why she was called in. "They've been poisoned."
"With the same poison that we cured Mary with," Caitlin added. "It's been diluted a lot, its why they aren't dying as fast, but we already have deaths coming and climbing."
"Okay," Rae said, understanding now.
"And it's spreading," Tommy said, pointing at the active screen in the Batcave. "All of Gotham is now out of commission and we have a theory..."
"The Crows have been getting weird deliveries in," Selina said. "Due to contact with an inside agent, Sophie, we managed to examine one. Caitlin confirms it could be ingredients for the poison."
"And the Crows have recently taken a very low paying job guarding water towers," Tommy added. "Beth and Kate have only put their new hires there – who we suspect are members of the Wonderland Gang."
"They poisoned the water supply," Rae said.
"I tested local water. It does appear to have the poison in it," Caitlin said.
"It's all circumstantial evident against them," Sara said.
"Wait, why is no one here sick?" Rae asked, realizing everyone was okay here, but everyone looked at each other.
"I can answer that one," Alfred spoke up. "Wayne Manor has its own water supply, disconnected from Gotham's."
"Bruce's paranoia scores again," Rae muttered.
"Actually, that was Bruce's father, Master Thomas, who did it," Alfred stated.
"I see where Bruce inherited his paranoia from. Helen, I am not sure if this is a good trait or not to get from daddy," Rae said quietly to the girl, who laughed.
"Want us to go get Alice and Mad Hatter?" Selina asked, ignoring the interaction between Rae and her daughter.
"No. Evidence will still not hold up in a court of law right now and besides, our main concern is damage control. Step 1, we have a cure for this poison. Wild Fire, how fast can we get it to people affected to stop as many deaths as possible?" Rae asked.
"Well, since discovering it the Amazonians have set up bases on the island and growing and harvesting the plant and bringing it to us," Caitlin mused, "I have some available but not enough for the entire city and we also got to test if mixing it into the water will clear the poison from the water. I'm going to need help and more space than Justice Hospital even has – especially since hospitals now in Gotham are out of commission because doctors and nurses there have fallen ill. Mary has her own little clinic, and she should be immune to the poison still."
"We're still going to need more room than that," Tommy said.
"What about the floating island?" Rae asked. "It still has a lot of beds available." Tommy gave a quick nod, so Rae took out her communicator. "Wonder Girl, Wonder Boy, we need as much of that plant as possible right now. Tell the Amazonians to deliver it. M.I.A., send out an SOS to the multiverse system. We need Caitlin's for help as well. Also, send out a Justice League alert throughout Gotham that the water is not safe. Everyone else, we need to move pretty much the entire population of Gotham out of Gotham and to hospitals elsewhere. Floating Island probably has the most room to hold people and help. Supergirl, bring Flash Pup, both Superdogs, Super Monkey, and Super Horse. In fact, we could use more than one horse..." Rae was sorry she left her dog at home this morning when she went to talk to her cousins at Home Base, but Clarky had been sleeping and she thought she would not be gone long.
Rae heard confirmations from everyone her plans were being followed.
"Step two, we must stop this from traveling further. It might be contained to the Gotham Water supply for now but water moves. If this hits a lake, river, or the ocean…" Rae continued.
"...bad news," Alfred finished the sentence and Rae saw Leona let out a freeze breath. That gave her an idea.
"Caitlin, that clone of Crystal, Cordelia, how is she?" Rae asked.
"Really good, she's learning well. Dad is teaching… and you just want to know if she can freeze the water," Caitlin said, realizing why Rae was asking at this moment. "That should be in her wheelhouse."
"Good, in fact we could probably use more Frosts and Ice Maidan. M.I.A., add that to the multiverse message," Rae instructed.
"Wouldn't it be better to use fire to evaporate it?" Tommy asked this question.
"No," Caitlin stated before Rae could answer. "With the toxin in the water, evaporating it would only make that toxin airborne, which could have disastrous consequences globally. Rae is right, we need to freeze it."
"I never even thought of that..." Rae stated, surprised at her own intellect as she nodded to Caitlin. Tommy acknowledged this too. "Now, let's get out there. Alfred, take the kids."
"I will protect them," Alfred said.
"I'm beginning to regret ever wanting to know what happened to Beth and Kate now," Rae sighed to herself as she began to move too.
-New Justice-
Rae had been running people out of Gotham as fast as she could, but even with her speed she was getting exhausted. She stopped for a moment near where Cordelia and a couple of Crystals were freezing the water by the local river.
"How's the ice?" Rae asked.
"Well, the pipes in Gotham are going to need replacing but we managed to freeze everything," one Crystal answered her. "We're going to work on keeping it frozen, but we could use some Kryptonians with their freeze breath."
"Supergirl, can we get some dogs and cats to work under the Frosts?" Rae asked into the coms.
"Sure can," Kara answered back.
"Thanks!" Rae smiled at her wife on the coms, but her eyes turned to who was obviously Cordelia among the other Frosts. "Hey, are you doing okay?" Rae asked Cordelia; despite being the same as the alternates, she was obvious in that she was shyer, genuinely quieter than the others and wasn't really in a superhero outfit; Caitlin had gotten something quick on her to help hide her identity.
"Yes, thank you," Cordelia answered.
"Good. Maybe we have a new Frost after all," Rae said, giving the clone a smile.
"No. I don't want to use my original's name," Cordelia answered quickly.
"Well, I go by Ice Maidan," one Crystal spoke up. "If you don't like that we can figure something else out." this Crystal put an arm around the clone of her alternate and gave Rae a nod that she had this.
Rae gave a nod back and backed away, ready to run and collect more people to move along when Sara, on the back of Super Horse, landed in front of her.
"Kal's happy you're on his back I see," Rae couldn't help but comment, the horse obviously pleased to have Sara back with him.
"It's been a while," Sara smiled at this, patting the horse's neck. "But Flash, you need to see this," Sara pulled out a phone and turned the video to Rae. It showed Mad Hatter and another woman who was calling herself Alice – Rae hadn't been that involved in the Wonderland Gang's activities, after all – taking credit on behalf of the Wonderland Gang for the poisoning of Gotham. They even made a claim that their poison had no cure and now all of Gotham would die.
"Can M.I.A. confirm this is Beth and Kate Kane?" Rae asked.
"No," Sara said, giving a frown. "They did too good of a job hiding their faces and voices."
"I think I need to play damage control before we have a riot," Rae said, grabbing her communicator now. "M.I.A., send a message to all news media I will be making a speech in front of the Hall of Justice in DC in 30 minutes. That should give them enough time to get their cameras there."
"Yes, Flash," M.I.A. responded.
"Think you can control this?" Sara asked.
"We'll see. I'm starting to wish I had gone with Prime and Karry Barry on a Seven Forces mission," Rae mused, making Sara blink. "But I am the Flash. Earth's longest running hero. I'll control this." Rae gave Sara a nod before getting Kal the Super Horse to 'gee up' as he took the air once more.
-New Justice-
When Rae walked out of the Hall of Justice half an hour later, she was happy to see she was right in that the time scale was long enough. Usually when Rae made announcements here it was introducing new members of the Justice League to the world, with her entire League with her, but now she was alone. Even Clarky was still in Gotham helping remove everyone out.
"I'm going to make this short and fast," Rae said as she stepped up to the microphone. "I can confirm that a poison has been introduced into the Gotham water supply, but the claims from Alice and Mad Hatter of the Wonderland Gang saying there is no cure is false. The Justice League has a cure," at that, Rae took out one of the flowers she had taken to show it – the cure from the Amazonians that had previously saved a girl called Mary. "This little flower was given to us by Queen Emma and King Jace of the Amazonians; the Justice League's allies. It has incredible healing abilities and is a cure for many poisons including this one. We have used it before and saved the life of Mary Hamilton with it. Right now, the Amazonians are bringing as many as they can over to the Justice League where Wild Fire is making the cure. We will also be giving instructions and flowers to STAR Labs, Queens Consolidates, and Wayne Industries to help us increase our supplies of the cure faster than we can do alone. Meanwhile, the rest of the Justice League are moving infected people out of Gotham to where they can get treatment." Rae had given the order to get help from the three companies before she walked out with Caitlin telling her she needed more hands to help make the cure.
"What about the water?" A reporter called out.
"We have confirmed that mixing the cure with the infected water will purify the poison from the water. We are putting priority on curing the sick and to stop the poison from spreading outside of Gotham, several ice metas who have the same power as our late Frost have frozen all the water inside Gotham. Kryptonian animals we have borrowed from the Kryptonian Sanctuary are helping keep the water frozen until we can purify it, also. And, if there is anyone else with such powers who want to help, you'd be welcomed to join," Rae said.
"What should people in Gotham be doing if they are not sick yet? Should they leave the city?" Another reporter asked.
"Well, the first step is avoid any water that isn't bottled. We don't want a mad rush out of the city. I would stay inside your homes and not leave," Rae stated. "But if you feel you need to get out, well, we can't stop you. Just don't interrupt us getting the sick out. And if you feel symptoms, start reaching out immediately. Gotham's 9-1-1 services has been rerouted to the Justice League for this emergency. The poison is fast-acting and while the water has diluted it, it's still acting fast." Rae took a deep breath.
"I've been through a lot with this world," Rae continued. "I'm not going to lie to you. There have already been deaths and there will be more, but we are going to save as many lives as possible and we will bring the people who do this to justice. One way or the other."
"Will you be activating Code Dominate for this?" Someone else asked.
"Why would I?" Rae paused at this. "Code Dominate is for world emergencies and this is not a world emergency. Now, if the United States army would like to join us and follow my lead, they would be welcome to help. I know you all have a lot more questions and I would love to answer them all, but the Justice League needs my speed. My staying here could mean one more life gone. I will have to end this now. The Justice League systems will continue giving progress reports."
Rae didn't wait another moment before using her speed to leave, knowing the last thing the cameras would see would be her speed trail. This was going to be a long day...
-New Justice-
A few hours later, Sara stormed into Wayne Manor, she was angry and needed to vent. It had been a hell of a day, and she knew she needed to stop the Wonderland Gang.
The poisoning of Gotham's water supply was the last straw for her; if the League hadn't stepped in then the casualties could have been much worse. Gotham itself was like a ghost town at the moment; with many in neighboring cities or the new floating island. Only the ice metas and Kryptonians were about, keeping the infected water frozen. Caitlin said they would have enough of the cure to purify the water early tomorrow.
They all knew who did it. Alice and Mad Hatter of the Wonderland Gang had taken credit for it. And they knew who those leaders were: Kate and Beth Kane. But Rae still said they didn't have enough evidence and she was right. With the money the two had on their side, what they had wasn't enough. They needed solid proof.
"Sara?" Selina asked not surprised to see Sara so angry. She was sitting inside Helen's room where all three kids were. Sara had to give a small smile to Leona asleep there too. Rae and Kara had babysat Helena and Kathleen enough, after all.
"This ends tonight," Sara snapped, not even saying hello, but she did move over to her daughter to give her sleeping daughter a kiss on the head – if anything had happened to Kathleen... It was only because of the Wayne paranoia that nothing had happened to them.
"Okay. But how?" Selina asked. "We've tried to catch the Wonderland Gang, and Kate and Beth on multiple attempts, but it's been impossible."
"That's because they've been one step ahead of us, thinking in twisted ways rather than how we think. So, we need to think like them," Sara explained.
"And we do that how?" Selina asked.
"Infiltration," Tommy spoke up, coming in after his wife now, having helped with the fallout of the gang's latest crime.
"Oh," Selina nodded, getting it.
"If we can get close to Kate and Beth, we can grab them and take them down," Tommy continued. "Them in the costumes will be enough."
"But how do we do that?" Selina asked the pair. "We need to know where they are."
"That one is simple," now it was Alfred who came into the room as the three heroes turned to him. He seemed to always appear when they needed him. "The Kane sisters are hosting a Kidnappers Anonymous meeting tonight at the Crows HQ. Strangely enough, there's no more information and no way to book into the event – and no mention of cancellation even after today's events," he had a tablet on him, showing them the information on the screen.
"It's a smoke screen," Sara stated, knowing what this meant. "They need the Crows HQ but can't have it publicly known that they're using it for the Wonderland Gang."
"Does Sophie know this?" Selina asked, causing the people in the room to look at her.
"It seems she's been reassigned to help the public because of the water poisoning," Alfred explained, being surprisingly tech savvy for a man of his age as he quickly looked this information up on the tablet as well.
"Okay, so she's safe," Selina nodded, causing Sara to raise an eyebrow at Tommy for the concern but they quickly dismissed it.
"We need to find some Wonderland Gang members to take their place," Tommy spoke up now.
"And we need more than us three…" Sara mused. "I'm going to see what Laurel, Thea and JT are up to. If we can get them involved in this too, it'll be a fairer fight."
"Alright. Let's go and take out the Wonderland Gang," Selina smirked, standing at this.
-New Justice-
It was late at evening when Rae finally got home and fell onto the couch.
"You okay?" Kara asked her wife, sitting down and putting Rae's head on her lap.
"Even with my speed that was exhausting," Rae said. The Justice League had had to move the entire population of Gotham out of the city by the end of it.
"Picture it without your speed," Courtney spoke up, coming in and supporting her weight on the Staff, which was still lit up. "If there's nothing else we need to do, I'm going to bed."
"Yes, go, we moved the population. The rest is up to the cure and the doctors. Plus – the ice metas," Rae said. They had left several Kryptonian animals with ice metas to help keep the water frozen overnight. Courtney put her weight on the Staff now, and let it fly her up the stairs.
"I should go back to Gotham soon and help keep everything frozen, but I need a couple hours of rest," Kara said. "Where's Leona?"
"Alfred agreed to watch her overnight," Rae said. "So, we can rest without worry for her. I almost didn't take him up on that offer but thought it might be for the best..." Rae frowned, not liking having her daughter so far, but when she had gone to pick Leona up the girl was already sleeping in an extra crib Wayne Manor had.
Rae's cellphone binged at that moment and Kara grabbed it.
"Karry," Kara said handing it to Rae who held it over her, so she didn't have to sit up.
"Looks like they managed to handle the Life Force without me," Rae said reading the message that it had been the Life Force and they had settled it. The Totem and Cosmic Staff would be fine. Rae raised an eyebrow, not realizing Courtney's Staff had been affected as well. "Oh, and Chris will be home tomorrow."
"Lazy, he skipped out on all the fun," Kara said, jokingly. "Come on let's go to bed for a bit..." Rae reluctantly got up and followed her wife up to their room.
-New Justice-
In Gotham, Sara had recruited Laurel, Thea, and JT to help in their takedown of the Wonderland Gang. They had left the kids with Alfred and had managed to find a group of the Wonderland Gang taunting some people outside a hospital. It seemed they were lucky enough not to have been poisoned but likely had family members or friends who were. Taking them out and taking their outfits were easy enough.
Once inside the HQ, it seemed Alfred's suspicions on Beth and Kate using the place as a base for their Gang meeting was confirmed as, after getting into the main open plan office, the vigilantes were soon face-to-face with Mad Hatter and Alice – and about thirty other Wonderland Gang members. They needed to do this slow and steady, and only attack if all hell broke loose.
"Well, all the Kings Horses are gathered this evening," Alice was saying, taking the lead of the pair. It was obvious up closer that she and Mad Hatter were Beth and Kate Kane though – Alice didn't wear a mask, but had her face painted paler, wearing a blonde wig, but she was Beth Kane, while Mad Hatter may wear a mask and top hat herself, but the body language, the height, and the eyes they could see through the mask were completely Kate Kane.
"Wonderland!" Most of the Wonderland Gang chanted at Alice's unusual claim. "Wonderland!"
"It's taken a short time to gather you all here, to celebrate our victory, but we have a lot more to do, my fellow mad March Hares," Alice continued. "You may notice our third, dear Mousy, isn't here today. But he has other business with the caterpillar," Alice explained candidly.
As Beth spoke, Sara, getting annoyed at their cryptical Alice in Wonderland talk, inched closer to the sisters, Tommy just behind while the other vigilantes kept an eye out, incognito in their stolen Wonderland Gang mask – they may be outnumbered here, but they were skilled compared to those of the Wonderland Gang around them, who were thugs and inexperienced kids in some case.
"Those members of the Justice League may have foiled us in the poisoning, but our next plan is… explosive," Alice now stated, grinning. "Our time in the Tulgey Wood has taught Mad Hatter and I a lot about fire, of explosions and the beauty of destruction, which is why–"
"Hush, sister," Mad Hatter suddenly spoke up, having moved next to Alice as she'd addressed their numbers. Beth turned to Kate. "Some of our numbers are not true."
"We have weeds among our beautiful flowers?" Alice addressed her sister as Sara and Tommy paused, they were close to the sisters now, but with the rest of the Wonderland Gang in their masks and normal clothes, it was hard to distinguish them among the others.
"You!" Kate jumped forward, grabbing one of their gang members, right next to Sara herself and ripping off their mask, shocking the gang member. "No… not you." Kate stated but turned to face Sara in her own mask.
"Okay, you've got me," Sara stated, taking off her own mask, wanting to get in some fighting now anyway.
"And I have you!" Tommy added – before anyone could react, he hit Kate around the back of the head – hard – knocking her out instantly.
"No!" Beth screamed as all hell broke loose. Selina, JT, Thea, and Laurel jumped into action, taking off their own masks as they quickly attacked the shocked Wonderland Gang around them. With Kate already knocked out, Sara and Tommy's attention went directly to Alice.
With her sister's attack, Alice had jumped forward, finding herself in hand-to-hand combat with both Sara and Tommy, but she was quickly overwhelmed by them. Sara, with her League of Assassins training, and Tommy with his Amazonian training by the male Amazonians, were easily able to take her out.
It wasn't long before she, too, was unconscious on the floor.
"We did it!" Sara stated to Tommy, shocked they had actually got the leaders of the Wonderland Gang. With that call, it seemed the surviving members of the Wonderland Gang got scared, as many of them began to run – but Thea, JT and Selina now were good at grabbing them.
"You really should have asked for our help sooner…" Laurel stated, moving over to her sister as she looked down to the unconscious twins. "What now?"
"Let's get these to Alcatraz," Sara decided on the spot. "We don't want to risk it."
-New Justice-
Sara, now dressed as White Canary, along with Tommy as Black Arrow were in Alcatraz. Laurel, JT and Thea had gone back to Canary City now their work was done.
Alcatraz wasn't strictly equipped for normal prisoners, being a meta jail, but the place had cells free for the two sisters and with a leader of the Justice League vouching to get Kate and Beth Kane in the cells, it wasn't difficult to get them locked up there. The Justice League members had also been sure to wear cameras so there was no way for the two to deny it had been them. They had them dead to rights for all the crimes the Wonderland Gang had committed.
Both sisters had awoken, both instantly frustrated they had been caught and unmasked, but it was Beth's cell that Sara and Tommy now stood in front – she was the one who had led the chant and speech to the gang – all of whom were now being processed by the remaining Gotham Police Department.
"What happened to you, Beth?" Sara asked the former leader of the Wonderland Gang through the glass of the cell.
"I… I fell down a rabbit hole," Beth stated quietly. She still had her white wig on.
"No, really, what happened?" Tommy tried now.
"I was given the wrong mushroom," Beth smirked now. Obviously not talking.
"Okay. Where's Mouse?" Sara asked. "You said something about a caterpillar…"
"How doth the little crocodile improve its shining tail?" Beth countered back.
"What…?" Tommy and Sara paused at this.
"And pour the waters of the Nile on every golden scale…" Beth continued.
"We're getting nowhere…" Sara stated.
"How cheerfully he seems to grin–" Beth continued.
"We could ask your sister instead," Sara snapped at the mad woman, stopping her impromptu poetry recital.
"You won't get anything from her – she's mad!" Beth actually laughed at this as Sara and Tommy sighed, stepping back and away from the cell.
"We're not going to get anything out of them at the moment," Tommy stated to his wife.
"I know," Sara agreed. "We don't know their motivation, or what even happened to them to make them like this, but at least we've stopped the Wonderland Gang permanently."
"Which is a win for us. A major win," Tommy agreed, the pair walking away from the cell now.
"There's only the loose end of this Mouse. Although we don't even know who he is," Sara mused as they headed back to the guard's office to get let out of the jail.
"We'll get him. Once he finds out Alice and Mad Hatter have been captured, I'm sure he'll come for them," Tommy stated.
"And when he does, we'll be waiting," Sara smirked.
-New Justice-
Rae was in bed when her communicator went off. She rolled over and grabbed it.
"Don't tell me there is another poisoning in Gotham, White Canary," Rae said, knowing it was from her third.
"No, we just wanted to tell you we got them," Sara's voice came over the communicator. "Dead to rights. There is no way out of this one."
"Good," Rae said, happy for the Gotham heroes. "Wish I had been able to help."
"You did more than enough helping clean up their mess. No, we needed to be sneaky for this one and your definitely... showy," Sara chuckled slightly.
"I'll take that as a compliment, White Canary," Rae said and heard Sara laugh. "See you tomorrow. I'm going to come check out Gotham after I recharge."
"Look forward to it," Sara answered back and Rae hung up her communicator.
"Well... the Wonderland Gang is no more." Rae whispered to what she thought was Kara under the covers and then noticed it was Clarky. "Wait, where's Kara?"
Clarky's paw went to a note and Rae took it. It was from Kara, telling her she couldn't sleep and wanted to help keep the water frozen. Rae gave a nod, knowing Kryptonians usually didn't need as much sleep as humans anyway.
"I guess it's just us tonight," Rae commented, snuggling next to Clarky, happy to fall asleep peacefully tonight.
Post Chapter Note: Well then, this chapter was hell to write. I actually wrote it last, after the rest of the season was written! Hah. Oh, you can thank my co-writer for writing the takedown so I didn't have to, as I completely blocked that from my head. But Kate and Beth are on my list of character to never use again. The idea was good but the execution, for me, was just not inspiring. It didn't help that this was planned soon after we watched the season 2 finale of Batwoman, and that's going back a bit...
I hope you enjoyed it though. This isn't the last chapter, since I ended this plot early to focus on plots that were more inspiring for me to write. It's still complete madness, though 😉
Karry Masters OUT!
