A/N: So I had a Weird dream that I was actually Eivor myself last night. I don't normally write in first person view but here we are. By the way I mean Eivor, it's all from Eivor's perspective. It's not a Reader/Eivor fic. It's Eivor and Oswald. Now that that's cleared up we can get on with the fic.
We were outside in a grassy bog in East Anglia. My new friend and Protege who I had been asked to train in the past few days followed me close behind. He was eager.
"So What Can I do to help? I want to learn" Oswald piped up behind me.
I looked over to him to his flushed and grinning and eager face.
"You can start off by picking the boxes over there and help lifting it for me. You know to prepare for the raid"
"Alright" he nodded
There were a lot of boxes so I took one myself as well and called my crew over to help. Several Jomsviking arrived, Broder also arrived to help carrying a box.
We walked further across the marsh until we arrived at the place the boxes needed to be dropped off.
"Here you can leave them there"
Oswald dropped the box off where I asked him to after I did so first along with the rest of my crew.
"So What do we do next?" He asked looking at me for the next instruction
"We go for a raid. A practice raid. A practice one so we can learn some fighting skills"
He picked up his sword as he followed me and my crew to my Longship where we sailed on the river and found a small island to pratice his fighting skills.
It was a simple enough task, a tiny settlement with only a few guards. I watched him closely, keeping a close eye making sure he was alright.
He swung wildly fighting them with determination killing a few along the way I was impressed. He could hold out his own without me intervening and helping.
We went back to the ship after. I could tell he was worn out and exhausted his shoulders slumping down.
"Are you tired?" I asked frowning at him concern
"No. No" he denied shaking his head wildly
"I'm not I'm fine"
I wasn't convinced but I let it slide. At least he was determined to prove himself and keep going for me for Valdis I wasn't sure.
Soon we reached the shore. We docked by a small beach. The next tasks wasn't so easy unlike the others, it was a test of bravery. One that he needed to do to show his strength and courage to his bride Valdis.
Picking up several birds who happened to be lost at the beach right at that moment along with my crew, I instructed Oswald to do the same.
"Pick up a injured bird. We need to take them to a safer place to safety then release them back in the wild"
He nodded hands on his hips "Should be easy enough"
Boy was he wrong
I watched him carefully and gently take the eagle in his hands as I did the same with mine expertly. It was no different to Synin, just a different species this was second nature to me.
We walked further along with nothing happening, Oswald grinning widely he looked like he was enjoying himself.
So I decided to make conversation seeing everything was going well, or I thought it was.
"Valdis would be proud. She's lucky to have you." I smiled
There was no time for him to respond as a second later, the unhappy Eagle clawed at him angrily, it's claws digging into Oswald's skin as he screamed loudly in front of me.
"Ahhh Ahhhh Ouch" he yelled in pain as he desperately tried to push the eagle off his hands.
I watched him shake it off as a few laughs came from behind me. It was my crew they were laughing at him. I watched in concern and pity wanting to help, but also knowing if I did he wouldn't learn. He needs to figure this out himself.
He eventually managed to shake the eagle off. The eagle flew away up and and away from him almost like it wanted to get the hell away from Oswald for some reason.
He grimaced at his hands looking down at them, curling them in pain as he mumbled to himself.
"Great, Just Great"
Looking down on the ground, he saw a dead raven in front of him. That was the last straw, it was too much.
Bile started coming from his throat as he felt sick coming up, he tried his best to hide it but he couldn't it was overwhelming.
I watched him clutch his chest as sweat started to drip from his forehead and his expression changed.
"I don't feel well... I think I'm gonna" was the the last thing he said as he doubled down over orange puke going everywhere on the ground.
Right at that moment a boisterous raider od mine decided to pipe in laughing and teasing.
"This man is meant to marry Valdis Unbelievable" He chuckled
I shot him a warning glare, and he backed down as I walked over to Oswald rubbing his back in concern.
Letting go of my own eagle which flew in the air gracefully, I approached him.
"Are you alright? It's alright you did a good job"
He heaved and panted in front of me.
"I'm fine... I'm fine" he mumured
He didn't look fine. He looked upset and disappointed in himself. I wasn't about to blow his cover so I just let it slide.
"Alright let's get you back home, I think we've had enough for one day" I said gently back to him
He nodded as he followed me close behind the sandy shore, heading back for my ship.
A/N: Poor Oswald trying his best only to fail miserably again. For some reason the eagle i saw in my dream was ikaros from Odyssey, they were all carrying Kassandra's bird. It was a clone of ikaros that clawed at Oswald, guess ikaros' descendant and twin didn't like him. If you liked and enjoyed this silly little story of mine, Can you comment and leave a favourite as FFN is glitching again and my stat page still hasn't fixed itself. Thanks and see you next time!
