After a whole day, we had finally gotten off the plane. The "airport" as Guy called it was moderately full. This is because it's apparently 1 AM.
I am so excited. Not only because I get to maybe finally talk to someone, but because I get to be in a car again! This car is very different from Ahmed's. It's cleaner, there's more space, it doesn't make the same sounds. This is ok. The driver isn't Guy, it's someone else. He looks exhausted.
The surrounding area is very different. Some buildings look like castles, others look modern, some are a mix of the two. I don't like it. It's ugly. On top of this place looking like a picture book threw up on it, it's just sad looking. What's the point of having the castles if nothing looks happy?
My thoughts begin to drift away from the confusing architecture, and focus on Ryou. I still don't know how old he is, what he looks like, or what his personality is like. To make things a bit more confusing, I don't even know if I'll actually be able to complete my goal. Will I even be able to control Ryou's body? Will I be able to talk to him? If so, how do I explain all of this to him? I only remember a few things of my past, only two I can recall vividly.
Would Ryou understand? Would he even help me? Would he even care? Why was he chosen? Why after so long? How come he knew about it? Why was his dad insane?
I don't like thinking
Finally, at 2:39, I have arrived.
The house was a decent size, and a sandy color with a light brown roof. I'm so excited. I would bounce if I could.
After going inside, Guy put the ring in a paper bag and set it aside.
"I got here just in time," he said. "Ryou's birthday is today."
Today today, or yesterday before twelve?
"He'll be so happy! I wish I had just a little extra time to get a better bag, but this is good enough!"
I wanna see your kid.
"I'm not tired at all, so I'll just watch TV until Ryou wakes up."
Can I come with you? I'm bored.
"Do you wanna come? I probably don't have the same tastes as you."
Yes. I don't care.
He turned it on, scrolled through a few options before settling on a show that looked like it was about mushrooms.
"This is a documentary," guy explained. "It just so happens to be about mushrooms. Do you like mushrooms?"
I'm not sure. It's been awhile.
The documentary continued. It was a little boring, and I wanted to see my host. Suddenly, the sound of feet slowly padding across the floor caught my attention.
I looked down the dark hallway, just behind the couch. There was a child. A little boy, with white hair and pale skin.
We made eye contact. His eyes were big and droopy. Likely from being tired. As we stare at one another, I realize, this is my host. This tiny, weak-ass looking baby… is my host. We stare more before his eyes begin to water, and he starts crying. Loudly.
"Ryou?!" Guy shouts, surprised. "What are you doing awake? Is everything ok?"
"Papa, there's a guy!" His voice cracked and he sniffled, pointing right at me.
"A guy?" He looked in the direction Ryou pointed. "Oh, that's probably just the spirit of the ring."
Ryou stopped crying, but continued sniffling. He tilted his head. "What?"
Why did he say that so casually?
Ryou jumped. "It talked!"
Please stop shouting.
Guy pat Ryou's head. "It's ok. Go get water or milk and then go back to bed. In the morning you and the spirit can get to know each other."
Did you really not explain anything? I don't even think he wants to get to know me!
Ryou nodded and went to get a drink. Never breaking eye contact with me.
