Welcome back to the Third chapter of this story. In this chapter, we'll learn about the effect meeting Mei Hatsume has on the course of Izuku Midoirya. And if she'll be about to help Izuku become the hero he's always wanted to be.
Ahem- to the person that commented on the last chapter, you're input was similar to my thoughts when I first began this story. Then I realized making Izuku have a powerful quirk but making it difficult to use was the whole point of the story. His growth as a character.
If you want to know my thoughts on this, continue reading. If not you can jump to the beginning of the story.
1. If I allowed Izuku to simply generate lightning he would become extremely overpowered. Especially with how powerful his quirk is compared to other electricity quirk users, even within the first chapter.
2. Knowing myself, that would make it extremely hard to write fight scene without Izuku almost instantly winning. If I made Izuku struggle in a fight then it would feel, like he's only doing so become he's limiting himself. In my stories, I want my characters' struggles to feel more natural, not forced for story-sake.
3. As the readers, you'll come to learn that in all my stories, I post. (This will not be the only story I will. I have ideas for two other stories, but both of them are early in the idea stage, so don't expect them anytime soon). I don't like writing the changed character all that similar to a different character in the story. Making the other character feel a little redundant, i.e in this story if Izuku could discharge his electricity, it would make Denki Kaminari feel extremely redundant, quirk wise.
Making it feel like he has no purpose in the story, and honestly Kaminari is one of my favorite side character. He's one of the characters I will never write out of a story.
And as always I do not own any rights to Marvel or MY HERO ACADEMIA or any of their characters.
With that let's begin
Down at the police station, the girl was placed in an interrogation room, while the Midoriyas were in the adjacent waiting room. Izuku watched her through the mirrored window, she had pink dreadlocks and she was a blank tank top. All over a pair of blue overall, or at least Izuku assumed they were blue as it was hard to turn with all the oil stains and burn marks
"Izuku, did you steal something from that girl?" Inko asked. Izuku looked at his mother and shook his head. Showing he was just as confused as she was to what was going.
"No. She just came to the beach, looking for a battery and started attacking me. She said I had one and that I stole it from her. I'm surprised she was able to follow me home and did so." Izuku looked through the one-way window and watched as the girl pulled something from her pocket. She fiddling it for a few second, then put on it the table as she reached back into her pockets. She quickly pulled an AA battery and connected it to the device. The motor of the device began to slowly spin, but then died, showing the battery was dead.
She huffed a bit, then began pulling out more batteries and tried each one. By the time she ran out, she had gone through 15 different batteries. She pouted as she shoved the dead batteries back into her pocket. As she did so, Izuku looked at his hands, then looked back at the device the girl was fiddling with. She had dropped it onto the table, which was quickly joined by her head. As she covered her faced with her arms, hiding/showing her disappointment.
As Izuku watched this, it became clear why the girl was looking for a battery.
"She's needs one to power her device." Izuku quietly said to himself, as he thought about his quirk. The girl claimed he had a battery, but Izuku clearly didn't. Maybe it was scanning his quirk, since it turned him a giant battery.
As Izuku thought as that, the police officer from before knocking on the door, then walked in, "Are you comfortable?"
"We are Officer. I'm just not sure why you had to put that little girl in an interrogation room." Inko said. She didn't personally know the girl, but seeing the girl in that kind of room made Into a little nervous.
"Well in the eyes of the law, she is a criminal. She was stalking and had trespassed. So it was this or a holding cell." The officer seemed a little amused and confused at the situation he was in. He knew when his co-workers heard about this, they would laugh. He always seemed to be the one to get these kinds of cases.
"Officer, I think this is simply a matter of misunderstanding each other." Izuku said without taking his eyes off the girl, "She came to the beach looking for a battery, which she would use to power that device she has," The officer looked at the device the girl had discarded and looked a bit panicked she had it, "She had a sensor, I think it was scanning for battery with power. Her sensor must have picked up on me because my quirk turned me into a living battery. She must have thought I got to it before her and stole it."
"That does sound like a working theory." the officer said. Shoot it better than any he had come up with. The best he had come with so far was the girl was mentally deranged and needed to be admitted to a psych ward.
"Do you mind if I ask her some questions?" Izuku asked, still not looking away from the girl.
"It isn't the usual, however, she doesn't seem to be too dangerous." The officer had no idea what to say. He knew however he wasn't going to send the kid in
However, Izuku had taken that as a yes. He quickly walked over to the door that led to the interrogation room. He opened it and walked in.
"Thief." The girl said, as she immediately noticed Izuku. She glared at him, but he was used to getting death glares from Kacchan. So her's did nothing.
"My name is Izuku Midoriya and I'm not a thief." Izuku calmly said, as he closed the door behind him. He wanted to sound like a tough cop but knew he wouldn't be able to get the persona up.
"Mei Hatsume. If you're not a thief, then what did you do with my battery?" Hatsume asked, at least she was polite enough to name herself.
"There never was a battery. Do you still have your sensor?" Izuku said, walking over and sitting across from Hatsume.
Hatsume nodded and pulled out the sensor. Izuku held out his hand, so Hatsume slid it across the table to him. It was a little confusing, but Izuku eventually found the 'ON' switch. After turning it on, he turned on himself, then placed it on the table for Hatsume to see. The arrow was pointed at Izuku and it was green, "There never was a battery. My quirk allows my body to store high amounts of electricity. Your little device was scanning me, not a battery."
"Prove it." Hatsume gestured to the broken device on the table. Izuku sighed as he picked up the device, Hatsume made is clear this was the only way she would believe him. He held his left index and pinky against the exposed wires, Hatsume had touched the batteries to. After a few moments the motor slowly hummed to life. It was moving slowly, barely faster than the AA batteries from before. However, it caused stars to take over Hatsume's eyes, "You're perfect, you'll be able to power my babies."
Hatsume tried to launch herself has Izuku, but she had been cuffed to the tables, so she just fell out of her chair. Almost biffing her chin on the floor, as she fell.
Izuku didn't know what shocked him more. The way Hatsume reacted to him powering the device, or the fact she said something about babies.
"Midoriya. I believe that's enough." The officer, with his mother behind him, walked into the room, "Ms Hatsume's parents are here and ready to pick her up."
Hatsume was uncuffed from the table and brought to the front of the precinct. Two people with similar characteristics to Hatsume were waiting at the front door.
"Mom, Dad. I finally found something powerful to power my babies." Hatsume said, hopping over to her parents. Her father was wearing a similar outfit to her but had fewer grease stains over his overalls. Mrs Hatsume looked more presentable, with a simple pair of jeans and a dark blue short sleeve shirt. She obviously recently washed her hair, as it was done up in a ponytail, while her husband's hair was full of dirt and hung loose around his neck.
"Um, what is she referring to?" Inko asked, turning Hatsumes' attention to her. Hearing Mei referring to something as babies was a little concerning for Inko. Mei was only Izuku's age, so she shouldn't have kids of her own.
"Oh sorry, that's what our little ball of energy refers to her invention as. Sorry if she caused you any issue." Mrs Hatsume asked, placing a hand on Mei's shoulder.
Inko took a deep breath, as she felt her worry begin to disappear, "Everything's fine. It was just a simple misunderstanding. No real harm was done."
"So what did you find, my little girl?" Mr Hatsume asked, wrestling a hug out of his daughter. Mei tried to wiggle out of it but failed. She eventaully gave up and pointed at Izuku
"Him." Mei Hatsume looked at Izuku with greed in her eyes.
"Um... Hi." Izuku asked, giving a small wave. He didn't like being around new people and being the center of attention. So the two adults looking at him were quite unnerving.
"What do you mean?" Mr Hatusmi asked, throwing a confused glance at Izuku, and then at his daughter.
"His quirk." Mei said. Becoming even more confused, the Hatsume's looked at Izuku, asking for an explanation.
"My quirk turns me into a living battery." Izuku explained. He felt like he needed a better way of saying that.
"Aw, that explains it. My little ball of energy makes things all day, but her invention requires a lot of energy. So normal batteries don't work too well. She found you and thought she had to do whatever she could to use you." Mr Hatsume laughed at his comment, while Mrs Hatsume and Inko blushed.
"How about dinner on us? To make up for the trouble our daughter has caused you." Mrs Hatsume offered, holding her hand out towards Inko.
"There's no need for that. As I say, no harm was done." Inko said, shaking her head.
"Then let's just say it's more to ease our consciousness." Mrs. Hatsume offered, but Inko shook her head again, "Then how about to new friendship, despite it strange beginning."
That made Inko chuckle a bit as she thought about the offer. In the end she accepted it with a handshake. Once all the paperworked was handled, the families made plans for dinner. When that was settle, they parted ways to prepare themselves for dinner.
After meeting back up, Mr Hatsume took them out for expensive Japanese Barbecue. When Inko worried about the price, they reassured her that everything would be fine. Mr Hatsume explained that they were in the business of making support equipment for heroes, so they could afford expensive things like this every once and a while. Hearing that, Izuku's eyes went wide and he immediately asked them what kind of heroes they worked with.
Mrs Hatsume answered Izuku's questions, while Mr Hatsume leaned over to Inko and said, "You've got a little fanboy there."
"It's been his dream to be a dream since he got his quirk. However his quirk makes him a battery, so unfortunately he can't force that electricity outside his body without some powerful equipment." Inko whispered. She looked at her son and saw stars in his eyes as Mrs Hatsume listed off Crimson Dynamo and UnderTow.
"That's sad. Kid has all that electricity, but has no way to use it." Mr Hatsume said, as he seemed to get lost in thought. After a few seconds, he looked back at Inko, "I hate to ask this, but would Izuku be willing to receive some help from some local support company."
"What do you have in mind?" Inko asked, noticing a cheeky smirk on Mr Hatsume. A similar smile that her ex-husband always got, when he had an idea that could either make him millions or blow right up in his face. Inko smiled a bit at that, but quickly shook her mind away from her ex-husband and refocused on Mr Hatsume.
"I know our families might have gotten off on an awkward foot, and I know you think this dinner makes up for it. However, I have an idea I would like to run by your son and see what he thinks of it. If he could come by the shop after school on Monday, I believe I would have something that would excite him." Mr Hatsume had already pulled out a business card. He put it on the table and slid it in front of Inko, before tapping it twice.
Inko looked over the business as she thought over Mr Hatsume's offer. It read Hatsume Industries, Helping Those That Help Others. Inko couldn't deny they had met in a bizarre way, however, the Hatsumes seemed like genuinely good people. If they thought could help Izuku, Inko was accept it, moreso if they couuld help her with her own idea of helping her son, "I'll ask Izuku about it and see what he thinks."
Inko accepted the business card and Mr Hatsume nodded and made no other comment about the situation for the rest of the night. The group enjoyed the rest of their dinner, afterwards departing ways. Inko made no comment about Mr. Hatsume's offer, the only drive.
Once Izuku was ready for bed and slipped into Pajamas, Inko knocked on the door. "Hey Zuzu, can I talk to you for a few second?"
Confused about what his mother wanted to talk about, Izuku walked over and opened the door. "Yeah mom. What do you want to walk about?" Izuku said, as he looked down a his mom. She had a thoughtful looked on her face.
"During dinner, Mr Hatsume approached me with an offer. He said had an idea he wanted you to see. He believes that it could help with your quirk." Inko said, holding out the business card from eariler.
Izuku looked at the card, as a fight when on in his mind. The Hatsumes seemed like nice people, but with their assistance didn't actually help that much in the end. That would just reaffirm to Izuku how useless his quirk was. Yet the helped heroes, came across all different types of quirk, they would have the higher chance of having something that could help Izuku, they had even helped Whiplash and his quirk wasn't the powerful.
It won't hurt to see if they could help, Izuku would have to work hard to stay positive if it didn't work out in the end. Though he knew he should just lock his dream away in a safe and throw a key. Izuku instinctively knew that deep down he would never be able to live with himself if he stopped trying.
Izuku focused back on the business card before taking a deep breath and saying, "It can't hurt to see what they have to offer."
And there's chapter three. We get to meet Mei Hatsume's parents and learn what they do for a living. They'll be important with Izuku becoming ready to face the UA entrance exam, but after he gets in. They're rule as mentor and teacher shift to a UA teacher. They'll still be within the story and help Izuku solve issue that raise during his training and inventing, but Mei will be the main Hatsume for the story.
Next chapter we get to see what help the Hatsume's will be able to provide Izuku and if it will be enough to get him ready for the UA entrance exam.
Tell me what you think of the story and see you next week.
Next time: New and Old Friends.
