On October 9, 1993, it was a rainy weekend, and the twins were at Aunt Kathy's House inside, warm and cozy, while Riley and Madeline were in Aunt Kathy's bedroom pretending to be pirates and looking for treasure

when Riley came across a book and called to her sister. "Maddie, come here and look at what I found—a book that says 'Mommy'."

Madeline's eyes lit up "Open it, Riley, please." Madeline said

Kathy heard the noise and quickly got up from where she was sitting. When she poked her head into her room and saw what was about to happen, her face turned red. She hurried in and said, Girls, no, you aren't old enough. Now go finish your chores or something.

"Oui, Aunt Kathy." Madeline said,

Riley said, Yes, come on, Maddie."

Kathy let out a relieved sigh and closed her bedroom door. Annoyed with the twins that her secret was almost found out.

Little girls

Little girls

Everywhere I turn, I can see them.

Little girls

Little girls

Night and day

I eat, sleep, and breathe them.

I'm an ordinary woman.

With feelings

I'd like a man to nibble on my ear.

But I'll admit

No man has bit

So how come I'm the mother of the year?

How I hate

Little shoes

Little socks

And each little bloomer

I'd have cracked.

Years ago

If it weren't for my

Sense of humor.

Some women are dripping with diamonds.

Some women are dripping with pearls.

Lucky me! Lucky me!

Look at what I'm dripping with.

Little girls.

Little cheeks

Little teeth

Everything around me is small.

If I wring

Little necks

Surely I will get an acquittal.

Some day

I'll step on their freckles.

Some night

I'll straighten their curls.

Send a flood

Send the flu

Anything that You can do

To little little little

Little, little, little.

Little, little, little.

Little Girls.

Kathy then walked into the kitchen, took her Liquor bottle, and went to the bathroom, locking herself inside.

As she took a long sip, she poured the rest into the tub. Oh, Paul, you just weren't fast enough to stop me." as she tore his picture and threw it into the tub as well.

Some day I'll land in the nut house laughing.

With all the nuts and the squirrels tee hee tee hee

There I'll stay.

Tucked away

Until the prohibition of

little girls.

Kathy then came out of the bathroom and went to lie down.

Riley&Madeline The New House"

It's a rainy day in Paris.

Narrator... In an old house in Paris that was covered with Vines lived thirteen little girls, in two straights lines...

They left the house at Half passed nine..

(Ringing)

in rain...

( the hard rain made the shutters of the house Bang really hard.)

or shine.

Ohh oh my

(Girls gasp)

It was so rainy and the wind was so strong that it picked up both Riley and Madeline. The twins laughed and had fun until their umbrellas turned inside out, causing them to fall back to the ground.

Narrator.. the oldest one was Riley, and the smallest one was Madeline.

Miss Clavel Caught both girls saying phew."

(Banging) Wind gusts from the storm blew the window shutter and dropped it to the ground.

Genevieve dragged Miss Clavel (who was still holding the twins) to avoid the falling window shattering.

Chole said Miss Clavel, are you all right"?

Miss Clavel straightened herself up and helped the twins to their feet.

Miss Clavel then said, Oui, I'm fine. and she patted Chole on the head.

Danielle then looked at the cracked window shutter on the ground and said, "C'est terrible."

The man said, "Terrible indeed."

Miss Clavel looked up and said, "Lord Cucuface, what a surprise!"

Lord CucuFace came over and looked at the mess "hmm"

Miss Clavel said, "It is an old shutter that needs fixing. Oh, I see you brought guests."

Lord Cucuface said, "Yes, may I present Madame Anges and Madame Edith from the Historical Society's They had come to tour this Old House."?

Bonjour," the girls said with a curter.

Madame Anges, with a big smile, said, "What darling little girls!"

And so polite as well, Madame Edith said.

Lord Cucuface said, "Please come in."

Miss Clavel said "Oui Oui Certainment".

After hanging up their umbrellas and yellow coats, Miss Clavel and the girls began the tour. As the group was passing the small sitting room, the two Madames saw that many pots and pans were being used to catch drips from the ceiling.

(Dripping)

Madame Edith said, Oh, how quaint

Madame Anges said, ''Oui, how charming!"

Lord Cucuface came up to the two ladies and said, 'Exccusez - Moi, Madames, but this is not the kitchen. Then, looking into the dripping room, Lord CuCuFace also said, Must we have all these pots and pans?" He grumbled

as Mrs. Murphy looked surprised to see the group.

Madame Anges smiled and said, Ah, but every old house has a drip or two, n'est-ce pas?" as A drip landed on Lord Cucuface's head.

The tour continued just fine until the group reached another main hallway.

Narrator.. Then the visit turned into a disaster, staring with a piece of plaster.

Madame Edith was looking at the pictures on the wall when the piece of plaster fell and crumbled on her head.

Madame Edith screamed as the group hurried over to her.

Lord Cucuface said it in embarrassment. A thousand pardons, Madame! Please say you are alright."

Madame Edith said, "Oui, oui, nothing to worry about."

Lord Cucuface said, "Come ladies, I think we should put this off for another day." It seems... However, the ladies wouldn't hear of it.

Madame Edith said, Nonsense, we came to see the house,

making Lord Cucuface sigh. " Ok, let's continue.

Narrator.. The Madame ignored his Lordship's advice,

(two mice Squeak squeak)

Seeing the two mice, the Ladies started to scream. "Get them away, si vous plait?" Madame Edith begged

' Riley and Madeline, however, just picked up their small friends and brought the mice over to the ladies, saying they were nice.

Oui, they won't hurt you at all, Riley said with a big smile.

However, Lord Cucuface didn't agree.

Well, if you're sure, Madame Anges said and was about to pet one of them.

When Lord Cucuface yelled, "Vermin! Shoo shoo shoo shoo shoo go away!" While he was saying that, Lord Cucuface slipped backwards on a puddle, making him fall and bang his head hard on the back of the stove. Ouch,

That had to hurt, Madeline whispered to her sister.

Madame Anges said, "Oh dear, as she and the others brought him to a chair.

Madame Edith said, "Let him rest; we'll see upstairs." Everyone agreed that it was a good idea.

The two mice who had scurried into a pot on the stove peaked over the edge and started squeaking.

(two mice Squeak squeak)

Narrator.. But the tour continued not so well when Madame Edith stepped on a loose piece of floorboard, making her slide down the stair, which also made her crash into Lord Cucuface, who was holding an icepack on his head.

Miss Clavel "Oh dear, oh dear!"

Narrator.. Cried Miss Clavel as she helped her guests stand up. Lord Cucuface thought enough was enough, made up his mide, and announced the sale of the house he thought unfit for the girls.

Lord Cucuface said, "We must find these girls a more suitable place to live."

All the Girls were quiet for a moment, then all of them said, What?"

Madeline said, "We can't leave our dear old house." It has been our home for as long as we can remember.

Miss Clavel said Madeline was right. "I am sure a few nails and roof tiles" could... but she wasn't able to finish.

Lord Cucuface said, "I have made up my mind; start packing, Miss Clavel; this house is too old and too dangerous."

Riley said, "But we love our house."

Nicole said, Where are we going?"

Lord Cucuface said, "Don't worry; there is a lovely apartment above mine where you can stay until I find you a new house."

The group of girls started to moan sadly.

Lord Cucuface said: Come, ladies, let's go.

Madame Edith looked at the sad group of girls and said, "But Lord Cucuface, we have not seen the salon, the parlor, or the?"

Lord Cucuface said, Really, Madame, you have seen quite enough."

Narrator.. Lord Cucuface had made up his mind, leaving thirteen sad girls and their dog behind.

(Genevieve Marie Aroo)

Miss Clavel sighed and said, Come, Mes Petites, we have better start packing," as she led the sad group of girls upstairs.

Narrator.. Meanwhile at Emily's house, both Helen and Matthew are talking with the child welfare people and singing the paper, and the child welfare people have give them permission to take care of the twins on the weekends. Emily had just come home from school when the child welfare peoper were just finishing up.

Mom, Dad "I'm home. Emily called out

"We're in the kitchen, dear." Helen called back.

Emily walked into the kitchen and gave her parents a hug.

After getting a hug from her father, Emily looked up and saw the welfare people. "Mom, Dad, who are these people?" Emily asks because she is very confused.

Narrator.. Helen then explained what's going to happen.

Helen said, Do you remember in the summer when the both of us were going to invite the twins over for dinner and we saw Kathy slap Madeline across the cheek?"

Emily nodded. her head,

Helen then continued, and Kathy hit Madeline again while we were in London.

Emily nodded again.

Also, we saw Kathy pulling the twins by their ears while they were talking to us. Helen said

Emily nodded for the final time.

Helen said, That's why these people are here. We told them everything that we just told you. And they are going to remove the twins from Kathy's house during the weekends.

"I know Kathy can get angry at the twins sometimes, but that's no reason to take them away; she's their aunt. She's family. Emily said.

Narrator.. Matthew takes Emily onto his Lap

"he said I know this is all very confusing, and I know that she is family to the twins. but she has done some bad stuff to the twins recently as well."

"What do you mean, dear?" Helen asked

Mathew said When I was mowing our back lawn a couple of weeks ago, I could see Kathy yelling at the twins, and then she pushed them off the porch.

"Oh my, I hope they weren't hurt badly. Helen said

Mathew said No, I don't think so. But now that we have gotten the go-ahead from child welfare and the OK from Lord CucuFace, we are now able to have the twins stay with us on weekends or if any emergencies come up where the girls have to go somewhere other than as a school group.

Emily finally understood. "So if the twins come and stay with us, I'll get to be a temporary big sister?

Matthew said, Yes, my love.

Emily says I can't wait.

Helen said yes.

Meanwhile, back at the old house

Narrator.. Moving is tiresome. Moving is hard. they piled up everything they own in the yard.

Mrs. Murphy brought out her gray trunk! ohh ooh!

(Genevieve Marie Ruff Ruff)

Mrs. Murphy sighed.

Narrator..Mewhin in the girl's bedroom, the girls packed their clothes, school books, and Ball, when that was done, Madeline and Riley said goodbye to the mice in the hall.

Madeline said, Goodbye, Messieurs Mice!''

"We will never forget you two," Riley said, as tears fell from her and Madeline's eyes.

(Mice Squeaking)

Riley wiped away her tears and looked at her still-crying sister.

Sighing, Riley said, Maddie, please, we still have each other. Come on."

Narrator.. But the hardest farewell they had in store was to Steven and Pepito their friends next door.

The two brothers who lived next door were shocked to find out that the news was true.

Pepito ran to Madeline and said, "So it is true, you are moving. Oh, please tell me this is a joke."

All thirteen girls started to cry. Big tears falling from their eyes.

Madeline "Oui Pepito, it is true."

Steven said, "Far away, like London?" Remembering the time he and Pepito moved to London.

Riley said, No, just across town."

Pepito's face lit up when he heard that, and he said, "Then we will come and visit."

Madeline said, "You will?"

Steven said, Si, and we can write every day." Please give us your address."

Madeline smiled and wrote down the address on her notepad.

Riley said, "Mais Oui every day, here boys."

Miss Clavel said, "Riley! Madeline!" time to go

Madeline and her sister looked up.

Narrator.. The moment had come, and no one was glad, with Riley and Madeline feeling especially sad.

It took three taxis to get everything loaded up.

All girls: "Au revoir, Pepito and Steven!"

Pepito said, "Goodbye girls!"

Steven said, "Hasta luego, Riley and Madeline."

Narrator.. As the taxis departed in one sad straight line, Pepito and Steven were sadly sitting on the stoop of the front door. when Lord Cucuface then drove and walked up.

"Excuse me, boys," he said as he put up a House 'condemned' sign. And walked off.

Steven gasped and said, "Danger house condemned. Do not enter?"

Pepito said, "Ay ay! He is going to tear down the old house; we will never see our friends again for us now, Steven."

Steven said, Pepito, calm down; I have a plan."

Narrator.. In the meantime, the taxis all drove thought the city to a street where the houses was square and not pretty.

Finally, the taxis stopped in front of a large gray building.

Danielle asked, "Is this where we are to live?" as she and the girls walked into the apartment and to the elevator.

Ms. Murphy went inside to sign the paperwork and meet the managers.

The managers looked over all the papers that Ms. Murphy had given them. Well, Madam, everything seems to be alright, but we do see that there are twins living with the others.

Mrs. Murphy didn't like where this was leading.

The managers said one of our rules is that there are no twins allowed.

The second manager agreed. Yes, twins just cause a huge problem for everyone. So we think it would be better if these twins were separated.

Mrs. Murphy was shocked. But I said sorry, but they are twin sisters, so if you separate the twines, one of them will be sent back to their aunt. Their Aunt is abusive because I saw bruises on them. So I'm sorry, but I'm not going to separate the two sisters.

But One of the managers said angrily: "But It's our rule, and all the rules must be followed.

Ms. Murphy turned around and looked at the managers. " Well, if you saw the abuse that has been done to those little girls, I'm sure you would understand where I'm coming from. Ms. Murphy said it sternly. And she walked out of the manager's office.

Ms. Murphy then joined the rest of the group at the elevator.

Miss Clavel said, Remember, little girls, it is always hard to move." On the wall was a sign with the rules of the building.

Riley said, ''Oh dear, look at all these rules: no bikes, no Rolling skates, no loud music, no cats, no dogs, no wagon, no running, and no jumping rope. Hey, what gives? This is no fun. No wonder there are no Kids around."

Miss Clavel said, Just because things are different does not mean they are bad, Riley."

Madeline said, "But Miss Clavel, it says no barking dogs are allowed."

Nicole said, "Genevieve Marie isn't a dog. She is just Genevieve."

(Genevieve Woof)

Narrators. .But that sight was no mor, then the first induction

Narrator: But that sight was no more, and then the first induction

(Genevieve Aroo)

Narrator.. that the flat would not live up to their exception, at night they tried to break their bread.

Madeline said, Riley, you are on my side of the table."

Riley said, No, I am not Maddie; you are on mine."

Girls: "We love our bread, we love our butter, but most of all, we love our old house." The girls whined. Genevieve whimpered as she agreed as well.

The bathroom was so tiny.

Narrator.. And tried to brush their teeth.

Chloe said, "There is not enough room."

Riley said, "I can't brush my teeth."

Narrator.. And go to bed.

All the girls said Cots."

Genevieve whimpered

Riley said, Maddie, is it too late to call Aunt Kathy and ask her to come and get us?"

Madeline, who usually agrees with her sister, are you nuts. Riley will have a fit if we call her.

Then What about Emily? I'm sure she would be happy to let us spend the night. Riley said.

I would love that as well, but I haven't found Emily's phone number yet. Madeline said it tiredly.

Well, I'm sure we can look it up. Riley said

Madeline yawn. Riley, just go to sleep. We can look for Emily's number in the morning.

"Fine." Riley said as she and Madeline finally fell asleep.

Narrator.. But there was more to complain about in the kitchen, which made Mrs. Murphy pout.

Ms. Murphy Ah, finally, everything is put away. Just then the cabinet door flew open, making everything come crashing down upon her.

Hearing the crash, Madeline, Riley, Miss Clavel, and the rest of the girls came running into the kitchen.

"Are you alright, Mrs. Murphy?" Madeline asked.

The cook nodded. Yes, I'm alright.

'Well, that's good." Miss Clavel said

The teacher then handed the cook a letter. "The postman just delivered this for you. Miss Clavel said

Merci, Miss Clavel. Mrs Murphy said

As Miss Clavel led the girls out of the kitchen,

Mrs. Murphy opened the letter, which read: This is your final warning! If you don't do something about those twins, then we will be forced to call the police!

Ms. Murphy sighed angrily. "I must do something about those twins. I can't let the police take them, and I can't call their aunt, who knows what she may do to the girls. Mrs. Murphy thought to herself for a moment. She then remembered I know one person the Girls talk about. She then got up and made her way to the telephone.

Meanwhile, Madeline and Riley were exploring the rest of the apartment.

Riley then found a mouse hole in the wall and said, Look, sis, maybe this mouse is a relative to the ones back home.

Madeline said, Bonjour, Little Mice, Bonjour."

Mice stick out their tongues.

Madeline said, "Well!"

Narrator.. And the mice made Madeline want to shout.

This mouse is very rude. Madeline said.

I agree. Riley said.

As she and Madeline headed outside.

As the girl went to play catch on the balcony outside,

Riley said, "Catch Genevieve Marie."

Genevieve jumped up, trying to catch the ball, but it soared over her and fell off over the railing.

Narrator.. And for a dog, life could be hard without a grassy, large backyard. the girls all looked at one another and sighed as they walked back inside, commenting.

Madeline said, "This place is terrible."

Nicole said, "I hate it."

Chloe said, "How can we live here?"

Danielle said, "I want to go home."

Ms. Murphy said, "What an impossible kitchen!"

Miss Clavel said, Please, please, s'il te plaît, this is our home now, and we should be thankful to be here together."

But it's so small that Riley started to complain.

Miss Clavel then started to sing.

Home is not about being large; Home is not about being small.

Home isn't the color of the paint on the wall.

Home is not about the old,

Home is not about the new.

Home is having the ones you love close to you.

Miss Clavel and the Girls

Home is where the heart is.

The heart is the heart.

Home is where the heart is.

If your heart is there, it's home.

Miss Clavel

Home is not about the rich,

Home is not about the poor.

Home isn't the carpet you put on the floor.

You don't need a marble staircase in each room.

You just need a clean place to hum a nice tune.

Miss Clavel and the Girls

Home is where the heart is.

the heart, the heart is

Home is where the heart is.

If your heart is there

It's

Home is where the heart is.

the heart is,

the heart is.

Home is where the heart is.

If your heart is there, if your heart is there, if your heart is there

That's home.

Miss Clavel smiled at her students and said, "Enough complaining, let us go for a walk.

(Girls are talking excitedly.)

Looking at her watch, she gasped, My my, look at the time!"

Narrator.. there was no bell to troll the times, so they missed their walked at half past nine instead they left at ten till three to find a park and climbed a things, but things did not go as expected with a truck and Genevieve almost connected, and the park was really quite neglected.

The girls started playing and having fun, but it annoyed the other people.

Old Man said you kids

The lady said, "Get down from there!"

The man said, That's not nice!"

The lady said, "Stop it, and marched up angrily to Ms. Clavel, demanding, Are you responsible for these horrid children?" The lady then recognized the twins, and she gasped. Then pointing the twins out to the man. The man's face quickly turned to anger. The man then said: Kathy will hear about this.

Miss Clavel said, Madam, I am sorry if the little girls are bothering you; they are only being little girls. Clapping her hands to get the girl's attention, the girls got into their two straight lines. Come, mes enfants, we will find another park."

Chloe said, "Let us go somewhere else."

Nicole said, Oui, where there are swings!"

Danielle said, "And merry go round."

Riley said, And Monkey bars."

Madeline said, "And friendly people."

Genevieve growls.

The man said, "Ah dog! I hate dogs!"

Narrator.. so they want back home to the balcony to play, but were in for another shock late that day.

Madeline threw the ball to Chloe, but she missed, and the ball landed on the next balcony.

Madeline called and said, "Excusez- moi s'il vous plait, could we have our ball back?"

The girls were shocked, as their neighbor was none other than the grouchy man from the park.

The man said, "You horrible children! When did you move in here?"

Genevieve barked and growled as the man gasped and threw the ball back.

Hearing the noise from the other side, the Grouchy Lady (Also from the park) Stepped outside and said, "What is that awful racket? ' Gasp! This can't be; there must be a rule about too many noisy little girls! Two little girls! There is a rule that no twins can be in the same household!" With that, she walked back inside to go call the manager.

The group of girls gasped and hurried back inside.

Where Miss Clavel was hanging the picture of the girls meeting Riley and Madeline as it was their first day at the old house.

Nicole said, "Miss Clavel, Miss Clavel?"

Danielle said, "That snooty woman from the park!"

Chloe said, "The grouchy man?"

Miss Clavel said, Oui, what about them?"

All the girls said, "They are neighbors!"

Madeline then said "The lady and Riley and I can't stay here as we are twins.

Miss Clavel said, "Oh dear."

Riley said, "I know we will have them for tea."

Madeline said, Oui, then they will see we are good neighbors."

Nicole said, Oui, what a good idea!"

Chloe said, "How can they not like us?"

Riley said, Yes, that's true." Come one, let's start planning.

Narrator.. The next day, at four, the girls give a tea their china was shiny with bright FLUR - DE -LIS.

''Mrs. Murphy came out, offering the refreshments. "Would you care for a biscuit, perhaps a pastry?"

The lady took the teacup, wiped it, and then took a small pastry.

Genevieve came over with a napkin.

A man said, "You let the dog touch your linens? Disgusting, a healthy inflection surely."

Genevieve whimpered.

Chole said, "Shush Genevieve Marie, He is very rude."

The lady then screamed. "Ah ah! A flea! A flea in the food? That is it; I am leaving before I am poisoned!" The two adults got up and left, slamming the door behind them.

Miss Clavel looked at the tart and said, Wait, is it an almond look?"

Narrator.. They knew their tea had not gone right as both guest took flight, poor Genevieve was the most contrite.

Madeline said, "It is not your fault, Genevieve Marie; they are horrid neighbors.''

Riley said, "Maddie is right, Genevieve Marie; you are the best dog."

Chloe said, "Why are they so mean to Genevieve?"

Nicole said, "She is such a wonderful dog."

Meanwhile, in the office The lady and the man were complaining to the manager.

The manager, Shelly, said, I know about the twins, and we have issued every warning to the housekeeper, but she won't budge."

I know. The lady said

Just then the phone rang. "Excuse me." After a moment, she hung up and turned to listen to the two adults again. That was the twin's aunt, and she was not happy.

Lady said Good Then she did get the message.

Shelly said, "Don't worry, Kathy said that she'll be by tonight.

The man said, "But we can't wait any longer; serve them the papers now, please.

The manager nodded and gave the man and woman the papers.

Back at the door.

Miss Clavel said, "Now who could that be? It was the two adults with a stack of papers. "What is this? What are all these signatures?"

The lady said, "Everyone in the building has signed this petition requesting that."

The man said, "The girls must be absolutely silent.''

Lady said, "And that dangerous menace must go, and the manager, Shelly, agreed with this paper requesting that the twins be split up; no two twins can be under the same roof. Your housekeeper knows about it."

The group of girls and even Ms. Clavel were shocked and looked at Ms. Murphy with a sad look.

Ms. Murphy said, "She is right, Miss Clavel; I hate to do this, but Riley and Madeline can't stay here. If they do, they could be taken by the police.

Riley and Madeline were shocked, but they didn't want to get into trouble.

Mrs. Clavel sighed sadly. And said, "Alright girls, go and pack.

Riley said, Oui, Ms. Clavel, as she went to the bedroom to go pack, with Madeline following behind her.

Miss Clavel sighed and was about to shut the door when the postman handed her a letter. Opening it up, she quickly scanned the letter.

Miss Clavel said, Whoa, oh no."

Madeline came back into the room. As Miss Clavel handed the letter to her.

Madeline said, "It is from Pepito and Steven. Gasping, she called Riley. Come back here now, please."

Riley said, Maddie, what happened?

Madeline handed the letter to her sister to read. No, Lord Cucuface can't do that to all of us.

Nicole said, "What does it say?"

Danelle said, "Tell us girls."

Riley said, "They are tearing down our Old house; for sure, me and Madeline will never see each other again." Riley said as she and Madeline started to cry.

Miss Clavel said that can't be

Narrator.. It was true. The old boarding school was the only place where there was enough room for the twins to stay toghter. But Steven and Pepito's new was alas sadly true, the old house they called home would meet the wreckage crew.

All the girls cried, ''This is horrible; how can they tear down our old house?"

Riley and Madeline then walked into the room with their suitcases in hand.

Just then, there was a knock on the door.

Madeline said, "I guess this is goodbye,"

As Ms. Clavel led Aunt Kathy inside.

Hello, Miss Clavel! I've come to collect my nieces.

Riley and Madeline gulped and quickly ran out of the room. Miss Clavel sighed.

However, Mrs. Murphy said, "Don't worry, Miss Clavel. I called Hellen, and she's coming with the welfare people, so the twins will stay with her.

Miss Clavel sighed in relief and said, Okay, I'll try to stall Kathy.

Clearing her throat, Miss Clavel said Why, Kathy, you came all this way; why don't you sit down and have a cup of tea?

Kathy narrowed her eyes at Miss Clavel, but she sat down, and the 11 little girls sat down as well.

Meanwhile, Miss Clavel gave Kathy her tea and then hurried to the bedroom. Madeline and Riley were sitting on the cot, hugging each other. Their faces were white.

Miss Clavel quickly came over and sat down next to the twins.

" Madeline looked up and said it in a fearful voice. Oh, Miss Clavel, please don't make us go with Aunt Kathy.

Yes, Please don't make us go with her." Riley agreed.

As bigger tears flowed down the girls faces. Miss Clavel gathered the twins in her arms and hugged them close to her.

The teacher said, Aw, don't cry, my loves. Do you remember when we were in London and I was talking to Emily's mother?"

The twins sniffed and nodded.

Well, Miss Clavel said, "Helen and I agreed that you are both not safe when you stay with your aunt, so Helen and I talked it over, and she thinks of you two like daughters and cares about the both of you. So now You both will be staying with Emily and her family over the weekends.

The twins looked at each other. Really, Miss Clavel?" Madeline asked.

Oui, my little one. Miss Clavel, she said as she wiped the tears from the twin's eyes.

Just then Mrs. Murphy poked her head into the room and said, "Helen, her husband, Emily, and the child welfare people are here.

Miss Clavel got up and took Madeline and Riley's hands. "Don't worry, twins."

Madeline and Riley sighed and grabbed their suitcases. Walking into the parlor,

The twins looked nervously at their aunt.

Ah, There you are, twins. Are you ready to go? Kathy asked

The child welfare man stepped forward and said Excuse me, Madame, But these two little girls are going to stay with the McDowell's for now.

Kathy was shocked. "WHAT?! " Oh no, the twins are my responsibility.

"I'm sorry, Madame Another welfare worker said, We have received many complaints about you being abusive.

"But.. But I would never hurt the girls. I love them." Kathy said

Helen sighed. a funny way of showing love.

"If you don't agree, you will be going to jail. The welfare man said

Kathy huffed and said, Oh, all right, the twins can stay with you for this week only, but next week they'll be back with me."

Oh, we will see about that, Matthew muttered.

The twins smiled at last.

Miss Clavel then came over to Helen and said, "Please take good care of the girls."

" Helen smiled and said, Don't worry, Miss Clavel, the twins will be safe with us.

Miss Clavel nodded and then kneeled down in front of the twins and said Madeline and Riley, I want you two to be on your best behavior, alright?

Oui, Miss Clavel." Madeline said

Miss Clavel hugged the twins tightly and kissed them. "We will see you soon."

Madeline and Riley nodded.

Kathy just huffed angrily. And quickly left.

Riley said, "See you soon, mon amies.

Take Care of Genevieve Marie, alright? Madeline said.

Chloe said, We will, Riley, don't worry."

The twins then left with Emily's family. "Climbing into the car,"

Emily said. "This is going to be so much fun."

Madeline and Riley said yes together.

"I just hope we won't be too much trouble for you, Mr. and Mrs. McDowell. Madeline said it a little nervously.

"I'm sure you two won't be any trouble at all. Helen said. Matthew has made the guest room into a lovely bedroom for the two of you. And I've talked to Miss Clavel and Lord CuCuFace, and you two will be going with Emily to her school. For the week.

" Riley's eyes were winded. Wow, we will get to see what a public school is like."

Yes, said Emily, my teacher, Mrs. Cookie, already knows what is going on.

Madeline and Riley smiled. When the girls got to Emily's house, Helen and Matthew took the twins upstairs to the guestroom. Madeline and Riley looked around at the brightly colored room.

Well, what do you think?" Emily asked.

The twins smiled.

"We love it." Riley said.

"I'm so glad, Matthew said. Now why don't you three girls go and play?"

"Oui We will call you when dinner is ready. Helen said.

Ok, all three children said.

The three children ran out of the room, laughing.

Oh, one more thing, girls. "Madeline, Riley, what is your favorite food?" Heled asked

"Riley and I like anything." Madeline told Helen.

"Alright," Helen said.

Come on, twins, we can go play on my swing set.

All three girls ran out of the room again, laughing.

A few hours later, Helen and Matthew called the three children inside for dinner.

" After washing up. Madeline and Riley sat down at the table.

"I hope you two like pizza." Matthew said as he placed five plates down in front of the table.

"Merci McDowell. Riley said.

Oh, please just call me Matthew." Matthew told the twins,

" Okay, Madeline said

Emily was about to start eating

when Riley said "Excuse us, but Maddie and I always say a prayer before we eat.

" Okay, Helen said we don't usually pray, but if you two would like to go ahead, we don't mind.

" Merci, Mrs. Helen. Bowing their heads, the twins said their usual prayer.

We love our bread.

We love our butter, but most of all, we love each other.

The twins looked up and said, Now we eat.

Everyone then started eating. After dinner, Emily took the twins upstairs to her room to play while Helen and Matthew cleaned up.

After that, Helen came up and said, "Do you two usually take baths at the school?"

Well, with there being thirteen of us, Miss Clavel gives us baths every two weeks."

I see what Helen said. Well, would it be alright if I gave you two a bath tonight?

Madeline and Riley looked at each other.

"Sure." Riley said.

Okay, I'll go start the water. Helen said " Emily, why don't you show the girls where we keep the towels?"

Yes, Mom," Emily said. After Madeline and Riley each picked out a fluffy towel,

Emily asked. Well, what do you think so far?"

"Everything is wonderful." Madeline said.

After a warm bath, it was time for bed. Madeline and Riley brushed their teeth and then said goodnight to Emily. The twins then got into bed in the guestroom.

Madeline and Riley looked around. "This is so much bigger than our room at Aunt Kathy's. Riley said.

"Oui," Madeline said.

Just then, there was a knock on the bedroom door.

"Come in Riley called. Matthew and Helen entered the room.

"I wanted to come make sure you two were doing alright. Mathew said.

We're fine. Madeline said.

" Helen came over and gave both Madeline and Riley a hug. And then she handed the twins two little dolls. We hope you both have a good night's sleep, and we will see you in the morning. Helen said. Also, Matthew and I know you have a blue school uniform. And we talked with the principal, and he allowed you to wear your school uniform tomorrow.

The twins nodded.

"Goodnight girls. Matthew said "

Madeline and Riley yawned, "Goodnight."

The two parents then turned out the light and closed the door.

Madeline and Riley both fell asleep.

The next morning, Emily came into the guest room. "Madeline, Riley, it's time for school."

The twins yawned, sat up, and stretched.

"Good morning, Emily." Riley said.

Yes, good morning." "My mom says it's time to get ready. Emily said

Alright, we will be down in a moment. Madeline said.

The twins then got up and got dressed. After that, all three girls headed downstairs.

"Good morning, twins. Helen said.

"Good morning, Miss Helen. "

Are you three ready to go?" Mathew asked?

"I think so," Riley said, but what about breakfast?"

Well, I was thinking as a special treat we would stop for donuts on the way." Mathew said

Really, dad, oh thank you? Emily said.

Yes, thank you." Madeline and Riley said

Well, then let's get going." Mathew said.

"Here are your lunches. Hellen handed the girls a brown paper bag.

"Merci." The twins said it together.

Then, taking each other's hands, the three children walked out to the car. After stopping for donuts.

Madeline asked, "What is your school like, Emily?"

Well, it's not very big, but it's nice enough." Emily said.

Alright, Riley said.

When they got to Emily's school, Riley and Madeline stood in front of the building, holding each other's hands, their mouths wide open.

"This is much bigger than the old house, Madeline said.

" Oui, I agree, sis." Riley said.

"Don't worry, you two; I'll be with you every step of the way. Emily you are my little sisters after all.

Madeline and Riley took a deep breath and followed Emily inside. The twins looked around at everything. When they reached Emily's classroom,

Emily led them to the teacher's desk. "Good morning, Miss Cookie. These are my two friends, Madeline and Riley."

Miss Cookie looked at the twins and smiled. Hello, you two! Welcome to our school! I'm very happy to have you both in my classroom. Miss Cookie said

"Merci." Madeline and Riley said it with a curtsey.

Miss Cookie smiled. "You two can go have a seat next to Emily.

The twins nodded. Madeline and Riley took their seats, and the bell rang soon

after. Miss Cookie stood at the front of the room and said, "Good morning, everyone. Before we begin, I would like to welcome two new students who will be staying with us for a week or two." Madeline and Riley, would you both like to tell the class a little bit about yourselves?"

The twins stood up, and Madeline, taking a deep breath, said Bonjour, my name is Madeline, and I'm six years old and a little nervous and excited to be here. Madeline then quickly sat back down

as the rest of the children clapped.

Riley was next. Bonjour, my name is Riley, and I'm also six years old. Madeline is my twin sister. Riley then sat down as well.

" Thank you, girls. Now let's begin. Miss Cookie said

"Great job, you two." Emily whispered.

Madeline and Riley just smiled. After a reading lesson, it was time for lunch.

Madeline and Riley were shocked at how big and noisy the lunchroom was.

After lunch, It was time for recess. Madeline and Riley had fun playing on the playground.

Finally, it was time to go home. "So how did you like going to public school? Helen asked.

"It's different but fun." Madeline said

That whole week, Madeline and Riley went to school with Emily. Finally, it was the weekend.

That morning at breakfast, Helen said we were going to meet Miss Clavel and the rest of the girls at the park.

" Madeline and Riley smiled. They liked staying with Helen, Matthew, and Emily, but the twins did miss their friends and Clavel. After breakfast, Helen drove the girls to the park. When they got there, they saw Miss Clavel Waiting for them. Madeline and Riley ran to their teacher.

"Madeline, Riley, how are you two doing? We've all missed you." Miss Clavel asked, hugging the twins.

"It's been fun." Madeline said.

Oui, the twins have been a joy to have. "Wonderful. " Helen said as she watched Madeline and Riley run off to play with their friends. Emily followed behind them. After playing for an hour,

Miss Clavel told the 14 girls to get ready for their walk. Emily joined the group as well.

While walking, Riley asked, "Any news about our old house?

Nicole sadly said no; it's still going to be torn down.

Miss Clavel heard this and said: "Little girls, I know you are sad about our poor Old House.

Narrator.. In two straight lines they prayed to stall that horrid dredging wrecking ball.

Danielle's image used a slingshot.

Chloe's image was driving away with the Old House.

Genevieve's image was digging dirt.

Narrator.. the place that would restore their calm was the Cathedral of Notre Dame.

Chloe said, "Madeline! Madeline, Look, it is Notre Dame."

Madeline said, Oui, I see, but why is it covered with scaffolding?"

Miss Clavel said, "It is so old that they must fix it all the time so it can remain beautiful."

Nicole said, "Ah, ouie.

Madeline said, Je comprends.

Chloe said, "It is beautiful."

Yes, we learned about Notre Dame at school. Riley said

Emily said that is right Riley

Danielle said, Look at the Lady from the Historical Society."

Narrator.. see those ladies' with their hair all blue give Madeline a notional of what they could do.

Madeline said, "Of course."

Danielle said, What, Madeline?"

Chloe said, ''What is it?"

Madeline said, "Miss Clavel! Miss Clavel! She whispered the plan."

Miss Clavel said "Mais oui, a brilliant idea, Madeline".

Miss Clavel told Helen the plan.

Helen smiled happily. I'll ask My husband to help as well.

Narrators at the old house, the clock was ticking as the workman prepared the dear Maison for wrecking.

(Two mice squeak.)

Steven ran up in front of the house and said, "No stop! This is a mistake."

Pepito said, "You have the wrong house; we are sure of it!"

Hannah said, "Pepito? Steven?"

Pepito said, "Mama, Mama, Mama! We must stop them! We must!"

Hannah picked the two boys up.

Steven said, "Stop! You must not do this, por favor! Please, please listen!"

The worker was just about to swing the wrecking ball once again.

Lord Cucuface opened the door and said, "Stop!"

Narrator.. The cane operator felt very befuddled when he saw all the folk in a huddle.

Lord Cucuface "The good ladies of the Historical Society have made me see the value of this old house; we should not destroy it, we should restore it."

All the girls said, "Hooray, Yay, Yippee!"

Narrator.. And to add to the confusion, Madame produced a resolution.

Madame Anges read, "We designate this old house an historic site of Paris."

Narrator... of Madeline's persistence and the lady's fine assistance, their dear old house would stay in existence.

Everyone cheered and clapped.

Miss Clavel said, "We still have quite a lot of work to do, do we not?"

Madame Anges said, "Quite right, Miss Clavel; quite right as she whistled."

Around the corner came a bunch of workers who immediately got to work. Matthew was among the workers, and he smiled down at his wife, daughter, and the twins.

Narrator.. A twist of the screwdriver tightened the knob, and then a few squirts of oil finished the job. then they fixed the pipes that leaked and the many stair that squeaked, while their smallest helper peeked. Mewhile, the other eleven girls stayed at the apartment, Madeline and Riley stayed with Emily, Helen, and Matthew..

A few days later...

Narrator.. Finally, it was the day they could move back in Hooray!

The 11 little girls stood in front of their restored house. A few minutes later, Madeline and Riley were dropped off as well.

"Thank you so much for looking after the twins. Miss Clavel said

Helen smiled. They are two awesome little girls. Call me anytime you need them to stay."

Madeline and Riley thanked Helen and Emily and told them that they would see them soon.

After Helen drove away, Riley and Madeline looked at the house.

Riley said, "It is beautiful."

Madeline said, Oui, it is, but Miss Clavel, can we have donuts for breakfast tomorrow, please?"

Matthew said, Oh boy, it looks like the twine got hooked.

Chole was shocked and said to Madeline You and Riley had donuts.

The twins nodded.

Can we Miss Clavel, please? Chole asked

Miss Clavel said very well, Little girls.

Madame Anges said, "It's magnifier, and it is all thanks to you, Madeline."

Madame Edith said, "If you had not warned us that this house was in danger, it would now be a heap of rubble." Lord Cucuface then drove up and got out of his limo.

Lord Cucuface said, "It is fabulous; it is better than I had imagined." I had a surprise and showed the group a picture of a crumbling house. I am thinking of buying it. It is a beautifully old house, and I am tired of my apartment and my neighbor." Lord Cucuface didn't tell the group that he had to pay a big fine for having thirteen girls break a big rule.

Danielle said, Oui."

Madeline said, "Very nice."

Chloe said, 'Lovely."

Nicole said, "Ellet est tras belle.

Riley said, "We'll help you fix it."

Dainelle said, Oh, it will be so much fun.

Lord Cucuface said, "Yes, it will be magnified just like this old house."

After everything was said and done, everyone went inside for dinner.

Narrator.. And then at last, they broke their bread.

Girls: "We love our bread, we love our butter, but most of all, we love each other and our old house."

Miss Clavel said, Oh, little girls, a house is only a house, but with all of you here, it is truly a home."

Narrator.. They brushed their teeth and went to bed.

Miss Clavel said, "Good night, mes petites; I know you will sleep well.''

"Good night, good night, Dear Miss Clavel.'' All the girls said

Narrator.. they dreamed of what they would next restore, and that's all there is isn't anymore.
