It was winter in Paris. One day the girls were playing at the park. Madeline and Riley's friend Emily and her mom had joined them as well.
"So has everything been alright with the twins? Helen (Emily's mom) asked. Miss clavel
"Oui the child welfare group came by a few days ago to check up on the twins as well and I told them that i'm going to be taking all the girls on our annual winter vacation to visit my aunt Hilda." Miss Clavel said
"Were they alright with that?" Helen asked.
Miss Clavel nodded. As long as we're back by three weeks they agreed. Miss Clavel said.
Helen nodded. After a few minutes Miss Clavel called to the girls that it was time to go. After the girls got into their two straight lines,
Madeline and Riley said. "We will see you in three weeks Emily.
"Have a great trip girls and I can't wait to hear about it when you get back. Emily said.
"Merci." The 13 girls said. As soon as they got home Madeline and Riley couldn't wait for their winter vacation to begin.
Riley and Madeline's winter vacation
Narrator: In an old house in Paris that was covered with Vines lived thirteen little girls, in two straights lines.
"Allons-y little girls! Hurry." Miss Clavel called from the front gate.
Narrator : They left the house at Half passed nine in two straights lines.
Just then a voice called out.
"Wait for us; we are coming too!" Steven said
"Oh, we would never forget you two, Steven and Pepito, our favorite neighbors!" Miss Clavel said with a smile and chuckle.
Narrator : Miss Clavel got everyone in line. she then did a final count but was confused when she only counted 12 children.
Miss Clavel counted again and said, "We are missing Riley and Madeline!"
"Don't worry we're coming Riley said as she and Madeline ran out the door and got in line with everyone.
Narrator : when it came to being right on time no one could beat Riley and Madeline.
Riley said, "Genevieve Marie says we had better hurry!"
Everyone Giggled and filed into the taxi that was waiting.
Narrator : on the first day of their winter vacation, the girls Steven and Pepito, dash to the train station.
(Genevieve Marie Ruff)
Narrator : the taxi drive got them there without a moment left to spear.
Miss Clavel said, to the group of children. "How fortunate we are that my Aunt Hilda has invited us to visit her in the Alps so all of you should be on your best behavior !"
The children nodded.
Riley said, "Oui, then she asked, Miss Clavel, you told us that your aunt lives in a chalet?"
"Oui Riley that's right. Miss Clavel said with a nod.
Chloe said, "Is a chalet like a castle?"
Miss Clavel said, "No mes petites, a chalet is—well, you shall see for yourself, regardé!"
(Genevieve Marie Ruff Ruff Ruff)
Miss Clavel gave their tickets to the conductor and the group climbed onto the train and settled down into a compartment.
Narrator : Giddy with anticipation, each traveler's imagination designed a wonderous destination.
Madeline said it's a good thing Emily loaned us her Ice Skates.
Riley nodded and said "Oui we must remember to thank her when we get back."
Steven and Pepito said "Hmm I hope we will be able to go skiing !"
Chloe and Nicole said, "We can't wait to build a snowman!"
As the group of children chatted with one another, the train chugged along.
Miss Clavel thought and imagined herself sitting in front of a nice warm fire, where it was quiet and she watched the group out a window.
Chloe smiled and said, "The mountain will be white with snow."
Nicole said, Oui, tons, and tons of it!"
As the sun started to set everyone broke their bread.
While they were eating The two brothers looked at one another and put the trick they were forming into action.
Steven said, "But too much snow can be very dangerous.
Pepito said, "Very dangerous."
Nicole said, "How can beautiful snow be dangerous?"
Chole said "Oui it's so soft and fun to play in.
Steven said, "Snow monsters!"
All the girls gasped and said, "Monsters?"
Narrator: Steven and Pepito told of a creature that could be captured by no man, a ghostly giant called the abominable snowman, which sent a chill down every spine; it even frightened Madeline who whimpered as her body started to shake. Riley however wasn't impressed as she helped comfort her sister and gave the two brothers a harsh look.
Miss Clavel gave the two brothers a harsh look as well. The teacher told them sternly, "Steven Pepito, stop this talk. Monsters are not real."
Riley said, "Oui, no more of this scary stuff!"
Miss Clavel then pulled the window shade down and said, "Now little ones, please try to get some rest; you have a big day ahead of you!"
Madeline yawned and tiredly said "Oui we must have enough energy to be able to play in the snow tomorrow.
The girls then leaned against one another and fell asleep.
…
The next morning
(Brakes squeal)
Miss Clavel said, "At last, regardé! We are here."
The group got off the train and looked around.
Danielle said, "There is hardly any snow."
(In unison) "We wanted snow!"
Madeline looked at Riley and chuckled as he told her sister. "At least Steven' and Pepito's abominable snowman did not come to meet us!"
Riley laughed
Pepito heard that as well and told the twins "Not yet!"
Bells were heard and the girls looked confused.
Chloe said, "Does the abdominal snowman wear bells?"
Miss Clavel smiled and said, "Ah! Here, my nephew Hans!"
Hans said, "Guten tag girls, good day, Aunt Clara!"
The children watched as Miss Clavel greeted her nephew with a big hug.
Miss Clavel said, "Bonjour Hans! My how you have grown!"
Hans said, "My grandmother is so anxious to see you!"
"Oui I'm sure she is." Then turning to her students Miss Clavel said "Children say hello to my Nephew Hans.
All the girls, Steven and Pepito as well, greeted Hans with a hearty Bonjour. Then they asked in unison "Will it snow?"
Hans laughed, and said "You will have to ask my grandmother." She has a way of knowing if it will snow or not."
The children giggled and got comfy in the carriage.
Narrator: In a bumpy old carriage, they Admired the view; the mountains were snow capped, and the sky was oh so blue.
The group was amazed at the sight.
Riley said, Look at a little goat up on that mountain!"
Hans "Yodel-lay-hee-hoo!
Steven said, Hans, is something stuck in your throat?"
Miss Clavel said, "No, Steven, Hans is yodeling."
Hans yells, "Yodel-lay-hee-hoo!" Yodel- lay-hee-hoo!
(Echoing) "Yodel-lay-hee-hoo!
Madeline said, "I think this goat likes your yodeling, Hans!"
(Echoing) "Yodel-lay-hee-hoo!
Hans "Yodel-lay-hee-" Yodel- lay-hee-hoo!
(Echoing)
"Yodel- lay-hee-!
"Yodel- lay-hee-hoo!
Narrator: Hans yodeling was so loud.
Hans " "Yodel-lay-hee-hoo!" Yodel- lay-hee-hoo!
Narrator: He attracted quite a crowd of other yodelers along the path. Not much later in the day, the group arrived at the chalet.
Miss Clavel said, "Dear Aunt Hilda and the two of them hugged.
Willkommen! Welcome, Aunt Clara, welcome children, come in!"
After getting unpacked the group went downstairs where Aunt Hilda told Story after story.
Madeline said, "That was a good story, Aunt Hilda; tell us another!"
Pepito said, "Si, tell us about the abominable snowman!"
Miss Clavel said, "Now Steven and Pepito."
Chloe said, "Have you even seen the abdominal snowman?"
Aunt Hilda winked and said, Why, of course!"
Miss Clavel said, "Aunt Hilda please!
Aunt Hilda ignored the remark and continued "One winter I was out at the woodshed when I heard a strange sound."
All the kids said, "Ohh!"
Hilda said, "I turned around and found a snow-covered giant staring straight at me!"
All the girls said, "Ohh!"
They were now perked with interest
Madeline said, "Did you scream?"
Hilda said, "Ja, I screamed because he was standing on my toes!"
Riley said, Then what did he do?"
Hilda said, "He ran way, and ever since that day I know by that toe that it is going to snow."
Miss Clavel said, with a laugh Oh, Aunt Hilda, your imagination is as good as Steven and Pepito!"
Narrator: Then Aunt Hilda's toes felt suddenly warm.
Aunt Hilda said, "I think we are in for a monstrous storm."
The girls hoped that was true.
Hans turned on the static radio (Static) Radio."Snow storm warning: Buzzard is moving in tonight; repeat snow storm alert; snow will accumulate up to two feet in the mountain arcs."
All the girls, cried out in delight "Snow we will have snow!"
Hilda said, "Let us hope there is not too much."
Narrator: Later, the children ate gingerbread, brushed their teeth, and went to bed, but as they settled down the girls thought they heard some monster peeps, and no one could fall asleep in the middle of the night. Miss Clavel who was sleeping down the hall turned on her light, and said "Something is not right!"
Narrator: Miss Clavel ran fast and faster, down the hall and hurried toward the new disaster.
Quickly turning on the light in the girls room, Miss Clavel said "What's wrong girls.
Nicole said, "Miss Clavel, save us!"
Miss Clavel said, "What is it, Mes petites?"
Chloe said, "The monster!"
Miss Clavel said, "What monster?"
Nicole said, "The abominable snowman is outside our window; listen!"
(Crunching footsteps)
Madeline said, "Regardé, there he is!"
(Girl gasp)
Miss Clavel said, Quelle horreur!
(Tapping on the window)
Chloe said "It is the abdominal snowman!"?
Nicole said, "The abominable snowman!" "She looked at her teacher in fear as the said "Miss Clavel you said monsters aren't real.
Riley narrowed her eyes as she saw that the figure was rather small. Riley got out of bed and said, "I am not so sure, Chloe."
Madeline said No, Riley, do not go near him!"?
The girls Gasped
Riley tapped on the snowman's shoulders as they fell on the ground.
Riley said, "Cest ca. I thought it was you two; meet the abominable snowman, Steven and Pepito!"
Steven said "hole."
(Genevieve Marie Arf Arf)
Chloe said angrily , "Steven and Pepito, that was not funny!"
Miss Clavel Gave the two boys a warning look and told them that if they didn't stop the tricks they would be in big trouble. The boys said sorry and went back to their room.
Miss Clavel just shook her head and turning to the girls, the teacher said."Now you should be able to sleep; you will have a lot of snow to play in tomorrow."
(In Unison) "Ouie, goodnight, dear Miss Clavel!"
Miss Clavel Turned out the light and went back to her room.
Madeline and Riley got out of bed and poked their head into Steven and Pepito's room The twins said together, "Bonne nuit, Monsieur Snowman."
Pepito and Steven answered back, "Grr, that's how monsters say good night, Mademoiselle!"
As they all laughed.
The next morning , the girls woke up very excited to see a large amount of snow outside their window.
Narrator: The new layer of precipitation exceeded every expectation.
After breakfast The children bundled up and ran out the door. Madeline was the first one out and the snow almost buried her.
Madeline cried "yippee!"
Chloe said, Madeline, where are you?"
Madeline threw a snowball which hit Chole on the back.
That started a snowball fight.
Narrator: The air was crisp and the sky was fair, but Hilda warned them to beware as her toes caused her pain..
Hilda said, "Ouch!"
Narrator: For she sensed trouble in the air.
Narrator: Graceful and confident on her skates, Madeline carved a perfect figure eight.
Nicole said, "Bravo Madeline!"
All the girls "Ohh, ahh!"
Dainelle said, "C est magnifique.
Chole said, "You are great!
(Girls, ohh. Ah.)
Narrator: Everyone thought this was quite fine. Genevieve even skated
(Girls Ooh
Narrator: Number nine, the dog could glide with such Precision she could even skate in long division. Miss Clavel even gave the ice skating a tried her hardest as she was able,
(Miss Clavel, whoa!)
Narrator: ; Miss Clavel remained unstable.
Miss Clavel said, Ahh, there I have it!"
Narrator: Their favorite teacher did her best.
(Miss Clavel, whoa!)
Narrator, but in the end she has to rest.
All the girls gasped. And Skated over to their teacher.
Riley helped her up and said "Miss Clavel are you alright?"
Miss Clavel said, Merci, little one, I think that it's time for me to go back home and have some tea." Before Miss Clavel went back to the house she told the group "Now you listen to Hans.
All the Girls said, "Au revoir, goodbye!"
Hans said, Now, my friends, what would you like to do next?"
(In Unison) "Everything!"
Madeline

I Dream about a blanket.
A blanket that's not warm.
It's the blanket we see on the ground.
After a winter storm
All the girls

Hans
Snow del- lay-dee
Oh -oh- oh-oh-
Snow, white snow!
Pepito
I dream of putting on my skis.
And schussing down the slope!
Steven
So when I feel
the first snowflake
It lights me up with hope.
Girls
Give us snow.
white, white snow
Give us snow!
Nicole
I Dream of building
a snowman
to join me on my sled.
Then we will skate.
around the frozen pond
until it's time to go to bed.
Girls
Give us snow.
white, white snow
Give us snow!
Hans
Snow-dee-lay-dee,
oh- oh- oh- oh- oh
Snow, white snow
Girls
Give us snow.
That night after dinner, Steven and Pepito tricked the girls once more and found themselves staying inside with Miss Clavel while the girls went sledding.
The next morning the girls followed Hans up a steep hill.
(Genevieve Panting)
(Genevieve whimpering)
Hans said, "We are almost at the top, Genevieve!"
(Genevieve Ruff Ruff)
When they reached the top, Genieve Marie's ears perked up
Madeline said, Genevieve, did you hear something? Listen!
(Rumbling)
Nicole and Chole said "It is the abominable snowman; I knew it!"
Hans said, no but I am afraid it is something much worse!"
All thirteen girls said, "Much worse?" What could it be? Oh no!"
Hans said, "An avalanche!"
All the girls gasped as the snow came quickly down the mountain.
Hans said, "Do not panic; get into the sled! Hang on, my friends!"
Madeline said, "Do not worry, Genevieve; we will make it, I hope. Oh, Steven and Pepito are lucky to have stayed with Miss Clavel!"
Narrator: They zoomed downhill and zipped down the hill with the deadly avalanche right on their tail.
Hans said, Okay, everyone leans left!"
The girls leaned to their left making the sled go faster than ever
All the girls said, "Woah!"
Madeline and Genieve almost fell off, but were pulled back on by Riley who held her sister tight.
Finally the girls and Hans slid inside. Madeline and Riley hugged each other.
Riley said, We made it, Genevieve!"
Miss Clavel counted "Un, deux, trois, quatre, cinq, six, sept, huit, neuf, dix, onze, douze, treize, quatorze, quinze!" "Très bien, my little ones are safe!"
Madeline, are you alright did you get hurt?
Madeline said "Oui I'm alright.
Riley nodded.
Steven and Pepito said "I wish we could've been with you."
Hilda looked out the window and said, "The road is blocked!" Hans telephone for help so we can be found.
Steven said, "If the abominable snowman doesn't find us first,"
Steven giggled
An hour later after the girls changed into their much heaver winter clothing they went back outside to play.
(Laughing As the girls were playing Pepito threw a snowball which knocked Madeline's hat off her head.
Pepito laughed
However Madeline said while shaking snow off her head, Stop it. Pepito, it's not funny.
Pepito said "Yes it is." Madeline then started to laugh as well.
Later after a long morning of playing in the snow,
Narrator: Hilda was serving Gingerbread when a flustered Hans came in and said,
Hans said, "The telephone lines are all dead!"
The girls, Steven and pepito all gasped.
Chloe said, "Oh no! We will be stranded here forever!
Miss Clavel said, "Do not worry, Chloe, a rescue team is sure to find us!"
Chloe said, "But that was our last Gingerbread!"
Narrator: Two days passed as they tried to stay cheerful. Aunt Hilda told stories by the earful, and the boys were still quite fearful.
Steven said, "Mom and dad must be worried about us."
Pepito said "yes." we promised we would give them a call.
Riley sighed as she was bored. She said said, "Madame Hilda, s'il te plaît, tell us another story!"
Hilda said, Well, there is one about-gasp!"
Pepito said, "What is that?"
Riley said, "What is that noise?"
"Do you hear it?
The group all rushed outside and looked up.
Madeline said, Airplanes, they are here to rescue us!"
(Yelling) "Down here, help us down here!"
Narrator: But the sound of the propellers soon diminished until they were completely finished. Then the minutes crawled by, the wait seemed long, and then Madeline said...
Madeline said, "Let us try a song!"
(Mumbling)
Nicole: "I do not feel like singing."
Riley said, "Then how about yodeling?"
Hans said, "Yodeling? The pilots might be able to hear it."
Madeline conducted her friends.
Twelve girls, Steven, Pepito, and Hans
Yodel-odel-ay-hee-hoo,
Yodel-odel-ay-hee-hoo,
(Crashed)
(gasp)
Steven and Pepito, the girls, and Hans
Yodel-odel-ay-hee-hoo,
Yodel-odel-ay-hee-hoo,
Narrator: From their throats came rousing notes that no one seemed to hear.
Danielle said, "Look!"
Nicole said, "Regardé!"
Narrator: But goats!
Hilda shooed the goats away, as the girls laughed.
Back inside
Miss Clavel said, "Keep your chins up. Mes petites, the plane will return soon!"
Narrator: When all seemed bleakest with despair, Riley and Madeline noticed their ice skates hanging on a chair.
Riley said C'est CA! That is, this is how to get attention.
Narrator: Riley explained her intention.
Riley whispers in Miss Clavel's ear.
Miss Clavel said: Tres Bien Riley It is a wonderful plane.
(As the girls skate in two straight lines.)
Miss Clavel said, "Très bien!"
Narrator: In two straight lines upon the ice, they followed Riley's advice carefully and with finesse. They carved the three letters S-O-S, the international signal of distress. Hilda began to Point and cheer.
Hilda said, "The planes are back; they are coming here!"
Narrator: The aircraft made their spirits soar.
All the girls shouted, "Yay, they are here! We are saved! Ohh!"
Narrator: But then it was quite; they heard nothing more.
Miss Clavel said, "They will return you, shall see."
Hilda said, "Come, I'll make some chamomile tea.
(Chatter)
Chloe said, "Now we are certain to be here forever.
Madeline said, "No, Chole, that is not so."
Chloe said, "Madeline How do you know?
Nicole said, Why is it Riley that you and Madeline are never afraid?
Riley said, Sometimes I feel afraid, just like you and you."
Nicole said you do.
Madeline said, But we never give up hope."
The twins smiled at each other.
Narrator: Then everybody turned around and heard a very frightful sound.
(Teeth chatting)
(Crunching footstep)
Narrator: Crunching footsteps in the snow were approaching very slowly.
Knocking on the door?
Narrator: With a gust of wind, the door opened wide.
(Gasp)
Narrator, and two large creatures stepped inside.
Steven said, "The Abominable Snowman hides."
Narrator: The snowman stomped their heavy feet, and off came snow, ice, and sleet.
Madeline said these monsters have no claws.
Chloe said they were wearing boots.
Nicole said, "And mittens?
Danielle said And ski masks?
Riley said it was the rescue patrol.
Chloe said, "Look, they have supplies.
Nicole said And a snowplow
Narrator: Riley's message on the ice proved a lifesaving device; the pilots saw the S.O.S. And Made the call to send the ground patrol to find them all.
Miss Clavel said, Merici Riley and Madeline as she hugged the twins
Hilda said Danke Schoes Riley
Narrator: Riley and Madeline's hope and their persistence had brought the group this fine assistance. Hilda said as she swept the floor.
"That's all there is; there isn't anymore!" Hilda said
All the girls giggled
