So sorry for taking so long with this chapter, but after getting back from the funeral, I wasn't in the mood to write. But, I finally got the juices going again to began updating this story. So thanks again for putting up with my questionable updates.
Now, to the chapter.
Chapter 57: To the Rescue
After following a long tunnel, Lloyd and the others exited through a hole in the street. It was mild-afternoon and it appeared that most of the people were in class. Those who did see them didn't pay them any mind.
They followed Sheena who took them outside the city and to some green pastures where several horses grazed.
"We don't have much time," Sheena warned as she got on her horse. "I hope you know how to ride."
Lloyd inwardly cringed. It seemed he was riding these things quite a bit lately.
Zelos nodded as he helped Presea onto his horse. "Yeah. If they make it past the bridge, we're finished."
Lloyd was getting Colette up on his horse. "Huh? The bridge is like two days from here. There's no way they can reach it in a couple of hours."
"They have wagons, the fastest transport in Tethe'alla besides for the Rheairds," Sheena replied. "They can reached the bridge in a few hours."
"Which is why you must know one hell of a shortcut to allow us to catch with them uses horses," Zelos said, getting on his horse.
"I do. Trust me," Sheena assured as Lloyd got on his horse.
"Ready," Lloyd said.
"'K', follow me!" Sheena shouted as they took off.
Lloyd leaned forwards on his horse as Colette clung onto him. It was so gentle and so warm that for a moment, he nearly forgotten about her illness. It was hard for him to believe that Colette only followed them for protection. It seemed deeper than that. Or perhaps, he wished that were the case.
He shook his head.
Colette wasn't the main concern right now. Genis and Raine were. If they didn't save them, they would be killed. Killed for the crime of being half-elves.
Half-elves.
All this time, they lied to him. They told him that they were elves. Why? He didn't care. So what if they were elves or half-elves. It made no difference to him. Did they think so little of him that they believed that he would hate them for being half-elves? The notion that they distrust him after everything that's happened pissed him off.
At the same time, he could see why they hid their origins. In this world, they were treated like trash just for being born half-elves and they were half-elves who were held prisoner beneath the lab of a school. How could a world with such wonders be so narrowed-minded?
In Sylvarant, half-elves were mostly despised because they were seen as Desians. He could understand those feelings to an extent, but he still found it stupid. There were terrible humans too and people didn't say all humans were evil. Why was it any different for half-elves? As far as he knew, they weren't a race that was born evil.
Was that why the lied to him? Were they afraid that he would see them as the same monsters who killed his mother? It would explain why Genis was always so hesitant when it came to talking about the Desians with him.
Those thoughts raced through his head as they galloping across the countryside.
Some time past before the imposing structure of the Grand Tethe'alla Bride came into view.
"Dammit! I hope they're all right!" Lloyd shouted.
"Part of the Grand Tethe'alla Bridge is a drawbridge. If they raise the bridge on us, there will be nothing we can do," Sheena said.
"They will try the raise the bridge the moment they see us," Zelos warned. "So be ready."
"Right," Lloyd replied.
Several knights attempted to stop them when they reached the bridge, but they didn't pay them any mind, nearly trampling them with the horses. The hard hooves of the horses hitting the concrete made Lloyd's ears ring and his butt hurt from all the vibrations. He was going to be so sore.
It was a long ride before they could see a legion of soldiers ahead of them. Lloyd could also see what appeared to be some type of vehicle floating off the ground. It was fast. Faster than anything Lloyd has ever seen on land.
"There they are!" Lloyd shouted.
Zelos narrowed his eyes. "We have to disable that wagon." He started to chant. "Lightning!"
He shot a bolt of lightning out his fingers and the bolt hit the wagon in the back, causing it to veer to the right and crash into the railings.
Lloyd blinked. Zelos could use magic? He glanced at the man. He wasn't a half-elf was he? No, given how they treated half-elves he couldn't be. But how did he use magic?
"It's the Chosen!" someone shouted.
"Quickly, raise the bridge!" someone else yelled.
A loud grinding noise filled their ears and the horses became spooked.
"Dammit!" Lloyd shouted as he attempted to regained control of his horse.
Sheena jumped off her horse. "Come on! We have to run!"
Lloyd leaped off his stead, quickly helped Colette down, before running at his full speed towards the end of the bridge. From the corner of his eye, he saw Zelos and Presea not too far behind them.
Ahead, they could see the bridge beginning to rise.
"Damn, they're trying to cut us off! We'll have to jump it!" Lloyd shouted over the group, not slowing down at all.
Zelos managed to catch up with him. "What! Wait! Time-out! Are you nuts?! We'll die if we fall from here!"
Lloyd didn't even glanced at Zelos. "And if we abandon them, they'll die too!" He has already let too many people down.
"Let us continue our pursuit," Presea said in her usual emotionless voice. Although, Lloyd thought he detected a hint of determination.
Zelos sighed. "Man..."
Lloyd leaned forward, attempting to reach his maximum speed. He knew he could make this jump. Unfortunately, the inclined of the bridge drastically slowed him down. He couldn't go as fast as he wanted running uphill.
By the time he reached the end of the bridge to jump he didn't have the speed needed to make it and neither did anyone one else except for Colette who simply flew over the gap. At this moment, he envied her for having wings.
Lloyd gave a loud cried as he fell. He couldn't die here! Not before he saved his friends.
Sheena acted quickly and chanted her summoning art. "Undine! Help!"
Undine appeared before them, gave them a look that clearly said, 'you idiots', before a jet of water erupted under them. The water jet was so powerful that it pushed them up and over the bridge. Undine was even nice enough to use her powers to slow their fall.
"Safe landing due to an unknown force. No damage detected," Presea stated, Despite her dead tone, she still gave an aura of surprised.
Zelos leaned forward, clearly in a state of shock. "I thought I was going to die."
Lloyd gave Sheena a look of gratefulness. "Thanks, Sheena."
Sheena let out a huge sigh. "I'm sure glad I was able to summon her…"
"Excuse me, but Professor Sage and Genis are…" Presea spoke up, reminded them of the reason why they almost committed suicide.
Colette glided in front of them and waited.
"That's right, we have to save them!" Lloyd yelled, getting his head back in the game.
They ran towards the Papal Knights, who were unloading Genis and Raine from the damaged wagon.
"Stop right there!" Lloyd shouted, getting their attention.
"How the heck they cross the bridge!?" a knight yelled.
Lloyd took out his swords without missing a stride. "Give us back our friends!"
"Silence!" a knight shouted as they charged them.
Within seconds, a giant battle erupted on the bridge.
Lloyd headed straight for the leader, attempting to disable him so the other knights would be thrown off. The lead knight blocked the sword blow with his axe. Despite its size, the man was able to use it with ease. These knights were better trained than the guards that protected the castle.
While Lloyd took on the boss, Sheena used her seals to lower the power the soldiers, but unfortunately, all that thick armor made it impossible for her paper harm them. Thankfully, Presea and Zelos picked up the slack.
"Grave!" Zelos shouted as sharpened chucks of earth impaled the Papal Knights.
"Devastation!" Presea yelled in her emotionless voice. She flipped a Papal Knight and sent rock debris towards the other knights.
Several knights attempted to attack her from behind, but Presea sensed them coming. "Infliction!"
She swept upward with a powerful vertical slash and jumped into the air using the upward momentum. When she did this, she created a large arc that looked like a crescent moon. The Papal Knight who was caught in the attack was cut apart and sent crashing into the ground.
"What the...why is this girl so strong?" one of the knights asked. "She cut through steel like it was paper."
"You shouldn't worry so much about a little girl when I'm around," Zelos said as he charged the knights. "Hell Pyre!"
He slashed upwards at one of the knights before jumping into the air and shooting a fireball down at him while his back was turned.
Lloyd saw the attack from the side of his eye. "Hell Pyre? Isn't that one of Kratos' attack?"
"Pay attention, boy!" the head knight yelled as he attempted to behead Lloyd.
Lloyd put his sword up, blocking the attack. "Compared to the people I fought before, I don't have to pay attention to you." He pushed the knight back, knocking him off-balanced. "Tempest Beast!" he yelled as he jumped and spun in the air.
He hit the Papal Knight several times before slamming him with a powerful Beast.
"And now, Demonic Thrust!" Lloyd shouted as he thrust his blade into the knight, piercing his gut.
The lead knight gave a cry of pain before he collapsed.
"Piece of cake," Lloyd mocked as he put his swords away.
Sheena used this time to free Genis and Raine from their bounds.
The remaining Papal Knights, finally realizing that they were outmatched, retreated. Soon the bridge was cleared.
"That was so easy," Zelos chuckled as he casually kicked one of the down Papal Knights.
"Lloyd! Everyone!" Genis shouted as he ran to his friend. He stopped short of hugging Lloyd.
Raine slowly approached the group, she still appeared to be dumbstruck. "You came to rescue us."
Lloyd smiled. "Of course! You're our friends!"
Genis frowned and lowered his head. "But...we're half-elves."
Lloyd walked over to Genis and gently tapped him on the head, much like what he does when Colette was being especially dense. "So...what's your point?"
Genis finally looked up at Lloyd. His eyes were shining with tears. It was like the weight of the world had been lifted. "Lloyd!" He threw himself into his chest and cried into his jacket. "I...I wanted to tell you! I wanted to tell you for so long... I was going to, the night that Colette was going to leave...but then I heard about your mom being killed by Desians and I thought..."
Lloyd pulled Genis away so he could look him in the eye. "You thought I'd blamed all half-elves for what the Desians did."
Genis slowly nodded his head.
"You dork," Lloyd teased, using Colette's unofficial nickname. "It was the Desians who killed my mom and did all those horrible things. Not half-elves. How can I blame an entire race for the evils of a few?"
Genis was crying again. He felt so ashamed for ever doubting Lloyd. "I...I'm so sorry. I'll never doubt you again."
Lloyd gave a gentle smile. "Hey, it isn't like you to cry."
Raine stood back with a small smile.
She was wrong about Lloyd. She knew that he didn't share the same biases as most humans had towards half-elves, but she truly believed that his hatred for the Desians would blind him. Instead, Lloyd had shown himself to be more adult and understanding than most humans.
As she looked at Genis cry into Lloyd, she too felt a huge weight lift from her. For the first time...they were truly accepted. They found a person he didn't despised and hate them for their blood. Although the Goddess Martel wasn't real, she thanked her. Through their journey to awakening her, they had found true friendship.
She glanced at Colette. Although Colette said nothing at the moment, she knew in her hearts of hearts that she accepted them too. She may have even known for a while.
She looked at Zelos, Sheena and Presea. Sheena looked to be near tears herself from the reunion. Zelos had a stiffed, hard demeanor. She couldn't read the man at all. Presea kept the same emotionless frown.
"What about the Tethe'alla half of our group? Do you mind if we join up with you?" Raine asked the group. They might as well get any descent out of the way.
Sheena smiled at her. "I'm from Mizuho. We're not exactly mainstream, either. We're not that different."
Raine tilted her head. She mentioned that before.
Zelos stared between Genis and Raine before sighing. "To tell you the truth, I can't say I'm really kosher with this. Then again, people have always treated me differently, saying that I'm a descendent of angels. So in a way we're a lot alike."
"I just want to go home," Presea stated bluntly.
Raine nodded in understanding. "I see. Alright, then."
Genis finally detached himself from Lloyd and looked over the group. "By the way, why is Sheena here?"
"I have orders from my chief. I'm supposed to observe your activities," Sheena stated, obviously very happy about these orders.
Lloyd smiled. Thank goodness she wasn't in trouble.
Zelos chuckled. "That's typical of Mizuho. They're trying to decide if they should side with the King or you guys." Or more specifically, should they side with them or the Renegades.
Genis sighed. "So now we have two people keeping tabs on us."
Sheena became very uneasy. "But I'm not trying to do anything or get in your way or anything! So…so…"
Raine walked over to the younger girl and patted her shoulder. She gave her a rare smile. "We know that already. You're an honest person…perhaps to a fault."
Lloyd folded his arms. "At this point, I'm okay with anything. Now we just need Sheena to form a pact with Volt and we can get those Rheairds working!"
All the color drained from Sheena's face and she started to tremble. "Volt!?"
Everyone gave her puzzled looks, even Presea. The only who didn't look shock was Zelos.
"...Sheena?" Presea questioned, sounded unusually concerned.
Sheena blushed. "Ah...nothing."
Lloyd frowned. It must be her fear of lightning showing through. He had to admit; he wasn't too excited to meeting Volt either. Although, he did get to see another summon spirit.
Zelos slapped his hands together. "Then shouldn't we go get the Rheairds first? Either way, Volt's temple is on the other side of the Grand Tethe'alla Bridge. It'll be faster if we pick up the Rheairds since the bridge is closed off right now."
"Pick up? How are you planning on moving these things?" Lloyd asked.
Zelos gave him an easy smile and chuckled. "Just leave that to me! I prepared a secret weapon just in case something like this happened."
"What secret weapon?" Genis asked.
He wagged his finger. "It wouldn't be any fun if I spoiled the surprise! Now let's get going! Uhmmm, where did you put them?"
Everyone sighed.
"We crashed them in some mountains not far from Meltokio," Lloyd said.
"Fooji Mountain," Sheena stated. "Given the remote location, I doubt anyone would find them."
"Fooji Mountain, huh? Well, that's a heck of a place to land," Zelos humored. "Well, no problem. Just led the way and leave the rest to the Great Zelos." He walked forward, heading in the direction of the mountain.
"I don't feel comfortable leaving anything to you," Genis muttered.
"I feel the same way honestly," Lloyd also murmured. He sighed. "I can't believe we're going to have to climb that mountain again."
Genis groaned. "How do you think I feel? That stupid mountain nearly killed me."
"Settle down. We might as well do what Zelos says. We can't do anything as long as the bridge is up anyway," Raine pointed out.
"Hopefully he actually has something and isn't bluffing," Sheena said as they followed Zelos.
The walk was quiet at first, since everyone was reflecting on what happened.
Zelos led the way as Colette floated by him aimlessly. He glanced at Colette from the side of his eye. Seeing her was a cold reminder of his own destiny. He was born to become nothing more than an empty vessel. Hollowed out, and unable to remember himself or his friends. Although...he didn't have any friends.
"Cooooooleeeeette!" he called, trying to get some type of response out of her. She didn't even flinched despite him trying to be an annoying as possible. "She really doesn't respond to anything."
"Hey, you aren't doing anything funny to her, are you?" Sheena asked, rushing to Colette's side.
Zelos glared at her. "What!? Of course not!"
Sheena didn't believe him. "It wouldn't surprise me at all if you did something like that."
Now he was really annoyed. He would never do anything with a girl who has lost her senses. Especially one who could literally kill him. "What do you mean by that?"
"You tried peeking at me in the shower before!" Sheena accused.
Oh, that. Well, it wasn't his fault that she didn't close the door. She was far too trusting. "That was just natural curiosity toward the unknown."
Sheena rolled her eyes. "Oh brother..." She stalked off a way from him, having more than enough of this Chosen.
When she was gone, Zelos looked at Colette again. "This angel transformation is definitely something I don't want to go through." If he ever did, he hoped someone, anyone, would be merciful enough to put him out of his misery.
Sheena walked until she nearly ran into Genis, who was walking very closed to Presea. She didn't get a chance to know the girl; just that she was some type of experiment. It was unthinkable that someone in her world would do this to another person. It was exactly what the Desians would do. She was going to have a nice long talk with Kate.
"Looks like we've gained a new member while I was gone," Sheena said lightly. No point in letting her anger show through.
Genis nearly jumped. He was so focused on Presea that he didn't sense Sheena. "Oh, this is Presea."
"Yes," Presea said almost automatically.
Sheena looked over Presea and noticed her huge axe. It wasn't a battle-axe given its shape. It was obviously meant for chopping trees. Very big and strong trees given its sized. No wondered that Papal Knight was freaked out. "An axe-user, huh? Can I try it out for a minute?"
"Okay," Presea answered as she handed her the axe.
Despite it not being a battle-axe, this thing was heavy. Even with her exsphere she could barely lift it. She wasn't the strongest in the group by any means, but how was this tiny girl able to hold and swing this thing like it was a butter knife? Was her exsphere normal?
She looked at it. No, it seemed normal enough. Yet... "Whoa...It's heavy! Do you swing this thing around?"
"The axe's weight increases its destructive power," Presea stated.
Maybe so, but why did she need such power? She was just a lumberjack, right? Was she fighting mutant trees or something?
Genis laughed. "That's our Presea! That makes perfect sense! Presea's not only pretty, but smart as well!"
Sheena looked between Genis and Presea and smiled. Now she got it. That's why Genis was acting strange around Presea. The boy had developed a crush. How cute. "Genis. I see you've changed a lot too."
Genis tilted his head. "What do you mean?"
Sheena smiled wider. "Nothing. I think I'll just leave you alone with Presea."
She walked a little faster so she could give the young couple all the space they needed.
They walked past Meltokio and made their way deeper into open field. The monsters encounters were light and manageable, especially given all the frontline fighters. Lloyd felt must better having so much backup to help. It really lighting the load.
"So Raine and the kid are really half-elves." Zelos spoke softly to himself.
Lloyd glared at him. He could hear the tone of dislike in his voice. It was the same tone people used when referring to half-elves as Desians. "What, you going to discriminate against them too?"
Zelos glanced at him. He didn't appear to be insulted. "I'm sure it sounds like that, but you've got to understand, I've been educated this way since birth. 'Half-elves are stupid, savage, filthy creatures'."
"You..." Lloyd sneered. It was because of people like Zelos that Raine and Genis felt like they had to hide the truth from him.
Zelos raised up his hands in defense. "Don't get mad, I'm just stating the common view. Well, I haven't been around them very long yet, but I can tell they're good people, not any different from us."
"Good," Lloyd said shortly. Even if he was this world's Chosen, he had no patience for bigotry. Especially towards his friends.
"Knowing that, but still being unable to shake the feelings, is what discrimination is all about, though," Zelos said, becoming very serious.
Lloyd wasn't sure what to say. He couldn't understand. He simply wasn't raised that way. Perhaps he was one of the lucky ones. If he was raised to despised and looked down on half-elves, could he become like Zelos? Especially in Sylvarant where half-elves and Desians were almost interchangeable.
He didn't like this line of thinking. He needed something else to focus on.
"So, you can use magic?" Lloyd asked.
Zelos smirked. "So, you noticed. I'm pretty cool, right?"
"How?" Lloyd asked.
Zelos glanced at him. "How what?"
"How can you use magic? Genis told me that only those with elven blood can use magic," Lloyd said. "The last human I knew who could...ended up not being who he said he was."
Zelos shrugged. "I have no clue. I've always been able to use magic. I just thought it was a Chosen thing."
There was a slight pause. "Could it be possible that you have elven blood?"
Zelos hummed. "I guess it's possible. My parents were both humans and I didn't know my grandparents. I supposed I could have specks of elven blood."
"For a society who despise half-elves, you're pretty lacks about that kind of stuff," Lloyd pointed out.
"Well, having a quarter of elven blood is not considered bad. Mostly because you don't inherit the longevity of a half-elf," Zelos said.
"But what I don't get is that you discriminate against half-elves, but nothing else with elven blood. Not even the elves themselves," Lloyd said.
Zelos tilted his head. "I can't answer the question about the elves. I think most of it has to do with the fact that the majority people can go their entire lives without ever seeing an elf where you run into half-elves everyday. Elves are actually quite revered here."
Lloyd shook his head. "I don't get it."
"I think at its heart, discrimination isn't really understandable. It's a mindset and a way of life. Even if you point out how illogical discrimination is and all its flaws, you can't easily change people's minds. Much like the case with me," Zelos stated.
Lloyd looked at the man. Once again, Zelos has proven himself to be very insightful. Where did these flashes of insightfulness come from?
"Anyway, let's break for the day," Zelos suddenly said. "We all had a long morning and we skipped lunch. Don't know about you, but I'm about to pass out."
"Yeah, that sounds good," Lloyd said. Truthfully, he was very tired too. It has been an emotionally draining day.
Once they stopped, Genis decided to treat everyone to his cooking. At the very least, they were going to eat good today.
"Well, I'll go gather some firewood," Zelos said.
"We can have Presea do that," Lloyd said.
Zelos waved his hand. "It's no problem. I need to get away from you guys for a moment anyway. Man's business, you know." He walked away from camp.
Lloyd sighed. He would never understand that guy.
"You will get betterrrrr. You will get betterrrrrrrrr," someone chanted.
Lloyd turned to see Sheena standing in front of Colette. She looked almost like she was praying in front of her with a scrap of paper in her hands.
"What are you doing?" he asked.
Sheena immediately stopped her chant and became flustered. "N...nothing! I was just...wishing for Colette to return to normal."
Lloyd gave a sad, yet grateful smile. "I see."
Sheena returned the smile before she looked back somberly at Colette. "I hope she gets back to normal soon."
Lloyd sighed. "Yeah, me too."
It took Zelos several minutes to find a wooded area to duck into. Yeah, he had definitely become a lumberjack.
He sent out a mental signal and waited.
"Took you long enough," Yuan said as he appeared before him.
"Give me a break, you just saw me this morning," Zelos teased.
"Have you found the Rheairds?" Yuan asked, getting to the point.
"Yeah, they parked them in the Fooji Mountains," Zelos answered. "I assumed near the top given Lloyd's griping."
Yuan nodded. "I see. Good work. We will have our trap ready when you arrive." He paused for a moment. "I assumed Lloyd failed in making a proper key crest for the Chosen."
"Afraid so," Zelos answered. "Guess the kid wasn't as good as we hoped."
"It seems," Yuan said with an air of disappointment. "I must leave now before I am noticed. I'll leave the rest to you." He transported.
Zelos waited several seconds before he sent another mental signal.
Pronyma appeared. "I did not expect you to contact me so soon."
"Yeah, I got some intel on the Chosen's group. They will be heading towards the Fooji Mountains. Nice and remote so you can take Colette," Zelos said.
"I see. Good work. Lord Yggdrasill shall be very please," Pronyma replied with a sly smile.
"So, what will be done with the others?" Zelos asked.
Pronyma smirked. "Am I detecting some concern?"
Zelos snorted. "Of course not. Those guys got me in trouble. My associating with them gave the Pope the perfect opportunity to frame me."
Pronyma gave him a bored expression. "I hardly care about the politics in your world. Although, we believe that the Pope has been keeping some unpleasant company."
This got Zelos interest. "Such as."
"One of the Grand Cardinals," Pronyma answered.
Zelos folded his arms. "I thought you guys are only supposed to terrorized Sylvarant."
"That is supposed to be the case, but one of the Grand Cardinals has defected. Although, I still do not know why the Pope is involve with him," Pronyma said.
"You just keep giving me more problems," Zelos sighed as he rubbed his head. "No matter. With our business done, I can deal with the Pope at my own leisure."
Pronyma said nothing as she disappeared.
Zelos stood in place. Truthfully, he was concerned about them. He wasn't so much worried about Lloyd. Despite Yuan being only a couple steps away from growing a twirling mustache and wearing a top hat, he knew he wouldn't physically harm the boy….too much anyway.
Colette...she was going to lose what was left of her soul. The fact that it could have easily been him didn't leave him with a pleasant feeling. In fact, he was actually feeling kinda low; especially given everything these people were going through to save her.
He quickly drowned those thoughts. It couldn't be helped. These people had no chance against Cruxis or the Renegades. They were fighting two giants without even a wing or a prayer. No matter how much he may come to like them, it was better to end their journey quickly. That way at least, Genis and Raine would be spared. Perhaps, against all odds, Yuan's plan my saved Colette. Although, he wasn't banking on that.
He quickly gathered some wood and headed back to camp.
"Where have you've been?" Genis asked in annoyance. "You've been gone this long and only got that amount wood."
Zelos glared at him. "Save it, brat." He dumped the firewood so the kid could get to work. The others appeared to be setting the monster repellence and scouting.
Genis took the wood and set it on fire using his magic. He then began to cook, using the different seasons they bought the other day.
"You're pretty handy there," Zelos noted.
"I have to become good. Otherwise, I would have starved to death years ago," Genis said.
"Is that overdoing it? I mean, you have your big sis to help cook," Zelos said.
Genis stared at him. "You haven't had my sister's cooking."
Zelos chuckled. "It can't be that bad."
This made Genis blinked a couple of times. He would love to prove Zelos wrong, but then he had to eat Raine's cooking too.
There were a couple minutes of silence as Genis prepared dinner.
"Zelos...you hate half-elves, right?" Genis suddenly asked.
Zelos blinked. What brought this on? "I don't like them, anyway."
"Then why are you coming along on our journey?" Genis asked bluntly. "Now that you're a criminal, you don't have to watch us anymore. It's probably better for you to return home and clear your name."
Zelos leaned into his hand. "Well, in the end, we're of the same lot, really."
Genis gave him a questionable look. What could the Chosen of the flourishing world who could have anything he wanted on a silver platter and adore by everyone have in common with half-elves? "What do you mean?"
There was a long paused and for a moment, Genis didn't expect him to answer.
"No one wanted us to be born," Zelos spoke barely above a whispered.
Genis stared at him in shock. What the heck did that mean? Before he could ask, Zelos had already walked away.
Zelos was the Chosen. Why wouldn't people want him to be born? He was the one who would save the world if the Desians returned. He was the world's savior.
Genis shook his head. This guy was giving him a headache. Worse, they were stuck with him.
The story is moving at a crawl pace, but we are moving. Big things happening next chapter, so until then please take care.
