"Come on Drake, come this way," Colt says to Drake.

He playfully growls and tries to come to him. But, like last time, he falls on his side. He snorts and stamps his paw in frustration before plopping his head on his paws. It's been 2 weeks since he hatched and so far Drake's eyes and ear holes have opened up. I can't help chuckling as I enter the room at his behavior. Our father would do that too when he got frustrated. I used to tease him about it.

Speaking of our father, I noticed that Drake sort of looks like Draco. With the exception of the green scales around his head, down his spine to his tail and his little wings. That he got from his mother, The Scarred One. But Drake also has Draco's golden eyes too.

"How's it going," I ask as I come over to them.

"Not so good. He can't seem to keep his balance," Colt says and pets Drake's head

"Drake? Drake will you look at me," I say to him. He frowns but looks up with his eyes. He can't speak yet but he seems to understand when we talk to him, "Now watch me. First, you stand up on all your paws like this. Second, you put one paw forward. Then, you do the same with the other one and finally, you do the same with your back legs, see? Like this."

I get down on my hands and knees to demonstrate to him. Then I hear an annoying sound behind me. I turn around to see Drake rolling on the ground laughing at me. And Colt looks like he's trying to keep himself from laughing as well.

"Ok you little lizard," I smirk at him as I get up, "I know I look silly walking like this but trust me. This is how you are supposed to walk. Now try it again."

When he finishes laughing, he rolls over and stands up on his paws. His legs wobble a little bit but this is normal. Then he manages to keep his balance this time.

"Ok great," I smile at him and walk a bit away from him, "Ok Drake, just like I told you. Put one paw forward."

He does as I say and starts taking his first steps towards me. When he completely walks a couple of steps, he smiles brightly and wags his tail.

"Yes, you did it," Colt cheers and picks him up, "Oh I knew it! I knew you could do it!"

"Kalias, Colt are you down here?"

"Brother Gilbert," I shout in excitement and run to the stairs, "Come quickly! You have to see this!"

"What?! What wrong," He exclaims as he stumbles down the stairs when I pull him with me.

"Drake's walking! Colt show him!"

"Ok Drake, go to Brother Gilbert," Colt says as he sets Drake down.

He looks from Colt to Brother Gilbert and happily stands up. Brother Gilbert smiles and crouches down to him. Drake slowly starts making his way to him. He gets halfway there and his front paw slips and he falls right on his face. He whimpers as he shakes his head and starts to cry.

"Oh there there Drake," Brother Gilbert says as he picks him up and brushes his tears from his eyes, "Everyone stumbles when they first learn to walk. I'll tell you a secret. I also have trouble walking sometimes and I have 2 feet and I'm an adult. But I don't let it get me down and neither should you."

"He's right Drake, no one's perfect, " I say as I pet his head, "Now do you want to try again?"

He shakes his head and lets out a big yawn. Brother Gilbert sets him in his bed and strokes his back. Drake closes his eyes and falls right to sleep.

"Oh Kalias, I was coming to tell you that Friar Peter wants to speak with you," Brother Gilbert says as he puts a blanket over Drake.

"Alright. Keep an eye on Drake with Colt for me please. I'll be right back, " I say and give Colt a quick peck on the cheek.

I make my way up the stairs and lock the door behind me. I can't help wondering what Friar Peter wants to see me about. I knock on the door and hear him call for me to enter.

"You wanted to see me?"

"Yes. I wanted to know how Drake is doing. Last I heard, his eyes opened and he could hear."

"That's true. And guess what? Just today he started learning to walk! He's also shown he can understand English and he can acknowledge me or Colt when we tell him to do something. And when not to do something,"

"And how's his temperament?

"He's very sweet and bright. He was a little frustrated when he was walking. he kept falling and he did snort a couple of time, but Brother Gilbert and I talked to him and he calmed down. He truly is like how our father used to be; I remember when he was frustrated about something, he would act just like Drake does."

"That's good to hear. I'll be down to see him later."

"He'll like that. He's very fond of you. Well, I better be getting back to work . One of the novices was complaining about a toothache."

I left the office to go back to Drake's room. When I get there, Drake is twitching in his sleep. Colt is reading a book and Brother Gilbert is going over one of Father's scrolls.

"Guys? I'm gonna be busy the rest of the day .Could you continue watching Drake for me?"

"I can for a bit my love but then I have squire training to do at the castle remember" Colt says as he closes the book.

"I can take over after you Cold," Brother Gilbert offers.

"Thank you both." I say and hugs them before leaving.

All day long I've been busy treating all kinds of ailments. From small ones, like a scrapped knee on a child. To big ones, like resetting bones for knights. The life of a healer is never done. And sometimes it's overwhelming. By the time I get back to the convent and I'm finished with my work, it's already night time and I'm starved and exhausted. I make myself a sandwich in the kitchen and eat it on the way to Drake's room. Colt's already there and fast asleep in our bed we have set up down here. I finish my meal and after getting my nightgown on, I pass out in his arms on the bed. As I settle in. I smile as he wraps his warm arms around me and drift off into a peaceful sleep.
