Hey guys, sorry it's been a long time but things have been going on with me. I might need to find a new job soon. But I will see about getting this story finished before the end of the year.
Disclaimer time: I don't own Drake or any of the other characters in Dragonheart except for Kalias, Colt and Kelei and Laia.
My brain feels like it just fell out of the back of my skull. I can't even speak. Just when I thought Drake was the last of his kind, then this happens.
"So, I imagine you're confused. But I did give you hints," Kelei shrugs and sheepishly smiles, "Like how I passed a test for dragons?"
"There's another dragon. A girl one," Drake says in amazement.
"And you're a boy dragon. I can't tell you how happy and excited I was to learn I'm not the last of my kind," Kelei excitedly says and looks at me, "Kalias are you ok?"
"Uh, I don't know. I mean my papa said you passed but I didn't put it together and thought it meant this. But I guess I'm just…shocked or surprised Kelei. No wonder my daughter likes you."
"Yes, about that. Kelei is my human disguise name. My dragon name is Baixin. It means "white heart" in the Eastern tongue."
"But how are you able to do this? Change from a human to a dragon," Drake asks her as he gets up and circles her to get a better look at her.
"I found a spell that could change me. Like how Western dragons like you can change to blend in to camouflage themselves, the Eastern dragons can change into people to learn more about them or," Kelei/Baixin sadly looks down, "or hide in case of danger to themselves."
"So, you did this when the dragons from your land were killed too," I ask her.
"Yes and I've been living with Master Kwan and Lin since then. He's been like my family since I was a hatchling and Lin is like a little sister to me. But as far as dragons age, I'm close to Drake's by a few years or so. Dragons do live longer than humans, but our aging takes longer. A young teenage dragon can be that way for decades before they fully mature into an adult."
"I didn't know that. So that means you aren't ready to have any offspring at all?"
"Nope. I probably won't be able to lay eggs for some a while. But when I'm able to, I'll know it."
"I see," I say and then look her over, "So uh can you fly like Drake? Where are your wings?"
"I don't need them. The dragons in my homeland learned to use magic to fly in the air," Kelei/Baixin explains as she demonstrates to us.
"Wow you're amazing," Drake says in wonder.
"So are you. I mean you're the son of Draco, the Great One. And your wings are very impressive."
"Thanks," Drake blushes.
"So, do you have any other questions," I ask her.
"I have many more. Also, I would like to know how it is that you and your mate Colt are so young. I know humans age and you and he should be Master Kwan's age and your baby grown up with children of her own," Kelei/Baixin says as she sits in front of me.
"Ah well, that's because of a potion my father left for me as a gift," I explain to her, "And looking back, I'm thinking he did this so I could raise Drake with Colt so I could be prepared to be a mother to my own child when the time came."
"Will you continue taking the potion now that you're a mother?"
"Yes. At least until she's old enough to live her own life and have her own family. But I can't make that decision on my own."
"That makes sense. And what can you tell me about Draco?"
"He was our father and one of the sweetest creatures on Earth. But he was sad."
"Why was father sad," Drake asks me.
"Because of the other dragons getting killed every year. Until only he and your mother were the only ones left. And when she was killed, then just our father was left."
"And then he died too. How did it happen?"
"Drake, I don't know if I'm ready to talk about that yet. It hurts too much," I say as my stomach lurches.
"Ok I'm sorry. I would like to know but, I can wait until you're ready to tell me," Drake says and nuzzles my shoulder.
"Drake, I promise I will tell you soon. I can tell you that he was my teacher as well as my protector. He taught me how to use a bow and to control my anger. Let me tell you, when I was Geoff age, I was very angry with how King Einon ran this country. And I hated how the knights were little more than thugs. They didn't even care about the Code. They wrote it off as old teachings."
"That's terrible! Did Bowen think that too," Kelei/Baixin asks me.
"Yes and no. He lost his way and for a time forgot about it too until the day he met papa and me. And well, we didn't like him. As a matter of fact, he tried to killed Papa and thought I was being held hostage or something. But I wasn't about to let him hurt my only family."
"What did you do? Did you fight him?"
"We did. Father dragged him through the forest with the rope Bowen launched at him and hooked him around the foot. And when Papa got brough down, the two of us fought Bowen. That is until the fight came to a standstill."
"How? What happened, Drake asks curiously.
"Father was able to get Bowen into his mouth, but Bowen shoved his sword into the roof of Papa's mouth. And they were stuck like this for hours until Papa suggested a truce and an alternative plan. I didn't trust Bowen and was about to kill him myself until Papa pinned me to the ground under his paw too and forced me to remove my weapons."
"Did you get in trouble," Kelei/Baixin asks me.
"Yeah I didn't want to remove them, so Papa said I was grounded for a week and if I didn't want to make it a fortnight, I should remove them. So with that incentive, I reluctantly did as I was told. And as part of my punishment, I had to ride with Bowen and listen to what he told me what to do too. And Papa's alternative plan was to pretend to attack towns and villages so Bowen could "kill" him and get paid for it. Then Papa and I could come and go during the daylight hours"
"Whoa, that is amazing! I never knew Dad could be that sneaky," Drake chuckles.
"Yeah and Papa had a sense of humor too. He used to tickle me awake as a little girl and we would joke together like how you and I do now."
"Sounds like you had a lot of fun with," Kelei/Baixin comments, "I understand why it's hard for you to talk about him."
"Yeah it can be but I don't mind telling stories about him with you two. Before Colt, I didn't like talking to people at all. I preferred dragons. They were a more noble and humane species. And they never attacked people except in self-defense. Remember that both of you."
"We will," They say at the same time.
"Drake would you like to go for a fly with me," Kelei/Baixin asks him.
"Yeah I would but," Drake starts to say and looks at me.
"Don't worry about me. You two go have fun but no more hunting livestock please?"
"We promise. Thank you Kalias," Drake says as he gets up and then, with a running start, takes to the skies with Kelei/Baixin.
A laugh escapes me as the wind blows around me as a result of their take off. Watching them fly off is quite a sight. Drake flaps his wings to climb while Kelei/Baixin seems to be running on the air with her tail swishing behind her like a ribbon in the wind. She does a loop while following him. I start to walk back to the field and hear a horse and my daughter's gurgling voice coming my way.
"Hey is everything ok," Colt asks me as he dismounts his horse with our baby girl in her carrier on his back.
"Yeah sort of. Drake's still embarrassed and uh Kelei's real name is actually Baixin," I tell him as I take our girl from him.
"And she's a dragon too," He notes to me.
"Uh well what makes-"
"Kalias I saw her fly off with Drake."
"Ok yes she's a dragon too. An Eastern one but still a dragon. And she's about the same age as Drake. Actually she's been his age for a couple years. She said she and Drake can be that age for decades before they mature into adults."
"That would explain her mature attitude and that test you said she passed. I am happy for him but maybe we should have his future fire lessons somewhere away from people and near a water source. That was pretty scary."
"I agree. Maybe we should do it in the mountains by a lake," I suggest to him and play with Laia's hands.
"A lake would be a good place. So what's gonna happen now?"
"I think we should go home and play with our little girl," I smirk and make funny faces at her. She in turn laughs and squeals in delight at my face and the kisses I am putting on her neck.
