"I'll try my best from now on too."

Those were the words spoken by the Counter Guardian EMIYA at the conclusion of the fifth Holy Grail War as he vanished. It was a promise to his Master, Rin, that he would try his best from now on to like himself and to accept that the path he took in life was never wrong.

As he sat on a rock inside his own world surrounded by swords stabbed in the ground and remanence on his last mission, he told himself that he would keep his promise.

"It is time."

Those words seemed to echo throughout the Counter Guardian's world.

EMIYA sighed as he knew who it was and what it wanted. Diligently, he stood up from his seated position and turned to the sky that had gears slowly turning in it.

"So it is," he answered as he used his magecraft to trace his trusted bow and prepared himself to be teleported to his next assignment. However, much to the surprise of the Counter Guardian his boss, Alaya, decided to speak up again.

"You seem different."

EMIYA smirked his signature smirk at those words. "I didn't think you cared about little ol me."

"I don't," Alaya spoke without hesitation. "It was just an observation, nothing more."

EMIYA scowled. "Just get on with it then."

"Very well."

Soon after, the Counter Guardian's body dissolved into a million particles of light as he disappeared from the safety and comfort of his world and towards his next mission.

In a location outside of time and space, EMIYA's head was filled with the details of his next assignment as he was transported.

Extermination. No surprise there that he was being sent to kill people before they started a war. It wasn't the first or even the second time that he was tasked with such a mission. Honestly, he stopped counting after 50...

The Counter Garden sighed in disappointment. He was hoping for another Holy Grail War summoning, but he guessed that was asking too much with his E-rank luck.

As expected, EMIYA couldn't dwell on his bad luck for long as with a final swoosh he had arrived.

In the middle of a desert, EMIYA materialled.

Instantaneously that spoke of experience, EMIYA took note of surrounding and tension quickly left his shoulders as he observed that he was alone. In fact, all he could see for miles all around was sand.

"Couldn't you have at least dropped me off close to civilization," the Counter Guardian complained under his breath. Stupid Alaya for always making things difficult for him.

He knew without a doubt that it did this on purpose as payback for his sassy remark before he left his world. Honestly, his boss could be so petty times.

"Well, no use complaining about it now," EMIYA spoke to himself as he traced himself a simple gray cloak to protect himself from the scorching hot sun beating down on him.

Normally, using his magecraft to trace anything besides swords cost him a bit more magical energy, but he was pleasantly surprised that the cost of the cloak was next to nothing.

As EMIYA adjusted the cloak to make sure he had no exposed skin, he went through the background information of this place that was uploaded into his head.

This was the time before man or as it is commonly referred to as the Age of Gods. This meant that this mission took him to the distant past from when he was alive. It also explains why it was so easy to trace the cloak.

Being the Age of Gods, there was more mana in the air than during the Age of Man. Thus, he could use the mana in the air more and not have to rely on his od or internal reserves as much to perform his magecraft.

"A parallel world," EMIYA noted outload as he next went over the history of this place and found it vastly different that his own world's history.

A little difference was not that surprising, but this level of difference spoke of Zelretch's major involvement in his transportation to this place.

"Fuck," the Counter Guardian swore as nothing every good happens when the user of the Second Magic gets involved.

EMIYA suddenly scowled and shook his head.

There was no use getting worked up about Zelretch. He was long used to being the plaything of Alaya so what difference does it make if the ancient vampire was also thrown into the mix?

Focusing back on the information uploaded into his head, EMIYA noted the creatures he was tasked with exterminating. Devils, Angels, and Fallen Angels.

His mission was to wipe out all three of these species. Apparently, they were on the break of starting a war with each other with humans right in the middle of it.

The Counter Guardian suddenly gave the middle finger to the sky.

Yeah, he wasn't going to commit genocide of three races. Not if he could help it.

The person he was before the fifth Holy Grail War would have just accepted his fate and done the mission exactly as Alaya instructed with a numb heart. However, not this time. Fuck that.

This time for sure. He will finally save everyone.

According to the information uploaded into his head, though physically and biologically different than humans, all three are sentimental beings capable of intelligent conversation and rationale thought. Thus, making them emotionally like humans and him not wanting to wipe them out.

His many past missions allowed him to adopt this more flexible mindset than what most people would have. After all, Medea was not human, yet she turned out to have a heart.

Normally, EMIYA could not resist Alaya's instructions that was to kill them all, but he could feel that his boss's hold of him has weakened a great deal amount more than normal. Probably because he is in such a far-off parallel world.

EMIYA smirked.

This will allow him the chance to act more independently than normal. Something that he will take advantage of fully.

While still smirking, EMIYA took a step forward in a random direction with the full intention of working towards diplomacy between the three species instead of violence.

He has been apart enough of wars to know that no one really wins when it's over. Therefore, he will aim to stop it, before it even starts.

This time he will be a hero of justice. He will keep his promise to Rin.

So, the Counter Guardian EMIYA went out on his journey to peacefully resolve the matters of Devils, Angels, and Fallen Angels before it turned into a war. At which case he will be forced to intervene by Alaya and wipe them all out before the war spills over to the human population and cause needless deaths.

At first, all went according to plan as he was able to make connections with all three sides. EMIYA, true to his word with Rin, put himself out there and tried his best to find happiness and joy with other people. Slowly but surely, the ever-snarky Counter Guardian opened up more and more to those he considered friends. He put his trust in them, and he thought he had their trust in return.

It turned out, however, that trust was misplaced as one day he was tricked into coming to a location with the promise that all three factions would be there to begin open discussion towards peace. Instead, he was ambushed.

EMIYA could only laugh brokenly at the irony. Again, he was betrayed by those he sought to protect. Not one of his friends from the Angel, Devil, or Fallen Angel side came to his help or even spoke up for him. The most they offered him was a look full of pity as they watched him get sealed away.

Soon after, war broke out between all three of them which became known as the Great War. Many lives from all three sides were lost which included the Biblical God and the Four Great Satan's. However, it was the loss of innocent humans that would hurt EMIYA the most.

The war eventually came to an end, but still the Counter Guardian EMIYA remained sealed for many more years. However, his story in a far-off parallel world does not end here. In fact, it is only the beginning of the next chapter.
