Chapter 1

Rory POV

The last ten years had been…difficult. After graduating Yale and turning down Logan's proposal, I spent the next year and a half traveling around the country on Obama's campaign trail. It definitely wasn't an easy time for me. I had gone from having a group of friends to losing everyone. When Logan walked away not only did I lose him but I also lost all of them (Colin, Finn, Steph, Rosemary & Juliet). Six months after I'd been on the campaign trail, I was in San Francisco when I ran into Logan at a press event. He'd told me that it didn't work out with the startup company and that he was back working for his dad running their San Francisco paper. He looked happy. We decided to go back to being friends. With that came the return of the rest of the Yale Crew (as I called them). Periodically, I would run into the others.

When the campaign ended, I was offered a job at the Hartford Current. I was excited, I finally had found a job and felt like I could put down some roots. Grandpa helped me buy a condo in Hartford, claiming that he didn't want me to have to worry about anything. I was grateful for all of the help that they'd given me over the years. I dated periodically and Grandma had even set me up a couple of times, but nothing seemed to stick.

Grandpa had finally retired for good so he and Grandma had been doing some traveling (mainly to places that she'd never been). Mom and Luke had gotten back together shortly after I left for the campaign trail and were now engaged (their wedding was coming up). Dad had dated periodically but he had his hands full with Gigi and Francine so his girlfriends didn't tend to stick around more than a couple of months. Paris owned her own medical practice so that kept her pretty busy. Colin was working for his Dad's law firm. Finn was working for his family managing hotels and nightclubs. Steph had her own clothing company that Rosemary modeled for. And Juliet…Juliet was a publicist working out in L.A. We all had our suspicions of who she was spending her time with but nobody ever said anything.

The Chilton reunion was coming up and I wasn't exactly sure how I felt about going. Paris had convinced me to go. She said that it would be my chance to show all of them how far I've come from being the new girl. She had a point. But it still didn't help me shake this feeling that it was a bad idea to go. There was one person that I was curious to see, but I wasn't sure if he'd be there and I definitely wasn't going to ask Paris if he was coming.

When I pulled into the Chilton parking lot, I felt my nerves rising higher. I climbed out of my car and made my way to the front steps where I saw that Paris was waiting for me. "You been here long?" I asked her.

She looked at her watch. "About ten minutes. You ready?" She said.

I let out the breath that I didn't realize that I was holding. "As I will be." I said. We walked inside and signed in. As we made our way through the room, Paris and I talked to people we hadn't seen in years. While she was talking to Madeline and Louise I excused myself and made my way to the bar. I ordered my martini and waited. The bartender had just handed me my drink when I heard someone say my name. I turned around saw the one person that I had been thinking about since Paris had mentioned the reunion. "Tristan." I said, trying to hide the smile that I really wanted to show.

"Rory Gilmore. Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world you walk into mine." Tristan said. I couldn't help but smile at that point. "How are you?" He asked me.

I took a drink of my martini. "I'm good. How are you?" I smirked.

He smirked back. "Better now. Wanna get some food and catch up?" He asked and I nodded.

Tristan and I made our way towards the door and out to the parking lot. We headed to this little hole in the wall taco place that I liked to go to. When I parked my car, he was leaning against the side of his car. When I climbed out of the car, he was smiling. "Do you want to eat here or do you want to get it and we can take it back to my place and we can talk?" I asked him.

"We can get it to go." He said. I nodded.

We went inside and ordered our food. When it was ready he followed me to my house. When we pulled into my driveway and saw the car that was there I suddenly got pissed. When I climbed out of my car, Tristan met me at the front of my car. I looked at him apologetically. "I'm sorry about this." I said and he raised an eyebrow confused. We walked through the front door to my house. "Charlie! Where the hell are you?" I yelled pointing for Tristan to go to my living room.

Charlie came walking out from the back of my condo. "I didn't think that you'd be back this soon." He said.

"What are you doing here?" I asked him.

"I came to get the rest of my stuff." He said.

"Give me my key back." I told him. He took the key off his key ring and placed it on the bar in the kitchen. "You should have called. Now if you need anything else you can call my Dad." I told him, holding the front door open for him.

He shook his head. "I don't know what happened to you. You weren't like this when we first met." Charlie said.

"Yeah and I didn't know that you were a liar and a cheater." I said. I watched Charlie walk out my front door and I slammed the door behind him. I took a couple of deep breaths and then headed into the living room where Tristan was waiting for me. "I'm sorry about that. He was supposed to have already had his stuff out." I told him.

"It's okay. What's the story there?" He asked, as we unpacked the food.

"Grandma had set us up and so we went out for a while. I honestly thought that he was a good guy. He'd moved in with me and things were going great until I came home and he was screwing my maid." I told him. He looked skeptical so I explained. "I stay busy so Grandma offered a maid a couple times a week." I told him. "Anyway, can we change the subject?" I asked and he nodded.

"I need to apologize." He said.

"What for?" I asked.

"For the way that I treated you at Chilton." He said.

It reminded me of a conversation that we had about two and a half years ago. "You already did or did you forget." I said. I turned on the couch so that I was facing him.

He reached for my hand and I hesitantly let him grab it. "How could I forget? That was the best weekend of my life." Tristan said.

"How's Boston?" I asked him.

"I guess it's great but I'm not there anymore." He said.

I looked up at him surprised. "What?" I asked.

"I left my father's firm. I'm back in Hartford." He said.

I couldn't believe this. I thought about the things that Tristan and I had talked about during my weekend in Boston. We were never able to make things match up because he was in Boston and I was starting my life here in Hartford but now he was here. "What does that mean?" I asked him. I needed more answers.

"Your father hired me." He said.

"My father?" I said.

He nodded. "Yeah. I explained to him, that I'd quit my father's firm and that I was moving back to Hartford because I was madly in love with his daughter and that I had been since I was seventeen." Tristan said.

"You said that to my Dad?" I asked and he nodded.

"Does anyone else know about this?" I asked him, knowing how close he and Logan used to be…being the fact that their cousins. That was another reason why we hadn't been able to make anything match up.

"Yes. Logan and Steph both know." He said.

"You told Steph?" I asked.

He nodded rubbing a hand over his face. "Can you say something besides asking me questions?" He asked.

I sat there in shock. "I just don't know what to really say. I mean, when I was in Boston and you found out about Logan you told me you didn't know if we could be together despite being in love with me." I said.

"I know what I said." Tristan snapped. "I'm sorry." He said. I stood up and walked to the kitchen. I needed a drink. I pulled my bottle of whiskey out of my freezer and poured a shot. Tristan had followed me into the kitchen. I was leaning against my counter when I felt his hands on my hips. He rested his chin on my shoulder. "Please talk to me. Tell me what you're thinking." He said.

I turned in his arms and looked up at him. "Are you sure that this is what you want?" I asked him, barely above a whisper.

He put his hands on each side on my face. "I've never wanted anything more." He said before he crashed his lips to mine.

My arms quickly found his neck and he pulled me closer to him and picking me up so that I could wrap my legs around his waist. He walked us back to the living room and he sat on the couch with me in his lap so that I was straddling him. My hands quickly found his hair and his hands went back to my hips. We stayed like that until breathing became necessary. When I pulled back I leaned my forehead against his. "I want this too." I said.
