Hay, so before you read this story, I would like to say this is a Imperial RWBY AU Fanfiction where Atlas has taken over the majority Remnant, and their will be pretty dark points in the story. I will put a disclaimer at the beginning of each chapter that deals with darker elements, such as suicide, geniside, and police brutality, and torture. having said that, please enjoy Shadows of Remnant.
Prologue
Midnight Karo POV:
The hallways of Beacon Academy were silent, a stark contrast to the bustling school it once was. The Atlas Empire's banner hung proudly, signifying their control over the once-free institution. As the heavy doors creaked open, sunlight flooded in, and I had to squint as my eyes adjusted to the sudden brightness. As my eyes adjusted to the light, I noticed a crowd of people in the courtyard. They had formed a pathway leading to the end of the courtyard, and at the far end of that pathway stood a row of gallows.
Just as I was taken aback by the shocking sight, a guard forcefully pushed me down the steps. I stumbled and fell to the ground, the same guard picked me up and pushed me forward all while the crowd erupted into cheers. "LET HIM HANG!" someone yelled, "KILL THE TRAITOR!" another one yelled.
"Midnight Karo, for the crimes against the Atlas Empire, you have been sentenced to death," the executioner said, her hat covering her eyes in shadows. "What are your last words?"
I had noticed a cloaked figure moving through the crowd. And with a smirk, I responded to the executioner, "You all came to hear me beg for my life, but I won't beg for forgiveness, for I have done nothing wrong."
Myst Silver's POV:
I positioned myself on one of the rooftops overlooking the courtyard, my sniper rifle at the ready. Through the scope, I had a clear view of the gallows, and my crosshairs were fixed on the rope being tied around Midnight's neck.
"I'm in position," I said quietly into my earpiece, adjusting my scope for the perfect shot. "Kera, you ready?"
"Ready," Kera's voice came through softly, trying to remain discreet. "Just don't miss your shot."
A confident grin spread across my face as I replied, "You know I don't miss." As the trap door under Midnight's feet swung open, I took my shot.
Kera Shadowhart POV:
As Midnight landed with a thud, I pushed my way through the crowd. The Atlas soldiers began searching for the source of the shot, but the Executioner remained to finish off Midnight. She swiftly drew an Atlassian revolver and leaped through a trapdoor.
During the courtyard's chaos, I knew I had to act quickly. Slipping through the shifting crowd, I clenched a hard-light throwing knife in my hand, ready to take action. The tension in the courtyard's air was palpable, and the urgency of the situation weighed on my shoulders.
As the Atlas soldiers fanned out across the courtyard, their expressions a mix of confusion and determination, the Executioner remained focused on Midnight. The revolver gleamed in her hand, a deadly instrument of justice in this twisted world.
Without hesitation, I raised my arm and let the hard-light throwing knife fly. It sliced through the courtyard, its glow illuminating the open space, and struck the Executioner's hand. She cried out in pain, her grip on the revolver loosening, and the weapon clattered to the cobblestone ground.
As I got to the base of Gallows I threw the cloak I was wearing into the air and slid under one of the metal bars that held the structure together. Grabbing the revolver that lay on the ground I pointed it at the Executioner who was holding her hand as the hard light started to shimmer and dissipate. As she looked over to me light finally touched her eyes, they were a pretty Slate-blue. Right before she pulled herself out of the pain she rushed me. I closed my eyes before pulling the trigger.
BANG!
The gunshots rang in my ears, as I watched the executioner fall back gasping for air hand holding her chest starting to stain her white uniform a dark crimson. I stood up, rushed over to Midnight activated another hard-light blade, and cut Midnight's bindings.
Midnight Pov:
"What took you so long?" I asked rubbing my sore wrists.
"OH, you know, we wanted to put on a show," Kera replied, handing me the Atlesin revolver and a spare earpiece. "We should probably get out of here before more soldiers show."
As if on queue, three Atlesin soldiers began firing at us. Both me and Kera rushed to find cover behind a few stone pullers. "Fuck, they don't give up do they?" Myst shouting over our comms.
With a deep breath, I harnessed the power of my Semblance, a shadowy mist enveloping my form as I vanished from sight. Swift as a whisper in the night, I reappeared behind the unsuspecting soldiers, my weapon poised for action. Without hesitation, I discharged a deadly round into the helmeted head of the first, splattering their brains inside the protective shell.
Before the fallen soldier could hit the ground, I shifted my aim, squeezing off two more shots in a blur of lethal precision. The first shot shattered the aura of the soldier to my left, leaving them vulnerable, and the second ensured their demise. Disposing of my now-empty revolver with a casual flick, it struck the last soldier, throwing her off balance and disorientating her. I closed the gap in an instant, swiftly disarming her and breaking her arm in the process. With one hand, I delivered a point-blank shot, ending her threat with ruthless efficiency.
"Damn," Kera said as her and Myst ran up to me, "I'm glad you're on our side." her wolf ears finly relaxed.
"We need to find a way out fast," I said as I looked around, spotting an Atlesian aircraft nearby. "Let's go for that aircraft."We made our way through the chaos, weaving between fleeing bystanders and soldiers who were still trying to regain their composure. Reaching the aircraft, Myst expertly bypassed the security measures, and we climbed inside. With the engine roaring to life, Kera took the pilot's seat, and I sat beside her. Myst handled the onboard weaponry, ready to defend our escape. The aircraft lifted off the ground, soaring into the night sky, leaving Beacon Academy and the chaos below. As we flew away, I couldn't help but feel a sense of defiance and determination. The Atlesian Empire's grip on Beacon Academy might be strong, but we had just stolen their aircraft and escaped their clutches. Our journey had only just begun, and the future held countless challenges, mysteries, and battles to be fought.
