(Boston QZ)
It was midday by the time the buses came into the Boston QZ, annoying 14-year-old Enid Johnson. It wasn't anything new because a majority of these assholes give her a hard time.
However, this time, it'd have a passenger on it that she wouldn't have expected.
She rounded a corner and saw a familiar face step off of that bus. A face she hasn't seen in a few years that had a scar over her right eyebrow.
It was none other than Ellie Williams, her best friend. At first, Ellie didn't see Enid because she was talking to one of the soldiers.
Ellie walked away, clearly untrusting of the soldiers there. "Whatever. I can take care of myself," she muttered.
"Hey! Ellie!" Enid called out from behind her. Ellie stopped in her tracks right away and turned around slowly to see who had called her.
"You didn't think I'd let ya walk right by me without a hello, didn't ya?" Enid laughed, walking up to her best friend. Ellie's green eyes became wide in surprise when they met Enid's for the first time in a few years.
"Enid? There's no way," Ellie said, running over to hug her. "Way, girl. What the hell are you doing here?" Enid asked after they hugged.
"Just got transferred here," Ellie shrugged, not able to hide the happy grin on her face. "What'd you do this time?" Enid asked suspiciously, knowing that Ellie had to have done something to get transferred.
Ellie gave a face that showed that something had happened but was suddenly punched in the face by another kid before she could get a word out. The punch was hard enough to knock her to the ground.
"Ellie!" Enid shouted and she looked over at the assailant. It was a boy about a few years older than Enid. His knuckles were bloody from punching Ellie in the nose.
"You bastard!" She growled and lunged at him with a raised fist. However, she was grabbed by another friend of the bully's. "Let go of me, you fuck!" Enid shouted when his arm wrapped around her neck.
"Fuck! Your friend has gotta be the dumbest new kid to ever step off of that bus! Pick her up!" He growled at them. Another bully picked Ellie and the same way Enid was held.
"I warned you not to touch my stuff," Ellie grunted, shooting him a death glare, "I would've gotten my licks if I knew how fragile you were,"
The bully growled and grabbed the 13-year-old by the front of her hot pink hoodie and yanked her forward. "Hey! Let her go!" Enid shouted.
"You shut the fuck up! I'm gonna take what I want then I'm gonna kick her ass!" The bully shouted, raising his fist to punch Ellie. Enid felt a rage boil inside of her. 'That's it!' She thought dangerously and she elbows her captor in the ribs to make him release her.
She rushes over and grabs him by the wrist. "I don't think so, asshole," she said to him. The bully looks back at her in shock. She then twists his arm behind his back and kicks him in the back of the knee. Both of his legs buckle and he falls over with a loud grunt.
She forcefully pulls him over onto his back and stands on his back. "Agh! You little b-" he growled, trying to get up. But Enid punched him right in the nose, making it bleed.
Enid then picks him up with both fists grasping his jacket. "You listen to me and you listen good. If you touch my best friend again, then I'll let you decide what bone I should break," Enid threatened him. That was enough to scare the bully off.
He ran off like a scared little girl. "There. That oughta take care of him. You okay, El?" Enid said, extending a hand to help Ellie up. Ellie gratefully took her hand.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I don't remember you being that good of a fighter," Ellie said while she picked up her things. "Let's just say I had a lot of time on my hands," Enid replied as she helped Ellie with her stuff.
Enid picked up Ellie's walkman and smiled in nostalgia. "You still have this thing?" Enid asked her. "Hell yeah. It never leaves my side," Ellie replied as she took her Walkman.
"Guess your taste in music hasn't changed much?" Enid asked. "Nope. How about yours?" Ellie asked. "Nope. Still the same. Let's keep it safe from these assholes, huh? What do you say? Let's watch each other's back like before," Enid added, nudging Ellie in the ribs.
"Oh, yeah, look what happened last time," Ellie said, smiling sheepishly at her friend. "Hey, at least we don't have to worry about-" Enid replied but the loud sound of someone clearing their throat cut her off.
Enid closed her eyes and inwardly groaned. 'Here we go…' she thought out of irritance, knowing who it was. She and Ellie looked behind them and saw it was the Sergeant standing behind them.
"My office. Now," he told them in a commanding yet irritated tone.
Decided to rewrite this take on Ellie and Enid's backstory. Since I rewrote my first story on TLOU, I figured this needed a rewrite too.
The Last of Us is the property of Naughty Dog. Enid belongs to me.
