I am currently sitting at my vanity finishing up my makeup. I kept it simple today black eyeliner and black mascara with some pink lip gloss. I just feel like being a little basic today. I am wearing a purple sweater, dark jeans, and black fuzzy boots. My hair is already curled so I am almost ready to go.

As I am finishing up my lip gloss my sister barges into my room and says, "Did you take my Macy Gray CD?"

I shake my head and say, "No, I didn't. When did you have it last?"

She says, "I was listening to it in my room the other day. I thought I left it in my CD player."

I shrug and say, "Mom probably has it. Speaking of which, we have to go meet mom, we'll look for it later on."

She nods and says, "Are you ready to go?"

I check myself in the mirror once more before saying, "Yes, let's go before mom drinks all the coffee." We grab our stuff and head out to Luke's diner.

On the way there we talk about our latest history assignment that we both managed to finish last night. When we get to Luke's we instantly go to the table mom has saved for us. Rory says, "Hey, it's freezing."

I say, "Hey and it is freezing, but I'm glad to have an excuse to wear this cozy sweater and these boots."

Mom says, "You look amazing hon. What do you guys need? Hot tea, coffee?"

I say, "Coffee."

Rory says, "Lip gloss."

I say, "We were just at home you could have borrowed literally any of mine. The only one I have in my purse is the glittery one you don't like."

Mom says, "Aha."

Rory says, "I know Ro, but I wasn't going to wear any today, but the chapped lips kind of changed my mind." I just laugh at her.

Mom picks up her big bag and pulls out her makeup bag. She says, "I have vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, and toasted marshmallow."

I say, "I am so jealous I ran out of chocolate."

Rory ignores me and says, "Anything in there not resembling a breakfast cereal?"

Mom pulls out another makeup bag and says, "Yes, It has no smell, but it changes color with your mood."

Rory says, "RuPaul doesn't need this much makeup."

Mom says, "Well you're crabby."

Rory says, "I'm sorry. I lost my Macy Gray CD and I need caffeine."

Mom says, "Oof, I have your CD."

I say, "I told you mom probably had it."

Rory says, "Thief."

Mom says, "You know me well Rose. Sorry, I'll get you both some coffee."

I watch mom go over to Luke and see him giving mom his Luke look. He probably thinks both cups of coffee are for mom. My vision of mom and Luke is suddenly blocked by a random guy standing in front of me.

He leans on the table in front of me and says, "Hello, may I just say you are gorgeous."

I say, "Thank you."

The guy goes on and says, "I'm just traveling through on my way to Hartford."

I say, "Interesting, well I hope you have safe travels." That was the nicest hint I could give this poor guy.

He says, "Yeah, I've never been through here before." I breathe a sigh of relief as I see my mom walk up behind him.

Mom says, "Oh, you have, too."

He looks back at my mom and says, "Oh, hi." Clearly he hit on my mom first. Wrong age group guy. You're too old for me and too young for my mom. My mom's not old, but this guy is clearly immature.

Mom says, "Oh, hi. You really like my table don't you?"

The guy stutters, "I was just, uh.." Mom sets down mine and Rory's coffees in front of us while this guy stutters.

My mom says, "Getting to know my daughters."

The guy says, "Your.."

Rory and I say, "Are you our new daddy?"

The guy, who still can't take a hint, says, "Wow. You do not look old enough to have daughters. No, I mean it."

He then turns back to me and says, "And you do not look like a daughter."

Mom says, "That's possibly very sweet of you. Thanks."

The guy still doesn't leave. He says, "So daughters? You know, I am traveling with friends?" Dude, how slow are you?

Mom says, "They're 16."

He says, "Bye."

Mom says, "Drive safe." Once they're gone we all look at each other and laugh.

I say, "That guy could not take a hint. That was painful to witness."

Mom nods and says, "Yeah, that took more effort than it should have." We order breakfast and spend the rest of our time in the diner laughing and having fun together.

That day I go to two of my dance classes at Miss Patty's. Once I finish with those I rush over to Luke's to work my shift. I love dancing. It's so much fun and working for Luke funds my shopping habit. Plus I am trying to build up my savings for when I go to college so if I don't want to work I don't have to stress about it.

The next day I do simple makeup again black eyeliner, black mascara, and red lip gloss. I'm also wearing black skinny jeans with black heeled boots and an off the shoulder burgundy sweater. I also plan to wear a gray leather jacket with the outfit. My hair is curly again today like yesterday.

Once I'm ready Rory and I head over to Mom's inn to see her. When Rory and I walk in we head straight to mom. As we get closer to her I hear her say, "Talk to me about room four. What was wrong with it?"

She pulls the phone away from her mouth as she smiles at us and says, "Kiss."

She kisses our cheeks quickly before saying, "Uh-huh? I thought you replaced that already. Well, because you told me you did and I never forget anything. So this one's on you right? Pleasure doing business with you."

While mom is on the phone Rory and I make our way behind the desk and start digging for stamps. Once mom is off the phone Michel says, "What is your offspring doing?"

I say, "We need stamps."

Rory says, "Can we have these?"

Michel says, "No."

Mom says, "Take them. What's with the muumuu?"

Rory says, "Stop."

I say, "Be nice." But I can't help but laugh a little.

Mom says, "No, I'm just saying, you couldn't find one made of metal in case anyone has X-ray eyes?" I just laugh. I love my mom's humor.

Rory says, "And now we say goodbye."

Mom turns to me and says, "I love your outfit and I will be borrowing it soon. In fact I want to borrow those shoes tomorrow."

I laugh and say, "I'll do a trade the shoes for something from your closet of my choosing."

Mom says, "Done!" Mom, Rory, and I are constantly trading clothes and shoes around. Mom and I do it a little more than Rory, because we have the same fashion sense.

I say, "See you later mom."

She says, "Hey, have Michel look at your French papers before you go."

Michel says, "Excuse me?"

I say, "That'd be great."

Michel says, "No."

Rory says, "Come on, Michel. I'll tell all the ladies what a stud you are."

Michel says, "I believe that memo has already been sent."

I say, "Please Michel. I'll help Sookie make your favorite French dish."

He says, "No, I am trying to lose some weight."

Mom says in a terrible French accent, "Oh, please, Michel. Pretty please with sucre on top. I will stop talking like this."

Michel says, "Leave them. I'll look at them if I get a chance."

I say, "It's due tomorrow."

Rory says, "And pay special attention to the grammar." We smile at Mom once more before we head out the door to meet up with our best friend Lane before school starts.

Once we meet up with Lane we start in the direction of school. As we are making our way to school Rory is holding Lane's backpack while Lane changes. Rory says, "When are you going to let your parents know that you listen to the evil rock music? You're an American teenager for God's sake."

I say, "Rory, have you met her parents like I have? They'd never ever let her leave the house again."

Lane nods and says, "Rory, if my parents still get upset over the obscene portion size of American food, I seriously doubt I'm gonna make any inroads with Eminem. I have to go to that."

I look over at the flier she nods to. Rory says, "The hayride?"

I say, "You're kidding."

Lane says, "My parents set me up with the son of a business associate. He's gonna be a doctor."

I say, "How old is he?"

Lane says, "16."

Rory says, "So he's gonna be a doctor in a hundred years."

I say, "If he even manages to get into med school."

Lane says, "Well, my parents like to plan ahead."

Rory says, "You have to go to the hayride with him?"

Lane says, "And his older brother."

I say, "Now you're kidding."

Lane says, "Koreans never joke about future doctors. So, I guess you guys are not going huh?"

I say, "Not really my thing."

Rory nods and says, "No, I'm still fuzzy on what's fun about sitting in the cold for two hours with a bundle sticks up your butt."

Lane says, "Don't expect me to clear it up for you." We all laugh as we continue to make our way into school.

Rory and I are sitting in our English class listening to our teacher talk. Our teacher says, "For those of you who have not finished the final chapters of Huckleberry Finn you may use this time to do so. For those of you who have, you can start on your essay now. Whichever task you choose, do it silently."

Rory and I have already finished reading the book so we both begin working on our essays. I hear the girls around us gossiping about what we could be writing, but they lose interest quickly when they realize it's just the assignment. Rory and I both love school and we work very hard in school even if those around us don't.

After school Rory, Lane, and I were walking to Lane's house. We are currently telling Lane about the girls who were painting their nails around us while we did our assignment.

Lane says, "Well, was it a good color at least?"

I say, "I didn't really care for it. It had sparkles so I liked that part."

Rory nods and Lane says, "Wow."

Rory says, "And it smelled like bubblegum when it dried."

I say, "Which is a little bit of overkill and that's coming from me, who has chocolate lip gloss."

Lane says, "Oh, well, there's no way Mark Twain can compete with that." We all just laugh together. After we finish talking about the nail polish we make our way into Kim's antiques which not only is Lane's family business, but it's also where she lives.

Once we walk inside Lane says, "Mom, we're home." We don't hear a clear reply, but a faint sound. Lane turns to us and says, "Did you hear something?"

Rory says, "I'm not sure."

I say, "Yeah, but I couldn't make out what it was."

Lane tries again, "Mom are you here?"

We hear, "We're open. Everything's half off."

Rory says, "We have contact."

I say, "Now we just need to locate her."

Lane says, "Mom?"

Mrs. Kim calls back, "Lane?"

Lane says, "Mom?"

Mrs. Kim says, "Lane?"

Lane says, "Mom where are you?"

Mrs. Kim says, "Lane, where are you?" We are getting nowhere fast. I love Lane, but I have no clue how she lives here. This maze would stress me out. It's cool they have all these interesting old antiques, though.

Lane says, "Back here."

Mrs. Kim says, "Over here."

Rory says, "I think she's that way."

I say, "How can you possibly tell?" Rory just shrugs.

Lane says, "Are we closer?"

Mrs. Kim says, "I'm by the table?" Seriously?

I say, "She's kidding right? There are a hundred tables here."

Lane says, "Look, we'll meet you in the kitchen!"

Mrs. Kim says, "What?"

Rory calls, "The kitchen!"

Mrs. Kim says, "Who's that?" Well this will be fun.

Lane says, "It's Rory and Aurora mom." Mrs. Kim will call Rory by her nickname, but she will not call me anything, but Aurora. Which is fine. I love my name. I love my nicknames too, but I am fine if anyone wants to call me by my name.

Mrs. Kim says, "Oh."

I say, "Woah, I can feel the disappointment from here."

Lane says, "Come on. Stop it."

Rory says, "You know it sucks that after all these years your mom still hates us."

Lane says, "She doesn't hate you guys."

I say, "She hates our mother and probably me a little bit."

Lane says, "She doesn't trust unmarried women. And Rose, you remind her too much of your mother."

Rory says, "You're unmarried."

Lane says, "I'm hayriding with a future proctologist. I have potential."

As soon as we walk into the kitchen Mrs. Kim is there, she says, "Go upstairs. Tea is ready. I have muffins with no dairy, no sugar, no wheat. You have to soak them in tea to make them soft enough to bite, but they're very healthy. So, how was school? None of the girls get pregnant, drop out?" She looks at me when she say pregnant. Seriously? So rude.

Lane says, "Not that we know of."

Rory says, "Though come to think of it Joanna Posner was glowing a little."

I nudge Rory. This is why Mrs. Kim hates us. Mrs. Kim says, "What?"

Lane says, "Nothing mama."

I say, "She's just kidding."

Mrs. Kim says, "Boys don't like funny girls." I'm pretty sure they do. A relationship where you don't make each other laugh would be so boring.

Rory and I look at each other before we both say, "Noted."

The door opens and we hear a man say, "Hello? Is anybody here?"

Mrs. Kim says, "We're here. We're coming." She turns to us and says, "Have the muffins. Made from sprouted wheat. Only good 24 hours." She then calls back to the customer, "Everything's half off!"

The customer calls back, "Where are you?"

Mrs. Kim says, "Over here."

The customer says, "Where?"

Mrs. Kim says, "By the chair."

The customer says, "What chair?"

I turn to Lane and say, "She needs a better system."

Lane nods and says, "Yeah she really does. Let's take the tea and muffins upstairs and pretend to eat them."

I nod and say, "I'm all for pretending, but I will not actually eat those."

Rory nods and says, "Same."

We head up to Lane's room and study for a while. After we study we talk more about our days. It wasn't a particularly exciting day at Star Highs Hollow High. After a while it was time to head home for the night.

When we get home we watch movies with mom while we eat pizza. We all talk about our day and she gives us our French papers. She annoyed Michel until he finally looked at them. He gave some minor changes that we needed to make, but that was all.

The next day I am wearing a dark pair of skinny jeans, mom's black ankle heeled boots, and a cute form fitting purple sweater with a black leather jacket. My makeup is the same as yesterday.

The school day is once again slow and boring. The work is way too easy and the kids don't really care about it. I don't work today nor do I have any classes at Miss Patty's.

We head to mom's Inn to see her. Once we get there we don't see her up front so we walk over to Michel. I ask, "Have you seen our mom, Michel?"

He sighs very dramatically and says, "I believe I heard squealing in the kitchen so she is probably there."

I say, "Thank you Michel."

We head to the kitchen as we walk through the door we see mom and Sookie squealing.

Rory calls, "Mom." To get her attention. As soon as they notice us they stop squealing and straighten up.

Rory says, "You're happy."

Mom says, "Yeah."

I say, "Did you do something slutty?" This is just a joke. I don't look down on anyone for their choices nor do I judge them for anything. I love my mom and we have an odd sense of humor with each other.

Mom says, "I'm not that happy." Mom and Sookie just laugh while we stand there confused.

Mom hands us each a bag and says, "Here."

I say, "What's going on?"

Mom says, "Open it."

We open up the bag and pull out plaid skirts. Rory says, "We're going to be in a Britney Spears video?"

Sookie can't hold it anymore she blurts out, "You guys are going to Chilton!" Mom smacks her arm and Sookie says, "Oh, sorry."

We turn to mom and I say, "Mom?"

Mom says, "You both did it, babes. You got in!"

Rory says, "How did this happen? You didn't, with the principal, did you?"

Mom says, "No, honey that was a joke. They have two open spots. You're gonna start on Monday. Rora I already got Luke and Patty to agree to give you the first two weeks off to adjust to your new schedule."

I smile and say, "Thank you so much mom!" She really has thought of everything!

Rory says, "Really?"

Mom says, "Really."

I say, "I don't believe this."

Rory says, "Oh my God, We're going to Chilton!" I hug mom then Rory hugs mom. While Rory is hugging mom I hug Sookie.

I say, "Sookie, We're going to Chilton!"

Sookie says, "I'll make cookies!"

Rory says, "We have to call Lane!"

We go to leave the kitchen, but then we rush back to give mom one more big hug. We both say, "We love you!"

Mom says, "I love you guys too!"

We then rush off to call Lane. Once Mrs. Kim finally puts her on the phone we tell her and she squeals with us. We tell her all we know about the school and how excited we are to go. We also tell her how much we are going to miss her. She tells us she will miss us too.

After a while Mrs. Kim makes Lane get off the phone. Rory and I spend hours talking about Chilton and how excited we are to be going. We talk about what classes we think we'll be taking and what the teachers will be like. We are both so excited.

The next day I wear a burgundy pair of skinny jeans and a black sweater that sits off one shoulder and my gray leather jacket again. I wear the same makeup except with some sparkly gray eyeshadow with it too. School is a boring affair, but I manage to get most of my locker cleared out. After school I work a short shift at Luke's because he needs a little extra help.

Now Rory and I are trying on our skirts for school. Rory's skirt goes to her knees, but I had mom teach me how to hem and sew, so mine is as short as the school will allow.

Rory calls, "Mom!"

I say, "So what do you think?"

Sookie says, "Wow, it makes you look smart. And Ro you look so cute."

Rory says, "Ok, no more wine for you. Mom?"

Mom says, "Rory, you look like you were swallowed by a kilt. Rose, good job! You did so good on your skirt!"

I say, "Thanks mom! I tried to hem Rory's for her, but she didn't want me to. Try to convince her please."

Rory sighs and says, "Fine, you can hem it. A little. Maybe a little longer than Sleeping Beauty's over here."

Mom claps and says, "Ooh."

I say, "Rude. I think my skirt is really cute."

Rory ignores me and says, "Only a little."

Mom says, "Or I could hem it a lot."

I say, "Yes! Hem it a lot. Like mine."

Rory says, "No I don't want it too short. It's cute on you Ro, but that's not really my style."

I nod and say, "Fair enough. I can't believe tomorrow's our last day at Stars Hollow High."

Mom says, "I know!"

Rory says, "Today I was so excited I dressed for gym."

Mom gasps and says, "You're kidding."

Rory says, "And I played volleyball."

I say, "With other people?"

Rory says, "And I learned all this time I was avoiding group sports?"

Mom says, "Yeah."

Rory finishes, "Was really smart 'cause I suck at them."

Mom says, "Well, yeah, you got that from me. Miss freak of nature athletic dancer over there did not get that from me, but she didn't get it from your dad either."

I say, "I am right here. It is not my fault that neither one of you can dance. I tried to teach you both."

Sookie walks into the living room and says, "Where's your pate?"

Mom says, "At Zsa Zsa Gabor's house."

Sookie says, "Right, I'm going to the store because you have nothing. You feel like duck?"

Mom says, "If it's made with chicken, absolutely."

I say, "I second that."

Sookie says, "I'll be back."

Mom says, "Bye."

Mom, who has been trying to pin Rory's skirt, so she knows where to hem it, this whole time says, "Alright. This will give you an idea. Go see how you like it." It's a little longer than mine, but shorter than it was. It's perfect for Rory.

Rory says, "Okay! I love that we're private school girls now!" Mom smiles at us as we rush over to Rory's room to look at her skirt.

Rory turns to me and says, "I love it! I'm sorry I picked on you about your skirt. It looks very good on you!"

I smile and say, "I get it Rory. We are twins and we are very similar, but we do have our differences and that's ok. You expect me to geek out over the journalist you love and I don't expect you to come to dance classes with me."

She smiles at me and says, "You are the best sister ever!"

I say, "Right back at you!" We share a nice sister hug.

We gush over our skirts and new school for a while longer. When Sookie gets back she cooks us a big dinner. We all eat together and watch movies. Just another normal day at the Gilmore house. Eventually, I head to my room to try to get some sleep. It's pretty hard because I am just so excited.

The next day I am getting ready and I decide to go all out, since it is my last day at Stars Hollow High. I do a smokey eye eyeshadow, black eyeliner, black mascara, extra glitter, and red lipstick. I wear a red v-neck sweater dress with black knee high heeled boots. I also have my black leather jacket.

Rory and I head to school talking all about Chilton and how ready we are to start our new school. The day goes by so slowly. Finally, after what seems like days, we are done with the school day.

We are currently at Rory's locker while she finishes cleaning it out. I already finished cleaning mine out. Lane and I are currently listening to Rory list all of the good qualities of Chilton.

Rory says, "And we get to wear uniforms. No more having people check you out to see what jeans you're wearing 'cause everyone's dressed alike in boring clothes and just there to learn."

Lane says, "Ok, there's academic-minded and then there's amish."

I say, "Rory, it is a really good school and there will definitely be more people there who care more about school like we do, but there will also be people there that don't care about school. They have rich families and go there because they have too, not because they want to."

Rory says, "Funny," to Lane. And turns to me and says, "I know, you're right. I'm just excited to see people who actually care about school like we do."

I say, "I know. Just wanted to manage your expectations."

Lane says, "Thank you. So I told my mom you guys are changing schools."

Rory says, "Was she thrilled?"

Lane says, "The party's on Friday. I gotta go. I have to have a pre-hayride cup of tea with a future doctor. How do I look? Korean?"

Rory says, "Spitting imagine."

I say, "You look great."

Lane says, "Good, bye."

Rory and I say, "Bye."

Rory drops some things so we crouch down to get them. As we are picking up her stuff someone stands over us. Rory says, "God! You're like Ruth Gordon just standing there with a tannis root. Make a noise."

I look up and see a guy I don't recognize as he says, "Rosemary's baby." Rory looks up at him too and I can see sparks fly.

Rory says, "Yeah."

The guy says, "Well that's a great movie. You've got good taste." Rory suddenly gets all shy. The guy says, "Are you moving?"

Rory says, "No, just our books are."

The guy says, "My family just moved here from Chicago." I think Rory has her first potential boyfriend. I had a boyfriend last year. He was a good guy, but his family decided to move and we knew long distance wasn't very realistic.

Rory says, "Chicago. Windy. Oprah."

The guy says, "Yeah. Yeah, that's the place. I'm Dean."

Rory says, "Hi." The guy looks at her expectantly and I nudge her. Rory says, "Oh, Rory. Me. That's- that's me. And this is Rora or Ro or Rose my-my sister."

Dean says, "Rory."

Rory rambles, "Well, Lorelai and Aurora technically."

Dean says, "Lorelai, I like that."

Rory says, "Lorelai is our mother's name, too. She named me after herself and Rora after her favorite princess and how she would have rather been sleeping than in childbirth. She was lying in the hospital thinking about how men name boys after themselves all the time. So why couldn't women? She says her feminism just kind if took over. Though personally, I think a lot of Demerol also went into that decision. " Wow she can ramble fast.

Rory pauses for a second then says, "I never talk this much."

I say, "I'm her twin sister as she told you. My name is Aurora, but people tend to call me nicknames. I don't care either way. It's nice to meet you Dean."

Dean nods to me and says, "Nice to meet you Aurora." He turns back to Rory and says, "Well, I better go."

Rory says, "Oh, sure."

Dean says, "I have to go look for a job."

Rory says, "Ok, good." Dean starts to walk away.

I nudge Rory and say, "Tell him to check with Miss Patty."

She nods and turns to the direction he started walking in. Rory says, "You should check with Miss Patty."

Dean says, "What?"

I say, "About the job."

Rory says, "You should check with Miss Patty. She teaches dance. She was actually on Broadway once. Aurora takes classes from her."

Dean says, "I- I don't really dance much."

I nudge Rory and she says, "No, no, she kind of knows everything that's going on in town. She'll know if someone's looking."

I say, "Miss Patty knows everything and anything about this town. She'll be able to help you."

Dean says, "Oh, great. Uh, thanks. Hey, what are you doing now?"

Rory says, "Nothing, much. I should throw this away at some point."

Dean says, "Maybe you could show me where this Miss Patty's place is."

Rory says, "Yeah, I guess so. I really don't have anything important to.. Let's go." She then turns to me and says, "Do you want to come to Rora?"

I smile and say, "No, I have some things I need to do, but you guys go. Have fun."

Rory says, "Ok I'll see you at home later."

Dean picks up Rory's box and they head off to Miss Patty's so freaking cute. I grab my stuff and head home. We're supposed to meet mom at Luke's later, but I have plenty of time to do some reading. I'm trying to make sure I'm up to date on our new school so I have been reading Shakespeare and anything else I think might be useful.

When it's time to meet mom and Rory at Luke's I head over. When I get there I see they haven't arrived yet. I grab a table for us and order some hot chocolate. I love Coffee, but I like to switch it up every now and then and drink something else.

Rory arrives first. She rushes over to me and says, "Dean is so nice and fun and cool!"

I smile and say, "I'm glad you had fun with him. Do you want to wait to tell me the details for mom to get here?"

Rory says, "I don't think I'm ready to tell mom about him yet, but can I tell you and you not tell her until I'm ready?"

I say, "I don't know why you want to keep this from mom. She lives for this. We can both give you advice too, but I promise not to say anything until you are ready. Now tell me everything."

Rory tells me everything about her time with Dean and it sounds so cute. This could be her first boyfriend and I am so happy for her.

Mom walks in and says, "Hello, my beautiful offspring. Are you ready to eat? Because I am starving."

I say, "I just ordered Hot chocolate while I waited for you two. So I definitely am ready to eat."

Rory is no longer bouncy and happy, she's more somber. Rory says, "Yeah I can eat." That's weird, I wonder what that's about.

After we order, mom and I talk about our days. Rory doesn't really contribute to the conversation and I have no idea why. I know she doesn't want to tell mom about Dean, but she's being really weird right now.

Our salads come and we begin to eat. There's an awkward silence which is very rare for us. I'm eating my food, Rory is just twirling hers around her plate and mom is staring at Rory. Mom says, "So you were late getting home tonight. Then you rushed here before I could even talk to you about your day."

Rory says, "Yeah, I went to the library then I rushed here to tell Ro about a book I saw that she would like." Woah she's never lied to mom before. This is not going to end well. I did not think Rory would handle this badly.

I've had a boyfriend before mom was totally chill about it. She was nice to him and he came to movie nights sometimes. I don't know why Rory doesn't want to tell mom about Dean.

Mom says, "I forgot to tell you we're having dinner with your grandparents tomorrow night."

I say, "We are?"

Mom says, "Mhhmm."

Rory says, "But it's september."

Mom says, "So?"

Rory says, "So what holidays in September."

Mom says, "It's not a holiday thing."

Mom would not willingly go to grandma and grandpas unless she had no other choice. Something tells me they have something to do with us going to Chilton. I know this is hard for mom, so I plan to make this as painless as possible. She has gone through a lot to get us into Chilton.

Mom with a slight bit of attitude says, "Look it's not a holiday thing. It's just dinner ok?"

Rory says, "Fine, sorry."

I say, "Mom I have a million things I can tell them to keep all the attention off you, so hopefully we can make this as painless as possible."

Mom smiles at me and says, "Thank you Rose, I really appreciate that."

I say, "I'd do anything for you mom. Plus, I haven't gotten to talk to them much about my dancing. I'm sure grandma would love to hear about it."

Mom smiles and says, "I'm sure she would."

Rory just huffs at us. Before Mom can ask her what her problem is Luke comes and sets down the rest of our food. Luke says, "Red meat can kill you. Enjoy." He sets down our bill and hands me something. Luke says, "Here's your check Rose. Let when you get situated at your new school and we'll work out your new schedule."

I say, "I will thank you Luke." He nods and walks away.

As soon as Luke is gone the awkward silence is back. Mom tries to break it by saying, "So, I finished hemming your skirts today. And Rora I know you did most of yours, but I finished your last one for you."

I smile and say, "Thanks mom. I just got busy and didn't finish it. I appreciate you doing that for me."

Mom turns to Rory and says, "A grunt of acknowledgement might be nice."

Rory says, "I don't understand why we're going to dinner tomorrow night. I mean, what if we had plans? You didn't even ask us."

I say, "Don't bring me into this. If I had plans I would have canceled them. This is obviously important."

Mom says, "Thank you Rose." She then turns to Rory and says, "If you'd had plans I would've known."

Rory says, "How?"

I say, "We would have told her."

Mom nods and says, "Exactly."

Rory says, "I don't tell you everything. I have my own things."

Mom says, "Fine. You have things."

Rory says, "That's right. I have things."

Mom says, "Hey, I had dibs on being the bitch tonight."

Rory says, "Just tonight?"

I gasp and say, "Rory!"

Mom says, "What the hell is wrong with you?"

Rory says, "I'm not sure if I want to go to Chilton."

I say, "Are you insane?" Because of a boy? Who she can see after school, before school, and on weekends. As soon as we are alone I am going off. You don't give up your future just for a boy.

Mom says, "What?"

Rory says, "The timing is just really bad."

Mom says, "The timing is bad?" She turns to me and asks, "Is the timing bad for you too?"

I shake my head and say, "Absolutely not. We've wanted to go to Chilton for so long. The timing is perfect for me."

Rory ignores me and says, "And the bus ride to and from Hartford it's like 30 minutes each way." So?

I say, "Again are you insane? The bus ride is nothing."

Mom says, "I can't believe what I'm hearing."

Rory says, "Plus, I don't think we should be spending that money right now. I mean, I know Chilton's got to be costing you a lot. And to pay it for the two of us? Must be way too much."

Mom says, "Oh, you have no idea." That confirms it for me grandma and grandpa are most likely paying for Chilton. Poor mom. It must have been so hard for her to ask them for help when she never has before.

Rory says, "All of your money should be going towards buying an inn with Sookie."

Mom says, "What about college? What about Harvard? And Yale for your sister?" I have always wanted to go to Yale. It's where grandpa went and other members of our family. It's close to home so I can visit and It is a top tier school.

Rory says, "We don't know that I can't get into Harvard if I stay where I am. Rora can still go to Chilton if the timing makes sense for her. But she could probably still get into Yale from going to Star Hollow High too."

Mom says, "Ok, enough. Enough of this crazy talk, ok? I appreciate your concern, but I have this covered."

Rory says, "I still don't want to go?" Over a boy? I wish she would have met Dean after we started our new school, maybe then we wouldn't be having this problem.

Mom says, "Why?"

Rory says, "Because I don't."

Mom says, "I have to get out of here."

Rory says, "We have to pay first." Mom throws money on the table and we all storm out of Luke's. The people on the hayride pass us as we walk by in silence. We walk towards Miss Patty's where she is teaching a class for kids.

Miss Patty says, "1-2-3. 1-2-3. It's a waltz ladies. Susie, do you have to tinkle? Then uncross your legs darling. Oh, Rory, good. I think I found a job for you male friend."

Mom says, "What male friend?"

Miss Patty says, "They need a stock boy at the supermarket. I already talked to Taylor Doose about him. You just send him around tomorrow."

Rory says, "Ok, thanks."

Mom says, "What male friend?"

Rory just looks around refusing to answer. Miss Patty says, "Oh, he's very cute. You have good taste. Hands in the air not in the nose." Rory storms away and Miss Patty turns to me. She says, "Come back to classes whenever you are ready Rose. You are a fantastic dancer and I know you won't fall behind if you take a break."

I smile and say, "Thanks Miss Patty. I'll definitely be back soon."

Mom follows behind Rory and says, "Oh, you're going have to walk faster than that. You're going to have to turn into freaking Flo-Jo to get away from me."

Miss Patty turns back to her class and says, "1-2-3. 1-2-3." I slowly follow behind mom and Rory not wanting to be in the center of this.

Rory storms into the house and slams the door in moms face. Mom walks in right behind her and I calmly follow mom. Mom says, "This is about a boy. Of course, I can't believe I didn't see it. All those talks about money and bus rides, you got a thing going with a guy, and you don't wanna leave school."

She doesn't even have a thing going with him yet. They literally met today and even if he did notice her before today, she definitely did not notice him. She told me how he'd told her about seeing her around.

Rory says, "I'm going to bed."

Mom says, "God, I'm so dense." She turns to me and asks, "Did you know?"

I say, "Twin code." The twin code is something we came up with. It's for if we ever share something with each other that we don't want others to know about. We rarely ever use it against mom, but mom understands when we do.

Mom nods and turns her attention back to Rory. Mom says, "That should have been my first thought. After all, you're me." Wrong thing to say. Rory isn't going to take that comment well when she's mad, but if mom wasn't mad she wouldn't have said it to a mad Rory.

Rory turns to her and glares as she says, "I'm not you."

Mom says, "Really? Someone willing to throw important life experiences out the window to be with a guy. Sounds like me to me." As much as I want to go to my room and not be a part of this fight, someone has to be here to mediate the two and assess the damage after they part.

Rory says, "Whatever."

Mom says, "So, who is he?"

Rory says, "There's no guy!"

Mom says, "Dark hair, romantic guy, looks a little dangerous?" Not really. Light brown hair, he doesn't seem like he'd be overly romantic, and he definitely doesn't seem dangerous.

Rory says, "This conversation is over!"

Mom says, "Tattoos are good too." Ok that would be my territory. I think tattoos are kind of hot, not that I'd tell my mom that.

Rory storms into the kitchen and mom follows behind. Rory turns and loudly says, "I don't want to change schools because of all the reasons I've already told you a thousand times. If you don't want to believe me, that's fine. Good night!" She literally told her once. My sister is a mess. I love her anyway.

Mom says, "Does he have a motorcycle? 'Cause if you're going to throw your life away he better have a motorcycle!" Rory slams her door shut and doesn't respond.

I sit down in the kitchen while mom walks into Rory's room. Mom says, "Well, I think that went pretty well. Don't you?"

Rory says, "Thanks for the knock." We don't fight with mom often so this is new territory for her. I am not sure why Rory is going this far either.

Mom says, "Listen, can we just start all over? You tell me about the guy, and I promise not to let my head explode, huh?"

Rory is silent. Mom says, "Rory, please talk to me. Ok, I'll talk. Don't get me wrong. Guys are great. I am a huge fan of guys. You don't get knocked up at 16 being indifferent to guys. Babe, guys are always going to be there. This school isn't. It's more important. It has to be more important."

She is completely right, guys can't come before an opportunity like this. I can't believe Rory wants to give up such an important opportunity for a guy she barely knows. That is not like my sister at all.

Rory says, "I'm going to sleep."

Mom says, "Rory. You and your sister have always been the sensible ones in this house, huh? I need you to remember that feeling now. You will kick your own butt later if you blow this."

Rory says, "Well it's my butt."

Mom says, "Good comeback."

Rory says, "Thank you."

Mom says, "You're welcome. Rory, come on."

Rory says, "I don't want to talk about this. Could you please, please just leave me alone?"

Mom says, "Ok, fine. We always had a democracy in this house. We never did anything unless we all three agreed. But now I guess I'm going to have to play the mom card. You're going to Chilton with your sister whether you want to or not. Monday morning, you will be there, end of story."

I know Rory is going to hate it, but I agree with moms decision. We have wanted to go to this school for a long time and it would be crazy to blow it off now. Especially, if mom really did ask grandma and grandpa for help like I think she did.

Rory says, "We'll see."

Mom says, "Yeah we will." Mom storms over to the living room after she slams Rory's door shut and Rory starts blasting I Try by Macy Gray. Then mom turns it on in the living room too.

I decide to check on Mom first. I walk up into the living room and go sit on the table in front of the couch. I say, "If it helps I agree with you using your mom card. She needs to go to this school with me. She's mad now, but she will get over it. I know she will."

Mom smiles at me and says, "Thanks hon. I hope you're right."

I say, "Of course I am. Now I want to ask, are we going to dinner with the grandparents because they are helping out with Chilton?"

She sighs and says, "I can't get anything past you. Yes, they are helping. I would do anything to make sure you two achieve your dreams."

I smile and say, "I know you would. Don't worry I will make this dinner and any others we may have as painless as I possibly can for you. I promise."

Mom smiles and says, "You're a good kid. Now go check on your sister. I'm ok really."

I nod and say, "I love you mom."

She says, "I love you too kid."

I make my way out of the living room and head over to Rory's room. I knock on her door and say, "It's Rora."

Rory says, "Come in."

I go sit in front of her on her bed and say, "Are you out of your mind? You just met Dean literally today. How could you possibly want to blow off our dream high school already."

Rory says, "You got to have a normal relationship at a normal school. Don't you think I might want that too?"

I say, "Rory, you can still date him and go to Chilton. We aren't leaving the country. There's before school, after school, weekends, and holidays to see him."

She says, "But how am I going to run into him if I don't run into him at school?"

I say, "One, this is a tiny town. Two, you know where he's going to be working. Three, there are tons of town events all the time. And Four, Lane still goes to Stars Hollow High so we can go to school stuff with her if we want."

She says, "Maybe you have a point, but I'm still not sure I want to go."

I sigh and say, "Well, it's not a choice anymore. Mom says you have to go and I will personally help her drag you there if you keep trying to fight it. You can be mad at mom and even me if that makes you feel better, but we aren't letting you miss this important opportunity."

She says, "It should be my choice."

I say, "Not when you're making the wrong one. I love you, I'm going to head to bed and let you think about things."

She huffs and says, "I love you too."

I say, "Good night."

Rory says, "Good night."

When I leave Rory's room I look over to the living room and see mom isn't on the couch anymore. I head into my room and get ready for bed. Today has been rough.

The next day Rory is only talking to me in short sentences, which I expected. She never handles it well when I don't side with her. Mom left us a note to meet her at the inn. I get dressed in a black sweater and skinny jeans with black heeled boots.

I put on some eyeliner, mascara, and lip gloss. This makeup is easy to adjust to fancy for our dinner with the grandparents tonight. I put on my blue jacket and drag Rory to the inn. Once we are there we head to the front desk.

Rory sits in Michel's chair and begins to read while I turn to Michel and say, "Can you let mom know we're here? Please."

He glares at Rory then sighs and says, "Yes. Hopefully she will get her out of my chair."

A few minutes later mom walks up and says, "Hey, no muumuu today. You know what's weird, I kind of miss it."

Rory says, "You left us a note to meet you here."

Mom says, "Yes, thought you might wanna work a couple hours. Make a little extra cash."

I say, "If you need me too I can, but if not I need to finish up a few things."

Rory says, "Fine."

Mom says, "That's fine, Ro. I didn't figure you would Luke pays you better than I do."

Mom then turns to Rory and says, "You're not giving me the mommy dearest treatment forever, are ya?"

Rory says, "You wanted me here, I'm here. Should I do something or what?" The rare times we have fought with mom they definitely haven't lasted this long. Rory is overreacting big time.

Mom says, "Yeah, go home. Dinner's at seven. Be ready to go."

Rory says, "Fine."

Mom says, "Fine." I give mom an apologetic look and follow Rory out.

When we get home we go to our separate rooms. Rory starts blasting music and I do more studying for Chilton. I don't want to risk being behind. After a few hours of studying I start to get ready for dinner.

I do a simple smokey eye eyeshadow, black eyeliner, black mascara, pink blush, and pink lip gloss. I wear an off the shoulder pink dress and black heels. I grab my long black coat to go over it. I straighten my hair to change things up a bit.

Once I am ready it is time to go. Mom, Rory, and I get in the car and head to our grandparents/ parents house. When we get there we stand outside for a minute. I know this is hard for mom so she is taking her time to enter the house.

Rory says, "So, do we go in or do we just stand here reenacting The Little Match Girl?"

I say, "Rory, you need to chill out."

Mom says, "Ok, look, I know you and me are having a thing here and I know you hate me, but I need you to be civil. At least through dinner, and then on the way home you can pull a Menendez. Deal?"

Rory says, "Fine."

I look at her and say, "You are acting very irrational and rude. This is not you. This is hard for mom. You know how she feels about being here. Be nice."

Mom rings the doorbell and seconds later the door opens to reveal grandma. I say, "Hey grandma."

Rory says, "Hi, grandma."

Grandma says, "Well, you're right on time."

Mom says, "Yeah, yeah, no traffic at all."

We all start to take our jackets off as grandma says, "I can't tell you what a treat it is to have you girls here." Grandma takes our jackets and hangs them up for us.

Mom says, "Oh, well we're excited, too." That did not sound very convincing.

I say, "I have so much to catch you up on. We never really get to talk about my dance classes."

Grandma says, "You take dance classes? Oh I can't wait to hear all about them!" Grandma turns to mom and says, "Is that a collectors cup or can I throw thataway for you?"

Mom goes to throw it away herself, but grandma stops her by saying, "In the kitchen please."

Mom says, "Sorry."

Grandma loops her arms with mine and Rory's and says, "So, I want to hear all about Chilton."

I say, "Well, we haven't actually started yet."

Grandma leads us into the living room and says, "Richard, look who's here."

Grandpa says, "Rory. You're tall. Aurora. You're not tall." Ok thanks for reminding me. I'm 5'2 which is a bit shorter than the rest of my family.

Rory says, "I guess."

I say, "I know."

Grandpa says, "What are your heights?"

Rory says, "5'7."

I say, "5'2."

Grandpa says, "That's tall and not tall. Rory's tall and Aurora's not tall."

Mom comes in and says, "Lorelai, one daughter is tall and the other is not tall."

Mom says, "Oh, I know it's freakish. We're thinking of having them studied at M.I.T."

Grandma says, "Champagne, anyone?"

Mom says, "Oh, that's fancy."

Grandma says, "Well, it's not every day that I have my girls here for dinner on a day the banks are open. A toast to Aurora and Rory entering Chilton and an exciting new phase in their lives."

Grandpa, who hasn't stopped reading his newspaper, says, "Here, here."

We all take a drink of the champagne then stand there awkwardly. Grandma says, "Well let's sit everyone. This is just wonderful. An education is the most important thing in the world, next to family."

Mom, never one to let things get too serious says, "And pie." No one laughs and grandma and grandpa just stare at her. She says, "Joke. It was a joke."

Grandma says, "Ahh." We sit there in another awkward silence only grandpa moving his paper making any noise. Grandpa hands Rory and I some of his paper as we continue to sit there quietly.

I say, "I started taking a pointe class this year at my dance studio. I've always loved ballet and this felt like the next step."

Grandma says, "That's amazing, dear! It hasn't affected your schooling I hope?"

I say, "No, Miss Patty, my dance teacher, is very understanding and knows how important school is. I have been studying some harder course material to prepare for Chilton."

Grandma says, "That is an excellent idea. I'm glad to know you girls are preparing."

We make a little more small talk before it's time to head into the dining room for dinner. Once the food is sat down in front of us we begin to eat. The awkward silence is back and I am racking my brain for good things to talk about.

Grandma says, "Rory, Aurora do you like the lamb?"

I say, "It's delicious, grandma."

Rory says, "It's good."

Grandma says, "Too dry?"

Rory says, "No it's perfect."

I say, "I agree with Rory."

Mom says, "Potatoes could use a little salt though." Mom, why? How am I supposed to make this painless when she insists on making this painful?

Grandma says, "Excuse me?"

Rory says, "So, grandpa, how's the insurance biz?" Should have gone for grandma, grandpa has barely said anything to us all night.

Grandpa says, "Oh, people die, we pay. People crash cars, we pay. People lose a foot, we pay."

Mom says, "Well at least you have your new slogan."

Grandpa says, "And how are things at the motel?" Rude. She works at a very nice and classy inn.

Mom says, "The inn? They're great."

Grandma says, "Lorelai is the executive manager now. Isn't that wonderful?"

I say, "I think it is. Mom is truly amazing."

Grandpa says, "Speaking of which, Christopher called yesterday."

Mom says, "Speaking of which? How is that a speaking of which?"

I put my hand on mom's and say, "It's not."

She smiles softly at me. I love dad, but he is not on mom's level. He isn't hard working, or dependable, or self-made, or anything mom is. I don't know why grandpa worships him so much, he knocked up your daughter at 16. Mom may have refused to marry him, but she never kept us from him. He has always had the option to see us. He just doesn't.

Grandpa says, "He's doing very well in California. His internet start-up goes public next month. This could mean big things. Very talented man, your father." I love that he believes that. The thing is never going to go public and he'll blow back in town to lay low while he figures out what's next.

Mom says, "They know."

Grandpa says, "He always was a smart one, that boy. You must take after him."

Mom says, "Speaking of which, I'm gonna get a coke. Or a knife." She rushes towards the kitchen.

I say, "I actually take after mom. Smart, hard working, dependable, patient, kind, and self sufficient. I'm not sure dad shares all those qualities, but I love him anyway."

No one said anything to what I said. We sit there for a minute in silence. I say, "I think I'm gonna go talk to her."

Rory says, "Me too."

Grandma says, "No, I'll go. You both stay and keep your grandfather company."

We hear grandma say, "Keep your voice down."

Mom says, "No mother, I can't take it anymore. Tonight just seems like a nightmare."

Grandma says, "You're dripping all over the floor." Mom must have started doing dishes to deal with her frustration.

Mom says, "Why do you pounce on every single thing I say?"

Grandma says, "That's absurd. You barely uttered a word all night." The struggle is they are all wrong. Grandma and grandpa need to treat mom better, but mom also needs to not take everything as a slight against her. This family needs therapy.

Mom says, "That's not true."

Grandma says, "You said pie."

Mom says, "Oh, come on."

Grandma says, "You did. All I heard you say was pie."

Mom says, "Why would he bring up Christopher? Was that really necessary?"

Grandma says, "He likes Christopher." Again, why? He knocked up your daughter at 16.

Mom says, "Isn't that interesting? Because as I remember, when Christopher got me pregnant, Dad didn't like him so much."

Grandma says, "Oh well, please, you were 16. What were we supposed to do? Throw you a party? We were disappointed. The two of you had such bright futures." Um, hello. We are sitting right here. They make it sound like we ruined their futures.

Mom says, "Yes, and by not getting married we got to keep those bright futures." She's right. Well mom kept hers not sure what dad is doing.

Grandma says, "When you get pregnant, you get married. A child needs a mother and a father." Not necessarily. Dad would have dragged mom down. He wasn't ready then to get married and he's not ready now. I think mom's done a killer job of raising us on her own.

Mom says, "Mom, do you think Christopher would have his own company right now if we'd gotten married? Do you think he would be anything at all?" Why does everyone believe he is a massive success right now? Have they met him? He's capable, he just hasn't figured out the maturity work hard thing yet.

Grandma says, "Yes, I do. Your father would have put him in the insurance business and you'd be living a lovely life right now." Mom would have hated that. They would have been divorced before we were two.

Mom says, "He didn't want to be in the insurance business and I am living a lovely life right now."

Grandma says, "That's right far away from us."

Mom says, "Oh, here we go."

Grandma says, "You took those girls, completely shut us out of your life." She's not wrong. I get why mom did it, but her issues shouldn't have to become our issues.

Mom says, "You wanted to control me."

Grandma says, "You were still a child."

Mom says, "I stopped being a child the minute the strip turned pink. Ok? I had to figure out how to live. I found a good job."

Grandma says, "As a maid. With all your brains and talent."

Mom says, "I worked my way up. I run the place now. I built a life on my own with no help from anyone."

Grandma says, "Yes, and think where you would have been if you'd accepted a little help. And where Aurora and Rory would have been. But no, you were always too proud to accept anything from anyone."

Mom says, "Well I wasn't too proud to come here to you two begging for my kids' school, was I?"

Rory whips around to look at the kitchen. I guess she didn't figure it out like I did. Grandma says, "No, you most certainly were not. But you're too proud to let them know where you got it from, aren't you?" Yeah she is. I only know because I figured it out.

Grandma says, "Well, fine. You have your precious pride and I have my weekly dinners. Isn't that nice? We both win." It gets silent for a minute then I hear snoring. Rory and I look over to see grandpa asleep in his chair.

The rest of dinner was awkward and silent. When it is time to leave we rush to put on our jackets and head out the door after saying good night to grandma and grandpa. Once we are outside mom lets out a sigh and leans on the wall. I lean my head on her shoulder to give her some comfort.

Rory says, "Mom?"

Mom says, "I'm ok, I just. Do I look shorter? 'Cause I feel shorter."

I say, "No, I'm still the shortest one." Mom laughs a little.

Rory says, "Hey, how about I buy you a cup of coffee?"

Mom says, "Aw. Yeah." Mom puts her arms around both of us and says, "You drive, though Rose, okay, 'cause I don't think my feet will reach the petals."

I drive us home and then we walk over to Lukes. Once we get close Rory says, "So, nice dinner at the grandparents house."

I say, "Definitely can't wait to do all this awkwardness again."

Mom says, "Oh, yeah, her dishes have never been cleaner."

Rory says, "You and grandma seemed to have a nice talk."

Mom says, "How much did you hear?"

I say, "Not much."

Rory says, "You know, snippets."

Mom says, "Snippets?"

Rory says, "Little snippets."

Mom says, "So basically everything?"

I say, "Basically, yes."

Mom says, "Well the best laid plans." We head inside and sit down at an empty table.

Rory says, "I think it was really brave of you to ask them for money."

Mom says, "Oh, I so do not want to talk about it."

I say, "So how many meals is it gonna take till we're off the hook?"

Mom says, "I think the deli spread at my funeral will be the last one."

Rory says, "We'll make it work."

Mom says, "Hey, wait does that mean?"

Rory says, "Can't let a perfectly good plaid skirt go to waste."

I say, "Yay! I'm so excited you are happy to be going with me again!" I pull her into a side hug.

Mom says, "Aw, honey, you won't be sorry."

Luke walks up dressed nice to take our order. Mom says, "Wow! You-you look nice. Really nice." Mom and Luke would look cute together, but I don't think now is the time for them. I hope someday though.

Luke says, "I- I had a meeting earlier at the bank. They- they like collars. You look nice too."

Mom says, "I had a flagellation to go to."

Luke says, "So what will you have?"

Mom says, "Coffee, in a vat."

Rory says, "I'll have coffee, also. And chili fries."

I say, "I'll have hot chocolate and chocolate pie."

Luke says, "That's quite a refined palate you got there." Luke walks away to get our orders.

Mom says, "Behold the healing powers of a bath. So, tell me about the guy."

Rory says, "You know what's really special about our relationship? The total understanding about the need for one's privacy. I mean, you really understand boundaries."

I say, "Our mother?"

Mom says, "So tell me about the guy."

Rory says, "Mom!"

Mom asks, "Is he dreamy?"

I say, "Oh, that's so Nick at night."

Mom says, "Oh, I'm going to find out anyway."

Rory says, "Really? How?

Mom says, "Uh, I'll spy."

Luke sets down our drinks and food. He says, "Coffee, hot chocolate, fries, and pie. I can't stand it. This is so unhealthy. Rory put down the cup of coffee. Aurora push away the pie. You do not want to grow up to be like your mom."

Rory and I say, "Sorry. Too late." Luke just shakes his head and walks away.

Mom says, "So, tell me about the guy."

Rory says, "Check, please."

I say, "Just tell her. She'll never stop until you do."

Mom says, "No, really. Are you embarrassed to bring him home?"

Rory says, "I'm not embarrassed."

I say, "Are you sure?"

Mom says, "Does he talk at all? 'Cause it's ok."

Rory says, "No, mom he's a mime."

I say, "I mean he could be." We just keep going back and forth for the rest of the night. It was a lot of fun.
