Authors Notes- And here I am back again with yet another chapter to First Do No Harm. As you can gather I don't own Transformers. That still belongs to Hasbro and I'm merely borrowing the characters for my own amusement. I do however own the plot. Now that we got that out of the way here is Chapter Six. I hope you enjoy.
Chapter VI: Secrets.
June sighed as the hot Nevada air brushed through her messy hair, which now hung down to her shoulders as it was no longer in a pony tail. She stared out at the view before her as she sat perched on Ratchet's knee.
"I'm sorry." She spoke, looking up at the orange and white Autobot. "I know you got a plenty of other things you need to be working on." She finished, knowing that the medic no doubt had countless projects he needed to be working on, hell, to her Ratchet seemed like he was the one that kept things afloat around the base, next to Optimus that is.
Ratchet scoffed, rolling his optics. "I'm quite certain that things will be fine without me for a short while. If not I'm sure Optimus will step up."
At that June had to chuckle, a small smile creeping to her face as she continued to look up at him. "Things wouldn't be the same without you, huh?"
Ratchet shook his head once more. "Sometimes I think this whole base would come crumbling down if not for me." He said.
June laughed at that. Somehow she could relate. However, the light-hearted mood soon dissipated as her thoughts to what had transpired not even an hour ago. Her smile melting away, and that frightened look soon replaced it. Ratchet's own smile disappearing as he looked down at her, watching as she ran her fingers through her hair.
"So, I guess I should tell you...well. Everything, huh?" June said after what seemed like forever.
Ratchet hesitated, sure he wanted to know exactly what was going on. But he also didn't want to pressure her either. " Just take your time." He told her.
Heaving a sigh June looked up at him once more. "T-that man who was attacking me when you came. He was my ex-husband." June told him.
"You're..." Ratchet trailed off, looking down at her. Well, this was new, as far as he was concerned Jack's father was out of the picture. But to find him attacking June, that didn't sit right with him.
"And those texts I've been receiving lately, from my co-worker?" She continued, not waiting for him to speak. "They were actually from him. And...maybe I should start from the very beginning."
And so she did, telling Ratchet everything as he listened intently. Anger bubbling in his chestplate as she told him all that had happened to her throughout the years. His thumb rubbing her back as fresh tears spilled down pale cheeks, sobs racking her fragile body. To think that someone that June had loved, had trusted would ever lay a hand on her Ratchet thought. Let alone torment her like this. Just what kind of monster was this David? Ratchet gritted his denta.
"All this time I thought I was safe. And now, June sniffled, wiping her runny nose on the sleeve of her sweater. "He's back and he's going to hurt me, and Jack. And I don't know what I'm going to do." With that she broke down into uncontrollable sobs that racked her body once more.
And as she sobbed Ratchet suddenly wished he had crushed that man beneath his wheels. It would have gone against everything the Autobots stood for. But for all the suffering June had endured because of this man it would have been worth it.
"And to make matters worst," she added, looking up at him once more, eyes red. Snot dribbling down her lips. "Jack has no idea about any of this."
At those words Ratchet felt his energon run cold at this. That meant Jack could be in danger too, Primus only knew what that man would do to Jack to get to June. Was Jack in danger right now? Ratchet let out a low growl, as he got to his feet, June clutched in his hand a little too tightly as he stepped into the base once more.
"R-Ratchet," June choked out, he quickly relaxed his grip, muttering an apology as he do so. "W-what are you doing?" June asked, noting that he had gone eerily silent.
"I need to contact Arcee. Tell her to keep a look out for your ex-husband-"
"David." June cut in. "His name is David I would prefer if you didn't call him anything but his name." She told him.
Ratchet nodded. "Anyway I need to contact Arcee. And let her know what's going on." He said, placing June on the mezzanine before turning his back to her as he commed Arcee.
At the same time June's phone pinged, causing her poor heart to lurch. Was it him? Biting down on her bottom lip she pulled her phone out of her pocket, her blood running cold when she opened the message, and was greeted with pictures of Jack. Pictures no doubt taken by David without Jack's knowledge as the boy had his back to him as he stood outside the school. A sheepish grin on the boys face as he rubbed the back of his head as he talked with Sierra. A faint blush on his cheeks.
This was soon followed by several more more pictures, one was a picture of Jack scowling still unaware that he was being watched as he glared at Miko as the girl was seen laughing. No doubt Miko was teasing Jack about his crush on Sierra as he and Miko walked to where Arcee, Bumblebee, and Bulkhead were parked. And the last one was a picture of Jack looking over his shoulder, looking in the direction of the one taking the pictures.
Oh no. She thought. He's in danger. Biting down on her bottom lip she dialled Jack's number, praying that her son was safe. One ring, two, three. And then. "Hi this is Jack, I can't come to the phone right now because I'm probably out saving the world right now."
June let the hand that held the phone drop to her side, heart thundering in her chest. Her call had gone to voicemail. June hoped that meant he was on his way here. She hoped that was the case. Running her hand through her hair once more she plopped down on the couch, trying to not let her fears get the best of her. Easier said than done as her phone pinged again, making her nearly jump out of her skin. She hoped that was Jack texting her back apologizing for not answering his phone. That he was at work or home. She hoped he wasn't home, the last thing she wanted was for David to find him home alone.
However, luck was not on her side as she read the text. Don't you think it's rather careless, letting Jack own a motorcycle? It read. No, not Jack. Her eyes were glued on the phones screen. He could get hurt. She continued to read. Why? Why could he just leave her and Jack alone? Fresh tears welled in her eyes as she gripped her phone so hard she was sure she would crack the screen. With and enraged scream that startled Ratchet and Optimus, who was just now entering the command room, blue optics wide as they both looked in her direction. Just as she flung her phone against the wall. Watching as it shattered against it, before fighting to catch her breath.
Optimus was silent as he watched as June struggled to catch her breath, tears spilling down her cheeks once more, her body trembling. Feeling Ratchet's hand on his shoulder he turned to face his medic. Gesturing for Optimus to follow him as Optimus glanced over his shoulder at June one finally time, as June dropped to her knees, and continued to sob.
Something was wrong. Jack thought as he rode Arcee down the all too familiar dirt road he, Miko, and Raf had all travelled down countless times. And yet, all day Jack couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong as well as the feeling of being watched. It unnerved him to no end. Of course when he tried to talk to Miko about it all she did was joke about how it must be Sierra and her friends watching him as he crashed and burned not even a few minutes prior. Something that wasn't true, in fact if it wasn't for Vince butting in when Jack was certain he was getting somewhere with her he would probably hit it off. In fact, before Vince but in he actually managed to make her laugh, and could have swore she was blushing too.
But, Jack was getting off track. When Jack had been about to get on Arcee he could have swore he had seen someone, an older man watching him from the shadows. Maybe you're just being paranoid. He told him, gripping Arcee's handle bars tighter, as he saw the base in the distance. All this being surrounded by danger constantly has you used to the idea of Decepticons or anything else being around you and the others...maybe. Jack shook his head. This wasn't like him, jumping at shadows and such. Shoving these thoughts away Jack heaved a sigh as they reached the Autobot base, the doors sliding open. Allowing them in, the three of them coming to a stop, Jack climbing off of Arcee. Allowing the femme to transform.
Climbing the stairs to the mezzanine he was surprised to see June sitting on the couch. "Mom?" he asked, surprised to find her here, normally she was at work at this time. Jack stopped in his tracks as she looked up at him, her eyes red rimmed and puffy.
"Jack," June spoke, her voice cracking as she got to her feet, and moved towards him and pulled him into a tight hug. "You're safe oh thank god!" She wailed.
Okay, he was right something was wrong as his mother continued bawl into his shoulder. Hugging his mother he looked to where Optimus and the other Autobots looked on, worried. Jack then looked to Miko and Raf, who upon realizing that Jack and June obviously needed space moved to where Raf usually worked on his laptop.
"Mom, mom, deep breaths, what's wrong? What happened?" Jack asked, holding his mother at arms length. "Please just breathe, come on breathe, and tell me what's wrong, okay?" Jack said, looking into his mothers eyes.
Nodding June allowed Jack to ease her back on the couch, rubbing her back as he looked to the Autobots once more. Noting that Bulkhead and Bumblebee had disappeared further into the base, and Arcee had disappeared...somewhere to bury herself with some task or other. While Optimus had his back to them, but it was Ratchet that got Jack's attention. Noting that the old medic was watching them intently, an unreadable look on his faceplate.
"Jack," June spoke, when she finally calmed down. Placing a hand on his knee.
Jack turned away from Ratchet to his mother once more. His heart skipping a beat, when he saw fear shining in her eyes. Dread forming in the pit of his stomach.
"Your father has found us." June choked out.
As she said this silence permeated the base as Jack struggled to process this. "What?" Jack asked, brow furrowed. What was she talking about? "What do you mean? You told me that my father was dead."
By now all eyes were on both the mother and son as Jack continued to look to June. Searching her face. Never in his sixteen years of life had he seen her so afraid, not even when she was at the mercy of Airachnid and MECH. Biting her bottom lip she took Jack's hand in hers, and heaved a sigh. And begun to tell him everything. Silence fell over the bae once more when she was done telling him all he needed to know.
"Whoa." Miko whispered, having moved closer to the two of them, placing a hand on June's trembling shoulder. "I'm sorry that's so messed up."
"Shut up." Jack snapped, glaring at Miko, making the girl jump back in shock.
"Dude, relax I was just saying-"
"I said shut up!" Jack snarled.
"Jack-" June started, as Jack got to his feet and started pacing around the mezzanine. "How could you have hid this from me?" he asked, as he looked to June, watching as she flinched. It was then she noticed the bruise on her cheek. "Did he do that to you?" Jack asked, pointing to her cheek.
June placed a hand over her bruised cheek, before turning away.
"He did, didn't he?"
Swallowing thickly June nodded.
"And where is he now?" Jack asked, he knew he had no right to be angry, knew she had her reasons but still. All these years he had thought his father was dead. Hell, June wasn't going to lie, she had hoped that he had been dead at one point. And now Jack knew that it had all been a lie all along. That his father was a alive, and was now tormenting his poor mother. June shrugged, as far as she knew David could be anywhere now.
And judging by the pictures she had shown him he was watching Jack as well. Fear gripped him, not only had June hid this from him but now he was also being targeted. Sighing Jack ran a hand through his hair as he looked to June once more.
"I...need some air." He said, moving towards the elevator, ignoring June calling after him. When Arcee moved to intercept her.
June looked up at the blue femme, noting that Arcee's features had softened as she crouched down before her. Placing a hand on June's shoulder. "Let me go talk to him." Arcee said.
Moving to protest she quickly stopped herself. Jack needed space, needed time to cool off, and if she thought about it she really couldn't blame him for being mad. She had hid this from him for years. So he had a right to be angry. Biting down on her bottom lip she watched as Arcee followed after Jack before turning away. Noting that all eyes were still on her, making her feel small. Well, smaller than she normally was as she slinked back up the stairs to the mezzanine.
Noting that both Miko and Raf quickly looking away, and leaving her alone. Silence continued to permeate through out the base as she curled in one herself, trembling. However, she was soon jerked from her thoughts as Ratchet moved closer.
"Come here," he said, his voice soft as he held out her hand to her. Glancing up at hm she got to her feet, and climbed into his hand. Straightening both Ratchet and June disappeared down the hall, as the rest of the Autobots continued to watch them. As they disappeared down the hall, June wondered what she would do now? She knew David was still out there, waiting and watching for the right time to strike.
And when that happened June had no idea what she would do. Perhaps she and Jack would disappear again? And as she thought that June found that idea unacceptable as she looked up at Ratchet, as they continued to walk down the hall to god new where. But for some reasons she found herself once again drawn to the mech that held her, that listened to her. And found herself feeling safe with him.
No, she couldn't leave him. And she wouldn't run, she would find away to get away from David once and for all, and if need be she would fight. No more running...
Authors Notes- Yeah, I know both Jack and June were rather OOC I apologize about that. And I wish I had more to say but I just woke up so this is The Exhausted Writer signing off, have a good day!
