Frozen Knightmare
Chapter 2: Making Allies

"O-open fire!" One of the soldiers shouted as he and his partner leveled their rifles and poured a double barrage of shots at Ice.

She spun the blade off her shoulder and crouched down behind it, a wall of ice forming inside the ring to block the shots.

"What the hell?" The other soldier asked as he saw their attacks blocked.

Ice deployed wheeled extensions off her Knightmare's legs before rocketing forward, slamming into one of the soldiers with her weapon. The ice shattered on impact as the man's Knightmare was driven back, crashing into the wall of the subway station. She grasped the handle of the weapon before spinning it up and through the remaining soldier's frame, slicing it cleanly in half before shouldering it again. A delayed explosion erupted from the Knightmare as its fuel reserves ignited.

"Well, that wasn't so bad," Ice said to Lelouch as she glanced back over her shoulder.

Lelouch had watched in awe as she dispatched the Britannian troops. An idea began to form in his mind as he reached for the cockpit release controls.

"What are you doing?" Ice asked as the door slid open and Lelouch dropped out. He rushed to the first solider she had dispatched.

"I needed their ID card," he said.

Ice watched him clamor up to the frame's cockpit and open it with the emergency release lever. Lelouch reached past the pilot's body and pulled the man's control drive from the cockpit. He quickly returned to Ice and handed it to her.

"Can you insert this into your console and use its Transponder?"

Ice took the device from him and slid it into a port on her control panel. Instantly a radar-style map of the area appeared, with blue dots lighting up everywhere.

"The enemy?" Ice asked.

"Yes… and it seems we have far fewer pieces on the board than I had anticipated. While having a queen can be a powerful tool, the rest of the board must be under our control as well if we have any hopes of winning this content," Lelouch said.

Ice smirked, "It seems your grasp on strategy wasn't an understatement. Where to first, Commander Lelouch?" she asked.

Lelouch looked at the screen, contemplating their next move, when he noticed something.

"There, to the Southwest of our current position. We'll need to secure that location… and we'll need to find a radio to contact the rebel factions in the area."

Ice nodded, engaging the controls on her frame before rocketing off to the Southwest.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the ghetto

Kallen Kozuki, a Knightmare pilot for the Japanese resistance slid her frame into an alleyway and crouched down to recover. She had just escaped a trio of Brittanian soldiers but had to sacrifice one of her Knightmare's arms to escape.

"This isn't going to plan at all. We lost the gas and now we're scrambling to get out of the city…" She said to herself as she pulled up a map of the area.

A walkie-talkie that was taped to her console blared to life as static erupted from it.

"K…Kallen… read… e?" a voice came in, cutting in and out with static.

"Ohgi? Ohgi is that you? Repeat that last part, you're cutting out," Kallen said as she touched the button to speak.

"T...Diff… chan…" it replied.

Kallen switched the channel nob on her device and tried again.

"Ohgi?" She asked.

"There, that's better. This whole place is a mess and we're not sure which channels are even safe to use," Ohgi's voice came through clearly now.

"Yeah… this didn't go to plan at all," Kallen answered.

"At this point, we just need to get out of the city. What's your status?" he asked.

"I'm running low on fuel. My energy reader is saying thirty percent, and I lost an arm during one of a fight with some soldiers a few minutes ago."

"Great… you were our main plan to get out of here… I'm not sure how we'll manage that without your Knightmare."

Kallen shook her head, "We'll figure something out."

Suddenly a new voice cut into their conversation.

"Attention all members of the Resistance. I need you to meet me on the overpass tracks in the Southwest section of the city."

Ohgi and Kallen both recoiled from their device.

"Who is this? How did you get on this channel?" Kallen asked.

"That's not important right now. You can consider me an ally in the fight against Britannia, and if you want to win this battle you need to come meet me at the coordinates I've specified."

"Win?" Kallen asked.

Ohgi thought about what the man said, "I say we go for it."

"But what if it's a Britannian trap?" Kallen asked.

"They've already got us boxed in. They don't need to set any traps. At this rate, they'll encircle the city and close in to wipe us out. I say we take this chance while we still have it."

Kallen thought for a second before nodding, "You're right. Gather the others and meet me there. I'll see if I can't find any stragglers on the way over."

"Right."

The two went into action, gathering themselves and anyone nearby as they made their way to the Southwest Overpass. Kallen used her Knightmare Frames grapnels to launch herself up onto the tracks, sliding along the rails as she looked for anyone else.

"There!" A voice called.

She looked behind her to see a Britannian Knightmare leap onto the tracks.

"Ah, our Glasco friend from the highway," he said.

Kallen spun around, pulling a knife out with her remaining arm.

"That won't do you a lot of good, I'll have you full of holes before you even get close enough to use it," The man said.

Kallen remained composed as she waited for him to make the first move, when they both perked up at a new sound. A train slowly rolled down the tracks, a massive box car attached to the back.

"What? These tracks aren't in us," Kallen said to herself.

At the head of the train was a Britannian Sutherland model Knightmare.

"You there, halt your advance and state your name and unit," The Britannian soldier called to the Sutherland.

It did neither as it continued to pull forward. Eventually, it came to a stop just short of Kallen before lifting its rifle and opening fire on the soldier.

"My god! The enemy has captured some of our units?!" The soldier shouted as he dodged the gunfire.

"Hello Q-2," Lelouch said from inside his Knightmare.

"You! You're the voice from the radio!"

"I am. You can call me K-1 if you need to, but I've brought a little something to help out you and your friends."

As he said this, Ohgi's group arrived and saw the box car open to reveal more Sutherlands.

"Knightmares!?" Ohgi asked in shock.

"Who are you?" Kallen asked, "How did you get these Knightmare Frames?"

"As I said earlier, it doesn't matter who I am. Just that I am an ally in the fight against Britannia. Now, if you're willing to join me you'll have to listen to my orders."

Kallen thought about it as Ohgi and the others examined the Knightmares in the train.

"Let's do it."
