Lando woke up and had a good night's rest which was something he hadn't had in years, he opened his eyes and nobody was there. Lando thought it was strange but didn't pay it too much mind, he opened the door to the bedroom and Levi was standing against the wall.

"Good morning," Levi said.

"Good morning…" Lando said groggy.

"You woke up late," Levi commented.

"Should've woken me up," Lando says.

"I thought about it," Levi says.

"Thanks, I guess," Lando said. "Where is everyone?"

"Everyone is eating breakfast," Levi said. "Or I think."

"I'll get something too," Lando said. "When is our next operation?"

"I don't know yet," Levi said. "But today the Scouting corps had a meeting with Historia."

"Good luck with that," Lando said. "New Historia is a little too energetic for me."

"Yeah…" Levi said.

Lando started to walk away.

"Oh," Levi said and Lando turned around. "Here."

Levi threw Lando a key.

"It's a key for my office here," Levi explained. "If you ever wanted to go in there."

"Thanks, Dad," Lando said.

"You're uh..welcome," Levi said.

Levi watched as Lando walked off into the distance.

"This is harder than I thought…" Levi thought.

"Wow." Lando thought. "It's hard to converse with people."

Lando entered the kitchen and felt everyone's eyes on him.

"Not sitting in here today." Lando thought.

He grabbed his food and sped walked out of there and made his way to his Dad's office. Lando shut the door behind him and sat at the table there, he took out his journal while he was eating and relooked at a lot of the pages and drawings he had written.

Lando eventually finished breakfast, cleaned up the table and went to take a shower, he finished his shower and went back to the office.

The Scouts had a free day so he got to work on finishing a lot of his drawings that were half done or just sketched, he has had no time to do any of this since the Scouts became fugitives.

Minutes slowly turned into hours as Lando was engrossed with his drawings when he heard the door unlock and Levi walked in.

"How'd it go?" Lando asked.

Levi sighed.

"Historia wanted a lot of stuff done but the main thing that I supported was establishing an orphanage for children, especially from the Underground and the edge of the walls."

"That's not bad," Lando said. "The government really had that money for something like that and never used it?"

"Nope," Levi said. "They stuffed their pockets instead."

"Of course they did," Lando said.

"By the way…" Levi asked. "When is your birthday?'

"April 17," Lando said.

"2 months ago," Levi said. "Why didn't you say anything?"

"Would anybody have celebrated with me?" Lando asked.

Levi thought about it and no he wouldn't have back then and he didn't really see anybody else celebrating for more than a few minutes. Levi noticed that Lando kept a relationship with the other Scouts where they could work together in an operation but they wouldn't hang out with each other. Maybe Sasha and Conny would celebrate with Lando but that was just because they were friendly and maybe Jean who seemed to not mind Lando.

Levi remembered when the Scouts celebrated Jean's birthday in the cabin they were stationed in, Lando opted to do guard duty for the entire day, or when he didn't have anything to do he would isolate himself outside and bury his head into his journal, just like he was doing now.

"No.." Levi said.

"It's fine, it wasn't like I wanted to celebrate," Lando said.

"Yeah.." Levi said. "Tomorrow Levi Squad is supposed to be at the orphanage that Historia just established."

"They set it up that quick?" Lando asked.

"The building was already there; they needed to fix it up a little and move some equipment over there," Levi explained. "When you're Queen things get done fast."

"Sometimes I wish I was King," Lando said. "I could do everything I want."

"What would you do?" Levi asked.

"I would go live in the outer wall and live out there by myself," Lando said.

"You would still have to do your responsibilities," Levi said.

"Yeah…that doesn't sound that fun," Lando said. "All I want is peace and quiet."

"What were you doing in here all that time?" Levi asked.

"I was drawing," Lando explained.

Lando slides his journal over to Levi.

Levi opened it and there was a pocket in the page he reached into it and found a picture of him in the Underground.

"I remember this," Levi said. "Isabell took it."

"Mom gave it to me a long time ago," Lando said. "It was useful when I had to find you in the Scouts, but it wasn't that hard when everyone talked about Captain Levi."

Levi also found a folded red piece of paper and when he unfolded it he saw a drawing of Lando and his Mom he noticed that there were white spots on the red paper.

Lando who was zoning out snapped back into reality and quickly snatched the drawing from Levi.

"You probably know why it's red…" Lando said.

Lando had explained the night to Levi and he knew after he unfolded it what it was.

"Yeah.." Levi said.

Levi looked further into the journal and saw amazing drawings of the cadet training ground to just notes about how to swing the sword faster.

Levi and Lando talked about the contents of the journal when it was almost curfew time for the Scouts.

"It's about time for curfew," Levi told Lando.

"I hate that crowded room," Lando said.

"I did too when I first joined," Levi said.

"It always makes me feel like…" Lando said.

"You're back in the Underground?" Levi said. "All cramped into a space."

"Yeah…" Lando said.

"Well there is nothing you can do about it," Levi said. "You're not above everybody else."

"I don't want to," Lando said. "Too much attention on me, I would hate it."

"You get used to it," Levi said. "I did."

"I guess…" Lando said.

The two didn't say anything for a little bit until Levi broke the silence.

"It's time for you to get to sleep," Levi said.

"Uh..yeah it…is," Lando said.

"Goodnight," Levi said.

"Goodnight," Lando said and walked out of the room.

Lando sighed he needed to fix his anxiety around his father, it just made everything awkward when it didn't need to be. Lando walked around for a few hours hiding from guards because he didn't want to go in that room while everyone was awake, he didn't wanna answer any questions.

He eventually made his way back to the dorm room and went in, everyone was asleep so he found his bed and laid down drifting off to sleep.

The Next Day.

Lando woke up before everyone else, he got ready and walked outside. Today they were supposed to help out with Queen Historia's new orphanage. Lando looked around and there were people moseying around in the courtyard of the barracks, he sat outside watching for a lot longer than he thought when Jean walked over and snapped him out of it.

"Hey," Jean said.

"Hi," Lando said.

"I know with the whole Captain Levi thing it was kinda awkward," Jean said.

"Oh..uh…yeah," Lando said.

"Well," Jean said. "I talked to everybody and we all agreed to forget about it and act normal."

"Wait really?" Lando asked.

"Yeah." Jean clarified.

"Thank you," Lando said.

"You're welcome," Jean said. "Come on, we got to go to this orphanage."

Lando and Jean walked over to where the rest of Levi's squad minus Levi, who probably had some Scout business going on, and they all hopped onto a carriage and took off toward the orphanage.

It wasn't that long of a ride, about 56 minutes, when they got there Historia was already there in her normal clothes with a bunch of kids.

"This isn't for me…" Lando thought as they walked toward the kids.

When they got there Historia was yelling at the kids to calm down, Lando took that opportunity to walk away from the kids.

He walked up a little hill and found a spot under a tree overlooking the orphanage so he could say he was keeping watch for bad guys.

Everybody else was having fun with the kids playing tag or playing catch with a ball when Eren noticed something.

"Hey!" Eren said. "Where's Lando?"

The Scouts looked around until Jean started to laugh a little.

"You know stuff like this isn't his thing," Jean said. "He probably found a quiet place to be."

"Yeah, I bet," Conny said. "You know him."

Lando was sitting against the tree drawing in his journal when he felt something was off. He looked up and saw a little kid poking his head over the small hill looking at Lando. Lando didn't say anything and eventually, the kid climbed over the hill and walked over to Lando and sat down.

Lando gave the kid a nod and noticed the kid was holding something, it looked like some type of notebook and pencils.

The kid opened his book and started to draw Lando watched and the kid wasn't bad it seemed easy to the kid.

"Put darker colors in the sky." Lando offered.

The kid looked at the paper for a little bit until a lightbulb went off in his head and he got to work making the edges of the paper dark as night, then the kid drew a mountain while the colors got brighter.

"Thanks." The kid said.

"You're welcome," Lando said. "But let me help you with something."

The two of them talked and Lando helped him with his drawings until sunset when the two of them heard someone screaming at them.

"Hey!" Histoira yelled.

The two boys looked up at Historia staring at them with anger.

"I said you had to be back by 6 p.m. and you guys weren't there," Historia said.

"My bad!" The kid stumbled out. "I didn't mean to!"

Historia sighed.

"It's fine but go back it's dinner time."

"Ok!" The boy said and ran off.

"There's where you were," Historia said.

"Yeah kids aren't really my thing…" Lando said. "Too loud."

"That doesn't seem to be the case," Historia said, watching the boy still running toward the building. "You guys got along."

"We had a common interest," Lando said as the two of them started to walk down the hill.

"Drawing?" Historia asked.

"Yeah," Lando said.

"He doesn't really fit in here," Historia said. "He keeps to himself and draws, that's about all he does."

"Oh..uh..really?" Lando asked.

"Yeah.' Historia said. "But I'm happy that he found someone he could talk to."

"What's his name?" Lando asked.

"Jacob," Historia said. "Jacob Novak."

"Ok," Lando said.

Historia was about to say something when she saw two kids still running around.

"Hey!" She said and ran after them.

Lando watched her run off and started to walk towards the orphanage when a voice came out of nowhere.

"Lando."

Lando whipped his head around and saw Levi standing there.

"Dad?" Lando said. "What are you doing here?"

"We had a meeting to talk about Eren's hardening ability," Levi said. "And it finished so I came out here."

"And you rode all the way out here?" Lando asked.

"Yes." Levi said.

"Ok.." Lando said. "What about Eren's abilities?"

"We are going to be testing them out to see what he can handle and its weakness," Levi said.

"Tomorrow?" Lando asked.

"If it all goes to plan, yes," Levi said.

"The break was nice while it lasted," Lando said.

"We're still Scouts," Levi said. "We still have to fight the Titans."

"Yeah.." Lando said.

"Speaking of which," Levi said. "I've been thinking about how our next operation is going to be retaking Wall Maria, and I want you to look after yourself and make sure you don't die."

"I haven't died yet," Lando said. "And I don't plan on it."

"Yeah…" Levi said. "But remember when you went ahead to check on the castle only to find out there was a horde of Titans attacking the scouts in there, or when Berthold and Reiner revealed themselves and you injured yourself even worse in the blast when Berthold fell off the wall."

"Yeah, I remember.." Lando said. "That hurt."

"So please take better care of yourself," Levi said.

"I will," Lando said.

"Good," Levi said.

"You came just in time too." Lando said.

"For what?" Levi asked.

"Dinner was just made," Lando said. "Or Historia said it was."

"Hmm.." Levi said. "Ok lets go."

"Alright," Lando said.

The two of them walked into the orphanage where everyone else was already eating.

End of Chapter 42.

Not a lot of action happened in this chapter so I hope it wasn't boring, but Lando and Levi's awkward conversations are getting better by the day at least.
