Chapter 12
A/N: Hey Guys! I know that it's been a while. I'm sorry about that. In case you haven't seen it in my other stories…I've been trying to wrap up some of my older stories so the newer ones have gotten put on the back burner. This one is short but I wanted to give you guys something. Hope you like it. Thanks.
6 Months Later…
Rory POV
Ugh. It's been six month since Colin and I officially got together. And let's just say that things definitely haven't been perfect. Thankfully, we have the support of the Gilmore/Danes side of my family. Dad and Francine? Not so much. Even Logan's still had some issues but he's been trying really hard to hide it from us. He just forgets that I can read him like a book.
Mom's been trying to help with Dad, but she hasn't had any luck. Meaning that the merger that Colin and I keep trying to push through hasn't happened. It just frustrates Colin and I even more. I was currently getting dressed. I had to attend a board meeting this morning and I was hoping that I might make some progress with the board on this merger. If need be, I'd pull the CEO card. I was tired of them stalling. One way or another I was going to get this merger pushed through.
When I walked into the boardroom, I was surprised to see Dad and Francine by their selves. "This is a shock." I said making my way to the head of the table. I pulled my chair out and sat down. "Where's the rest of the board?" I asked.
Francine sighed. "They're not coming." She said.
I leaned back in my chair. "Why not? This is a monthly scheduled board meeting and I know that as CEO I did not cancel it." I told her.
She rolled her eyes. "No you didn't. I did." She said.
"Why?" I asked.
"Because I wanted to give you this." She said as she slid a packet of papers towards me.
I picked up the packet and looked at it. It was the merger. I flipped through the packet and saw hers and Dad's signature on the last page. The only thing it needed was mine and Colin's. I looked up at her. "What changed your mind?" I asked.
She sighed again. "I've been doing a lot of thinking. Your Grandfather left the firm to you. You are the CEO. Yes, your father and I are on the board but ultimately all final decisions are yours. If you think that this is the best decision…then so be it." Francine said.
I sat there in my chair and listened to her. When she was finished, I nodded my head. I couldn't believe that she'd finally relented. "Thank you. I will get Colin's signature and I will sign and get it over to the lawyer to process. Reschedule the board meeting for ten days from now." I said, to no one in particular.
"Will that be enough time?" Dad asked me.
"Should be." I said, standing up from my chair. "I'll be in my office if anyone needs me." I told them before I walked out of the boardroom.
Colin POV
The last six months had been rough. Rory was stressed out. She'd been fighting with her dad and Francine about the merger. I was afraid that it wasn't going to happen. Rory and I had spent months planning out the merger. We had everything planned out so that the board wouldn't (shouldn't) have any questions. But of course it wasn't that easy. Nothing ever is. Rory's Grandmother and her father had objected to the merger at every turn.
I'd been sitting in my office for a few hours when my door burst open and when I looked up, I saw Rory stride in with a stack of papers and a bottle of champagne. She had a huge grin on her face. "What's up?" I asked leaning back in my chair. Rory sat the papers and the bottle on my desk and sat on my lap, wrapping her arms around my neck.
"I've come to see if you want to celebrate?" She asked me.
"Oh yeah?" I asked, raising an eyebrow at her. "And what are we celebrating?"
"Dad and Francine agreed to the merger. They already signed. All it needs is our signatures." She said.
I couldn't help but feel hopeful. "Really?" I asked and she nodded. "Finally." I said. I grabbed the back of Rory's head and pulled her face down for a kiss. When I finally let her go, she pulled back with a smile on her face. "So…we can finally move forward with our lives?" I asked, knowing what I had in mind but hadn't voiced it yet.
She nodded standing up from my lap. She walked over to my coffee maker that I'd put in her for when she visited. It saved my secretary multiple trips to my office. Rory grabbed a couple coffee mugs before walking back and opening the bottle of champagne and pouring us each a little. She slid the stack of papers over to me, flipping to the last page. "You sign, then I will." She said, handing me a mug of champagne.
I picked up my pen and quickly signed my name. I handed her the pen and watched as she signed the contract that we'd had drafted nearly a year ago. When she sat the pen down, she looked over at me. "It's a new day." I said.
"That it is." She said smiling.
