Chapter 181

Darkness 1

Leah

"I love you, Leah! Never forget that!" Nanuk breathed lovingly towards me.

He was lying in my arms.

I knew what was going to happen, but I didn't want to believe it. Today was supposed to be the beginning of the rest of my life. My life with Nanuk!

"I love you, Nanuk!", I whispered back and gave him a soulful kiss on the lips. Wasn't that what you always saw in fairy tales? One kiss - born of true love - and everything was all right again? Why didn't that work for us, too? ... Because we were not a fairy tale. We weren't even in reality yet. We were myths and legends.

I stroked with my fingertips over his gentle smile.

Sweet lips that had shown me the world anew.

My hand went further and landed on his heart.

I felt a slight beat. But then none came anymore.

"Nanuk?" I asked fearfully. No! He couldn't leave me alone. He had after all promised to stay with me forever! What about the two children I had seen earlier in a kind of vision through Ced? My wedding dress? The gold ring?

Agonizing heat pushed its way through my body. Every fiber of my body ached. The world around me lay only dimly there. I saw nothing but Nanuk. He looked so peaceful, as if he was just sleeping. The gentle smile was still on his lips.

I felt confidence coming closer, but I shut it out. To me, confidence was not in the mood. My whole world lay lifeless in my arms. My whole world no longer had an anchor point. It was out of joint. Didn't make sense anymore ... This thought felt good. Or let's better say ... liberating.

"Leah!" my face was lifted, and I looked into two red eyes.

Immediately I jumped up, attacked the monster that had my life's purpose on its conscience - and my will to live. I did not manage to phase. I did feel the wolfish heat inside me, which I usually had no trouble controlling, but now it was not alone. The painful agony of grief mixed with it. I could only clumsily strike at the 'Cold One', still hurting my hands in the process, which I didn't care about. It did not hurt. The pain that filled me before was so much greater that it took away my breath.

I heard voices that were somehow far away. I raised my hands.

They were bleeding, but I didn't feel any of it. My vision became blurry and gloomy. My rapid pulse was pounding in my ears and kept rising as if it wanted to explode. The forest around me began to spin and sway.

I screamed, with the last air my lungs had left.

My heart was suddenly silent. Everything was silent.

dream

It was dark. Only from one direction some light seemed to shine. It became brighter and brighter, so that it blinded me, and I put my hands over my eyes. A person appeared in this cone of light.

'Nanuk. I'm coming to you!,' I thought redemptively when I recognized the person.

Wrapped in wide white clothes. It seemed somehow surreal. Instead of white angel's robe, he had come in fashionable clothes. Cargo pants with many pockets on the legs and unnecessary strings on the waistband. A long-sleeved T-shirt. Over that, an unseasonably airy open-necked shirt with the sleeves rolled up, again exposing the T-shirt underneath. Sneakers. And all in white. With his cute smile, coal-black eyes, and arms wide open. But his arms crossed in front of his chest, and he looked against me crossly. He said something, but I didn't understand him. I somehow couldn't get closer to him either, even though I was running towards him.

"Leah," I heard a whisper. "You have to go back!"

"What? No! I want to go to you!", I answered confused. Where else would I want to go?

"No!" determined Nanuk cold-heartedly, however, and looked at me so darkly that I flinched.

I winced again as he stood right in front of me just a blink later and almost grabbed me roughly by the arms.

"You stay alive, Leah! You hear me! I don't want you here! It's way too early for you!" he thundered angrily, his eyes glaring at me.

I could only shake my head.

No. I wanted to stay here. With Nanuk!

dream end

Then everything went black around me.

Black and desolate ...
