Hiccup watches as hundreds of dragons flood the beach. He recognized many of the dragons that had landed, but was happy to see new faces amongst the bodies.
"Well bud looks like we made an impression after all." He laughed.
"Yes, it seems you have." Toothless told him. Hiccup got mad at him.
"You need to take more credit. You do more for our image than you think. You're a very recognizable dragon. Everyone here knows who you are. Plus now they know that you helped in making Helheim safe again. You were feared because of your status, but now? Now you're a beacon of hope. Proof that you were stronger than even the most feared dragon in the area. We've shown them that with perseverance and little help, as long as you're willing to accept it, goes a long way. Even if that help is from somewhere you don't expect." He said sternly and crossing his arms.
"I doubt there are many humans who would help us." Toothless said sceptically.
"I know, but there has to be more than just me somewhere. It may not be in our area but there has to be someone somewhere, and I hope that they're doing well too."
"So if there is more than just one human help dragons out there, is there more than just one Night Fury?" Toothless asked, as a joke. Hiccup took a one-eighty from mad, and motivational, to disappointed and glum.
"I don't know. Freya said you're the only one, but I don't really know how much we can trust her. She's done a lot for us but if we keep getting tricked and pushed around… I don't know what we'll do but I won't want to be in contact with her anymore."
"Well Hiccup that's our life. We have to decide who we trust and take in. It's the life we live now. So if you don't think we can trust her than we don't. But on the other hand we know that she's doing her best for us and it's someone else who's messing with us. I know it would be easier to just tell her that we don't want any contact anymore so that there is no chance of something happening. But then if something happens and we need her help and she doesn't come, then what?
So either you can make this decision alone or if you want to talk about it i'm here for you." Toothless smiled.
"Toothless, damn you, you're an alpha too, stop thinking you're not. I know every other group is lead by one person, but I can't have that. We've survived together, made decisions together, lived together." He emphasized. "So we, will, lead together. Okay?"
Toothless smiled.
"Of course my king." He bowed. He could see Hiccup's blood boil.
"Toothless!" Hiccup shouted. Toothless laughed.
"Sometimes I really hate you." Hiccup grumbled. Toothless rose onto his back feet, front paws over his heart.
"Ah!" He yelled loud enough to get everyone's attentions. "My heart." He fell on his back. "It hurts so bad." He wiggled around for a little before stopping and looking at Hiccup. "Not very convincing huh?" Hiccup dead panned.
"Would you get up, idiot." Toothless flipped over and sat up.
"Is something wrong Hiccup? Normally you at least laugh." Toothless looked over his human.
"I'm just trying to be professional. We have new people here who are watching us now."
"So you're going to change who you are just because of that? What happens when you break this character and they see who you really are? What happens when you smile? Gods forbid you from laughing." Toothless started to get heated.
"Well what should I be doing then. I went up there so show them that I'm a powerful and capable leader, then they come down here and see us messing around. What kind of image does that put in their heads?"
"Act normal!" Toothless yelled angrily. "You don't have to put on this, 'Look how tough and stern I am. I'm your leader crap. You're trying too hard to be something you're not." He took a deep breath and calmed down. "I'm sorry Hiccup. But if you're trying to act like the other Alphas did when they were speaking, then you've got them pinned all wrong.
I guarantee none of them are like that. You can't rule with an iron fist with us, and you don't, so I don't know why you're trying to act like you do. And if they don't like that, they can leave. You've." Toothless clamped his mouth shut. He shook his head. "You're not your father. You've given all this time and effort to get away from him, just to start acting like him. That won't work with the one who already know you, and it especially won't work for me. Not after the hell we went through just to be here today. You need to lead like Hiccup."
There was an awkward silence between them for a minute. Toothless was the first to break.
"I'm sorry Hiccup, that was mean. I didn't mean to make it sound like you were turning into your father. You're far from what he is. And I bet that even if you tried your hardest you couldn't become him."
"No, you're not wrong. Blunt maybe, but not wrong."
"Look Hiccup. You can't be tough, because you are tough. People know that you're no push over. We know what you've been through. I know what you've been through. I've seen all the highs, and definitely the lows.I've been there with you for a lot of it. You have no reason to worry about what they think of you. Having minimal losses and what looks like a good gain, is awesome. You've outdone yourself again. Which is something you keep doing, over and over. To be honest with you it something that I expect you to do now."
"Really?"
"Hiccup you've broken so many barriers that I doubt you'll stop doing it. It's who you are." They sat around for a while longer, watching dragons trickle in. "Welp Hiccup, you ready to leave?" He nodded, and slowly got up. Climbed onto his dragon's back and was ready to go.
"Alright everyone" Hiccup yelled. "We're about to leave." Once Toothless was ready, he bolted into the air. Hiccup watched as the whole pack lifted into the air. Toothless set them in the right direction and flew towards home. Hiccup watched all the other packs leaving at the same time. He was amazed at how many of them fit on that tiny island. He let himself sink into Toothless' warmth on their way home.
