"So what else can we do there?" The left Nadder asked.

"Well to be truthful there isn't much variety. We have a small group that collects wood. We use it for fires and things like that, along with some of my projects. Then we have a much larger group that does all the fishing, with a similar group that does the hunting. Toothless leads them. Then I have a very small group that collects metal for me. Other then that we have the scouting parties. We currently have… Twelve? Of them. Something like that. Which range from very low risk to very high risk. Only two of those parties are very high, the one that goes to Berk and the other that goes to Berserker Island. But you have to be recommended for the high risk groups, so you won't really have to worry about that too much. Then we have The Long Fliers. They scout the seas for us. Normally only the largest dragons are allowed in that group but in reality anyone could join them. You just have to be able to fly for an entire day without rest. Their job is to scout for ships, identify what kind they are, and who it belongs to. Then if they get too close to our fishing areas, scare them off, without trying to kill them. If it's anything serious they immediately report back and we gather a group that isn't constantly put together. Our war party. Which is anyone willing and able.

You are able to opt out of it. But. If we need more numbers, we need help. It's all hands on deck. Luckily we haven't needed to do anything like that yet. Plus our war party is large to start with. In reality if we needed to pull everyone, it's already too late. It's more likely that I would tell the rest of you to scatter and warn the other alphas. Cause if we're being attacked and we're losing, someone has figured out how to get past our defenses. Which means that everyone else would be in danger too. Something I do not want.

The last few positions that we have are personal guard, who keep the peace. And finally, the bravest job if all, nursery caretaker. Only the strongest of the strong are allowed that job." Hiccup chuckled. "The little ones are a whole different kind of threat. But it can be fun. Normally it isn't so bad and they mostly just get in the way. So it mostly just annoying more than dangerous.

I think that's about it. There may be some small jobs that one or two people do that I'm forgetting. The ones I listed are jobs that are required for us to continue to function smoothly.

Don't worry to much about it though. When we get home, I'll have a meeting with all of the new dragons, informing them of the same things I'm telling you. Just so all of you know how it works around there and there's a lot less confusion."

They all flew silently for a few minutes. Hiccup was blankly staring forward, mostly enjoying flying with Toothless.

"So what's it like being an alpha?" The left Nadder asked. Hiccup pondered the question for a minute. He wanted to come up with a better answer then 'it's hard'.

"It's not what I expected. I've done a lot more learning then I thought I would. A lot more figuring out how to lead, then actually doing it. But we've got it mostly solved for our situation. There will always be issues but those are the things that we have to solve when they come. But we give you the freedom you want. As much as we can at least." Hiccup smiled to himself. "It's nice though. It's nice having people who actually listen and actually care. I can definitely say that I'm happier than I've ever been. Happier than I thought I could ever be. Half the time I'm at a loss for words because of the life I have. I'm experiencing things no one else will ever get to. I'm meeting a people no one else will. I found love in a way no one else will." He rubbed his hand slowly over the scales under his hand. "It's an honor that so many of you are willing to give me a try. Everyday I silently thank all of you. I wouldn't be where I am without two things. The first, of course, is Toothless. He's been through it all with me, and deserves this title more than I do. No matter how much he says I'm better at it. And secondly, is all of you. I wouldn't be much of a leader if I didn't have a following. Especially one that trusts their lives to me.

It's been eye opening for sure. And I'm very happy that I got the chance to live this way." Toothless swooped around a little. He appreciated what Hiccup said.

"So then what's the story of you two together? I've heard that you two are mated. Is that true?"

"Yes it is." Toothless said. "We've been mated for, wow, almost two years. Hiccup did you realize that?" Hiccup took a second to think.

"No I didn't. It would be coming up pretty soon. It hard to keep track of time. I guess that means we'll have to begin preparing for the freeze. This is going to be our first at Helheim isn't it?"

"Hmmm. Yeah I suppose it will be. I'm not very worried though. If we were able to survive just the two of us, then having hundreds at our disposal will help a lot. Plus we live in an old volcano so it should be pretty warm no matter what. The only real problem I see is the freeze can get pretty bad in these parts and may last longer then we anticipate or end up colder than I think. That could potentially cause food shortage."

"Well with the new influx of dragons we could add more to the hunting and fishing parties. We should create a large reserve of all we can. We could get the scouts to steal salts and things so that I could preserve fish and meats. It would make it safe for me to eat as well."

"Good idea. We'll need to bolster the numbers anyway. With all the additions we made, it would probably be hard to keep up with those groups current sizes. It would allow us to spread out our fishing areas as well. Make sure we don't over fish our current spots."

"That makes sense. Once we're done introducing the new dragons we should call everyone to tell them that." The very top of the volcano began to peek over the horizon. "I see home Toothless."
