The pack in front of Hiccup and Toothless began to slow down and group together. Slowly they made their way to the very front of the pack. Dragons nodded and greeted them as they passed.

"Toothless what's going on?" Hiccup asked as he waved to his flock.

"It's a little tradition I suppose. The alpha, you and I, will be the first to enter our home. Don't ask me why we do it, that's just how it is."

"No that's fine. My dad used to do something like that too. He was always the first off the boat after coming back." Dragons began to pile up behind them. A bit of rumbling ran through the crowd as new dragons asked what was going on.

"You ready, Hiccup?" Toothless asked. Hiccup nodded. Toothless readied himself. "Better hold on tight Hiccup." Hiccup smirked to himself. Other dragons saw what was happening and readied themselves as well. They looked around to see who was joining the impromptu race. Hiccup could hear the Berk scout leader yelling something. Then a few of the others doing the same thing. Suddenly there were over a hundred dragons lined up.

"Show off." He whispered as Toothless shot forward. They had made a good distance before of the others of the line started after them. Hiccup swore he heard someone yell 'not fair' right as they left.

Toothless beat his wings as hard as he could. Now that there was competition, he was in it to win it. Quickly they reach the speed where the iconic Night Fury sound began to hum in the air. Hiccup lowered himself against his dragon. Their bodies in tune just like when they had the saddle.

Hiccup looked behind them. Finding the fastest of the group only a few body lengths behind them and a small set just behind them. As the giant rock spires began to rise up from the horizon, Toothless pushed himself harder and harder. The spires got closer and the other dragons began to rise further into the air to clear over them but Toothless kept on his path.

Toothless and Hiccup entered the maze of sharp unforgiving stones. Toothless Maneuvered up, down, and around. Racing through. Nearly half way through his wings clipped a rock. They jerked to the side nearly crashing. Toothless corrected them and they were quickly on the way.

Pain radiated down his wing and into his back. His senses dulled, the only thing he wanted was to win. To show his human that he was still at the top. His heart and wings beating, brain in overdrive. They shot out the other side and into a small hole in the volcano's side. They looked around for anyone else but it was empty. Hiccup cheered. But something was wrong.

Toothless was having trouble keeping himself up. They quickly landed and Hiccup jumped off. Toothless howled painfully. He tried to curl up his wing but even the slightest movement sent sharp spikes down his spine. Hiccup moved over to the wing that wasn't against the dragon's back. Slowly he looked all over it until he reached the tip. Handling it softly he grimaced.

"How does it look?" Toothless asked hoarsely. Hiccup didn't say anything at first. He was trying to figure out what to do. The long bone holding the wings shape had broken nearly size inches in and had slide behind the other part. Hiccup knew what he needed to do but didn't want to. Just the thought of putting Toothless through so much pain made him weary.

"It's not good bud. It's broken and it moved. A lot."

"What do you mean by, ow, ow, ow, a lot?" Hiccup looked at it again. He shook his head and cursed to himself.

"Dammit." Hiccup whispered. "Nearly half of it moved behind the other piece."

"What does that mean though? What do we do? Can it stay like that?"

"No Toothless it can stay like that. The last section of your wing won't be taught when it's spread out. You wouldn't be able to fly as well or as fast. We'll have to move it back. Hiccup looked at him. Toothless whined in response. "I know. I'm sorry."

Suddenly a cacophony of noise began in the volcano. Dragons poured in from everywhere. Which under normal circumstances Hiccup would have loved to watch. Dragons began to land near them wondering what was going on. Hiccup explained the situation and wanted a few of them to help Toothless to get to their platform. After a minute of figuring out the best way to get him there, Toothless was awkwardly picked up by three dragons and brought to his home. Hiccup slowly followed behind. Climbing up the rocks after them.

When he arrived Toothless was laying on his side. His broken wing draped over him. The dragons who had brought him there sat, waiting.

"Is there anything else you'd like for us to do?" The one in the middle asked.

"No." Hiccup answered immediately. "Wait! Yes. Spread the word that there won't be a meeting tonight, and one of you go see if we have any dragon nip left. The three quickly left and the two were left alone again. Hiccup shuffled over towards his dragon's head, who had his eyes closed. He sat down and patted Toothless' head.

"I hope we've got any dragon nip left for you bud." He whispered. "We had to use a lot right before we left. Everyone was starting to get pent up yuh' know. But even if we don't I'm going to have to fix it soon. All of you heal too fast, for me to leave it like that. Even overnight.

Hiccup continued to sooth his companion as they waited to see if one of the dragons returned. Eventually one did come back and had a very small batch of dragon nip in it's claws. In reality of was only a few blades of the grass. Hiccup thanked the dragon and they were in their way.

Hiccup grabbed the small bunch and brought it to Toothless' nose. Toothless began to breathe deeply. The scent of the grass along with his mates, calming him quickly. The pain in his wing only a side note as his mind slowly numbed. Hiccup placed the bundle on the ground under the dragon's nose. Slowly he shifted himself back towards the broken wing. Carefully his picked it up in hand. With the other his placed his thumb and index finger against the end of each broken part. He watched Toothless breathe and slowly started to slide the bone back into place. The sharp point of the bone poked the inside of the skin making Toothless yelp and jump. Hiccup flinched and let go of the wing, losing all his progress.
