Demetri - DPOV

Man, the week had started quite promising with that dumb Cullen coming over to ask for his own demise. It finally looked like we were going to have some action again, but then the Masters decided that he was too valuable to die. His gift would be of more use to the Volturi, but of course, the idiot refused the offer. Don't vampires know by now that Master Aro always gets his way in the end?

Well, this one clearly doesn't know. Master Aro thinks he is bound to do something stupid like draining half the city or revealing himself to the humans. That's why Felix and I are watching his pathetic ass while he is contemplating what to do, hidden away in the shadows. It truly doesn't matter what he decides though, he's as good as dead. Let's just hope that he decides soon.

The clock starts to ring. It's twelve o'clock, we're been waiting out here for the idiot to make a move for hours. Oh wait, there's movement. He creeps closer to the sunlit square. He must have decided that exposure is the way to go. He isn't only sentencing himself, but every human on that square to death. I sigh at the thought of cleaning the mess; we'll get the lower guard to do that.

I'm tired of this shit, I want to go back to my quarters and read or kick Felix's ass in the training room. Anything is better than babysitting this fool. Come on, take the step and get this over with. Wait, what the fuck is that?

Someone is running across the square, shouting his name. That voice is like an angel calling, I've never heard something so beautiful in my whole life. I try and look into the square to see who it is, but the boy is blocking my view. Right when he is taking the final step into the sun, the person calling him slams into his chest.

"Edward, move. You have to move, they're here. I'm alive, Edward, move!"

Wait a minute; is this the girl that's supposed to be dead? Oh, Aro is going to love this, a good old-fashioned romance story, kind of like Romeo & Juliet. Felix starts moving out and I follow while trying to get a better look at the girl in his arms. Her smell is even more enticing than her voice; she smells like oregano and basil, like the spice markets in Greece, she reminds me of home. The boy startles when he notices our presence.

"Gentleman, I won't need your services anymore but thank you for your help. Come, Bella."

Oh my god, the girl next to him is absolutely gorgeous. I lock eyes with her and in that moment I just know, this girl is my mate. Edward and I growl at the same time. He growls because he read my mind and doesn't like what he's seeing and I'm growling because he's claiming my mate as his own.

"Aro wants to speak with you again."

"Fine, Bella, you can go back and enjoy the festival.

Oh no, no way that she is going anywhere, she is going with us. She's mine! Edward growls at me again. This is getting old very quickly. I can sense someone else approaching. Oh great, it's the psychic. What is this? A family reunion? Felix rolls his eyes at me when Alice tries to convince us to let Bella go.

"The girl comes with us. It's not a request."

At that moment Jane arrives, the Cullens bow their head to avoid her stare. I chuckle.

"Indeed, it is not! What is taking you so long? Aro is waiting. Follow me!"

Felix and I let the Cullens and Bella pass so that we can keep an eye on them from behind. It wouldn't surprise me if the boy would try to run. He scowls again. Stop reading my mind then, if you don't like what you see!

The psychic is looking back at me with a strange look on her face. What is her problem? Man, these vampires are getting on my nerves. We walk over to the entrance of the castle and Jane, Alice and I jump down. I stand and wait for her, my mate. The psychic is supposed to catch her but instead of doing that, she pushes me to catch Bella in her place.

"I saw it in a vision, I'm not happy about it, but she belongs with you. It is the bond of true mates; it will give you a love that is pure and true. It's worth fighting for."

"Why are you doing this? She's not going home with you after this; I'm not letting her go."

"I love her and you're the only one that can truly make her happy, that's why."

I nod and wait for Bella to jump down. The psychic yells up to her.

"I'll catch you, Bella, just jump. You'll be fine, I've seen it."

The suspense is killing me; the thought of holding my mate in my arms is almost too much. I had given up on the thought of finding her, but then she just walked into my life. I guess I need to thank Edward for that. Nah, that's not going to happen, you can bet on it.

"Catch me, Alice!"

The moment I have her safely in my arms is magical; I feel this electrical current flowing through my body and her smell is heavenly. The look on her face is one of full bliss. I can see the surprise and a shimmer of love in her eyes and I know she's feeling the pull too. Oh my god, she is so beautiful with her long dark brown hair and those gorgeous chocolate brown eyes.

I put her down gently when Edward jumps down next to us. I'm still holding Bella's hand and I give it a gentle squeeze before letting go. I miss her warmth immediately. Edward starts growling again. Oh, please stop doing that, you idiot. Do you really think that your love for her can outweigh the bond of true mates? Keep kidding yourself, mind-reader. She's mine and she will love me as much as I love her.

We start walking towards the castle after Felix makes his way down. Bella walks beside me, with the psychic and the mind-reader behind us. Sometimes my hand brushes against hers and I can feel the electric current flowing each time it happens. She has this mysterious smile on her face, which is quite captivating. She is absolutely stunning.

I can hear that the mind-reader is getting on the psychic's nerves: "Stop making decisions that get us killed, if you don't mind Edward. I would like to see Jasper again."

I chuckle, I would like to see him try and take us on. It takes us a while to reach the throne room because we're traveling at human speed. When we enter, I see Bella looking around with wonder in her eyes. Yes, I must admit, the throne room is quite impressive. You do not notice the beauty anymore when you've seen it almost every day of the last 750 years.

"Sister, we send you out for one and you return with two… and a half. Clever girl!"

I roll my eyes at Alec; he thinks he's so funny. I'll kick his ass later for insulting my mate.

I position Bella in the middle of the room; give her a quick reassuring nod and go to stand right behind her. I do not trust anyone in this room to be near my mate at the moment. Felix orders the Cullens to stand next to Bella and also goes to stand behind them to keep a close eye on them.

I give Edward a warning glance. Watch your back, Edward, one wrong move and you're done for. His scowl tells me he 'heard' me. I kind of like this way of playing with his emotions, even though he is a pretty easy target. How would he react if I start thinking of kissing Bella and slowly undressing her? The growl he gives me has me laughing out loud. Oh, it's just too easy.

"What a happy surprise, Bella is alive after all. Isn't that wonderful? I love a happy ending, they are so rare. Don't you agree?"

Aro makes his way across the room and takes Edward's hand in his one. I can see Aro's eyes quickly looking at me, before returning his gaze to Edward.

"Interesting, you're quite the mind-reader yourself, Edward, though you can't read Bella's thoughts. Fascinating! Bella, would you do me the honor?"

I can see Bella hesitating, but then she raises her head high and gives her hand to Aro. My mate is strong and brave, standing in a room full of vampires with a steady heartbeat. I'm certain the kings have already picked up on the fact too. Caius is looking more intrigued than angry and even Marcus has a little twinkle in his eyes.

Aro takes her hand and closes his eyes. After a few seconds, he opens them again, shocked and surprised.

"I see nothing. You are a rare gem, Bella. I wonder if you are immune to all our powers. Shall we, Jane?"

Aro is looking straight at me when he makes that call as if he's asking me to step in. I guess he saw something in Edward's mind, regarding my feelings for Bella. I can see Jane coming closer from the corner of my eye but before I can address my Masters, the mind-reader lunges for Jane. Oh boy, he's going to regret that move.

"Pain."

Jane's gift hits him midair and she has him writhing in pain before he even hits the ground. I can hear Felix and Alec chuckle, but my focus is on Bella. She looks panicked but does not interfere.

"Jane."

Aro interrupts Jane but takes his time to give her the command to test her gift on Bella now. That's my queue. I step forward and stick out my hand. Bella looks at me curiously.

"Master Aro, we don't hurt one of our own."

He nods with a smile on his face and steps forward to take my hand. Caius, Marcus and the rest of the guard look at me questioningly.

"Wonderful, just wonderful, Demetri, I couldn't be happier. Alice dear, would you do me the honor of showing me your thoughts?"

I step aside and wait for Aro to read the psychic's mind. I know he's looking for the vision she spoke of. Edward is regaining consciousness after Jane's attack and he's looking furious. I roll my eyes at him. How stupid can you be to jump at Jane, really? What were you thinking, asshole? I would never let them hurt my mate. He growls and Felix pulls him up and secures him with his hands behind his back.

"Edward, it seems that there is a misconception of your true relationship with Bella. Before I ask Marcus to check her bonds, can you state the nature of your relationship with her?"

"Bella is the love of my life. She is my true mate. We're meant to be together."

I can see Marcus looking over at me; his eyes are telling me that he knows the boy is lying. Aro moves over to Bella.

"Bella, would you tell me your thoughts on this matter."

"I loved Edward with all my heart, he meant the world to me and we were going to be together for eternity. I asked him to change me more than once but he refused. After an unfortunate incident on my birthday, he decided that I was not good for him and that he didn't love me.

He broke my heart into a million pieces and vanished from the face of the earth. I mourned my loss, I was catatonic for months and then I decided he wasn't worth it anymore. I came here today to save him, because of his family. They would be devastated if he died because they love him. I don't, Edward is not my mate. I was a fool to believe that."

"Bella love, you don't mean that. We love each other. I'm sorry, love, I did it for you. I wanted you to have a normal happy life. I love you so much; I had to keep you safe."

Bella looks livid. I make a mental note to never make her angry; I like to keep all my body parts attached in their rightful place, although I can imagine make-up sex with her being outstanding. Oh my god; she is so hot when she's angry. I'm so turned on right now. She'll be a magnificent vampire and I can't wait to make her mine in every way possible.

"You love me?! You had to keep me safe?! What about asking me what I wanted? No, you decided what was best for me, without any regard for my feelings. You're an asshole, Edward! I would slap you if I didn't know I would hurt myself more than I would hurt you. You don't get to decide what's best for me, I'm a grown woman, and I can make my own decisions. I don't ever want to see you again."

Oh, another mental note: Bella hates being smothered. I look around the room while Bella yells at her ex-boyfriend. Aro is enjoying the theatrics, Caius is looking impressed, and Marcus even looks less depressed than usual. Alec and Jane are glaring at Edward with disdain, and Felix looks like he's holding onto a pile of filth.

"I would have thought Carlisle raised you better than to treat a lady like that, Edward. You should be ashamed of yourself. I'm sorry you had to endure that, young Bella, truly sorry. Marcus, please show me Bella's bonds."

Aro walks over to Marcus and makes brief contact with his hand. He sighs when he looks back at Edward.

"My dear Edward, you're very much mistaken. The bond you share with Bella is one of young love and affection. Where it once was very strong, it is now one-sided and feeble. Bella was never your mate, her blood called out to you and you misinterpreted your connection with her. That connection is worth nothing in comparison to the bond of true mates that Demetri and Bella share. Their love is pure, strong, and eternal."

Bella turns to me and I pull her close to me. She truly is mine. Edward starts growling and tries to break Felix's hold. Alice is telling him to calm down but that's not working.

"Alec, numb him for the remainder of this meeting please, I don't like interruptions. Dear Alice, take Edward home. I'm sure Carlisle misses you both. Keep in mind that you broke one of our laws; we will decide later on what your punishment will be. Felix will escort you back to the entrance at the end of this meeting.

My dear Bella, your gifts will make for an intriguing immortal. Would you consider staying with us? Your change is guaranteed as is your place within our guard, next to your mate."

"I would be honored, Master."

"Very good! You are all dismissed. Felix, show our guests out. Demetri, show your mate your quarters and take your time to get to know each other. Don't do anything I wouldn't do."
