Chapter 19: Revenge
It became obvious very quickly that Ventress wasn't used to prolonged conflict. Of course, she still held her own but she kept making mistakes. Doryn knew Dooku never trained his students in endurance beyond what they already had. It was something Master Tassu had trained her in but Ventress made it abundantly clear that she didn't have someone like that. "I yield." The Sith said as she had a red and green blade crossed at her throat. Her other lightsaber wasn't too far away, neither was the Jedi's other lightsaber. Though, trying to call either over would be a dumb move. Doryn could easily decapitate her in less than a moment and it wasn't like she needed much encouragement.
"You won't kill me, Jedi." She snarled the taunt. Doryn wanted to. By the Force, there was nothing she wanted to do more than punish the person that hurt Wolffe. Unfortunately, the taunt was right. "Maybe not, but some retribution is certainly in order. Wouldn't you agree?" She heard how sickly sweet her voice sounded as they carried her threat. She couldn't help the smile that came to her face. This was wrong and she knew it was wrong. She knew it was wrong and it just aided in the twisted joy it brought her. "And what of your Jedi code?" The Sith seemed to know a bit about the Jedi's morality, though Doryn decided to ignore the reasons why and simply kept smiling. Her head tilted and wore the same amused smile she had when watching a youngling struggle with a fine motor skill. "But my commander isn't a Jedi, now, is he?" She took pleasure as the Sith's eyes went over to Wolffe. With his helmet on, she probably had no idea that it was the same clone she'd hurt.
Doryn threw the red lightsaber off into the distance but kept her green blade close to Ventress' throat. The slightest movement from her prisoner made the Cathar bare her teeth and tighten her grip on the remaining lightsaber. When Ventress had gotten the hint, Doryn stuck out her now free hand and used the Force to draw her second lightsaber into it. She held her open hand palm up with the lightsaber rested along the fur covered ridges of her hand. "Wolffe, if you would." Offering her lightsaber to someone was so against everything she'd ever learnt. She could hear Master Barrek explaining that a Jedi's lightsaber is their life and Master Tassu taunting her that she was so willingly giving her life away. Though, she was giving it to Wolffe. It was okay when it was Wolffe. How strange.
Wolffe knew that he should've pulled her back. He wanted revenge on that monster and Ryn looked amazing as she took it on his behalf but she was going too far and he wanted to keep her on the right side of justice. What she was doing was wrong and he didn't stop her. Instead, he took the lightsaber she offered him and came toward the Sith that had disfigured him. He pressed the weapon's ignition and the green plasma blade quickly changed the weight in his hand. The only other time he'd held a lightsaber, he hadn't really had an opportunity to consider the weight with his focus being on her. The weight felt surprisingly good. With how different her lightsabers looked from one another, he wondered if they felt different. He reckoned making a lightsaber was the same for a Jedi as painting and customising armour was for a clone. Before getting lost in thoughts of why her two weapons looked nothing alike, he reminded himself of what he'd told himself before. His job wasn't to understand Jedi, just to follow them.
Now he was in a position of power. Ventress was on her knees before him waiting for him to hurt her. The green blade he held was a reminder that this was the side of justice. The green meant that he was the one in the right. "An eye for an eye." He said bringing both hands to the lightsaber's grip and angling it to point at her face. He wasn't sure why he was hesitating when everything pointed to this being the right thing to do. She deserved it. "Wolffe?" Ryn's voice slipped through every wall of tension. He looked at her and noticed she was watching him. Her eyes looked like they were looking for hints and her mouth hadn't fully closed. Her brow ridge lifted and tightened as her eyes came to his hands. His hands were shaking. He couldn't work out why they were shaking. It wasn't like he was making them do that, and he'd always had a steady hand when he was angry. He couldn't be scared, could he? Of course he couldn't be.
The next set of events happened so fast yet so slow, starting with his back slamming against a rock. He looked up to see Ryn with an arm extended toward him and her palm pointed toward him as if she'd pushed him. Though her body stayed pointing toward the Sith in front of her who now held her red blades. He'd distracted her and Ventress had had an opportunity to get her lightsabers back. Red plasma was where he'd just been standing. As Ryn brought her hand back the red light moved toward her. As she pushed Ventress away, the red lightsaber met her hip. Still, she used the Force to throw her toward and over the edge of a sheer drop nearby. He wasn't sure if he was just winded or if her scream stopped his breath. He couldn't feel or control his legs as they took him over to her. Not that he would've told them to do anything different. Sprint was shouting down his comm for evac while Comet and Wildfire fussed over her. Comet was trying to get her to let go of her lightsaber and Wildfire nodded over to Wolffe as he approached. He felt like he was holding something and realised that he was still gripping onto her left saber.
"Ryn, I'll keep it safe." This time when she felt someone grab her lightsaber it was Wolffe. It was Wolffe and she was okay and she could let go. She let go of her lightsaber and the last bit of resistance that she had. She'd never thrown anything so far before and she'd already been tired from their fight before. Not to mention the dent where the lightsaber had hit her was deeper than she'd thought. Now she was okay, and she let herself rest against a plastoid covered chest that she assumed was Wolffe's. Between the firm hold, her tiredness and the dizzying pain, she couldn't keep herself awake much longer and fell asleep.
Wolffe tried to take her from Comet after he took her second saber but Sprint pulled him back and insisted on checking on him. Wildfire stopped checking on Ryn to come over and help Sprint restrain him until Wolffe gave in and did as his men said to. He probably had a couple of broken ribs but it hurt so much more than that. The most pain came from watching her fall asleep in Comets arms and hearing him say, "You're alright now, cyar'ika." Either his rib punctured his lung or it really hurt that much to see her burrow her face into his brother as she drifted into sleep.
Later the medic confirmed that his broken ribs hadn't done any extra internal damage. He just loved her.
