Complicated
"I don't know why humans think doing this is so complicated. When I told Miroku I'd do it from the start, he looked as if his eyes would pop out and began to laugh in a weird way, almost like possessed by a demon. "
"You think it's not complicated?" Asked Kagome, laying by his side, after listening to his musings.
"Well, I think once you learn it must be like everything else. Besides, it doesn't stink."
"It will with time, you'll see."
"No way! Demon's blood must be stinkier." He laughed and looked at her. Kagome thought InuYasha, aside from naive, was bright, like all honest people were.
"Maybe you are right and it's not as complicated as they say." She cheered him up.
He looked at her and, just like every previous day, felt filled by love, and showed her a smile.
"Now we'll know." He assured.
His hands caressed the little body of their daughter, the one awoken to life just a few hours ago, and began to remove the mantle covering her. Suddenly, a strike of conscience made him realize the fragility of the little one.
"Did Sango say anything about how to do it?" He needed something. A guide.
"She didn't. Only to call her if we needed any help." Kagome read her partner's fear. Being a parent was marvelous and terrifying. "I can do it." She suggested, trying to lay straight despite the pain.
"No, I will do it. If I haven't broken anything in you through all these years, I'm not going to do so with her. "
The claim calmed her. She took a deep breath and held it in an instant, without missing detail of how InuYasha had begun to handle Moroha. His hands, of long fingers ending on white claws, moved with dexterity and precision, aside from being meticulously gentle. He took off her clothes and began to undo the diaper.
"This, is normal?" He asked, looking at the color and texture of what was in the cloth.
"Yes, I've seen it from babies in the village." She assured.
InuYasha smelled the air with some curiosity.
"It doesn't smell."
Kagome laughed.
"It hasn't even tried to eat yet." She cleared his doubt.
InuYasha came close to comment something, yet decided to keep it to himself. He tried, once again, the water's temperature inside the basin and held the baby to wash her. Moroha didn't wake up at all, albeit she did release some sounds resembling a complain. Once he left her by Kagome's side, he laid mouth- down on the futon, staring at them. Only at that moment he allowed himself to sigh.
"Complicated?" Kagome inquired.
He set his gaze on his partner's eyes. He took the little hand of his daughter, and caressed it with the tip of his finger.
"Yes, because at every moment I was afraid of hurting her. No, because I know I won't allow anything to happen to her."
N/A
I like to recreate these moments inside these drabbles. I like to see InuYasha and Kagome in those instants which we can only imagine.
